I have to say that I love it when characters are able to grow and change through a book plot. This book by Cami Checketts has a really good example of that.
The main character of this book is Shelly. She’s a barrel racer in rodeos when she can. But she’s had a string of bad luck. And her horse and best friend, Grace, has been injured. This leaves Shelly faltering a bit. She is worried that she will bring bad luck to her boyfriend, Thor, so she dumps him. The reader can tell that was not what she would have preferred. But she feels she has no choice.
Shelly is the kind of woman who is amazing. She can do anything she puts her mind to. Shelly is independent. And she cares fiercely for her family and those around her. I loved those things about her.
Thor is really confused. They’ve been dating a long time. And he loves Shelly and wants her back. Thor is the best of guys. He’s a cowboy. Loving and loyal. Caring and worried for Shelly. But he has a secret. A secret that could get him hurt.
I really enjoyed reading this one! I loved Shelly and Thor. And now I need to figure out the secret!
A cowboy, a cowgirl, an amazing horse, a love story, but...
I've loved all of these books. My problem with this one is how much I thoroughly dislike Shelly. This book was much more like "traditional" romance plots where the characters hate each other until the end of the story. Shelley was horrible to Thor. Rude. Sarcastic. Thought the worst of him. Thor never gave up on her no matter how ugly she was to him. I wanted him to give up. Shelley's wrong judgments against the townspeople when they reached out to her created bitterness in her. She had faced several big losses in her life and had decided God was against her too. By the end, she had resolved her issues with God and promised to love Thor freely. There was no time to get used to this new Shelley. I was glad to finish this book and hopefully go on to nicer people.
Thor and Shelly had been sweethearts for almost five years but the last year has been rough for her. She had lost her mother when her mom left her dad for a rodeo guy; she lost her dad to alcohol and a tragic death; she is losing her grandmother to dementia; she lost the use of her horse in rodeo to an injury; she lost her faith to fear; so she is determined to let Thor go because she doesn’t want her bad luck to rub off on him. Will Thor be able to help her find her faith once again? This is a good addition to the series and I look forward to the following books.
Thor can be my hero anytime! He is thoughtful, kind, generous, possessive, protective, swoony hot and most of all patient....far more patient than he should be with Shelley. There are large portions of this book where I struggle to like Shelley, she has had a very rough few years, with a lot of heartbreak and loss and this makes her bitter and cynical. Thor unfortunately bears the brunt of her anger and frustration as she fights her crushing emotions, and although we know why she acts this way, it still makes it very hard to like her! The Delta's are a family like no other and I look forward to more time with them in the near future. I read this on Kindle Unlimited.
Talk about stubborn, I think Shelly won the second pace ribbon while Thor won the blue ribbon for first. To be honest, I thought I didn’t like myself, but Shelly has me beat. No matter how much Shelly pushed everyone away, they always loved and supported her. There were so many things in this book that touched my heart and brought tears to my eyes. You will so enjoy reading and getting engrossed in this series. Try it you will like it.
If you ever feel abandoned through death or life this is the book to read! Feeling like your not good enough, but your loved ones see past the pain and insecurities to love you unconditionally. Amazing book, shows the highs and lows, but love never ends. Seeing your worth through someone else's eyes. Fast read with lots of twist's and turns!
I enjoyed reading Thor and Shelly's story. If you feel abandoned by others or feel as though you are not good enough, this story is for you. Shelly struggles with feelings of abandonment and insecurities as life dealt her some hard blows family wise. Abandoned also has a bit of mystery and twists and turns in it.
Shelly and Thor have been dating for five years. Thor lost his heart years ago. When Shelly has a year of catastrophic events, her attitude tanks and she pulls away from Thor to protect him from her bad luck. I love Thor's patience, strength and faith in God. I love that after all her trials, Shelly turns to God to find peace.
Pride will get you every time. Shelly had had a lot of bad luck. She feels abandoned by everyone. How can her boyfriend Thor help her see that she is loved, needed, and good enough for him and their town? Find out in this sweet story where dreams might just come true:)
I enjoyed this book, although it was a little repetitive in parts. Lots of interesting characters who I am sure I will meet up with again in future books.. I recommend this book for easy night reading and a wide variety of ages. Teens to older people who like remembering younger relationships.
This story is about a young girl who thought she wasn’t good enough for her boyfriend or the people in her town. Only to find at a barrel racing event when she saw the whole town there to cheer her on did she realize that she could love her boyfriend and move on in life. This is my review and mine alone. Norma Gorrill
Cami did a good job in her story concerning love and faith in Our Savior. The saying goes," When you feel lost and alone, it isn't God who walked away. It is you walking away from God." His truth is He will not leave us nor forsake us. Thor was a great role model in his unwavering love for Shelley.
Shelly's story really got to me! I related to her on so many levels and reading this story and all of her fears left me literally crying as the story progressed! Happy tears of course. I read a lot of books, but this one really brought so many emotions out in me. Loved it!
DNF Could not make through more than 4 chapters. Shelly with her "stubborn pride" was too irritating. Really, not allowing your boyfriend of five years to even pay for your dinner because you want to be independent?
What dedication! I love the Delta family. If you’re tender-hearted, you might want to have tissues close. Pride can be a good thing, but there is a reason why too much pride cometh before a fall. Shelly has taken pride too far, she fails to realize that others love and want to help her and that is a good thing, not something to fear. I really loved this story and look forward to the rest of the series
Abandoned is another excellent addition to the Delta Family Series. Shelly and Thor were a fabulous couple with a heartwarming story. So far, every Delta we’ve met has been a mix of tough warrior slash loving gentleman. I can’t wait for Klein and Alivia’s story!
Wow! What a story. This was so great about Thor and Shelly. She was the love of his life and she felt she was not good enough for him or his family. She a barrel racer and he was a bronc rider. Can they find true happiness, enjoy
Shelly is an all around country girl. She rides horses, waits tables and takes care of her family. Thor is as All-American as you can get. Loves his country, rodeo and his family. Plus, he loves his cowgirl, Shelly.
Can a broken hearted barrel racer whose horse that she loves gets hurt Except a very expensive horse? Can the cowboy help her to learn how much people love her. This story is so incredible!! Enjoy the ride of your life!!!
This story about Shelley and Thor is interesting, frustrating and satisfying. She's stubborn as a mule and he's as determined as a fox in a hen house. Can't wait to see what comes next in this series.
Thor's devotion and commitment to Shelley is so refreshing and inspiring. No matter how he is treated by Shelley he is right by her side. Shelley has a lot of obstacles in her way to make a commitment. Can she overcome them? Read this wonderful story.
I thought this book was great! It was frustrating how Shellie didn’t think she was good enough for Thor. She loves him, but feels she is not worthy of him.
Shelly and Thor's story is frustrating at time since Shelly with not trust her faith, Thor's Love or in her ability to believe in herself. When a young women from the rodeo circuit gifts her horse to Shelly after she dies. Things start to turn around and the end of the story is inspiring, and HEA. Can't wait to read the next book Cami Checkett!!
Wow! An amazing story about abandonment issues and the unconditional love of God and people. The encouragement that came from losing someone precious and the precious gift left could only have been Heaven inspired. Can't wait to read about Klein's story.
