***It is usually said that a woman is behind a man’s success, however, in this story, you’ll see how a man changed the life of the woman he married, and proved that not every entanglement is painful… because some entanglements are are those from which, you never want to escape….***
Let’s look into the journey of a girl who has nothing but the hope of living a peaceful life.
This was okay, and I liked the plot. Since I can't write a story—or even a good one, for that matter—I can overlook the writing style or the occasionally awkward and cringey lines. I really admire the author for putting his or her work out there.
Anyway, this was like a Cinderella story, only that Ariana's (25) mother, stepfather, and sister were the thorns in her life. She has been treated like crap since she was 11, and she is still under their palms at the present time. The douche stepfather wanted to arrange a marriage for Ari to save his business, and the best friend of Ari's late father, Rupert, found out about this ridiculous plan.
Rupert and his wife, Myla, talked to their son Xavier (early 30s) and emotionally blackmailed him to marry Ari to save her from that impending marriage plan. You see, these three have the most loving and healthy family relationship, and Xavier will do anything for his parents, even if it's against what he wants.
They got married, but he was really rude and a jerk towards Ari. Xavier is a judgmental prick in the beginning, and he thinks she's just like her stepsister, who's a witch and spoiled brat. Since he thinks she's a gold digger, he told her not to slack off and hired her to be his PA, which is something he never does—hire a woman for that role. He said it's not sexism, but all the previous experiences he had didn't get him any good results. They worked together, and his condition was not to tell anyone about their marriage. Ari agreed because she didn't want to be a burden to him; she's really a pushover in the beginning. She eventually grows some spine, but still not enough to make me root for her.
Ari was definitely something. She's so innocent, and at times I'm really frustrated with her. How can she be so smart with a software engineering degree and be an ethical hacker who doesn't know much about life? She didn't know how to kiss and didn't know what an orgasm was. It was like she was too sheltered and intentionally made to be dumb to know about these things. She's afraid of crowds and super shy, and her face gives her away all the time. Like I said, I'm frustrated with her at times because of her behavior, but on the other hand she's also sweet, nice, thoughtful, and just an amazing person overall, despite what she went through.
I did like how Xavier started to see Ari in a different light. He was too slow to realize how good of a person she is and that she's a rare gem, but when he finally did, it was cute seeing him be protective, jealous, and territorial over her. I loved how their dynamics changed when Xavier saw what Ari was all along.
Anyway, this was kind of long—62 chapters as a whole. Some parts were meh, but I think that's okay with stories on Wattpad. I don't really want to expect too much from them, but this still made me so giddy for the most part. I liked this story, but I'm not feeling like continuing with Sean and Daniel stories. I'll probably just read their book's epilogue. 😂
Notes: - OMD. Ari's coworker is attracted to her, but she's oblivious to it. When the guy finally asked her out, she told him no but still hoped they could still be friends. Tbf, no one knew she's already married, and Ari is way too dense to realize that the guy is interested in her. - OWD1. Three witches in the office were mean to Ari because they wanted her PA position. They were attracted to Xavier, but he didn't give them any attention. - OWD2. A reporter with whom Xavier had slept once when he was in college interviewed him and his best friends. This woman is also a witch and made snide remarks to Ari. He put her in place, obviously.
