More than a year has passed since a deadly virus swept the globe, killing almost everyone and turning them into monsters. Rowan, Devon, and Kiaya have lost, loved, and worked hard to build lives out of the shattered pieces of the former world, and they’re determined to do whatever it takes to make sure nothing destroys what they’ve built.
But the threat is still out there.
For months they’ve been searching for the vultures who attacked the hospital, not just destroying their home and killing most of their people, but stealing their kids as well. Town after town, month after month, they’ve looked everywhere they could think of only to turn up nothing. And now they’re starting to lose hope.
But just as they begin to accept they might not ever learn what happened to Mike, Devon stumbles across evidence that suggests the vultures aren’t that far away. As more pieces of the puzzle begin to emerge, the groups’s hope is restored, making them more determined than ever to finish things once and for all. And to bring Mike and the other kids home.
I'm a mom of four, Air Force wife, and author of adult and young adult dystopian, post-apocalyptic, and science fiction. I love intense world building and character driven stories that feature strong female leads - as well as a side of romance - and any end of the world scenario. Zombies, aliens, a distant future where people have no clue how the world ended in the first place, you name it, I will create a story there!
Having lived in a lot of different places after more than a decade as an Air Force wife, I love setting my books in cities I've actually lived in to give them authenticity. I've resided in: Indiana, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, California, and Oklahoma but am currently back in my home state of Ohio where I live with my husband, four kids, two dogs, and three cats.
When I'm not writing, you can find me by my pool (in the summer), getting lost in some binge-worthy show or at a play with my husband, patronizing one of the great restaurants in my small town of Troy, Ohio with my family, or traveling. I want to see everything and make a point of visiting a new place every year!
Some of my favorite books are The Hunger Games, Pride and Prejudice, The Host, and The Stand. My favorite movies are Aliens, Jaws, Signs, Say Anything, Everything Everywhere All At Once, and The Greatest Showman.

This book is a great addition to one of my favorite zombie series! Rowan, Devon, Kiaya and friends are starting to feel safer in the new settlement of Elizabethtown, named after Rowan's daughter, Elizabeth. Elizabeth is the only baby born since the zombie outbreak 18 months ago and everyone in town is enthralled by her. The only smudge on happiness is the fact that the group dubbed as the Vultures captured Mike and other kids from their group 9 months ago.
The book bounces between many POV, but the author has blended the story together in an easy to follow manner. You have plenty of zombie action, the obligatory villains, the wanna be Dictator, a little romance and plenty of tension throughout the book. This was definitely a book that I couldn't put down. Fast paced and well-written, I can't wait for the next book in the series!
I’ve spent months reading the other series set in this world and I’ve absolutely loved them, so I was really looking forward to reading this series and starting the apocalypse from the beginning again! This series was very interesting and there was obviously a lot in it! There were a lot of enemies, teamwork, love and zombies! The plot also held my attention all the way through and it had a lot of romance in it between two main couples! The romance allowed for a few steamy scenes too! There was also a lot of action and suspense in the books, which kept the plot moving and made us lose some important characters! The plot of the entire series developed further than I was expecting and I loved it a lot! The characters were also amazing and made this book even better! Rowan and Kiaya were the two female characters! I have to be honest and say that I thought that Rowan was going to be a kickass character, but there were points were she rushed into decisions and ended up putting her group in danger and I found her kind of childlike! She did grow on me at points! For me, Kiaya came a long way in this series and she grew a lot and was a strong character who could look after herself and was a great friend to Rowan! Devon, Doug and Gabe were all the main male characters! Devon was the love interest of Rowan and they got together pretty quickly and as the series progressed they had a family! Devon was very protective of Rowan and he would do anything to protect those he cared about! Doug started a romantic relationship with Kiaya as this series progressed! They did go through a rough patch, but it was easy to see how much they meant to each other! They were both stubborn as well lol! This series was mainly written from Rowen and Devon’s point of view, but quite a few chapters were written from Kiaya, Doug and Gabe’s point of views! I loved all the different point of views because it helped me connect with all the characters and see how they were dealing with the changes they were going through! It allowed for more things to happen in the plot as well, which helped as the characters did go through some situations by themselves! I now can’t wait to read more books from this author! I’m not sure if there’s going to be another series set in this world, but I really hope there is! It’s been a hell of a journey from book one of the Broken World series to the eighth book of the Far series! I also love the covers for this series! They really suit the books and the apocalyptic aspect of the plot! They suits the covers for the other series as well! The cover models are also the perfect Rowan, Kiaya and Devon!
The characters were more true in this book. The plot mostly worked but there were still some issues. The level of tolerance with the leadership didn’t fit the characters. This continues to be the biggest flaw in these books. The author creates strong characters and then has them act submissive, passive, in ways that don’t fit her character development. This book had more editing flaws but they didn’t detract from the story. Only the character flaws and Kiaya’s so called expertise in differentiating a psychopath from a sociopath. The difference described is wrong. They’re basically two words for the same thing-layman’s terms for someone with antisocial personality disorder.
Well I felt the story was dragging. There were more recaps, we was getting stuck on Rowan again and I wasnt feeling that. I was so glad the story turned to Mike. The end was epic. It had me tearing uo. Now I'm wondering what's next for all of them.
I loved this book, it was fast paced and action packed, and kept me on the edge of my seat, and hooked from the start. I love the characters in this series, Mike has to be my favourite he's such a strong character.
Kate never disappoints!! Good story! I’m looking forward to the next book!! I’m interested to see if we will hear about any of our other beloved characters in this story.
