I was disappointed in the number of recipes here considering the word "cookbook" appears in the title. It's misleading. Approximately 2/3 of the book is devoted to "ruling out the big three of food sensitivity" and "Hope for Histamine intolerance," etc. (Although there are a few recipes inside those chapters.

Overall, it looks like this could be a very helpful book for someone with digestive/gut issues that is looking to address those issues by changing their diet. For someone who was seeking recipes that emphasized fiber, the title is rather misleading.

Having read and loved his first book (Fiber Fueled), I was eagerly waiting for Dr. B's sequel. It did not disappoint! It makes you fall in love with foods that support your immune system and overall health, based on the latest best scientific evidence. Anyone with a love of food and science will truly appreciate and enjoy this wonderful book.

The Fiber Fueled Cookbook~~~

Fiber has a bad reputation with a lot of people. They think they can't digest it and so it causes irritating , even problematic, digestive problems they want to avoid. Most people are very deficient in it and they are fine with that. Fiber, they assume, is just like packing material that goes right through us. Why bother with it? Will Bulsiewicz MD, a gastroenterologist, has told you the many great reasons why in his book Fiber Fueled and now has published The Fiber Fueled Cookbook with help from a registered dietitian mostly and a chef.

His first book is very helpful, telling me that we have about sixty thousand gut microbes who easily digest our fiber (fiber only comes from plants) and extract all the life-giving nutrients in them. Fiber is what they eat and keeps them happy and functioning well.

Why are gut microbes doing besides digesting fiber? They keep our immune systems strong, our brains clear and focused, our bodies glowing with health.

Bulsiewicz understands why many people have trouble digesting a lot of fiber. They are sensitive to some foods high in histidine and/or what's shortened to FODMAPS. His early chapters explain why this is, why gut damage has occurred, and how to restrict these foods, observe your reactions, then gradually reintroduce them ito your fiber-based diet.

This is a temporary restriction only. Bulsiewicz wants you to eat a great diversity of lovely plants,, but to enjoy them as well by healing your gut. Note that it takes a repetition of foods in your diet to develop the gut microbes or enzymes to digest them well.

I don't have food sensitivities and so I could make all of the recipes in the book if I wanted to.

I've tried a number of the simpler recipes, but haven't had much success. I have to wait on the pink sauerkraut, but the Garlicky Kale didn't have much taste. Maybe the kale needed to be more wilted. I excitedly made the Mexican Hot Chocolate Brownie, but I think it was too thick because I didn't use canned black beans, but cooked dry black beans. I had to add more cayenne pepper to taste it.

Many of his recipes will be time-consuming with twenty ingredients and more than five steps. Some use a couple skillets, bowls., and an oven I love the page illustrations and they look yummy, but I prefer simpler fare where a few spices enhance the plants only and can be made in a half hour at least.

With warmer temps, I appreciate the cold, blended soup (gazpacho), but will make my own version with ingredients on hand. I'm thinking steamed beets and onions, cucumber, apple, and cooked lentils.

Bulsiewicz doesn't give his thoughts on intermittent fasting (IF), which I enjoy, but only recommends going twelve hours without eating to rest digestive system, but If has many more benefits than that from what I've read. He has a great chapter on fermentation with recipes, as well as one about spouting.safely.

I learned more about food sensitivities in this book and that constipation is made worse with more fiber. You need to heal your gut microbiome first, then add fiber.

I was concerned that he makes many kinds of biome broths, but then discards the plants. Maybe make blended soup?

I also wasn't thrilled with his admission that he still sometimes consumes ultra-processed food from the store for the “taste.” A recipe even includes ketchup and store-bought BBQ sauce. We're not perfect people and he only expects progress.

The dark chocolate chips weren't unsweetened in that brownie recipe, but I used an unsweetened bar.

Maybe we're not perfect in cooking skills, but we certainly can choose no-sugar options and develop better tastes. He even has his own BBQ sauce recipe.

Good book overall, but a number of recipes will need to be cut in half.

This is more than just a cookbook. It goes into a lot of detail about different food sensitivities and elimination diets, and has recipes to go with each issue—as well as a lot of amazing-looking recipes that are good for everyone. Included are sections on fermentation, sprouting, and making sourdough bread.

I especially appreciated the positive, upbeat tone. I kept this from the library two weeks past its due date, so I should probably snag a copy of my own.

According to Dr. Bulsiewicz the book "Fiber Fueled" is the "why" and this book "The Fiber Fueled Cookbook" is the "how". The first book is about the gut health research he compiled and this book is about how to apply that research.

I did not read the first book.

This book starts off with a warning that following this book can make the reader feel worse if they have a gastrointenstinal issue. Dr. Bulsiewicz recommends seeing a gastroenterologist to
eliminate the "big 3" of the most common causes of gastrointestinal distress: gall bladder issues, celiac disease, and constipation. Later in the book Dr. Busiewicz mentions that the relatively newly discovered salicylate intolerance is as common as celiac disease. You might want to check for that too.

Dr. Bulsiewicz separates autoimmunity issues from food intolerances issues and makes it clear that this book is not for people with autoimmunity issues. SIBO( Small Intestinal Bacterial Overgrowth ) is estimated to be the cause of approximately 60% of IBS diagnosises. There are medical tests for SIBO ( though not that great ). SIBO can also be cured with antibiotics or herbal antibacterials. SIBO is not mentioned in this book ( only 1 sentence ).

About four or five types of food intolerances are covered in this book with the most attention being given to FODMAP issues and histamine intolerances. Each of those two food intolerances get a
whole chapter. Each of those chapters contains a few pages of information and a lot of recipes.

The chapter about what to do about a FODMAP intolerance wasn't bad. It has a chart of how to test yourself for which types of FODMAPs are a problem for you personally and how to move forward. This information isn't easily available elsewhere. Monash University which pioneered the low FODMAP diet finds ways to make people pay, and pay for such information. That chapter also mentions a self help book for FODMAP issues which I never would have found otherwise.

I felt like the chapter on histamine intolerances was a bit weak. Dr. Bulsiewicz's plan for both FODMAP and histamine intolerances is to abstain from a list of problematic foods for two weeks
or until symptoms subside. Then you pick a problem food to reintroduce a teaspoon at a time, increasing the portion by a teaspoon every 3 days. You wait until you can handle that portion before moving on to the next increase. If you can't handle the new portion of the problematic food
you either stay where you are for a while or back off on the portion size for a while. I would have liked more structure in the instructions for reintroducing foods, especially for the histamine
intolerance chapter.

The book included highlighted sections for important points. Unfortunately the highlighted sections were in bright green print making it hard to read even with a lot of light and reading glasses.

Dr. Bulsiewicz's writing style was very upbeat and encouraging. I think that will be helpful to many readers, but for my individual situation I found it annoying. There are some interesting facts in this book, but you have to read a lot of empty text to get to those facts.

The book is a cookbook, and as a cookbook it has some great features. It lays flat opened up. Almost all of the recipes have a beautiful color picture with it. The recipes are 100% plant based. On the downside, the recipes do not include nutrition information ( protein, calories, fiber,
etc).

This book includes chapters on growing sprouts, making fermented food, and a chapter on points based game to increase fiber intake.

There was some good information in this book, but it was a little difficult to understand, so that's why I gave it only 4 stars. It was a little too technical for the average person. I did study some of this stuff in college, so I have a fair knowledge of some of the terms, etc. but I admit I got lost on several occasions.

I’m a fan of Dr. B and his Fiber Fueled book. This book has a lot of recipes I will try and more information on food sensitivities and how to work toward improving them and not just eliminating a bunch of foods. In some places I missed the details like he gave in his first book and it seemed like a lot of the same material, which is why I gave it only 4 stars. But overall it’s got very helpful information on why we should all be eating more plants and a lot of great recipes I can’t wait to try.

I wanted this book to be amazing and maybe that's why I'm a bit disappointed.

I liked the explanations in the beginning about this book but the recipes weren't really practical for me to make. They have so many ingredients and many I don't have easy access or any access to where I live.

The Fiber Fueled Cookbook is for those seeking to embrace a high-fiber diet even while being mindful of FODMAP, Alpha-Gal, histamine sensitivities, and more. This cookbook goes beyond mere recipes; it's a guide to transforming health through diet.

For individuals struggling with IBS or other digestive concerns, this book provides an array of choices that are gentle on the digestive system and rich in nutrients. The recipes are crafted to avoid high FODMAP ingredients while delivering flavor and variety, making it a valuable resource for those on a restrictive diet.

For those dealing with Alpha-Gal syndrome, the cookbook offers meat alternatives. The plant-based focus not only aligns with the dietary restrictions necessitated by Alpha Gal but also encourages a wholesome approach to eating. The recipes are designed to be satisfying and nourishing, ensuring that the absence of certain meats does not diminish the culinary experience.

Additionally, the book's consideration of histamine intolerance is a standout feature, or maybe I haven't been looking in the right places. Histamine-related dietary restrictions can be challenging, but this cookbook offers a range of low-histamine recipes. While I haven't tried all of these recipes, the ones I have tried are tasty.

This is more than just a collection of recipes; it's a thoughtful and inclusive guide to healthy eating, especially for those navigating the complexities of eating restrictions.

I find the gut fascinating because of how much our gut health impacts the rest of our health. I really appreciated the author discussing topics like Histamine Intolerance especially since many traditional Med Drs have no idea what it is (shocker). I also appreciated him giving guidance around what foods are typically low and high in histamine. With my experience, some foods listed as “high” I could tolerate while having adverse reactions to “low” histamine foods. Every individual reacts differently and it’s not a one sized fits all approach.

I’m knocking off some stars for this being a fully plant based book. While I anticipated plants being a heavy hitter in this because it’s targeting fiber, I can’t ignore the many benefits that animal based protein can have for the entire body. There are so many amazing nutrients in meat that I can’t push that aside. I’ve tried the plant based thing for about 3 years and my body hated it.

I’m excited to read his other Fiber based book though. Fiber is something I lack in my diet and I want to keep learning as much as I can.

If you either suffer from a GI related issue of some kind, or are just interested in learning about the emerging science of the gut micro biome, this is an interesting read. It’s more of a science manual than a cookbook, but it is well written that as a complete layman when it comes to biology, I was still able to keep up. Dr. B does a good job outlining what we currently know about gut health science, and the interesting and emerging science of the gut micro biome, and how it effects the whole body. On top of that, there are some solid looking vegetarian recipes in here I’m excited to try out.

While this book wasn’t able to address my personal problem, it may be a good one to check out for other people with GI problems, or just those interested in increasing the plant diversity in their diet.

I read both Fiber Fueled and The Fiber Fueled Cookbook.
The Fiber Fueled COOKBOOK is a much easier read in that it summarizes the information in Fiber Fueled and has lots of recipes with color photos.
Theme: Our gut microbiome is supremely important to our overall health.
Our gut biome functions to "(1)Make nutrients available to our body (2) Optimize our immune system (3)Maintain metabolism (4)Keep blood sugar and cholesterol in check (5) Balance hormones (6) Balance endocrine signaling molecules (7) Support and protect brain (8) Support epigenetics by flipping switches for gene expression".

As Dr. B says, there is growing evidence that a whole-food, plant-forward diet is beneficial for many health conditions, including autoimmunity. While Dr. B is clearly on the vegan/oil-free/sugar-free side, it depends on your microbiome whether vegan (Fiber Fueled), omnivore (Mediterranean), or carnivore (AIP/Wahls) will be sustainable for you.

In the meantime, I'm very much enjoying my exploration of the concepts and recipes of Fiber Fueled and the companion cookbook The Fiber Fueled Cookbook: Inspiring Plant-Based Recipes to Turbocharge Your Health

My one complaint is that the index of the cookbook leaves much to be desired when trying to look up individual recipes

This is more than a cookbook! Written by a gastroenterologist who knows how to heal our gut microbiome by identifying and dealing with food intolerances and supporting out gut microbiome through a variety of foods. These are complex topics that Will Bulsiewicz describes brilliantly in his original Fibre Fueled book and this cookbook. I have tried a few recipes so far and they were great. I love the flavour profile from the ingredient and spice combinations. I am not vegan but it is easy to add meat to the recipes if desired.

A great resource

He gives practical advice to find out why your gut feels bad and what possible foods are the cause of your gut health. Then he explains how to incorporate healthy foods to heal your gut.

I think I like it better than his first book because it is more applicable. Plus, I think he has added more explanations with the recipes about the foods to include. In them. However, it has a lot more information than a cookbook. If you want just recipes, you might be disappointed. But I loved it because he explained the why behind using the recipes. I would highly recommend as it’s easy to read too.

Absolutely love this cookbook. I bought after listening to the book.

I started using this cookbook in January and cook a new meal once a week. So far I’ve made:

- Cocoa nana smoothie bowl
- Eggplant dip
- Tempeh eggplant sandwich
- Great Greek Grain Salad

All of the food has been super filling, a great introduction to those who are new to plant based meals, reusable ingredients eggplant dip goes with many dishes and many dishes are pretty cost friendly), the benefits of each one, beautiful pictures, easy step by step, nutritional meals, etc etc

Absolutely love and highly recommend

What a great cookbook! This is perfect for anyone suffering from digestive or health issues, as he has chapters separated by specific protocols. It's easy to follow, and as a Wellness coach, it's invaluable to me for my clients. The recipes are amazing, too! My meal plan clients love everything so far, and Dr B's renewed mine and my husband's love for tahini!

It seems odd to “read” a cookbook however there’s much more to this book than recipes. Dr. B. goes into a fair amount of detail about his gut healing process. I almost feel that I don’t need to go back and read the book. I’m looking forward to preparing a lot of the recipes in the book as well as ferment and sprout. I love Dr. B’s caring nature and enthusiasm for the gut.

beans, for example, would set off waves of crippling abdominal pain, gas, and bloating. One bowl of whole-wheat pasta would make me feel like my insides were a distended balloon

This book goes beyond Fiber Fueled and dives deeper into FODMAPs, histamine intolerance, and other causes of food intolerances.

I'm counting this as a read book because with the recipes are chapters of reading about gut health, the effects of certain foods on the digestive system, fermenting and sprouting. This book has a ton of great information and a very do-abe approach to healing the gut. I have tried 4 of the recipes so far and they have all been very good with little tweaking needed.

I'm on a journey with my gut, and learning and reading about things along the way. This book is top of my list for information that is useful and helpful. It is especially hard to find information to support gut health that is plant-based.

One might think this book is most the recipes, however it is a good mix of recipes and information and science.

More than a cookbook, I liked the way Dr Bulsiewicz (gastroenterologist) explained the science and nutrition behind ingredients and preparation methods. A lot of the book is talking about issues with the gut. There recipes are split into FODMAP recipes and Low Histamine recipes.
If you don’t have any specific issues you can eat any of the recipes.

The Tofu ricotta is delicious as is the cookie milks.
There are definitely some lovely looking plant based recipes which I am looking forward to making.

This book seems like a good resource if you have digestive issues. It's really a vegan cookbook as he doesn't have proof of benefit to the microbiome of any animal products. I am not going to go through the FODMAP and the histamine challenge so instead, I'll appreciate the recipes for inspiration for interesting, fiber rich meals.
