Lourdes & the Mafia

Rate this book
Lourdes Rivera has spent her entire life relying on others. From friends, to family, to mediocre boyfriends. Now that her best friend Naomi is moving in with the Kraken Motorcycle Club, this is Lourdes’s chance to prove her independence once and for all. But after putting up an ad online, the last thing she expected when she greeted her new roommate was to be stabbed and left for dead.

Bloody and with nowhere else to go, a vision of the future leads Lourdes into the depraved and mysterious club known as Sinful, and straight into the arms of the three, sexy demon brothers who run it.

As the seer’s safety is threatened, Lourdes has no choice but to accept the demons’ help in uncovering who’s out to get her. But hiding out in the Underworld comes with its own complications. See, the brothers are more than they appear. Not only are they rulers of the afterlife, but also of the entire supernatural, criminal underbelly.

And as the mysterious threat grows in power, Lourdes will have no choice but to put her trust–and heart–in the hands of the three men that want to claim her for themselves.

Lourdes & the Mafia is a spin-off of the standalone, Queenie & the Krakens. While you do not have to read Queenie to understand Lourdes's story, it is highly recommended that you do. That being said, this book is a Reverse Harem, Why Choose standalone that contains themes that may not be appropriate for readers under 18.

This is a reverse harem starring a dark skinned bbw afro-latina who's also a seer and her three men who are demons and kings of the underworld. After Lourdes is attacked by her new roommate. She escapes and ends up at a club ran by her future boos. From there, they're on a mission to figure out who is after her and why she was attacked. This story was solid. I didn't love the book but it was enjoyable. This paranormal harem is a poc one. Praise God!! It's such a relief to find a RH/poly book starring a black woman where there's no white men involved. Nothing against those books. I read them but it gets tiring always seeing white men and only them as the love interests. The fact that all 3 of the guys, Kane, Lorenzo and Ramiel are moc made me happy. I want to see more harem books with black women having non white men or not just white men as their love interests in 2023.

It was a good book! I got an arc from the author and while I usually don’t like RH or why choose I liked this one quite a bit. I’m excited for continuing the series

Lourdes is funny most of the time, and the demon mafia trio is sizzle sizzle. This was well written and the spice was burning. I appreciated the action.
I sometimes found myself cringing, but my cringe meter is sensitive, so most of y'all may really like this.

Spice meter:
855,000 - 1,041,427 Scoville Units (Ghost Pepper)

You'll be all right with some milk and Popeyes biscuits with honey, but there is no shortage of spice.

Ok. So.
I loved this.
I really enjoyed being in Lourdes’ head. She’s hilarious and so relatable.
She’s really trying to find herself in this book.
She’s spent a lot of her life depending on others and getting in bad relationships, and having to endure a lot of criticism and hypocrisy from family and her best friend. So she’s trying to change her life, and then these demon kings just sort of toss things on their head, for her.

I really loved her growth, and the way the guys encouraged her and helped her gain confidence in herself and her choices.
The sex was hot as hell. (Heh.😏Get it?🫣)
The plot was pretty dang cool.
The characters were all so freaking good.
The fight scenes were horrendously dangerous and sad but also kept lighthearted with funny comments thrown in once in a while.
Sort of the theme of the book.
Dangerous, sad, sexy, with funny thrown in to keep it moving and I kept giggling.

And then there was a scene where I was literally bawling, cussing out the author for what she did, trying to read faster so I can get to the part where it would fucking go back to happiness…(Aleera…you know what you did, and you know it was wrong.😑😒) Thankfully, this is a romance, so it did. Thank fuck for HEAs, Is all I’m sayin’.

I’m just really happy I read this.
I do wish we got some more time with Ramiel, just by himself, since we got so much time with Kane, and Lorenzo…but still.
I loved it.
I can’t wait to see what’s next with this author.
I’m really hoping for another book set in this world.
I don’t want this to be the end.🥺

This book ate so much and it was so fun to read. This is a paranormal romance where the fmc a seer partners up with the 3 mmc who are are the 3 rulers of the underworld. At first they don’t like the fmc but are attracted to her. I liked the world and the take on fallen angels and these mafia underworld men. The romance is sexy and hot and they all compliment each other well. I guess this is also a monster romance because of what some of the mmcs can turn into. I love the rep the fmc is afro Latina and plus size and the mmcs are latino. Overall a very interesting and steamy read!

THIS FREAKING BOOK!!!!!!!
OMG ITS SO GOOD.
All the paranormal romance and fantasy elements that make this a fantastical experience.
The plus size representation is just exquisite.
Lourdes is a witch that can see the future and there was a recent attmept to kidnap her. As she runs she ends up at a sinful bar where a yummy demon helps her. He takes her to the underworld to heal her and this is where the plot takes off.
As she spends time in the underworld she is mezmerised over the depth of the world, she also goes through a journey to find herself, as well as find out why she is being sought after.
The world building in the book is so well done and so easy to grasp.
The steam had my heart and other body parts reacting wildly.
I think this might be one of the favorites of the year for sure!

Immediately 5 stars! Omg Aleera stole my heart ❤️ again with another fantastic book!

Let me start of my saying this book made me feel every emotion possible! Seriously! I was laughing with all the jokes and internal dialogue Lourdes had to say!
I was angry or frustrated anytime her stupid ex was mentioned! Ayy that man! Gross
I was falling in love! I definitely was turned on with all the spicy/smutty scenes! Wow just wow!
I was crying! Yes! I was crying towards the end!

🔥🔥also I want to remind all my monster lovers that this book has TAIL PLAY! Do with that what you want! But holy moly that shits my jam! My all time favorite monster romance content!!

Lourdes is such a real queen! I swear her personally her sexiness her fierce energy to want to be independent! God I freaking love Her so much!
Lorenzo my man! I fell so in love with him the second Lourdes met him! THIS MAN PUT OF BONNET ON HER CURLS AFTER DEEP CONDITIONING IT!
That alone took my freaking heart! He is so caring and lovable! Hot hot hot 🥵
Ramiel! My king #daddy vibes
When I read about their first introduction 🥵🔥🫠 I melted into a puddle! When I found out more about his first words spoken “nam cara” yeah my heart ❤️ was mended and very well loved at this point!
Kane baby! Wow that man is totally unhinged in the hottest way possible! But it was all the quotes I have highlighted that he said to Lourdes that had my heart breaking and mending back together!

Ayy aleera did it again I fell in love with not only 3 hot men but with Lourdes!

There was also the underworld that I fell in love with too…..like how you’re probably asking.
But the way aleera described the underworld was insane, yes there are scary sides like the cursed valley!
But no it was her descriptions of land of lament!
Mount vita: volcano of life
Lake of sorrows

I swear this book was freaking phenomenal with all its descriptions of the world! The gentlemen/Demon kings Lourdes falls in love with
All the witty commentary! The action the plot the entire premise of this book!

Even down to the ending where we get a glimpse of more aleera has to offer for us readers!

I’m so excited to read more of Aleera! She is freaking fabulous and I always fall in love with the characters she creates ❤️

Reflection and Growth

This is very much a story about what it takes to find yourself and become who you have the potential to be and that part of the story was beautiful. But because of that, there is a lot of internal dialogue for significant portions of the story. With moments of sex, action, and dialogue in between. While it was a good story this made it hard for me to stay engaged. Honestly, I was almost 50% in before I even started to really enjoy the story. Lourdes is an easy character to sympathize with but for me not an easy character to like. Outside of the writing style my other main critic is that Ramiel felt significant to the plot but not to the romance, he felt like an outsider to the romance that took place between Lourdes, Lorenzo, and Kane. Overall it was enjoyed and at times entertaining but not necessarily characters I connected with.

Loved loved loved this book! Beautifully written and enjoyed every second!

Lourdes doesn’t have many people she can depend on so when she has to rely on three handsome demons who head a mafia, it turns her world upside down.

Someone is after her and they’re the only ones she feels safe with. Even if one of them is grumpy af about it.

I ugly cried at the end y’all. Ugly. Cried. 😭

Such a great why choose paranormal romance!

Spicy and Decadent

This story was SO WONDERFUL. From the epic battles, to the relatable main character, to the introduction of new magic. I loved Queenie’s story but I think Lourdes took my heart a bit more.

I’ve been burned too often by love and lust in the past, yet here I am. In the Underworld, surrounded by three sexy demon brothers who are offering to help me.

Aleera certainly knows how to pull me out of my comfort zone. Lol, this was such a fun read! Her writing always makes me enjoy tropes and…other things I don’t normally like in paranormal books.

Lourdes is such a strong woman. She’s easily one of the most relatable FMCs and I enjoyed the dynamic she had with her demon guys. Technically this book is a stand-alone however some characters from the previous book Queenie and the Krakens have cameos as they share the same world among the paranormal. Loved it!!

*More of 2.5*

I struggled with this one and how to rate it. So I ended up with a 2.5 since it rates somewhere between "it was ok" and "I liked it."

I went in expecting to love this book because I had a great time with Queenie & The Krakens and I was so excited to see Lourdes get her own standalone. Lourdes is still a good character that I care about but this book had some pretty big pacing problems for me. It dragged on in places and I found myself putting the book down for long stretches of time. There were pockets of plot or romance development that I really enjoyed but then it would go into a slower phase that would kind of stall it out for me. So it felt like an inconsistent reading experience.

The spice between Lourdes and her three mates was fantastic and creative. At the same time, I would have appreciated more time watching those relationships build a bit more, or at least a different ratio of time spent than what there was on the page. I still enjoy Aleera Anaya Ceres as a paranormal why choose author and will keep trying more of her stuff--this one was just a miss for me personally.

This is the first book I read by this author but it will definitely not be my last because holy smokes this was an absolute joy ride.

First can we get a round of applause for a plus size brown heroine?? That is desired by three gorgeous man. I cannot! I absolutely loved reading about Lourdes and relating to her daily tasks such a hair care or thick girl problems. Representation matters!!

Lourdes is a seer who finds herself in the underworld after her new roommate attacks her. Which sucks, but lands her at the hands of the hottest demons ever. Kane, Lorenzo, and Ramiel. These demon brothers were my absolute favorite.

I’ve read a lot of why choose romances and this definitely is one of the better ones! I accidentally read this book out of order but still completely understood what was happening. There is a book about her bestie that technically goes first but each can he read as a stand alone.

Can’t wait to read the authors Backlist!

I knew I was going to love this book. I’ve had it preordered since I finished Queenie and the Krakens last year but wow did it manage to exceed my expectations! I loved every single minute of reading this!

Aleera has an incredible way of sucking you into her stories and not letting you go until you reach that final page. I absolutely loved this book. I loved it just as much as Queenie, If not more! I loved Lourdes and her vulnerability, she isn’t quite as sure of herself as Queenie but wow watching her lean into her strength and magic, and finding her own way towards independence was nothing short of amazing.

And omg these men. I think I’m in love with all three of them equally. I don’t want to say too much cause I want everyone to just read this and experience Lourdes and the men who worship her.

I absolutely love this world Aleera has created. It’s amazing and I can’t help but want a million more books set there!

If you’re a fan of paranormal romance, magic, revers harems, monsters, men who worship their women, then look no further than Lourdes and the Mafia

I love the concept, vision and imagery of the book. But, it’s way too much cussing for me, to the point I DNF’ed it. For me she missed the mark on this one. It was too all over the place and some of the MC’s characters felted forced. Willing to try another book of her’s just not this one.

Didn't Connect With Characters

*****Spoilers*****

Ah Lourdes. Can we NOT with the second guessing and jumping to conclusions already? She meets Kane, Lorenzo, and Ramiel when Lorenzo takes her to the underworld after Lourdes is attacked in her home by Yassi whom Lourdes thinks is trying to kill her. So much for the roommate who seemed like she was innocent and sweet, only for her to take a stab at Lourdes, literally. Fast forward and the demon men who are close to imprinting on Lourdes, promise not to kill Yassi but to question her and bring Yassi to the underworld. Kane goes overboard and kills Yassi despite promising not to and here comes the relationship baggage. Lourdes can't trust the three because of the actions of one, I'm an independent woman and don't need any help, I'll just escape the underworld on my own without knowing anything about it, and oh by the way, I'll trust this demon bat woman in the underworld to help me. Sighs, just wanted to pull my hair out and it's less than 25% of the book at this point. Not to mention how broken up she is about Kane killing Yassi. Maybe if we learned that Lourdes was a particularly humane person. Maybe. But her best friend is a killer and dangerous so it doesn't really add up.

While she's running from the demon men on earth, she bumps into her ex who just happens to know where she'll be. Very suspicious like but Lourdes goes along in a daze for some reason and the ex attacks her. Why? Lourdes has a bounty for her capture and the ex wants in, only for demon men heroes to show and save the day again. Lourdes now understands she's perhaps gone too far on the distrust with Kane, Lorenzo, and Ramiel and this time stays in the underworld or with the demon men. There's more of the men trying to keep Lourdes out of danger, the lure of the fallen angel threatening her family to pull Lourdes out of the underworld, the I'm going to traipse off by myself to handle the big bad to protect everyone else, the sudden ability to wield her powers, and it's just hard for me to lose myself in, even the intimacy which I normally love.

I did find myself laughing out loud a few times at Lourdes' inner dialogue and could see where the author was trying to go with the book. For me, there wasn't enough and the word use could be beefed up some. One glaring misused word was Spectrum when I think the author possibly meant Specter. The Spanish mixed in was different, a good different. Wouldn't read another time.

Lourdes bothered me a little bit

This one didn’t really do it for me. Lourdes was a bit woe is me. But the guys poured into her and gave her confidence. Even at 65% I felt like a whole lot of nothing really happened. Maybe like 3 significant scenes. It also seemed like Lourdes is sometimes a little bit judgey of Naomi when she also is hanging out with “criminals” and has her own set of problems. The book happened in like all of 5 days. I get that time has passed in the real world but that didn’t make more happen in real time. You would think weeks or even months passed, especially the way it was written. The guys were expressing that they weren’t taking good enough care of Lourdes. What?! You’ve known Lourdes 3 days!!! Even when they were mad at Rami saying he knew for a while. Again, it wasn’t even a day. Then everyone told Lourdes she needed to train and practice her magic when in actuality she only needed to embrace it.

We’ve got a diverse group including latinx, Italian, black and probably some more all up in the mix. Love the culture displayed including the language, food and family dynamics. A lot of praise kink if that’s your thing. What I loved most though is that Lourdes essentially saved herself.

Why would she go anywhere with Dimus when he appeared out of nowhere when somebody tried to kill her? Lorenzo has healed her twice, why would she ask him if he had healing powers?

Thuriel kept saying he would kill her abuela but it was really her abuelita. If time works differently, Lourdes would’ve had to leave almost immediately after she spoke with Thuriel. Wouldn’t many of days/weeks passed in the mortal world? The book also doesn’t address how a mortal will be with immortal beings for longer than her lifetime. It was a missed opportunity for the bracelet and Lorenzo’s infused magic to make her other or more than mortal.

New to me author.

This was pretty fast paced read. Lourdes gets herself in a tricky situation but that tricky situation leads her on the doorstep of Sinful, owned by the Del Morte brothers.

Ugh, I loved them all. Lourdes was relatable and funny, Ramiel was so smooth and mysterious, Lorenzo.. the ever loving flirt, even Grumpy a-hole Kane was endearing (especially WHY he was such an a-hole- the grumpy ones always fall the hardest). This was both plot & character driven & there were a couple of 🌶 scenes. The group scene?🔥🥵.. my only wish was for more.

While I LOVE Lorenzo.. I do feel like he ended up being the "preferred" one? IDK, it was easy for him to get more scenes since he's the sensual/flirtatious/cinnamon roll of the group compared to the mysterious and the grumpy ones of the group, I wish Ramiel and Kane got just a little bit more to balance it out.

Where to begin…..

first of all my man Kane 😍 biggest heart eyes for that emo virgin demon. I loved them all, but he was my absolute favorite. The demon shadows 👌🏽🥵 him trying to ignore his own feelings and that being the reason he couldn’t touch Lourdes. 🥺 love love love love him.

Lorenzo: ughhhhhhh tbh I thought he was going to be my favorite but he still holds a place in my heart. He conditioned her hair and put it in a silk bonnet while she was unconscious so her curls wouldn’t get frizzy 🥹 he was so caring and sensitive and exactly what was needed to round out the other two brooding brothers.

Ramiel: I NEEDED MORE TIME WITH HIM!!!!! he knew they were mates, he shadow finger banged her first but we got the least amount of time with the angel of death 😕

honorably mention to Ralgoron because she was only in a few scenes but i really really liked her.

The ending had me crying because my sweet baby Kane was just in shambles and i love a bad boy with feelings 🥹🥹🥹

my only complaint….. why the turtlenecks? they are mentioned a few times too many in the beginning and i just 🥴

So I love Ms Ceres' novels because they are just a good time. Period. I do enjoy that she has a moral and growth storyline thrown in there to get your heart strings pulling, but in all honesty I eat these up because they are just a good time. I find myself giggling at the antics and the broody dominate males with the heroines who are well written and shine in their own right. In saying this I held out a five star because I feel that Lourdes could have been just a little bet more fleshed out with her back story. It just felt a little choppy in parts especially after her family was introduced but then her past was dug into any further.

The brothers though, HELLO! She fleshed them out plenty and I liked it, a lot. I enjoyed the growth that she showed of Kane. I would definitely recommend this if you just want a good time and a smile pretty much the whole time you are reading

Lourdes you beautiful bitch, my new favorite hero. There was so much to relate to in her story, in the guy’s backstories. Huge Gomez and Mortician Addams energy and I LOVED it. I also cried, so much, so so hard. What an incredible end. Thank you for for putting your whole self into this Aleera!!!

“If I live a thousand lifetimes, I hope you are a part of each one,” he says, his eyes burning like fire. “So I can remind you every day that you are enough. You are perfect.” He lets out a breath. “That you are my queen.”

Lourdes & The Mafia is a book I’ve been anticipating ever since I read Queenie & The Krakens because the small bits of Lourdes we got in that book made me fall so hard for her humor, her wit, her desire to love and be loved without losing her newfound independence, and her loyalty to those few she holds close. And then of course we also got just a small taste of the men who rule the Underworld in their club and it left me so curious and honestly drooling about the possibilities of what they could offer. As with my experience with Queenie’s book, Lourdes & The Mafia doesn’t play games. It hooks you right in chapter one and keeps a fast pace the entire time while also allowing for these pockets of time where a relationship can grow between these characters. Aleera’s writing has an addictive quality to it.
All three of these men/demons are written so well and so distinctly which is perfect in a why choose romance. I never got them mixed up or confused. There’s Ramiel the Angel of Death aka the ruler and King of the Underworld. He’s patient and understanding with Lourdes, and you can also see how much he cares about Kane and Lorenzo on a brotherly level.
Lorenzo is the Lord of Lament. He’s the charmer. He’s the caretaker. He’s the one who heals wounds, provides a shoulder to cry on, and loves to pamper and spoil Lourdes by giving gifts but also with physical touch. If you love a good bathing scene, Lorenzo is your guy. He’s also got a tail and knot which I’m never gonna complain about.
Kane is the complicated one. He is Lord of the Pit and it’s his job to dole out sadistic punishments to souls. It’s a job he loves but it also takes a toll on him. He’s the grumpy one, the one who hates how much he wants Lourdes, the one who loves to play power exchange games with Lourdes which includes using his shadow magic to tie her up. And that moment where he finally gives in and touches her? Unforgettable.
If you want a super fast paced why choose romance with dirty demons, knotting, tail play, praise, and other goodies you absolutely need to pick up this book when it releases December 1st. And while you don’t technically need to read Queenie & The Krakens to read this book, I’m still suggesting it because it’s such a good read too.

TWs: physical assault, attempted murder, physical abuse done by an ex boyfriend, violence

This was honestly so hard to get through, which was disappointing to me because I enjoyed the first book (from what I remember reading it two years ago) and was excited for this one. In my review of Queenie and the Krakens, I mentioned the writing felt Wattpad-ish but it wasn't so bad it really affected my enjoyment, unfortunately, this was not the case here. There were so many things like the dialogue, interactions between characters, and even just story progression that bothered me enough that it made reading this feel like a chore. I don't know if there is such a big difference in the quality of the story between the two books or if my own standards have changed but this just did not live up to the hype I had of it in my head.

I found Lourdes to be such an unlikeable and annoying protagonist. I can understand having insecurities and feelings of inadequacy as much as anyone, but it got to the point where I was just so irritated with her problems it felt unrealistic. There were things about her character that were attempted to be established throughout the book but none of those traits were ever shown. At one point she says "Naomi always lectures me for how curious I am" and all I could think was that there wasn't a single time in the story that made me believe that. All the things she complained about felt so one-dimensional and unfounded and the progression between her and the guys happened way too quickly with no real development in their relationships (apart from Kane who just decides to flip a switch and all of a sudden can let himself love her). In this case, I need more than a simple "she's our mate" as an explanation for the relationship.

I am pretty sad I didn't like this because all of the books by this author have such interesting premises to me but now I questioning if I'll continue trying to read them or not.

It isn't often that I pick up a fantasy/PNR/Supernatural romance. But when I read the blurb on this one, I was hooked, so I knew I had to delve in.

Lourdes, an innocent Latina witch, is dragged into the depths of the Underworld where she meets the 3 kings. Lorenzo - lord of healing, Kane - lord of torture and Ramiel - lord of death.
There, she discovers the true meaning of her powers. She is The Seer. And someone is trying to kill her for her powers. She cannot protect herself alone so she has no choice but to accept help from the 3 kings. 3 men who wants her because although she doesn't know it yet, she is their mate. And they will stop at nothing to protect her and make her theirs.

This book takes you away from reality. Transports you to a world that everyone fears. Hell. Set in Santo Domingo, D.R. the author tried to add as much colloquialism as she can which is refreshing to read. The scenes with the underworld are so mythical. It blows the imagination.

Rami, Kane, Lorenzo- 3 😈. Each with their own unique character traits. Lorenzo - soft with healing powers, tail and horns. Kane - hard and merciless, torturer, with wings and horn. Rami - fallen angel with black wings - the most powerful one.

The sex scenes are 🔥 🥵. Imagine a demon fucking you with his tail and you creaming on it. So fucking outta this world. No human dick here. No thank you.

Lourdes - woman enough to handle all three of them. Also harnessing her power and controlling it. The climax was epic. Has an Avengers - End Game battle climax.
