This is the awesome second book in the Houston After Dark series. Although part of a series, it can be read as a standalone. I was not aware that this was the second book in a series when I read it and I certainly didn’t feel that I was missing any necessary information needed to enjoy this book. And I have to say that I really did enjoy this book.
This book follows one of my favourite tropes, that of ‘brother’s best friend’. I love the angst that happens in these books and this book certainly follows that as Noah and Callie keep their relationship secret from Callie’s brother Grant.
This book is HOT with capital H, O and T. Noah is a Dominant with barbell piercings in a very intimate place which add to the sexiness of the sex scenes.
I really enjoyed reading Callie and Noah’s story. Callie is totally badass and takes no prisoners and is not afraid to fight for what she wants, And what she wants is Noah.
This is a great read, which I definitely recommend.

Wow, what can I say? Well, Deborah has smashed this story, just when I was thinking that the last two books were fantastic, along comes Hard Lover.
Brilliantly written, tremendous characters with a heartwarming storyline too.
Full of intrigue and suspense, not to mention the hot steamy scenes with Noah and Callie.
Hard Lover follows on from the first book, where it was left with Callie being attacked.
Can Noah protect Callie? Will Noah's past catch up with him? Will Callie and Noah get a HEA?
Well...purchash the book to find out, I can honestly say that you will love it as I do.

I knew just from reading the description of this book that the heat and the chemistry between the main characters would be intense. I didn’t realise just how much! Sparks absolutely flew from the page each time they were together. The connection between them completely consumes you and you just get lost in them.
This is one of those books where the storyline almost doesn’t matter because they characters are so captivating but the author has created a brilliant book to match. I loved reading what was going on and really felt like I was part of the journey. This is a hot and steamy story that just blew me away.

More like 4.5 stars since the ends in a cliffhanger that leads to Zane’s story.
Got a unicorn heroine and a no strings sex hero who works in a sex club due to his past.
Dang good story until the end, (evil eyes)!
6 years Callie has wanted Noah, her brother best friend and co-worker but she believes he sees her as the little girl still and she’s 24, while he’s 31. But he can get close to a woman without the past rearing it’s spoiled psycho psychotic evil face and threats around and Noah has to pay no matter.
But with Callie pushing him will he finally face a 10 year old cold case to be righted??

Very suspenseful story. Interesting to get to know the characters and be engrossed in the plot as the layers are pulled back. Love Callie's drive, his determination and their chemistry is no holds barred. I didn't really understand though why Noah, being the alpha male that he clearly had become, would allow anyone to continuously threaten him. These two main characters were outstanding. The chemistry, sexual banter, flirting and that scene at The Stable was outrageously HOT!!! Another great read that you won't be able to put down.

There were a lot of things I liked with this book. Great characters and the chemistry between Noah and Callie is great. The story was good too but it took too long for them to get together. I found it kind of unbelievable that Noah as a Dom would not be more forthcoming in the whole situation. Callie knew and fought for exactly what she wanted and that was fantastic.
Just a lot of mixed signals for me.

Why do I have to go to work? I didn't want to put this book down, but I was reading before work and got to a really good oh no moment and had to leave. So much suspense throughout with things that happen to Callie and then also Noah's past. The romance scenes are HOT.

Deborah Garland has written a 5-star book. This is the story of Callie Rose and Noah. Callie has had feelings for Noah for a few years but he only sees her as a friend. Noah has feelings for Callie but he can't do anything about them since he has Erik after him. Ten years before, Noah's friend Mia was Erik's girlfriend but he was abusive toward her and Noah tried to stop him one night but it ended up with Erik killing Mia. Now Erik blames Noah for taking Mia away from him. Noah knows that if Erik finds out how he feels about Callie he will go after her. Callie and her two friends are having drinks and she asked them if they ever thought about going to The Stable sex club. Callie wants to go since she knows that Noah is a member. Her two friends agree to go with her to the club. Once there, Callie goes to the voyeur suite and she hears a voice she knows. It is Noah in the room with a woman. Noah is playing with the woman and looks up and sees Callie. He doesn't look at the woman but at Callie the whole time. When Callie goes back to her dorm, she is attacked and blacks out. Her brother, Grant calls Noah since they take care of security at the college that Callie is at. Noah goes to the hospital and checks on Callie. Grant has a favor to ask of Noah since he and his wife Avery are going on their honeymoon. The favor is for Noah to take Callie with him up to his parent's cabin for the week. At first, Callie tells them No, she can take care of herself. Noah ends up getting her to go with him. Things happen and they end up getting together but Noah tells her that it can't go further since he can't love anyone. He tells her they can have the week but after they have to go back to being friends. No one knows except his parents what he did ten years before. Erik finds Noah in Whispering Ridge and knows his truck. His mom has car trouble and his dad takes Noah's truck but doesn't make it to her because someone runs him off the road. Noah's dad ends up in the hospital. Noah has a feeling that it is Erik so he calls his friend Zane to come and get Callie and take her back home. Callie is not happy about going home but she can't do anything about it. Noah walks away from Callie so that she would be safe from Erik. Things don't work out the way that Noah hopes. Erik does something to Callie that makes her pass out. This is when Noah sees Erik for the first time in ten years. Noah goes to talk with his father about what to do about Erik.
Can Noah find some way to stop Erik so that he and Callie can be together?
What will happen when Grant finds out about Callie and Noah being together?
This was a wonderful book and I would recommend it to anyone.

Callie Rose, the female lead, has wanted Noah, the male lead and her brother’s best friend for years. When she watches Noah in a sex club with a woman who resembles her, she has hope that she can finally push for more. Noah hadn’t realised that he was picking a type of woman but there’s a reason he uses a sex club…
This story is dual POV, well written, and an interesting, intense, contemporary romance. I understood many of the choices Noah made but wished he’d communicated better for his own sake and those in relationship with him. I also appreciated Callie Rose’s loyalty and dedication to those around her, including Noah. I enjoyed the intimate scenes and the character and relationship development of both lead and secondary characters. Whilst the story stands alone, it would be enhanced by reading the first in the series for understanding secondary character interrelationships.

Book one, Rough Lover , a Romantic Suspense, New Adult, College, Age-Gap, Workplace, Boss's Daughter, Father's Client novel kicked things off with Grant and Avery. Now things are being taken up a notch.

Whereas some of the tropes are the same as in Rough Lover because of the setting both of the novels in the series so far take place in, Hard Lover most definitely takes the crown and runs with the baton. You'll see why when you read it, too.
Everything about Hard Lover for me was just so beyond amazing, as I knew it would be as I stated in my review for Rough Lover. There was just something enticing about this novel that from the moment I finished Rough Lover, I KNEW I was going to love Hard Lover and I'm very pleased to have confirmed my own prior notions about the novel.
Deborah has definitely at least to my knowledge from what I've read in this novel, worked on the feedback myself and other ARC readers have given her for Rough Lover, and she has run with that feedback and given us something absolutely amazing to read. Not that Rough Lover wasn't, but out of the two novels in the series so far (to which at this point in time, there will be three), this one is by far and large my favourite. I have no doubt that it will be others' as well.
Without diving into the unwelcome realm of spoilers, let me tell you what you're in for with Hard Lover. First of all, the story. Where to begin? This story took so many twists and turns, it was impossible for me to do what I usually do and guess where things were going or who was behind the devious actions going on. Which is a good thing. It means the author has really put their all into crafting a good story to keep us as readers guessing, and Deborah has certainly done that. Second, the steam level. Rough Lover touched upon the aspect of steamy, but Hard Lover went there . Literally. Right from the outset, no holes were barred and we were in the thick of it, getting a taste of what could possibly continue or get hotter, later on. I could not get enough of the sexy and steamy moments within Hard Lover, no lie. I might have even gone back to the beginning of some scenes and read them a few times over before moving on. Those intense moments were coupled with tenderness, which is greatly appreciated as a reader to see. It's not all wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am and that's it. Noah is as much a gentleman as he is a badass in bed.
Noah and Callie were a joy to read in their own independent novel within this series, and I truly hope that more people give them a chance and read their story. The road from friends to lovers was not one of an easy path, and the journey to get to their destination (Happily Ever After) is one I definitely recommend to anyone looking for a must read novel.

Wow what a second book in the series this is. I loved the first and wondered how the next could compare but this one is just incredible.
Hard Lover follows the story or Callie (Grants Sister) and Noah (Grants best friend) When we left book 1 we had just read that Callie had been attacked and this book picked up right from that moment.
Callie is a strong courageous young woman. She knows what she wants out of life but she also knows how she feels. Callie has been harbouring a crush on her brothers best friend for years. This story takes us on her journey through college and the struggles that she faces. This girl has held her V card for the man she desires most only he wont stop treating her as more than her best friends little sister. until she turns up at his sex club and BOOM!!
Noah oh Noah (i bloody love him) He is a man who lives the pain of his past. Being hunted by a madman who blames him for taking something from him. Noah went on the run after witnessing the murder of his friend at the hands of his own gun. He has lived with the fear of this catching up with him and had someone remind him of the event every time he gets close to someone , so Noah has led a lonely life. His feelings for Callie have been locked away until his heart and mind can hold it back no more.
These 2 get forced to spend some quality time together and fight off each others budding feelings but how long can they last and how long will the mad man stay away. Get this book and read it now just to find out. You will not regret it. The things these two get up 2 are some sexy ass things. Seriously wow!!
This book touches subjects that could be triggering for others mentions of guns etc but this book is just amazing I read it in 1 sitting because i could not put it down and I can not wat for Zane's story now. Bring it on Deborah I need more.

This is a very hot and steamy read. The connection and attraction between the main character is electric and jumps off the page. As a reader you are completely consumed by this couples feelings and attraction. You feel the fight that they go through to not give into their feelings but sometimes there is nothing you can do to fight the attraction.
Callie has lived a protected life with her over protective brother but she is a grown woman and feels its time to go after what she wants. And what she wants is her brother best friend Noah.
When she goes to a club hoping to bump into him she gets more than she imagined when she witnesses him with another woman. This vision caused her crush to go from simmering to boiling hot and she knows there is no turning back.
Noah spots Callie in the crowd watching him. He is shocked but also completely captivated by her. His feelings for her change and grow and he wants her so bad.
When Callie is attacked, he takes her in with the intention to protect her as a favour to her brother but as time goes on he realises that he's also doing it for himself. He is falling for her and can't help himself.
However, this romance isn't going to be plain sailing. By being with him Callie is in danger and no matter how much he wants her he needs her to keep her distance to protect her from someone in his past.

I liked this book, but I felt like I needed more. In the description it talks about the club and him being a voyeur as his new kink. But sigh, the only voyeur scene we get is the one that is literally in the description of the book. I thought we would at least have some scenes of them with some kinks etc, but no it was just vanilla sex, which surprises me once again. Also it literally

Super hot ! Super steamy! You will need a fan and and ice water when you read this one. This story features Grant’s (from Rough Lover) baby sister and his friend and now colleague, Noah. Baby sister, Callie, is all grown up and knows what she wants. Noah had always treated Callie like a little sister, because she was the little sister of his bestfriend and boss, Grant. Callie had had a crush on Noah ever, since she met him six years ago. Currently, her and a couple of her friends were discussing a local kink club that Noah was a member and known to frequent often. One friend's uncle worked as a bouncer at The Stable so they all three decided to check the club out. When they got there the girl's uncle did not want to let them in, but he got his wife to seat them away from any action where she could watch them. Shortly, after being seated a big scene started in a glassed in pit. Callie felt drawn to go closer to watch only to discover the man was Noah. They stared into each other's eyes throughout the entire scene. After, that everything changed between Noah and Callie, but he still refused to have to have any type of relationship with her, because he refused to betray her brother and there was something mysterious in his past. Shortly, after the incident at the club Callie was attacked in the stairway of her of dorm. As a result her brother asked Noah to take her to Whispering Ridge with him on his family's vacation to protect her. While they were there someone ran Noah's father off the road in Noah's truck. Grant and Callie's father was granted a new trial and he managed to get out on bail doing while he was out, he helped Noah complete an act of heroism to save Callie. There was lots of action and steam to go with the mystery and intrigue in this wonderful story.

Alright, if you read the first book in the series, then I want to let you know this book is just as spicy as the first one. It took me longer to read than other books, just because I only read it at home and not in public. I love the characters and I loved the redemption arc that came in at the end. I can’t wait to see that continue into the next one (which, Deborah left us baited and hooked. Good gravy. When is Zane’s story coming out?!)

This book is hot. I love Callie Rose’s sass and determination to make the man she wants notice her. Her brother’s best friend has been her secret crush for years and she’s tired of waiting for him to notice her so she comes up with a plan. And once she puts her plan in motion, Noah Archer will never get her out of his mind. Her plan works, maybe too well considering the specifics of Noah’s life. He has a seret that forces him to live his life alone. Now he wants Callie more than he’s ever wanted anything, but claiming her puts her in danger so he has to stay away.
Too bad keeping his distance is impossible because she doesn’t want to be protected, she wants Noah, consequences be damned. These two are perfect together in every way and the heat is off the charts. There’s just the right amount of suspense for a delicious balance between the romance and the danger. If you like hot cowboys with dark secrets and bold women who aren’t afraid to go after the man of their dreams, then stop what you’re doing and read this book right now.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and had my work life balance allowed I would have read it in one sitting. It is an emotional, dramatic and occasionally dark best friends little sister romance.
This is the second book in the series, but is great as a stand-alone, I can defiantly say I am going to go back to the start and read the first book.
Callie Rose has for years hidden the fact that she has feelings for her brothers’ best friend. After her parents are jailed, she is raised by her brother so her relationship with him is extremely close. And his view of his little sister is that of one that he needs to protect, as their father is not around. Studying at College Callie makes the decision to try and win the affection of Noah.
Noah an Army veteran has a past that he is trying to keep in the past. He has someone who is threatening those he becomes close to. His boss and best friend know nothing about this, and although he has feelings towards his best friends sister, he knows he cannot put her at risk by having a relationship with her. He vents his sexual feelings at The Stable, the local sex club. This works well until the night Callie Rose sits there watching him. But who else is watching, as his past continues to follow him, car accidents, attacks and drugging all add up to an all-encompassing read with a healthy smattering of explicit content.

Hard Lover is a spicy romance I couldn’t put down! A best friend's little sister romance. A forbidden fruit romance. The author wrote a story about Noah and Callie Rose that has so many roller coasters you don’t want to get off one to get on the next. The dynamic and chemistry between the two characters is off the charts.
So what’s the problem?
What’s keeping them at arm’s length?
Someone’s out for revenge and unfortunately for Noah that person is closer than he realizes. He wants Callie Rose with every fiber of his being, but he’s holding back. And for good reason. He’s willing to take the blow back that would result from his best friend, Callie’s old brother, finding out unfortunately that’s not the real reason he’s holding back. It’s to protect her. If he gives in now he puts her in danger. But have their slips already done that?

Omg!! This was the first book I have read by this author and let me tell you if you are looking for a steamy series this is the one for you!! I could not put the book down. This is the second book in the series but you can read it as a stand-alone. With that being said I am going back to read the first book to the series.
Callie and Grant haven't had the best childhood but when it came right down to it Grant stepped up to take plate to take care of his little sister Callie. When the opportunity came for Grant to open his own PI business with a silent partner funding the company.
Callie and her friends decide to have a little fun at the local adult club Callie had no idea she would end up seeing the man who has occupied her dreams for the last six years. When Noah locks eyes with Callie he can't take his eyes off her. He knows he should turn away from his best friend's little sister but he can't help it! He finds it very hot that she is enjoying herself while watching him enjoy himself. But could this mean she has the hots for him?
When Callie gets attacked on campus and Grant finally is getting to take his honeymoon, can he trust his best friend Noah to keep her safe while resisting the temptation that has been growing between them for six years?
I can not rave about this book enough!! It was absolutely phenomenal.

This book literally roped me in right from the start I do always very much enjoy the writings and books by this wonderful author, but this one was a special read. I got a lot more than I expected, and I do not mean just romance, I mean story, plot, characters and all that jazz! This book was more than just a good time!
What I loved about this book, was that it really held its realistic notes right to the very end. I felt the characters were very connectable, and able to visualize without faults. I loved the whole forbidden romance, being Noah is Callie's BFF and that means off limits. I didn't expect the romance and building between these two to be as hot as it was! I loved their moments and the fire they had between them together. And Noah was great, everything you dream of having n a guy, plus great at those steamy moments sure were a bonus! I loved the dept of the characters, and how they grew within themselves as well around each other! Loved this book!
Once again this author has truly nailed it! I could not put this book down, and certainly did not want it to conclude! High recommendation from me for sure, do not pass up this must read book and author!

This book was so good - it came out swinging with the club, but then followed it up with an interesting and well written story, to boot. Will be checking out more by this author.

Is THAT why she is still a virgin interested in visiting a sex club, or is it all because of Noah? Will she find him there? Will he turn her away?

He is a long standing member of The Stable, the local sex club with all sorts of kinks and opportunities safely available for people to enjoy. When he sees his best friends little sister standing outside of his voyeur room, he decides to see how interested she is...and it gets pretty hot. Will he break Callie's heart or will he continue to see her as a little girl? Will they get to play?

I get why he didn't want to tell Grant about what happened when he was in college, though I wish he had said something sooner.

This book is the second in the series but the first one that I have read. It is definitely a book you can read at any time. This book has it all, suspense, intrigue, forbidden lovers, friends younger sister, and a crazy person. All these things lead to an amazing book. The suspense keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning pages as quickly as you can. The steamy scenes in-between will make you blush and then blush even more because it is written so well you actually feel ,like you are witnessing these events. There were times where I actually diverted my eyes due to what was happening on the pages.
Will the main characters be able to end up together or will someone make sure that doesn't happen? That is what I was constantly asking myself while reading this book. The past has a way of revealing itself and the damage that it can cause leads to page turning suspense. I highly recommend this quick read to anyone who likes to sit on the edge of their seat and loves some good steamy scenes. WOW! I am completely amazed with this book. Some steamy books go extra on the sexy stuff and kind of forget about the storyline. I am happy to report that Hard Lover does NOT make that mistake. While it has plenty of hot scenes from the very beginning, I still loved the depth and evolution of Callie and Noah’s story.
Noah has always seen Callie as a friend and someone he should help look after. Her brother, Grant, is his best friend and they have always looked out for each other as well.
