Audacious Heir

Rate this book
Sparrow Winchester. I want to take her, lock her up in my imaginary cage, and never let her go.

Instead, I choose to break her; break her wings so well that she can’t fly without my assistance.

She doesn’t know it, but she drives me to hurt her. Every way she calls out to me, I answer. She wants it and I want to do it for her.

She’s my Sparrow even if I’ve changed from the boy that she once knew four years ago.

Four years, that’s how long it’s been since I lost my uncle,Walt, a man who I considered as a second dad. He was there for everything and now, he's not here at all.

I know my birth giver, I refuse to call her my mother because she doesn’t deserve that title, had something to do with it.

I will find out if it’s the last thing I do.

Afterall, I am Rowe Cambridge, The Audacious Heir.

Warning: bully romance.

Great storyline with characters that had layers to their personality. Wonderful writing and only minor editing mistakes.

However, I really dislike the bully romance trope. It always comes off like Stockholm Syndrome to me. Why would you like or be attracted to someone who physically and emotionally abuses you on a regular basis?

I understand the premise of the character. A tortured alpha hero with a painful home life. But why does that make it ok to hurt someone else?

Rowe redeemed himself towards the end by recognizing his true feelings for Sparrow. But their first sexual interaction will always feel coerced. Too bad he didn’t come to his senses before that.

Ok so I love a book 📖 where a man is mean to to girl he likes. Crazy 🤪 but it makes the book 📖 hood to read. Rowes mother smh I really want to know why she did it and how. I really did enjoy this book 📖 it keeps you interesting in founding out what happens next. It keeps you engaged with what's happening.crazy how everyone blamed him for what his mother did and the whole school turned their backs on him.. but that shows how fake ppl are. I can't wait to see what happens next. It was worth the read.

Beautiful

I’d read this again in a heartbeat. Pennelope Rose did an amazing job of writing Rowe’s and Sparrow’s story. I love that the Cambridge men are true alphas.
The funniest part of this book was Ray and Nora getting knocked out, I was dwl 😂😂. I highly recommend reading this, can’t wait to see what Whit has in store for Moonlight

Good debut!

Bwwm high school bully romance that is enjoyable for young and the young at heart. This is A really good book for a new author. The cover so bad sexy and fits with the personality conveyed of Rowe our male lead. I don't do spoilers in my reviews but I will recommend this book and will be rereading. Sparrow our young black love interests is a smart and sweet girl who knows how to spark the jealously and possessive out of Rowe. This boom does have sexy smut but its not the whole theme of the book but it adds to it 💦😈. I hope the character Jones will get his own book as well.

Rowe Cambridge was not a boy, but very much a man. Sparrow was flying over her head getting anywhere in his vicinity. The 2 of them have a history from childhood to present day. However the dynamic is nothing like it was before, and instead of her best friend he is her tormentor. As he works to trap his little bird and she works to understand his reasoning for hating her it brings some unexpected answers for them both.

Rowe and Sparrow will have you falling love with them and their story. Pure angst and soo hot. Be prepared for the unexpected with this one!

• One of the funniest books I've ever read😭😭

•I've read a lot of bully romance books to last me a lifetime, and I'm getting tired of the Tropes being repetitive. It's the classic rich guy x rich girl who were childhood best friends then she moved away and now she's back and he hates her for no reason but one scene he turns full circle and says he's always loved her😭 mind you this is after bullying her and it's always some plot twists with the parent's so much shit is happening you forget that they are supposed to be in high-school (17yr olds)

•Giving this a 3-star rating cause of how funny it was 🤣🤣like please can we all stop thinking we can write a book and just read.

•Penelope Douglas did it better in Bully if you ask me Rina Kent nailed it with the RES, A.Jade wasn't bad either with Creul Prince and other authors that I can't seem to remember

•My point is you can still write a bully romance without making it a dark romance like what happened to the fluffy romance books? Contemporary or any other shit bedside dark romance??? Everything these days is either DR or Reverse Harem(a conversation for another day)

•All in all I can see that the author put in alot of effort or rather ideas but it was just too much and all over the place it felt like reading fan fiction of the said authors I mentioned earlier.
Anyway, see you later 👋

Okay-Review with Spoilers

Spoilers
I think the book was pretty good, but what I don’t like is when authors don’t do proper research. I’m referring to when Rowe found out that Whit isn’t his father. He was handed a DNA test that said Whit wasn’t the father. With Whit being an identical twin the DNA would’ve showed Whit as the father because identical twin have the identical DNA. I know this because I am an identical twin. So again do research.
Also, I wanted Sparrow to have a better come back on Nora than what she did. It felt flat.
This book to me also read more like a prequel in my opinion than it’s own novel.
All in all the book was a decent read

WTF Did I Read?

And why did I have fun reading it?

By no means was this story decent. I read the entire book with furrowed brows. Still, I finished the book. For some reason it was entertaining for me…

BTW, what was going on with Sparrow kinda having a thing for the dad, while dating Rowe?

4.50 Stars. (BW/WM). I read Kindle Unlimited Edition of the 165 page novella e-book.

Setting: Current times starting in Houston, Texas and concluding in California.

Trope: Childhood best friends to adolescent crushes to high school enemies to lovers and promised life partners.

Characters:
1. Sparrow Winchester, the 18-year-0ld heroine, is a Texas transplant to California maintaining an honors GPA at Glenn Royal Academy from freshman to senior years.
2. Rowe Cambridge, the 18-year-old hero, is the third generational heir to the multi billion dollar Cambridge dynasty. Rowe is also a basketball star and one of the most popular and influential students at Glenn Royal Academy.
3. Whitman and Walton Cambridge, twins, are the current heirs of their family fortune and are the father/ uncle to Rowe.
4. Dr. Berg is the family psychiatrist.
5. Dr. Gladys Connor is Whitman's best friend and Rowe's pediatrician.
6. Anika is Rowe's mother.
7. Mr. & Mrs. Winchester are Sparrow's traveler business owning traveling parents.
8. Moonlight is Sparrow's aunt, Rowe's uncle's girlfriend-aka Moonbean, Rowe's father's nemesis .
9. Devlin is Rowe's teammate and he and John are Rowe's supportive friends.

This is a well written story with well developed memorable characters, a well paced storyline with an interesting plot and twist. Rowe and Sparrow meet in Houston as five-year-olds when Rowe was visiting his Uncle Whit who was dating Moonlight, Sparrow's aunt. During the eight years prior to Whit's death, Sparrow and Rowe became best friend with romantic crushes; but after Whit's death and the turbulant behavior of his parents, propelled Rowe into a controlling selfish distrustful person. Although he had his father secretly lighten the financial burden of moving to California to allow Sparrow to be near him, he distanced himself from her and made her feel rejected by him in the name of preserving her loyalty and good nature. After almost four years of "bullying" her, he surcame to his love and romantic feeling for her. Their is a sweet romance ending with their attending the same college and a promise of marriage after they graduate college.

Rowe was a mentally messed up kid

He didn't know how to handle the loss of his uncle/ bio dad whom he really loved. He and the man he knew as his dad Whitman were only happy when they visited him and his girlfriend Moonlight. With Walt's untimely death and his mother being charged with the attempted murder of her husband, Rowe just went bonkers. Even though the Cambridge family had power and influence in their community, Rowe just took things a step beyond, especially when he was at school. He treated the one person he cared about and she about him, horribly. She reminded him of the happy time he had with his uncle and did not know how to handle his grief and his parent's messed up marriage. When he finally accepted what Sparrow meant to him, she became his calming force.

This book triggered me in more ways than one. It was well written. I just don't like teen coming-of-age books. I know teens are sexually active but I hope this story does not represent real life. Sparrow's being held hostage and eventual loss of her virtue just did something to me. This is a very dark story with a somewhat bright ending.

Heck yeah! this story rocked!

I love a good bully novel and this was one for sure. Rowe & Sparrow started off as besties, then enemies, then a couple. Pretty standard bully troupe (which I love thank you very much!) with its own individual twists that kept me riveted throughout! The book wrapped up with an HEA BUT have more story (backstory) to be told so will probably check those out too eventually.
Another new to me author I think?? Penelope Rose, and I really enjoyed it. Like I’m one to talk as I always have them too but lots of typos and incorrect tense used but not enough to “throw me out” of the story. Spicy scenes 🔥😮‍💨🥵 wows-za! Made me forget these guys are high schoolers, elite ones yes with rules that don’t apply to us lowly plebs but still! Burned up my pages!!
All in all, a good read! I liked both characters and loved the fact our h was NOT a doormat!! She was tough and stood up for herself. Those are my favs! I hate when the h is weak and allows herself to be treated like 🗑️! It’s the worst. Not Sparrow! She fought back and made sure nobody took her for granted. Great read!!

Rowe & Sparrow’s young crazy love💘💘💘

Rowe and Sparrow are two lovers I didn’t expect would experience so much at such a young age😱😬 Thank goodness they worked through the issue and found a way to forgive and come together😘😘😘.

I was blown away at how Rowe treated Sparrow. I get young love and being naive but holy hell this was beyond that, Im just happy that Sparrow realized her worth at one point to back off🥺. Rowe had his personal issue that should not have been acted out on Sparrow😖. I felt the pain they were in and their trying to handle it best they can🥰. The mom is something else and thank goodness Rowe didn’t have to spend much time with her. Whit doing the best he could as a parent❤️.

Trigger warning, this is a bully romance of teenagers. I typically don’t read books with young characters but was curious about the series and I don’t regret reading it and curios to see futures books by this author. I recommend the book and the entire series👍🏽.

Exquisite

I enjoyed this book so much. Rowe was the embodiment of the high school bad boy. He was complicated, both sad and angry but the alpha of his school. Sparrow and Rowe were very friendly when they were younger but as his life spiraled he pushed her away but didn’t want anyone else to get close to her. Rowe’s two true friends ….Jones and Delvin….were very interesting and I hope they get a story at some point.
The next story in this series involves Rowe’s dad and Sparrow’s aunt….

decent high school love story

It was a beautiful love story ? I don’t really know to be fair I don’t really like spicy high school romance books I don’t get it they are so young and already acting like they are 25… the story was good and good bikky romance if I may say myself even though they were friends years before that… idk he’s justification for his torture doesn’t sit right with me and her just accepting everything nah I’m good. Not to mention he literally sexually abused her to get her to submit to him he’s a weird one !

The Cambridge men are demented, abusive, assholes. Some of their actions were so appalling??? There was no apology for how he treated Sparrow and his trauma was just supposed to excuse/redeem him???

Now that I got those obligatory statements out the way I ate this shit up. Idk what that says about me but I was having a good ole time. Sparrow being attracted to the father as well was so relatable I loved it.

It would’ve been way better in a non high school setting because I couldn’t take his “alpha ness” serious at times knowing the bell dismissed them.

Wow!!!

I don't know if I have the words for how this book made me feel because honestly my emotions are all over the place. There were several times when I had to put my Kindle down because I couldn't stand to read how Rowe treated Sparrow!!! I knew it came from a place of hurt but it was still hard to read. I'm glad that he finally came to terms with his true feelings for her and I hope that he and his father Wilt get the answers to the questions they both have in Book Two!!!

Welll, What Do We Have Here??

Flipping through my “To Be Read” list, this particular one popped up. Been there for a while, so much so I’d forgotten I’d had it on there. Damn am I glad I kept it there! The steam alone was worth it. Loved the want to/but I don’t dynamics of Rowe & Sparrow, on down to the switch in Daddy Whit.. Gotta admit, it gave me all of the feels I was expecting and then some. On to book 2, I’m so ready.

Rowe and Sparrow

Childhood friends who were closer than family. She moves closer to Rowe after tragedy struck his family, he can't deal with his emotions so he treats her like an enemy. She is crushed and doesn't understand his meanness and cruelty. He blocks any type of friendships she makes for four years, then one day everything changes! Good read!

Wow...

Great read! I love stories about flawed individuals who are fighting their way to find love and understanding. Rowe was a total alpha-male and I can't wait to hear more about his journey with Sparrow. I also can't wait to read more about Whit. Moonlight better sleep with one eye open!

4.25/5 Love a good bully romance, however I do think he took it too far sometimes. Causing her physical harm isn't the best way to say "I love you" and I do think she gave in to him a little too easily. Overall I did enjoy it, I do wish that it wasn't a high-school romance because that felt a little weird.

This book I’m sooooo glad I came across it and I was hooked on from the beginning to the end. The Cambridge family men are something else and I can’t wait to find out more about them and find out if the dad is still alive. Best book so far for me in my 2022 reading journey

Great Start!!!

This first book in this series was Avery intriguing read. There’s tons of drama, intrigue, mystery and humour to keep you entertained till the end. OMG the humour was off the charts. That Whit definitely has BDE, in spades. I’m looking forward to seeing what happens next with characters and the unraveling of the the mystery of Walt. Highly recommend this story!!!

A fairly good read if you aren’t triggered by some sections. I don’t think it is ever acceptable to rough up women, threaten them, or choke them out. I’m glad it was minimal scenes like that but it was one too many. Despite that, I am intrigued about Rowe’s father and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series.

The potential was there, and I was so excited at the beginning but it didn't deliver in the end. The complete 180 of Rowe came off as too quick and sudden to be believed. Sparrow also just accepting Rowe after putting her "through hell" was also too convenient. Hopefully, the other two books which are written by other authors do better in their storytelling.

what a great story of true love

I was searching for something to read and this book just made me want to read it and I am well pleased that I found this Author. You must read this story about betrayal, lies, and painful truth. Rowe was a bully but truly had a painful past. A must read
