Tables Turned by Susanne Ash is a sweet, clean contemporary romantic comedy about Aimee Lawrence, a struggling actress and bartender who dreams of making it big when a junior TV producer named Leo walks into her life with an offer that might be the break she’s been waiting for, only for paparazzi buzz, Hollywood pressure and small-town charm to complicate both her career hopes and her heart as she retreats to her family’s farm and navigates what truly matters most.

It is the first book in the Sweet Southern Romantic Comedy series, blending light entertainment industry drama with warm emotional beats and earnest romantic sparks.

What charmed me most about this story was how it gently balanced the glitz of an unexpected Hollywood opportunity with the grounded comfort of Aimee’s rural roots and familiar faces, making her journey feel both adventurous and deeply personal. Aimee’s earnest optimism and Leo’s surprising vulnerability beneath his polished producer exterior made their chemistry feel genuine and sweet, especially as they find themselves drawn together in ways neither expected.

I loved how the narrative made me feel both excited for what could happen and comforted by the sense of community that surrounds Aimee, from quirky friends to loving family moments that made the farm almost another character in its own right.

At times the pacing felt brisk, with romantic feelings developing quickly and a few plot angles that could have used deeper exploration, but the overall tone stayed warm, uplifting and satisfying without ever leaning into cynicism or unnecessary drama.

Because of these, I'll rate it 2 out of 5 stars.

I liked the story overall. I liked the characters and the story line. The one thing that I think fell a little flat for me was that it is marketed as a RomCom and it didn’t really have that vibe for me. I loved the story I just wish their had been more humor in it to fit the marketing. I would love to read more about the characters in this book. So overall, I did like this book and would recommend it to others.

I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.

Mediocre plot, good characters

I often rate books with 5 stars if I enjoyed them. I did enjoy this book, but I thought the plot could use some tweaking. It was almost there. I just kept feeling like some things were missing. It’s not a terrible book by any means, I just think it could use some refining. With a few edits I think I could have loved this book.

I thought there was a lot going on, so because there were so many angles there wasn’t as much depth to the story. The characters were still lovable, and you could tell they had chemistry. The characters were the issue for me, They were in love pretty fast, and the development of their feelings was lacking, so it was more about the plot. I kept wondering why there was so much jumping around.

It some scenes were cut and some were more in depth and showed more development, I think this could have been a 5 star read.

As I was reading this book, I just kept thinking how improbable it all was. They were talking about this southern town like it's LA with all the paparazzi and bad press from a single innocuous date. I wish the author had laid the groundwork for Wilmington as a surprising film hub, as explained in the author's notes at the end. It would have been more believable for me. Wilmington felt like it was a small town, and I'm not familiar enough with the south to know any better. I also felt like there was too much emphasis on the production of this multi episode series, and not enough on the relationship development.

I had a free copy of this book, but this is my voluntary and honest opinion. Aimee Lawrence is working as a bartender while she attends acting school and waits for an audition. When Junior Producer Leo comes into the bar and offers her the job of a lifetime. Unfortunately, her association with Leo comes to the attention of the paparazzi and causes problems all around. Trouble is, Leo doesn’t want to give up his association with her. A touching story about life as an actress, with lots of interesting characters.

Getting the Big Break

Leo is producing a possible new show. Aimee and Maeve are waiting for their big break into show business. The ensuing break brings more trouble than it's worth. Being a country girl myself, and one whose family owned a bar that I tended, I could relate to some of this story. It's an interesting read on parts of show business and parts of farm life. Navigating relationships also makes an entertaining read. Enjoyed the ending and epilog.

A fun story about aspiring for something and finding out it's not always what you really want. Two determined roommates pursue their dreams of becoming actors when a once-in-a-lifetime comes along. The main characters are very likeable and have good values, following rules instead of their hearts. That doesn't always work out to their advantage...
Fun plot, abundant characters to love or hate, and a warm feeling when it's finished. Delightful!

Just how easy is it to become an actress on a brand-new show?

Auditioning for a part in a new TV show becomes a top-of-the-list thing for Aimee and Maeve. Will they both be cast? Who gets the most important spot? Is the leading man a pushover or an arrogant lady’s man?
Fast read with a setting in Wilmington, NC – one of my favorite places.

Tables Turned

Aimee and Leo are an unlikely pair but they have a cute story. Leo is a Jr Producer for television programming. He walks into a bar where Aimee is the bartender. She is the daughter of a farmer. He is from L. A. She is from a one stoplight farming community. Can these two mismatched people find a life together?

Aimee is tending Bar when Leo comes in and orders a drink. What a good looking guy. Soon she discovers he is the producer of the movie they are making in town.

This may be this most boring book I read this year. The story is meh, the characters are boring and even the setting is mediocre. It’s not badly written or anything, it just has absolutely zero interesting aspects for me…

Awesome book

This is a great book with great characters. This couple went through much frustration to be together, but in the end they got their amazing happy ever after together and it's beautiful. I loved each word in this book. You will too.

Wanna-be actress in Wilmington meets the producer of a new show. Romance ensues. The conflict is flimsy, but the characters get along well and the chaste love scenes are sweet.

Shows Promise

The story needs more development. I needed to get to know the characters more. I just never became invested. Pass
