Eighteen-year-old Mahi Sharma has no idea what the world was like before Lucifer slew the angels and laid waste to humankind. For two years she’s been feeding demons her pain and fear in a human containment prison. But, Mahi has a precious secret. One that, to save the life of a friend, she must reveal against her wishes. Now, with her ability exposed, Mahi’s only option is to escape before the demons can take her to the dark king himself.
Life beyond the prison is a wasteland inhabited by flesh-eating creatures. Once she’s free, Mahi spends every moment struggling to survive. When Kavon, a half-angel, half-demon hybrid, rescues her, they discover a supernatural bond linking them, but he isn’t the only one. Isra, a prince of Hell, relentlessly plagues Mahi’s consciousness, claiming to know what she is. Isra has a plan of his own, and he will stop at nothing to see Mahi seated on Hell’s throne.
When demons capture Kavon, Mahi discovers Lucifer is transforming humans into an army of abominations to find her. It’s no longer only her life at stake, and Mahi has no choice but to ally with the devious Isra and head to Morningstar city. They must save Kavon and stop Lucifer before Mahi becomes another tool in his dark games.
Hi, I'm Jasmine! I am a Canadian author who loves coffee and singing my heart out. I spend most of my time playing video games with my family, creating funny videos, and watching superhero movies. Anything but writing.
Three years ago, this was the very first book I ever read in English — and it completely changed my reading journey. Because of this story, I discovered my love for the romantasy genre, and since then I’ve read so many amazing books in English.
I’m not a literary expert 😀 but I can honestly say that I absolutely loved this book. It has stayed with me all this time. Every now and then I remember it, and when I do, I find myself searching through all the author’s platforms, hoping to see news about a second book.
Thank you to the author for creating such a powerful and unforgettable story for me. It truly means so much, and I sincerely hope we’ll get to read the sequel one day 🖤
Disclaimer: I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
To be perfectly honest, it took me two attempts to finish the book. I got about halfway through on my first time around, but just didn't really manage to get into it (of course it ended up being right before the story picked up pace again xD). Having the second time, so I knew more about the world, did help though. The book moves at a very fast pace while managing to have scenes that don't necessarily need to be there. There's not much time spent on grand exposition, rather sprinkling it in from time to time from the perspective of someone who knows far too little about the world she lives in, so there's a good explanation for giving the reader some explanations.
The main issue I had was truly with the pacing. On one hand important plot points are resolved within just a few pages that would be multiple long chapters in other books and I'd have loved to spend more time with those moments, but at the same time when the book then did slow down for a bit, I didn't quite manage to pick it back up again, so I'd recommend it as a quick read rather than taking your time with it, as otherwise the pacing will lose you.
On the flipside where the book shines are the characters. All of them are brutally flawed in a reflection of their world really and you never quite know their next move. I also loved the interactions between the main trio and the twists and turns of their relationships to each other. Sure, some of it will break your heart, but with a setting like this, what did you expect? ;) Speaking of, the worldbuilding is also fun! There are still a few open questions by the end of the book, especially when it comes to the antagonist's choices, which led to the world having a few open questions as well, but I'm sure Sidhu will bring forth answers in the followup(s)!
Overall it's a debut novel with flaws acceptable for being a debut (writing is hard y'all!), but I'm sure Sidhu will only improve from here with the sequel(s) to this story and more! :)
Since ARCs have gone out, I've decided to place my review. I wrote this book! I cannot believe it. It took me four years to write this novel and I am so happy that it is finally out in the world!
I wrote this story as a book that I would want to read. So that is why I am giving it 5 stars. Because I love it completely with all of my heart. I adore all the characters, the world, and the plot.
I really hope that you all enjoy this book as much as I enjoyed writing it :)
⭐️⭐️⭐️.75 I enjoyed this read. Enough that I chewed through it relatively quickly. The effort and detail put into the demons was 👌🏻superb.
But I feel like for the majority of the book we were just walking in circles, repeating the same thing over and over, and then right at the end when things get really interesting... it flew by too quickly.
It’s taken me a long time to write my review because I’m not sure how to go about it.
I will be honest, I DNF’d at 150 pages. There were some inconsistencies such as Mahi saying Laurel was her only friend but later saying she didn’t want the demon to find her other friends…
I did however find the concept super interesting and maybe in the future I will try again with this book.
Normally if I DNF a book I would rate it 1 star but seeing as this is a debut novel, I wanted to be kinder since the author worked so hard to write this book.

*FIVE STARS*
When I first saw this book being advertised on TikTok, talking about a story taking place after Lucifer slew all the angels in a post apocalyptic world, where demons are essentially the rulers and humans are to feed them their pain and fears in a containment prison, I was hyped for its release. Did I also mention there’s a love triangle with a half-angel, half-devil hybrid, and a prince of hell?!
The premise and overall story itself was probably one of the most intriguing and unique plots I have seen in a while, especially for a debut fantasy/dystopian book, and it really blew me away considering this is a debut novel. I also found it really easy to read as it wasn’t going into paragraphs and paragraphs of detail, as other books of this genre might do, and it still gave enough information to really understand the world.
It’s told in first person through the perspective of the main character, Mahi Sharma, who has been kept in a human containment prison where she and other humans are meant to feed demons with their pain and fear. But unbeknownst to the demons, Mahi possesses a secret, in which use in order to save one of her best friends, who is also contained in the prison, she has reveal it and essentially because of revealing her secret Mahi is forced to escape to avoid being captured by the demons who want to take her to the dark king, Lucifer. However the world outside of the prison isn’t any nicer or friendlier, instead it is a wasteland full of flesh-eating creatures.
Now if I’m totally honest, I’ve never really been a fan of love-triangles because it’s always been really obvious to me which one of them is going to end up with the main-character, however in this book that is not the case. The two love-interests in this book are Kavon, and Isra. Kavon is a half-demon, and half-angel hybrid, who rescues Mahi. By rescuing her, they discovers that the two of them have a supernatural bond, but Kavon is not the only one with this bond, because Isra also has one. Unlike Kavon, Isra is a prince of hell who constantly and relentlessly plagues Mahi’s mind, and has his own agenda for Mahi which is to put her upon Hell’s throne.
What I really liked about the love-triangle was that I felt like both Kavon, and Isra had a fair share of the spotlight and they both, as well as Mahi, had character depth to them. They all had their own ideas, plans, and personalities that really differed from each other and brought something interesting and new to the table. Overall it made it really hard to choose which one you were rooting for, between Kavon and Isra.
Despite the romance mainly being in the first half of the book, it was excellently written. There was tension between the characters, and there was banter, which is really all I want in a romance. Even if romance isn’t your thing, it is just a sub-plot, so there is great world building to look forward to, as well as learning about different demons and creatures that are shown throughout the story, and despite learning so much about the world in this book, it still left a lot of room for the second book in the series, to be delved into. There were also some twist and turns that I was not expecting, which really made it hard to put down it down.
I highly recommend this book to people who like dark fantasy with demons and creatures in them, as well as people who likes post-apocalyptic worlds.
This was one of my favourite books this year, if not all time, and I’m highly anticipating the sequel.
This book made me forget I was reading. 5-star read for sure!
“The World of Lost Souls” by Jasmine Sidhu is a fantasy novel describing the life of Mahi, a powerful female character, in a world of demons and other flesh-eating creatures from Hell. From her life before containment to her life next to Prince of Hell Israkiel and half demon, half angel hybrid Kavon, she’s determined to kill the fallen Archangel, Lucifer.
This novel is undoubtedly one of my favourite reads of the year; the characters are relatable, fun and everyone has a personality that suits their title. Throughout the book, Mahi grows as a person and develops her powers but I especially liked how she always seemed honest; by this, I mean that her thoughts were very well described alongside the situations she was in!
The plot in this book is incredible! The plot twists come one after the other, making this book a page-turner. I could NOT put it down! The twists and turns in the book were so unexpected that sometimes I had to put the book down and lap around my room. If I were to be completely honest, there is not one negative thing that comes to mind.
This book is a YA fantasy suitable for ages 13+, as some parts can be deemed scary for younger audiences. The descriptions are very well written, and as the story developed, I had a film playing in my mind. I recommend this novel to people who wish to be put at the edge of their seats until the very last page and who love a well-written plot.
In conclusion, “The World of Lost Souls” is definitely one of my favourite reads so far and definitely deserves 5/5 stars. I definitely will be reading volume two when it comes out!!
I had the pleasure of receiving an ARC of this book in exchange for a honest review.
The story is told from the first point of view of Mahi and it's well written. It's fast paced, and although the romance was a bit more in the first half of the book for my taste, the romantic tension was there (which i absolutely loved) and it was fun to read the banter between the main characters. In books usually when there are three main character you always know that one of them, and which one, is the "main" love interest and the one that never had a chance. This is literally the first book i've read that was actually different on that front!
The characters have a depth to them, and I also loved the world building! The creatures shown are rather interesting, and it was always fun to read about the demons around. It has notes of The Mortal Instruments partly, in my opinion.
As a person that doesn't like too much (at least obvious) foreshadowing, i have to say that there ARE plot twists that you actually never see coming. The first book is a good introduction for this world, and i have no doubt it's only gonna get better from here on out. Overall i enjoyed it, and i really can't wait for book 2!
As someone who has never been a big fan of the angels/demons fantasy subgenre, I LOVED THIS BOOK! The book includes a strong female lead coming into her powers in a world loosely based on Christian mythology. The book presents a non-traditional and unique view of angels and demons. Mahi is a likable and relatable main character, and each important side character is well developed. The plot was excellent and fast paced. I found the writing style to be simple and straightforward, with little room for confusion or misinterpretation. Overall, the book was a quick, enjoyable read.
I loved the storyline and characters. The story line is unique, with some parts reminding me of The Host by Stephenie Myers. But the characters and how they related to one another with the overall plot is something I’ve never read before. I also loved that the main character was a poc. That is something that’s truly missing from fantasy novels. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves fantasy and young adults. I give this book a rating of 5 for reasons above and because it deserves more attention!
Greatest book I’ve ever read, storyline masterfully crafted, every moment is immersive and captivating and nothing short of amazing. Do yourself a favour and buy this book!
