John, mourning his mother’s death, runs away from home, leaving behind his little sister to deal with their father on her own. It isn’t until a life-changing event happens that Jack realizes he’s been exhibiting his own father’s ways towards John and John has a conversation that changes his perspective on his father. Spectacular. The Drinks Between Us tackles feelings and experiences that a lot of people can relate to with father figures, in some way or fashion. I stayed hooked and finished the short story in one sitting. Vincent did a spectacular job with dialogue and the plot of a short, yet meaningful story.

I read this book as a beta reader and found the book to be an incredibly powerful story about alcoholism, abuse and the opportunity to make amends.

A page-turner of a short story! Follow the intricacies of John and Jack's father-son relationship, and everything that causes them to push and pull away from each other. Find comfort in knowing that, sometimes, while life may throw curveballs your way, there is a chance to start over from your mistakes.
