After a thousand years in space, the Eden colonists have finally found a world to call their own—if they can survive it.
With one side constantly drenched in light, the colonists’ new world seems like their best option to begin again, and most don’t question what happened to its previous inhabitants. A thousand years of searching has made them impatient to start fresh, but theirs isn’t the first attempt to colonize this world, and they aren’t alone.
To celebrate their new beginning, the Prem’yera decree a bonding between Wylie, the lowest-caste girl, and their son, Finn. On the eve of their bonding, Wylie discovers a dragon and unwittingly unleashes a killer—or so it would seem.
Exiled to the dark side of the world, Wylie is left to die—a reality Finn refuses to accept. Surrounded by enemies hiding among friends, Finn is no longer sure who he can trust, or who should be saved first—Wylie, his people, or himself.
Ali Archer is the USA Today bestselling author of young adult fantasy and science fiction, including the Desolation series and the Minnie Kim: Vampire Girl series. Ali's always loved science fiction and fantasy, as the first books she read were by such greats as Isaac Asimov, Ray Bradbury, and Lloyd Alexander. But when she discovered *Dragonriders of Pern* by Anne McCaffrey, which was such a perfect blend of fantasy and science fiction, her own imagination was set aflame. At eleven, Ali met Ms. McCaffrey in one of the single most illuminating moments of her life. When she told the eminent writer she wanted to be an author when she grew up, Ms. McCaffrey said, “Never let anything stand in the way of your dreams.” Ali’s been following that advice ever since.
Ali’s a Canadian expat living in Utah with her husband, twin sons, two adorable yorkies, and an ancient cat who rules them all.
Dystopian sci-fi/fantasy, this was all the great genres together. There are generational space ships, aliens, dragons, AI/androids, war and a slow, clean romance. What more could a person ask for? It's all put together well and made for a great read. The world building was detailed and the characters were mostly personable and showed growth.

When I was a kid, I was in love with dragons and sci-fi. This book has both! When you first encounter Wylie, you can't help but love her. She's kind, genuine, but fiery and a fighter for the good of everyone. Finn is sweet, kind, and a born leader. Birch is adventurous and bull-headed, but you can't help but adore his innocent approach to life in their new home. I love this book. I'm actually on my second read of it. I would recommend this to anyone. It's a clean romance, great for teens and adults. It's not boring or slow and your can't help but stay up reading it. If you've read Blood Crown, it takes place in the same universe, but you definitely don't need to have read it first. Blood Crown introduced me to Ali Archer, and I was ecstatic to read more in this universe! I can't recommend this book enough. Thanks for the incredible world you've built!
For a century, humans have been traveling in space to find a new home. They finally find a home to find it abandoned, or so they thought. The book mixes the fantasy of dragons with the technology of science fiction. The book itself focuses on Wylie and Finn. Two teens who are from different castes and are lovers. Through hardships, Wylie encounters friends and foes while trying to make sense of the new planet and her new roles. There are plot twists you don't see coming and the emotions you feel while reading are strong. You actually care about the characters and grow to love and hate the friends and foes in the book. Slightly political in the caste system but nothing more beyond that. It's a clean romance adventure novel that you can't put down.
After wandering in space for a thousand years, finding a habitable planet seemed like a dream come true. It doesn't take long to discover that friends are foes, and what we might think would be enemies are actually allies!
A clean YA novel set in space with dragons, mysterious aliens, new worlds...
A story with characters who grow into their own with realistic doubts, love, family, fighting, and forgiveness...
A series that doesn't leave you hanging, but has you looking forward to the next book.
What more could you want?
Ali Archer writes across a variety of genres, and I love all of them. Highly recommend!
This book was born from a lifelong love of fantasy worlds and dragons, specifically Ann McCaffrey's Dragonriders of Pern books. It was definitely a labor of love, and I hope you enjoy reading it as much as I enjoyed writing it!
I abostly loved the book. It's different from her other ones for sure. But I couldn't put it down at all. 5 star read and most likely gonna reread it again this year. Highly recommend it to. ❤️ Can't wait to see what more might come from this book. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
I was given a copy and asked to review by the author.
I really liked this book. It’s been a long time since I’ve had a stay-up-late-to-read kind of book, and this one inspired multiple delayed bedtimes.
Archer combines AI, space colonization, dragons and dragon riding, alien contact, action, coming-of-age, romance, a deadly disease, and multiple villains and conflicts into one story line. It’s a whole lot of stuff, but Archer does it in a believable way, and it adds a lot of intrigue to the story. It’s a good read with likeable, balanced characters. My favorite is Wylie, who is intelligent and curious and loves everyone and has a passion for life.
The scientific aspects and world building felt well developed and believable, and don’t get in the way of plot development. Archer made me want MORE details, which rarely happens.
The romance was not the center of the story line. Hooray! At the beginning it felt a little contrived, simply because we jump into a long time friendship with romantic feelings. I really believe Finn’s love for Wiley, but have a harder time the other direction? Maybe that’s just me.
There are a few readability issues I feel should be mentioned. At the beginning, there’s a time skip that I had a hard time orienting myself after. New conditions and new vocabulary are rapidly introduced, but some patience pays off after about 10-20 pages. Also, characters sometimes speak telepathically, which is indicated by italics. Sometimes portions aren’t italicized and should be or vice versa. I could sort out what it was supposed to be, but it did cause a break in the reading experience.
All in all, I loved reading this book and look forward to subsequent additions!
This was a very interesting book. The lack of a love triangle - only one, healthy romantic relationship - was greatly appreciated. It was also extremely nice to have a book without strong language. I thought the pacing was refreshingly unconventional while still having momentum, and all the plot points wove together well. I thought the characters felt realistic. I would mention that it is important not to read too fast, or else things that would otherwise be clear feel confusing. I enjoyed the interesting world-building, the ending felt satisfying - this was a beautiful book.
I really enjoyed Dragon Protocol. I normally skim books and bore easily, but this was a story where I wanted to relish every word. Perfect pacing and the storyline is kept interesting with the shifting POV from Wylie to Finn. The world development is done well, and Archer doesn't allow herself to go so deep into the minutiae of the world building that it bogs down the narrative. Perfect blending of a fascinating setting, great action, sweet love story, and well-drawn characters. This is one you won't want to miss and I can't wait for the next book in this series!
this was a great start to the Eden Project series, it had everything that I was hoping for from the cover. Ali Archer has a great way of creating worlds that you want to read about. I enjoyed every second of reading this and am glad I read it.

This is such a fabulous combination of fantasy and sci-fi! It grabbed me right from the beginning. Never have I had such a great connection with the characters in a book so quickly. It kept me engrossed from beginning to end. Dragon Protocol makes me want to jump right into book 2.
An intriguing book that will keep you wanting to know more about the characters. The people have finally found a place to call home but there’s danger out there. How will they manage. Loved it.
I loved this story. It's a little bit science fiction, with space flight and android-type "people." There's action and mystery with crazy planetfall and mysterious secrets left by those who lived there first. There's the clash of politics and religion between the ruling class, the working class, and *gasp!* rebels. But best of all, there is magic and dragons. DRAGONS! That talk. My favorite.
The characters were strong and unique. The plot was a little winding at one point but DEFINITELY worth the trip. I love the world Ali has created and I can't wait to revisit it.
There's some violence but not gore. There's mild kissing. I don't remember any swear words, but if there were some they were mild.
I give this book 5 stars. Recommended to older teens and adults.
I highly recommend this book!! It is the first in a new series and it will take you on an emotional roller coaster. The characters have been traveling in space for a very long time looking for a planet to call home, once they find a planet that meets all of their requirements they quickly find out everything is not as it seemed. There are multiple twists and turns throughout the journey that will keep the reader on their toes. I look forward to seeing where the journey takes these characters next time. Well done by author Ali Archer!
Who doesn't love, space ships, robots, aliens and dragons. I love how Sci-Fi meets fantasy in this story. Only is it fantasy when the dragons are an alien race? Either way I loved the characters and the world building. There is mystery and intrigue, (who really is the bad guy), mild romance (I would like to see more romance), and even a plague (during these times we can relate!). So much going on and a couple of surprises. Such a great read and I can't wait to see what happens next!
