I received this police procedural 'series' novel at a preorder price of $.99 courtesy of the author. Thanks for sharing your hard work with me. I have read Sarah Brown and the Family Secret of my own volition, and this review reflects my honest opinion of this work. I am pleased to recommend Audrey Walker to friends and family, She writes excellent tales placed in areas of the country that we love.
I prefer to binge my stories, so it was a long wait for this book to arrive completed. It was, however, well worth the wait. Taking place in the mountains of Colorado, we have a well-disguised mystery to solve, and Sarah is an independent woman who knows her own mind, which is a good thing in this part of the series. pub date August 2, 2022 Reviewed on November 6, 2022, at Goodreads, AmazonSmile, Barnes&Noble, and BookBub.

It'll keep you on the edge of your seat - with satisfaction guaranteed!
My big complaint about Audrey Walker is it seems she doesn’t have the capacity to write a long story. Or should I saw that she can but slices it up into small episodes so the reader buys three books instead of one?
Anyway, it doesn’t really matter that I think the stories are far too short, oops sorry it’s the books that are too short, as the books are reasonably priced for their shortness and overall I doubt the reader is being overcharged and I suppose it gives readers the option to drop out without buying the whole series of books.
This is the second episode in the ongoing story and yes there are more after this. This book continues following Sarah after an unknown woman’s body and her aunts body were dumped on her property a few weeks apart. At the end of the last episode Sarah’s partner, William, her Captain and the ME are all arrested for their involvement in the murders of the two women.
In reality I don’t think that much progress is actually made in this episode but it did keep me engaged and the tension of Sarah bring next on the death list kept my attention.
I have already bought book three so will read it with as much enthusiasm as this and the previous books. The hook is there and I’m caught on it. I suspect you will be too.
Wow! The second episode of the Sarah Brown novella series is an edge of your seat, page turner! With Sarah trying to get a confession and information from her former partner, Will she plays to his weakness. When he tells her he will give her the information she wants if she gets him protection for his family, she leaves the interrogation room to tell her boss. When she returns to Will in the room, she finds him dead with a note tucked under his body...which she pockets. This starts a series of events that take her to information on her parents', brother's and aunt's deaths. But how? Why? Why did some very powerful people wanted to silence them? And now Sarah's life is in danger. Can she get to the bottom of what is happening and clear her name since she becomes suspect number one in the eyes of the public for the murder of her former partner. And how was he murdered in the locked room if she didn't have a hand in it. So many questions, can Sarah get to the bottom of all this, clear her name and get some answers? This is a page turning wonderful episode in the serial of Sarah Brown that you just can't put down and of course you want more!
Oh My Goodness! What a spectacular episode! I say episode, because it will be continued in the next book. So much happened in this book. First of all, one of the bad guys dies while alone in an interrogation room. Secondly, the FBI takes over and takes the remaining bad guys into their custody. Thirdly, Sarah receives two separate files from her friend, and the second file has awful proof that her dead family members were part of a "Brotherhood" that killed people. This Brotherhood are the people who killed her family members. Fourth, because of her trying to find answers about the dead woman and her dead aunt that was killed and dropped off in front of Sarah's cabin, these people are now trying to kill her. Who can Sarah trust? She doesn't tell the lieutenant about the second file because she doesn't want to shame her family name. Plus, the dead prisoner's wife wants to sue the police department for $20 million dollars. Someone wants Sarah dead. Can she discover who wants her dead before somebody else gets killed? I gave this episode 5 stars and will read Book 3 next.
Cop. Trusted friend. Murderer. Detective Sarah Brown is already crushed when she discovers her long-time partner William is tied to a string of deaths. Things go from bad to worse when he dies in interrogation, under Sarah's watch. And he's only the latest in a string of murders that dance around her like marionettes. The only clue William leaves behind is a cryptic note, directed to Sarah. What kind of chilling technology can take out a suspect while in police custody? Whatever it is, Sarah's running out of time...
This is a wonderful addition to this thrilling series! Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building that adds so much to the story. Such a thrilling read that I couldn't put it down. Can't wait to read more of these. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
I received an ARC and I am voluntarily leaving an honest review.
The story continues where Sarah's partner William, the Police Captain and the medical examiner have all been arrested. Sarah has been interviewing William for several days and has gotten nowhere. William finally says that he will talk if he gets a deal. Meanwhile, the Lt. has been trying to get information from the Capt., but with no luck. The Capt. wants his lawyer. Sarah brings the request for a deal to offer William. The D.A. begrundgingly agrees. A deal is first offered to the Capt., but he says no and wants his lawyer. Sarah brings the deal to William and he wants to make sure that his family will be protected. As Sarah is finally getting William to talk, the phone in the interrogation room rings and Sarah steps out. While she is gone, William is killed.
Sarah was the last one to see William alive so she is suspected of killing him. With everything going on, Sarah has been loking as a different person when leaving and returning to her home. She receives another file and begins to learn more about the Brotherhood and the role her family played. Other events happen as she looks for William's killer.
The story continues and once it ends, you wait impatiently for the next book in the series.
Sarah no longer feels she can trust anyone not even those she works with. Her partner, the captain, and medical examiner are all in for questioning no one is talking. On top of that she keeps getting information on her own family and things she never knew growing up. Why they really are killed. She gets some answers in the first file of where to start a second file has even more. When William is killed making it look like she could have done it things get more dangerous. He had written her a note before anyone else sees it she puts it in her pocket. In it he tells her to be careful she has no idea how deep in her aunt and father were in the organization. Plus her aunt had something they want. With no one to trust how will she save herself and others from the Brotherhood? I received a free copy as well as buying one for a honest review. Can’t wait for the next in the series
Audrey Walker writes gripping thrillers, and this one offers more of the same. Detective Sarah has discovered that her partner William is actually involved in a number of the deaths that they have been investigating. Whilst in police custody William himself is murdered, but how, and who did it? To make things worse someone is winding up the people in the area and convincing them that Sarah is to blame for the death, so the public are calling for her head...
This is a very enjoyable book, but some of the police procedures seem not to match up to those we have come to expect from watching and reading other crime fiction. As a result it feels a little unreal in places and therefore requires some extra 'suspension of disbelief' to get the most out of it, hence the four stars instead of the full five stars.
In Depth Who Did What?... This was a great second part to the killing spree that has totally encompassed Sarah. This being that one person who died was her beloved Aunt, the other was a woman that she did not know, but who had been found on her vacation property the very first night of being there! Sarah being an actual detective, is put on the spot with this, and then starts with her partner being on the hot seat for more murders, even though he says he did not kill them, to please protect his family. So, they find that they have a mole in the police department... and the story goes on and very deep after that, with Sarah being the one on the hot seat that everyone thinks did another killing! This was a very good story continuation! This story could be read by itself, but I think alot of the storyline would be not understood. Thank you Audrey Walker!
This novella is full of non-stop tension and actions surrounding Detective Sarah Brown and her immediate co-workers and family. Done in the terse, no frills style of writing readers have come to expect from author Audrey Walker, it leaves the reader breathless as events continue to accelerate through the storyline. I highly recommend reading the first in this series Sara Brown and the Cabin, as it gives a solid background for this second in the series. I received an ARC, and this is my honest review of this novelette.
Sarah Brown & the Family Secret is Audrey Walker's 2nd book in the series & wow it will certainly grab you right from the start. Sarah & her Lieutenant, Noah Fields, have arrested suspected killers, Detective William Dougan, Sarah's ex partner who was a trusted friend, or so she thought, but is he a murderer?! Along with their Captain & the medical examiner. All are being questioned for the murder of two women, one being Sarah's aunt, both found at Sarah's holiday cabin that she inherited from her parents on their & her brothers deaths. Sarah tries to get a deal & protection for Wills family so that he will talk, but it's to late & he is found dead in the interrogation room just after she leaves the room to answer a call! But she finds a cryptic warning note from him, that she tells no one about. Unfortunately as Sarah was the last with him she is suspected of killing him, but just how did he die? is a form of technology involved? Sarah starts to discover that her family, who died years before, were involved in a secret society, the Brotherhood and now her Aunt is dead as well, it seems she knew about it as well. And whilst at her Aunt's home Sarah finds a key but then she hears others entering, so she takes the key home. She then returns home one day & she finds her house ransacked & on checking finds that the key has been taken. What is so important about this key? Sarah must discover who is on her side, just who can she trust. Her paranoia makes her wonder if she is being followed & is her life now at risk. Where will the evidence/files on the memory stick from Amanda lead her? And who can she trust to share it with, or tell no one & try to unravel it herself. This book will keep you guessing with every new page full of twists & turns. I couldn't put it down till I had finished it. Now to wait for the next installment.

Sarah Brown and the Family Secret: A totally gripping female detective thriller Novella packed with mystery and suspense (Sarah Brown Series Book 2) by Audrey Walker is an awesome story that I have loved reading. This is book number two in this awesome series and I can not wait to read the rest. I highly recommend this story to everyone who loves reading mysteries and suspense stories.
I read a complimentary Advanced Reader Copy of this book & am voluntarily leaving an honest and unbiased review.
The second book of this series was definitely better than the first. More information is gathered about the secret organization and Sarah is being accused of killing her partner even though he was part of the secret organization. Sarah’s life is in danger and dark secrets are being revealed about her family and their past involvements. Who can she trust at this point??
When I read this book I thought it was the first book in a new series. I thought this because it U.N.was so inshort and kind of watered down, not much detail in the book. I was wrong, it is the second book in the series, I will read another of her books, because her other series was ok. If the next book in this series is like the one that I read, it will be the last of the series that I will read.
Characters in the thrillers by Audrey Walker are rarely, if ever, living the American Dream. Her police procedurals feature dirty cops, broken families and a descent into the darkest corners of society today. Now, Sarah Brown, doesn't know who she can trust. The author keeps one guessing as the body count builds.
Sarah Brown comes from an unusual family, as you will find out from reading this book. I did not expect the ending, so be ready to be surprised. I recommend this Sarah Brown series. Just remember, being a series it should be read in order, from number 1. This is the second book. A short, enjoyable read.
I loved this book and I felt sorry for Sarah being accused of murdering her partner. It was bad enough that she didn't know William as well as she thought and now, she had evidence of her family's dark secret that she dare not her her temporary boss know as the captain, the medical examiner, and her now dead ex-partner were part of some secret organization.
The second book in the Sarah Brown series, in which we learn more about Sarah herself and her family. It is a gripping story with a lot of questions to answer for Sarah. The plot is very well written, with a lot of suspense, drama and action.
A review copy of this book was sent to me by the author. All of the above opinions are my own.
Unfortunately I have read and reviewed the last in this series but curious I wanted to know the back story that lead to the end, I wasn't disappointed "The Family Secret" is a great lead into the last book OMG it is so good the story flows the truth is heartbreaking for Sarah but she battles on. I highly recommend this series
Sarah is devastated by the betrayal of her partner, William Dougan and whilst questioning him he tries to warn her but gets killed. What is the secret that is getting people close to her killed? Whom can she trust? Another gripping thriller by Audrey Walker which will have you asking for more.
This second book continues the suspense and raises more questions for Sarah. The twists keep on getting more complicated and intriguing. I wished that it was longer, and not a novella.
With senior police officers under arrest for numerous horrendous crimes, Sarah is trying to find the answers for their actions and the ties to her family. I received this book as an arc reader and am happy to recommend it.
Okay, now I want to keep reading. These are only short stories, but I am good with that as long as they keep coming. Audrey Walker is an excellent writer and writes the crime thrillers I Love to read!
Detective Sarah Brown has her former partner, the medical examiner and the former captain in custody. She is questioning her former partner and leaves the room. When she returns he is dead. The Brotherhood is after Sarah. A very suspenseful page turner.
How can anyone keep a promise they knew nothing about? Sarah has broken the promise made by her father, and her life is now in danger. I fear she has also fallen for a ruse set up by The Brotherhood, and now has something in her possession that will further implicate her in William's death.
Book 2 explains a great deal about Sarah’s family. It finds her in a more serious situation as the story about The Brotherhood continues. And bringing down the criminal enterprise seems very challenging. Even staying alive is going to be a real challenge.
Book 2 delivers a stunning twist that will keep you hooked. The author's skill and professionalism shine through every page. I couldn't put it down until I finished it. I received this arc for free and I wanted to leave an honest review.
