“Sooo,” Jimmi says over the video chat, “Nico’s worried about Negatia, but he won’t let you tell CENTURY or any other Hall leader, and instead, he’s making you graduate and go to work for her so you can spy on her.” “Yeah, that’s pretty much it,” I say, waiting for her accent to start showing. You can always tell when she’s mad by the accent—it’s actually pretty helpful, honestly, because it gives me a heads up. “Yeah, okay,” she says. “Do you want me to come with you? I was thinking of putting in for graduation soon, as well.” I blink. “You’re not mad?” “Why would I be mad? I mean, sooner or later I’m going to be in her position, right? I figure I’d rather have Nico nosing around inconspicuously rather than having all of the Hall leaders jumping my back. It’s not like he’s going to out her to the entire world, and he picked the right guy to do it. Besides, you should have graduated MONTHS ago.”

Even better

Better action and characterization than most of books in this fine squeaky clean series. One definition of young adult series is teenager as main character, check. However children, adults, and senior superheroes are also involved. If you know series, you can guess main character is Vinnie, cook and fire powered hero.

popcorn for the soul

It’s light hearted while dealing with complex relationships in an understandable manner. It gives you glimpses into the private development and lives of super heroes and villains.

Dry

Vinny is a dry and detached narrator, which sets the tone of this volume. The plot picks up almost immediately after the previous volume, but readers don't need to have read it.

R.J.Ross has been my comfort Author for many many years, and it becomes obvious to me again and again why. This book has once again show me what I love about her writing. I love the dry humor, the feeling of being dragged into it, I love the characters and of course, one thing that makes every book better, I love skystep.

Spoilers ahead

Negatia is a hall leader we were introduced to pretty earl considering how long this series is by now, and back then we were told she can just enhance or negate abilities. But now that we know her better, now that we have seen all we have seen, we know just how mch more powerful she is. He ability to reflect things is terrifying, really i think she might be one of the strongest, most dangerous characters in the series, powers and even physical attacks would be useless against her, power blockers too, Negatia is a monster in the best possible way.

I love Vinny, alright? Loved the man since his first book, love him still. Of course his only concern about leaving is "but my kitchen...". Well, not his only one, there is also the thing with the relationship. And I think that was written very well, I think it was great that Vinny actually doubted himself, wondered if he was doing everything right because he has no experience, because that is exactly what teens do, they doubt themselves because, well, we have no experience, let's be real. It was also nice to see his cool and collected thing drop for a moment, even if him going into shock wasn't good. And the constant reminders of the zoo, the boxes, that was good. I was honestly waiting for Vinny to really break down since he talked about being trapped for his job and riddle not wanting to do that and such.

Ho'pa is adorable and I will protect the tiny alien with my life.

Riddle is a simp and a shameless flirt and honestly? Good for him. He is also frighteningly powerful.
