'You should release me, if not for simple decency, then because Peter will rescue me either way.’
Hook chuckled darkly. ‘I hope he will try.’
When Wendy is taken captive by the infamous Captain Hook and kept prisoner aboard his ship, there is little she can do but wait. The seas surrounding Neverland teem with danger and her only hope for liberation seems to be if Peter Pan flies to her rescue. But Wendy is not the sort of girl to remain idle long. After she wins the freedom to roam the ship at will, she turns her attention to the enigmatic pirate captain, of which she has heard so much and knows so little. With his dark eyes and flashing wits, it is not always easy to tell when Hook is being sincere and when he is manipulating her. But what it is about him that keeps drawing her in? Is there more to this villain than she first believed? And does she really know her handsome girlhood fantasy, that boy who will never grow up, as well as she thinks she does?
Please this title was formerly published under pen name Lorelei Johnson.
Well, it was better than I expected. Still, there’s a lot of telling but little showing, and I wish this had been longer. It could have been a great book, but it lacks development.
Give me alllll the retellings where Pan's outed as the fuckboy I've always known him to be, and Hook the alpha-mallow daddy of all the high seas. [image error]
But... dirtier, if you're going to make it dirty? I really liked this, for the above mentioned reason and because it's superbly written, but I felt like Hailey Jade was maybe a little afraid to really lean into the filth, to use the "impolite" terms, to just bloody go for it. And that ultimately made Wendy and Hook's chemistry a little less believable for me. But only slightly. Otherwise, all I really want is more.
I always had beef with Peter Pan’s character as a child growing up and hated his misogynistic and narcissistic attitudes so was very nervous about reading any Peter Pan retellings, but this one was so much better than I had expected.
I loved that we did not follow a romance between Wendy and Peter as the end goal for the book, but rather, a darker, enemies-to-lovers between Wendy and Hook. If you know me at all, you know I LOVE villainous characters. Especially those who become part of the enemies to lovers trope.
Hailey did such an amazing job with this story. Even though it is only short it contains so much content and is perfectly and beautifully written to evoke all the right emotions on cue.
I adored this book and if you love adult fairytale retellings, please give this one a read.
I got this book through kindle unlimited and I almost switched it for another book. I'm so glad I didnt!! This little gem of a book was great. Considering its length I still got good banter and well fleshed out characters. My only regret is that this little story is longer! Peter Pan can kick rocks and Hook?...he can stay right here! This was a short spicy read with great imagery and good plot. I'm pleasantly surprised and ridiculously pleased. Well done Hailey Jade!
If you're looking for something quick to read with a bit of adventure and a dash of steam, this short story is perfect for you.
Wendy is the centerpoint of the story, and it flows between her present circumstances on Captain Hook's ship, to memories of recent events involving her time Peter Pan.
Who is the villain? Pan or Hook? Will Wendy decide to grow up, or will she choose to stay in Neverland and continue playacting as mother to the Lost Boys?
As other reviewers have noted this is not your children's Peter Pan. This is clear an adult version.
Given that, it was definitely a different take on Peter and Hook. It certainly did not turn out the way I expected. The boys were rarely mentioned. Peter is not as nice as we remember from our childhood days. Wendy however becomes quite the good sailor, and more.
I really appreciate the fact that Pan didn't get his way. Like the spoiled brat that he is. It was well written, and I think that you'll enjoy it as much as I did. Already purchased Hailey Jades other book.
I saw this on Kindle Unlimited and was like, why not? I really enjoyed this book. It shows the dark side of Peter and a human, caring, and sweet side of Hook. I just wish it had been longer. I would love to read more of this version of Hook and Wendy.
All of the prior reviews are correct— this is a lovely quick read full of heart and some spice. I wanted more of the characters, that’s how good this novella was. I just found a new author to follow!
