As one who has little contact with things relating to hinduism, I was surprised to find it so moving and relevant to any life. Important, even. At least it felt that way to me
The translation is great, very accesible, I found that I understood it quite well even when it is an ancient text and written in prose. That is because the translator did a great job in balancing - knowing when to directly translate and give it that feeling like Vishnu is speaking in almost "arcane" language, but also when to use a more practical language.
At least for a layman, its amazing. Maybe not so to a scholar or one who actually practices the religion, but I could not say.
I still recommend using a companion text or reading a summary beforehand, to get a little more context about what is going on, such as why Arjuna is going to battle, and so on.
