Rate this book
A sacrifice made. A Primordial defeated. The hard part starts now.

Felix had risked everything to stop the threat of the Unending Maw. Except, instead of death, he and his Companion Pit were transported to the deadly Void, a place far worse than the Foglands. The Maw is there with them, bonded somehow to Felix in a way none of them understand, but all of them hate.

The three must navigate the desolate expanse of the dark Void, contending with voidbeasts, marauders, and the creeping influence of the Maw itself. It will take everything that Felix has—and more—merely to survive, let alone escape.

All Choices Have Consequences.

I have never been more disappointed by a sequel

This novel is literally 98% filler, it is at best 2-3 chapters stretched into a book in order to steal as much kindLe unlimited money as possible, up there with the worst KU cash grabs I’ve seen. The climax is literally him fighting “unknown pirate”.. gains nothing of any worth and only just leaves the void at the last page.

Looking past the filler nature and on to what was there. The MC actually regressed, every situation that got tough he capitulated and backed down completely opposite so what was shown in the first book. It actually made me mad to read his actions in this one. If this is what we can expect from this authors future works, I’ll personally never read another of his novels.

I wouldn’t be surprised is Amazon bans this for blatant word fill for money. It only gets 2 stars because I just read book 1 and still remember how good that one was, may drop it to 1 Latter.

The first book, love it or hate it, was interesting. . .

This was just boring. The first four fifths could be summed up and not read, and you will not miss anything of any import. The characters have no agency, they just go along with whatever is happening. This whole book feels like one very long, very bloated set up. This was filler, not a continuation of story. I expected better from the author.

I couldn't actually finish the book. I loved the first book. But after forcing my self to listen to this sad excuse of a sequel for 8 hours I just said NO! I just can't stand it anymore. As others have said about this book. It was not just nothing but filler, no as if that wasn't bad enough the entire book the MC regressed completely. There was no excitement in this book, every thing was bland and boring and below mediocre. The horrible pointless shift from 1 interesting POV which was the MC's to multiple POV's involving uninteresting characters and unimportant events. I can't remember the last time I was this disappointed by a sequel, from a new author who's first book I loved. It's such a rushed book. It's obvious it was a complete cash grab and no real effort such as with the first book was put into it.

Been a while since I used an 1/4 star scale. This book was such a disappointment compared to the first book. The theme of this story is let's have the MC go from a bad situation to a terrible situation. Nothing good happens to the MC in this one. The best thing that could happen to Felix is that he escapes the void. That is the BEST thing that can happen. He has no other goals except to survive. The author also thought giving Felix an impossible task was too easy so made it even more difficult I sure hope things get better in the next book. Getting back with the group from the first book will at least be something. Overall this was. very frustrating book with a lot of fighting but no real growth and not much moved the story forward.

Disappointed and felt like a filler book.

Not much here to drive the underlined plot here, just the mc constantly running for his life and arguing with the maw that the author saddled the mc with.

Don't get me started on the MC's unlimited mana pool he seems to have.

The one positive thing it was narrated by Travis Baldree

Another exciting read.
Gonnella certainly kept me on my toes, and I can't wait to get my hands on the next book!

Good lord, what a disappointment. Really enjoyed most of the first book and felt like it built an interesting world and a decent MC. This steaming heap of road apples is just terrible and I couldn't get past 20%. The tying of the 1st book main baddie to the MC (not a spoiler since you get it in the first paragraph of the book) is just a huge mistake. It's a "cartoon villain" caricature of an antagonist and is insanely annoying. It actively detracts from the story instead of adding anything at all.

After looking at a couple reviews to see if things might get better I realized that this whole series is just annoying filler and needs to be flushed down the literary toilet.

Done. Do not continue.

This book suffers a little bit from the sophomore slump. I liked that there was a plot. The story went somewhere and that is hopefully to a better place for the next book. But a lot of the LitRPG elements that I liked were non-existent because of the environment. Also I despised that he was tethered with the maw. It made that main character’s perspective less enjoyable for me. Also I didn’t really care that much about the other characters because it mainly followed the character, whom I liked the least. There was skill leveling which was something but the broken skills and how that is being handled is annoying. There is still a lot of potential for this series but this book was a step back. I’m hoping the next book can right its course.

I found the book interesting, but I was expecting to be out of the void by the 50% or 60% of the book.
So while a good read, I found it sometimes a bit longish.

It was good that there were some interludes, those broke the bleak void...

book two

Mistakes: I found a few mistakes and listed them on GoodReads.
Plot holes I couldn’t list, like him saying or thinking that getting hit by a ballista bolt would end him. He had been hit by a couple earlier and they didn’t even hurt him. He was hit by more a few pages after thinking that and survived yet again, so why even put that thought in the book?

Plot: Lots of running around the void and lots of fighting. I completely ignored the sections that jumped to other characters. Just don’t care about what they are doing in this book.

Characters: The mc is overpowered. No matter what he does he always has more in the tank. He can fight hundreds and still has enough mana to run away from a huge monster for hours, only to fight some more.

6/10

An objective assessment wouldn't have given this a 5, but subjectively I enjoyed reading it despite its (many) faults. A lot of what went on in the Void was unnecessary, bordering on filler, is my major complaint. Minor spoilers follow.

The constant fighting with the Maw is also tedious. We get it that the MC doesn't like it/her, but some sort of resolution is needed there. Either Maw evolves to be grudgingly accepted as a (at times necessary) evil/devil on the MC's shoulder, or gets excised entirely. Signs point to the former happening, but the end of this book leaves that up in the air.

The other PoVs derailed the story from my perspective, as the time spent on them didn't justify their forward movement of the story. I think that's the biggest problem: too many pages of stuff that didn't move the story forward.

Despite that, I'll stick with my rating, as that was my initial reaction upon finishing the book. Despite the flaws, it kept me engaged, unlike something else I tried to read earlier the same day.

This book is boring as hell and I only finished this one because I liked the first so much.. I thought maybe the adventure in the void would be short or at least interesting but it’s bland as hell and the MC let’s himself get pushed around by everyone. Considering the void supposedly sucks the strength out of everyone and he is fresh from the I it side, you would think he would at least try to stand up for himself. The first book had him isolated from the new world and that wasn’t too bad but I was really looking forward to him interacting with it, not getting thrown into a different kinda isolation.

I really liked this book, it was a really good addition to the series and I can't wait for book 3.

I listened to the audio version so we'll be talking about the narration.
Travis baldree does good as always, he always does good. There's really not word for how good he is, Travis is a top tier narrator, and he fits this book perfectly.

When we talk about characters, I like them just as much as the last book. I began to like the fire mage more and I felt a connection with the other characters as well, I also started to like the mc and his pet way more. The other characters brought to the story were also written very well.
I also like the progression, I feel like there could've been more, but it's still good. The reason I say it could've been better is, For 1, I feel his power is scattered I really don't know if he's strong or anything, it just feels scattered, the next reason is, he progressed but not really, like he progressed but I feel it could've been more. Especially with all the skill progression in the first book.
I don't really know Felix's goal or what he want to do, but I feel this book was kinda filler, I just think he spent alot of time in the void and then when he leaves the book ends. Like I said I can't really say it's filler, I just think more could've happened. I also don't know what was happening with the povs, I didn't mind them, I just want to know what's gonna happen. Is he gonna meet the other people again? Or is he gonna stay on his own for a while? If it's the ladder than i feel all the other povs were unnecessary.

The plot was good, I really liked it, I think that the plot progressed but it's better to say that the plot is better than the storyline, he was in the void for the entire book and i just can't say I think the story progressed like I wanted it too. That being said i still do think this is a good book.
I also like the world building, it was good in the first book and it's even better now.
I also like the fighting, it's awesome, I love listening to him get stronger and beat his enemies to a pulp, this book is action packed and I loved every bit of it.

Conclusion.

The characters are good, I felt a better connection with them than I felt in the first book. I feel like he progressed in this book, and I liked how he progressed I just think there could've been more for how much he fought.
I liked the plot, but I feel the storyline could've progressed more.
The reason I said I feel this is filler is, I just feel the story could've progressed more, I do think that alot happened in the void, I just feel more could've happened.
So over all I rate this book a 5 star. I think book 3 will be better than book 2, and I think book 2 was better than book 1.

It wasn’t bad!

I started the second book with a slight concern after learning that people found this book to be the one that turns em’ away from the series. The void being bleak as well…void, it was hard to stay interested in this arc cause of it. However I still do think the voices against the second book are at times too severe, it still had interesting aspects to it and short but important relationships that resulted from his fall into the void. The book explains just a touch more about the continent and the realms, and just a touch more about his powers. Mentions of greater forces and their relevance as well. Panicky action was there, and the rush of RUN RUN RUN was also there. I dropped a star because one, this book was far shorter than the previous and has most definitely dropped in quality compared to it, although the quality goes right back up in the next book and onwards. Two, the progress in terms of skills and stuff system wise was barely there, mostly cause of the unique nature of this arc but other than a couple of interesting powerups, nothing much else. This book was less about growing stronger as much as it was straight up running for his life with what he had. He still whooped and won and stuff, but rewards for his efforts will be in the next book. Overall, good action, good rush, happy moments, sad moments, adrenaline pumping moments, and finally relief. Smidge of powerups in between. Overall, 8/10. Not bad don’t let it stop you from reading the entire series. It gets better!

Not as good as the first book. Entertaining but trying to do too much plot.

I enjoyed the story overall. But when the book first started I almost quit within the first hundred pages because the author took a character with Free Will and forced him into a situation that he just had to react to. The main character was enjoyable from the first book because he created his own destiny as he learned everything around him. The author is also trying to maintain supporting characters in an alternate plot line that the reader isn't really engaged with and it's hard to care about them. The normal good guy bad guy tropes of the supporting characters with the evil Inquisition is really old and tired storytelling.
The the main antagonist from the first book is carried over as a fragmented ghost personality within the main character, in the situation becomes old and tiresome and annoying that the main character has to deal with this person. Again it's because you've taken away the main characters ability to defend and fight for his own direction. The antagonist being trapped in his body somehow always makes you feel like he's never really doing anything on his own. It weakens the main character because it never stops and continues through the whole first book and promises to be most of the third book. I like the overall story but it's starting to become ordinary and unoriginal by using tried and true tropes and non-compelling storyline.

Pretty esoteric but the series has potential

Lots of esoteric concepts of mana based physics as the MC is flung from his 2nd world into the void. There he is pursued by a manabeast that was corrupted by the released power of his previous nemesis, the Maw (a primordial entity). He is also pursued by mana pirates and void mana predators until he finally escapes back to the real world. In the interm, the guild adventurers that he was working with have become outcasts due to the machinations of the city elders, who have their own schemes afoot. So far, the purpose of the elder's nefarious experments on survivors of the foglands and especially Magda's corpse is unclear. It feels like a dead end because her corpse has been snatched and cremated by her sister, girlfriend and guild mates. Unfortunately for the elders, a hidden nemesis is corrupting the survivors and spreading that rot to unsuspecting members of the guild.

Bottom line, the OP MC is constantly fighting and surviving despite overwelming numbers of enemies. (Getting hard to belive.) They fling magic around and do super-human stuff but the flow of the story is not engaging. I understand that this takes place in a null-space aka the void where physics is bizarro-world, yet as l said the flow of the story is disjointed. I will continue reading but l hope the story flow improves.

Felix and Pit have enter the endless Void which drains vitality over time

After a harrowing initial adventure we’ll set of adventures really, success in his quest sends Felix, Pit and the spirit of the Maw to the Void.
Only because he received a quest, does Felix hold to his belief of an escape while all those he asks deny the possibility. An impossible goal but there are rumors of paths that could take you back, only one has any merit to Felix, but can he survive to learn what he needs to and then get there?
All before he makes it back to the Continent where the system works properly, allowing leveling and skill growth.
He runs afoul of pirates soon after and has to fight his way out of their base. And a grand chase ensues when he escapes.
Then he finds a quaint town hidden away and he and Pit enjoy some days of rest and recovery.
All the while he is being hunted by a near Primordial being intent on devouring his mana and him. Felix also struggles to avoid using some of his skills that were broken by the Maw, or while gaining the strength and power to protect himself.

The first book was decent, but the sequel is pretty disappointing. The MC has just the one gimmick of using his willpower to overcome all odds ( including but not limited to reality, laws of physics and common sense). It's fine if it's once or twice but it's the same thing over and over. Plot armour keeps him alive and story going(somewhat?). So to make this review constructive, willpower is well and good but a rational MC would be appreciated. A well executed plan doesn't make a Mary Sue. Think of it this way, would the story progress the way it does if there is no plot devices ( e.g. sudden growth of power, random insight in the heat of battle , exquisitely timed external help, and i quote 'scraping the bottom of his willpower' ). Just have a read through this book titled Paranoid Mage. Someone thrust into an unknown world against his wishes using his wits to figure out himself as well as the world around. Anyways Hope this is somewhat helpful to anyone reading this. Take care of yourselves.

I love this series. It is insane. The world building, the friendships, enemies, quests, battles, war, all of it. And I also love that it has Gay, Lesbian, and Gay relationships in it.

It is an incredibly long book/series, so if you do not like to read A LOT, don't even try.

Don't start or read this series If you read very slow, or don't like long books/series as this series is around 8,000 pages long, and each book ranges from 500 to 900 pages each. It's its incredible series, but it is not for the faint of heart or the low on time.

SPOILER
Ware all who enter: Felix is Unbound, from Earth, and summoned to the Continent. He is being leveled by the goddess Vellus as well as the Unending Mae who has tampered with him and his skills and race for both good and ill. He will have to sunder his skills to repair himself from the damage the maw has done. Only once he eats her and becomes a Primordial Nym does he truly begin to repair the damage and become something/someone to be feared.

When this story was being put on Royal Road, there was no book 2. This book 2 was invented for the people on paetreon who wanted an explanation for why Felix became such an emotionally retarded character. This is why there is no real progression for the MC, that would have changed the already written material and rather than have any distinguishable writing talent, the author instead uses the same tropes you see everywhere else, MC is a practical coward, MC has a split personality now because it allows easy bloat of the novel and a reason for the the mc to act out of character.

This book is everything young Nicoli would have laughed at other authors for releasing, but it is of no surprise for the people who panicked at how terrible the final 2/5s of the first book was. Now, why would I waste my time reading something this terrible? I hate read this because it forces me to think ahout how much better I could do, and I basically failed English due to lack of grammar skill.

Too Feminist

The story is more entertaining than not, and creative.

But, my main gripe is the feminism everywhere, which annoys me too much. Every leader and powerful person is a female. The group leaders, Maggie, then Cal, and Evie in training. The duchy heir princess who is a prodigy and soon to be not only Duchess, but leader of the incredible Dragoons. The leader of the city. The captains on every ship, except one. ALL the GODS are female! Haha. All 4 gods mentioned are females, 2 are lesbians.
And the males who have any kind of major role are 'arrogant' and psychotic.
SERIOUSLY?
It's pathetic. Why would you do this? Are you intentionally trying to further the manipulation and simping of males? The vast majority of your audience is male.. so why are you writing for feminists and girls? It's aggravating and ruins the books.

Good, but lacking any progression.

Some spoilers, read at your own risk.

I love litepg, I specifically love progression of our hero. This entire book is about how our hero is trapped in a progression-less world. To further that, the progress he had previously made, in many ways, had been undone. It was an interesting story, for sure, pirates, betrayal, civilization, betrayal.

But there is also our hero constantly saying “what?”. Constantly. Someone says something, and instead of thinking, or working out some way to leverage what he hears he just stammers, “what are you talking about”. Gets exhausting at points.

This book shook me some, but I’m still proceeding to the next book, we shall see. I DID notice this book is smaller than every other book though, so perhaps having abit of a… pause, isn’t so bad, but we shall see. On to book 3!

You know those books where the protagonist runs from every fight because the author thinks it makes things "tense"? Where the MC is just such a perfect goober that they always do the right thing? This is one of those books.

Because of plot, the MC cannot become stronger during the events of this book. We are told repeatedly, every time he runs, that everyone else is stronger than he is. Random animals? Too scary, run. Big animal? Run faster. Pirates? How scary, better run. Random town guard #37? Run away! Of course, once the plot hits the ~15% remaining mark, the author decides it's wrap-up time so the MC has to fight the pirates now. Except since the MC hasn't gotten any stronger, the whole thing is just a massive plot hole.

We were told all the pirates were faster than him earlier in the book, explicitly. We are later told only the captain can match the MC.

What a mess.

This felt like a filler book and could have condensed into part of a book rather than a full 400+ pages. The MMC Felix didn't really learn or grow much from the start to the end, and there wasn't anything significant he took out from his time in the Void at all, from pirates to monsters to other beings he met. He couldn't gain any levels or significant skills while in the Void. In hindsight, this book could just be skipped other than a few interesting POV chapters from the side cast still in Haarwatch.

The second book in the Unbound series did a good job following up book one by continuing to develop the main character. Taking a break from the stats and levels that other LitRPG books often get overburdened by, Silence spent it's time exploring one aspect of the world that Felix has found himself in as well as the relationships he has formed with others. There is some introspection, so if that isn't your thing that you might want to pass. In other books, I've often found that the end of these internal journeys is another overwhelming power obtained by the main character but it didn't feel that way here. The book is short, but has done a good job advancing the MC and giving hints about what's coming through his former companions. All in all, a good read from a genre that often loses sight of the story through the stats and levels.

Bruh.

The authors set up so many cool characters! Why write an entire book disregarding all of them? I mean, they had their own POVs for short chapters in the book, but ugh I just hate the MC getting separated from the people he knows. I understand that going it alone is a great tool to cultivate growth but c'mon man :(

The setting itself isn't bad, although I'm not the biggest fan of Felix's new dark passenger. She lets the reader in on some cool worldbuilding that we hopefully would get to see in the future, but I'm sure there's a million better ways to establish future events than her broody annoying ass.

Maybe Felix gets out of this prison on page 5 of the next book, but I won't be finding out. Horrible direction change, and the pacing felt similar to the beginning of the first book. Which is to say, also bad.

Not a patch on the first book

Whilst I shall eagerly await the third book this second one was for me hugely disappointing. The void was pretty boring. Felix can't advance his stats in a meaningful way so the RPG elements are suppressed. He can't interact with any existing characters. So we are left with small windows on the 'real world '. The writing itself is fine but the story plot was not for me I'm afraid. As a side note the Maw was interesting in the first book but here is just a further annoying element. I can see the idea of the two thrown into the void and connected by their previous interaction. But it doesn't hold my attention here. If you enjoy Moorcocks books of trippy main characters flowing through other dimensions this story might work for you.

Excellent adventure

Second book of the series is still as good as the 1st. Set in a different world, the void this time. Mostly. There are still shenanigans happening back on the continent and seemingly lost 1 of our heroes from the 1st book. The MC still has a lot to learn and He is constantly fumbling forward. Would be good if he had a moment to himself to figure things out but that doesn't seem to be in the cards. Unfortunately there didn't seem to be any more of he's learning the rooms or script or really much about the magic in general. He was acting more like a pinball reacting to the various events he ran into. Hopefully the next book he can gain some positive control of his life And improve himself plus fix the damage. I eagerly await the next book.
