In this follow up, we get to know a little bit more about Shaena and who she is outside of her eating disorder. I enjoyed this installment, but not as much as the first. I feel like there were a lot of unanswered questions and some issues just really rushed through. It is a novella, but I would have loved for this and the first novella to be combined into a novel with a more complete story.

Loved it!

I enjoyed part 2 as much as part 1. I loved how the main character stood up for herself, no matter what. Watching her growth and transformation was a bonus. Great read!

GOOD FOR SHAENA!! 👏🏾👏🏾

For a few minutes, I was worried about our good sis. Carrie came off as a fake friend the whole time, and I'm glad the truth was revealed. Mike and Carrie could have each other and have little narcissistic babies. Monica was a GREAT friend, it was good seeing Shaena finally reveal her truth. Loved seeing her glow up come full circle. Great job, Samyra!

In “I Should Have Worn a Curtain 2” Samyra Alexander continues the story of Shaena, a young woman, who suffers from eating disorder.

What I especially liked about this book is that the author doesn’t try to make Shaena look perfect, while the whole world is against her. This is true, a lot of people deny things like depression, bulimia, anorexia, etc., proclaiming these problems to be illusionary and simply the consequences of a lack of willpower. But at the same time, some people tend to blame the world for their problems.

Samyra Alexander draws a truthful portrait of someone, who suffers from bulimia, with flaws, sometimes unfair judgements, as well as illogical actions.

I liked the way the author depicts the relationship between Shaena and her family. Every family has its ups and downs, but the most important thing is that these ties are not to be broken easily, and even after many years of misunderstandings they can be fixed.

Shaena’s Road To Renaissance

I applaud Shaena for recognizing and confronting the self and external sabotage behaviors. She finally found her voice and took the necessary steps to her renaissance road.

Interesting follow up !

I was very excited to read this second book in the collection. Shawna is an easy character to stay interested in. Watching her work through her problems kept me curious. I’m happy with how it ended.
I just can’t believe she was friend with that one girl for so long or that she even bothers putting up with aunt Pat. Though I have developed a bit of sympathy for her mother it is clear that her mother and aunt were not exactly brought up to be ...kind and or nurturing.
Monica and Ava are the only side characters I never wanted to strangle lol.

I will say that while I loved the dialogue , some of the narration of “inner thoughts” felt either rushed or stiff at times.

But overall I really enjoyed the story and I was shocked at times. I would definitely recommend both this book and it’s predecessor!

2026: 2nd Read - Review:

If you know me, you know I live for everything Samyra Alexander creates! I just finished my second round of I Should Have Worn A Curtain 2, and this time I listened to the new audiobook narrated by Engle Coulter, and she totally nailed it! The way she brought Shaena’s world to life was even more amazing than the first time! Our fierce FMC is facing some serious struggles with food addiction and bulimia, dealing with her complicated relationship with her mom, and navigating a messy breakup with a total nincompoop! The character development is exceptional, and it is truly inspiring to watch her evolution and journey toward self-improvement. Once again, this book deserves a resounding 5-star rating!

2025: 1st Read - Review:

A Inspiring Story of Self-Love!

I absolutely adored Shaena, her beautiful flaws and all! I Should Have Worn A Curtain 2 kept me smiling while rooting for Shaena! She definitely would be one of my best friends. The growth she experienced with her family, self-worth, and accomplishments was so inspiring. If you love reading about someone realistically overcoming obstacles and healing their body inside and out, you will enjoy Shaena’ journey. I am so grateful to have discovered this author, Samyra Alexander, her amazing pen game never disappoints!

After reading the first book in this two-part story, I was not disappointed by the second. Alexander expands on Shaena’s narrative by adding social media self-harm, complex friendships, and stress that escalates under external pressure (job loss, boyfriend betrayal, harassment from family). Shaena continues to fight herself with a present-mindedness mentality, swinging from highs to lows rapidly as she comes to terms with the destructive nature of addiction. Alexander paints the protagonist's battle with supreme realism, and holds a crystal clear mirror up to human behaviour to analyze the extremist element in diet culture, exercise fanaticism, and anger as a byproduct of feeling out of control. However bleak this sounds, Alexander includes hopeful messaging and strategies throughout the tale; in Ava, the mentor at OA; with the tangible support systems, like the affirmation cards and journals; and through a realistic—though empowering—ending. If these themes resonate with you, I highly recommend this book.

1st ending I’m not mad at😂😂

I really enjoyed reading this book. A lot of the lessons Shaena learned can be applied into everyday life, and not just with addictions. It made me think about the changes I been wanting to make in my own life but haven’t been consistent with. I loved the ending !!! For the first time in a LONG time I’m not mad at the way the book ends. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED #Butleronbooks

Good Read

I give I should have worn a curtain 2, 5 out of 5 stars. I really enjoyed this book. I’m glad there was a part 2 for closure. There was an answer for everything and a lot of changes and growth. I found myself cheering and other times talking back to the characters ready to fight…lol. In the end I enjoyed this book.

Emotionally Charged

I guess you could say I needed that! I’m so grateful she found her way. And I truly still want to beat Carrie’s ass I knew what she was doing when she started with the question’s. Everyone needs a friend like Monica.

Having read the first book I was excited to see that the author had released a second one. These novellas focus on eating disorders and give a real-life perspective. Shaena is an admirable MC who is fighting her way to recovery and building her self-confidence. I love the use of mental health in the story, and the author has done it justice with a wonderful character.

An Honest Portrayal Wrapped in a Fictional Tale

This was the second book of the I SHOULD HAVE WORN A CURTAIN series and I was not disappointed. The author presented a sensitive yet honest portrayal of the life of someone suffering from an eating disorder. While “Shaena” is a fictional character, she could be any woman in America. The book features drama, betrayal, and could also be seen as a commentary of the power of social media.

Can there be a part 3??!!

Oh my goodness!!! I really enjoyed this book so much. I love Shaena and I hope there is a book 3 so we can all see how far she has come. I love how this series focuses on real issues that anyone can relate to. I also love how the author made you feel inspired to do more and to be better. Please pretty please make a book 3, 4, 5 etc etc. I want to see how my favorite person is doing I love Shaena!! I feel like she's me.

I loved it.

I loved part one and was grateful for part two. The entire series made me think about my own life and decisions I make when it comes to food. It was personal but also enjoyable at the same time. I can't wait to read more by Samyra!

Another wonderful book by the Author Samyra Alexander. This book made me feel as if I was checking up on an old friend. I am so proud of Sheana you would have thought I knew her in real life. As someone who can empathize with her and her relationship with food, I am proud that she has moved in a positive direction.

Shaena's journey continues as she struggles with overeating, family secrets, and crumbling friendships. I didn't enjoy this book as much as the first because it didn't seem like there was a clear plot. The day-to-day became monotonous until Shaena took control of hey life and stood up for herself. The last 20% of the book I was cheering for the empowerment she worked so hard to achieve.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½🍰

My thoughts: 🔖Page 69 of 182 Chapter Six - This could have been one novel.

Is there a Part 3? This series could have been a single novel instead of a short story and novella. The novella (2) has a lot more substance than the short story (1) but the ending doesn't exist. Book 1 is the exposition and rising action, Book 2 is the climax and falling action, but it's missing the resolution. Which is why I can't give it 4 stars, the story isn't finished.

Recommend to others: I'm not sure. This series was recommended to me and it's good but the incomplete ending left a bad taste in my mouth and I'd be reluctant to pass on that experience to others.

I Should Have Worn A Curtain
1. I Should Have Worn A Curtain
2. Should Have Worn A Curtain 2

Memorable Quotes: When my head is out the toilet, I clean up and remember my interview in the morning. I hope I feel better by then. I say a prayer. God, help me to stop compulsive eating. I don’t know if I need to re-do steps one through six after tonight. I don’t want to live like this. On a positive note, I’m thankful for the interview, but it would suck if I had to cancel because I made myself sick. How dumb of me to do this to myself. Amen.

Later that evening, I arrive at OA and sit next to Ava as the facilitator opens the meeting to discuss honesty. The bubbly brunette woman jogs to the podium when the facilitator invites members to share. “I’m a compulsive eater. My friends and I went hiking this morning and discovered new trails.” She smiles. “We made up after the buffet scene although they called me entitled.” She looks at the ceiling. “Entitled doesn’t resonate with me. Today, we discussed honesty, so I must confess what I did last night.” She looks nervous, but she continues. “My downstairs neighbors had a party, a catered event. Unfortunately, most of the food was on my abstain list. But, in front of everyone, I ate sensibly. We all went home when the party ended, and my neighbors went out for date night.” She covers her face with her hand and removes it before continuing, “I know they keep their doors unlocked, so I broke into their house and raided the refrigerator to eat the leftovers. “I had to sneak out of their home. I feel just awful. The friends who gave the party are the same ones I went hiking with this morning. I'll eventually have to confess.” She pauses to look at her sponsor. “In the future, I'll either eat before a party or bring healthy dishes for all to enjoy. I’m happy to say today I'm back on track.” We all clap as she leaves the podium. Since I've been here, I've heard some things, but that story tops them all, though, who am I to judge? That took guts to tell us.

When I started book one, I wasn't sure what to expect. I'll be honest I didn't LOVE Shaena. As readers we are given a very intimate view of her thoughts and emotions and our girl is messy.

Her struggle with food, her inability to admit her flaws, and the excuses irked me. With that said, I was still empathetic because there were several people in her life that triggered her and pushed her to be on the defensive.

In book 2, we see her continue to slip and make excuses, but we also see the catalyst that brings her clarity. Once she stops making excuses and puts in the work and allows herself to be vulnerable, she becomes unburdened and embraces personal growth. I was rooting for our girl and was ready to throw hands when that fake bish did her dirty.

This story reminded me of Bridget Jones where you have a flawed protagonist, that is simply trying to exist and find happiness and inner peace.

In book 2, we stay with Shaena as she continues the work of becoming her best self. And by “best,” I mean better. Still imperfect. Still messy. Still navigating a whole lot. Family dynamics, an eating disorder, and deeply rooted self-esteem struggles are all right there on the page, and the story never rushes her through any of it.

I’ll be honest, at the beginning, my girl had me concerned. Watching her spiral had me bracing myself for how this was going to turn out. But that discomfort is also what I loved most about the book. The journey isn’t polished. It’s uncomfortable. It’s real and raw in a way that feels honest.
By the end, we don’t get a fairytale resolution, but we do get realism. We get a sense that Shaena is on the right track, even if she doesn’t have everything figured out yet. And while I don’t know if we’re getting another book, I’m absolutely rooting for her because I can see all that she can become.

I listened to the audiobook version which was perfect for my 2 hour flight. This was the second book following the story of Shaena, a woman with a an eating disorder trying to navigate through her life and relationship. After the explosive twist on the first, I had to dive into the second and was not disappointed. This book really shined the light on how someone with an addiction can overcome and stay resilient when life keeps throwing things at you. I’m really proud of her, her growth from book one has been amazing. Dealing with the after shocks of a bad breakup, a terrible backstabbing “friendship” and learning to set boundaries with her family, she really persevered. This is a good book for anyone struggling with learning to love and forgive themselves. Highly recommend!

Came Through In The End

Alright Samyra! It came together in the end and I was back on Shaena's side. I was mad at her for most if the story, her low self-esteem, yet people telling her that she is the best. Her obsessing over Mike the jerk, constantly calling, texting, and sending up flares wanting him to what...control freaks don't apologize. I am glad Shaena fell in love with herself and began to live her life. Good job!

I actually enjoyed this book more than the first one. Shayna is still distraught from her break up with Michael, the personal trainer and slips back into her old habits involving purging food/bulimia. Things continue to spiral out of control as she learns to deal with the breakup, job loss, bulimia and a very strained relationship with her parents. This is a story of redemption and finally learning to speak up for oneself.

2.5 Thank you for writing this book. You got the crazy disordered thinking right. I’ve been in “the rooms” for many years. The love and support is there if you take advantage of it. The mother daughter relationship was described well.
My main complaint iis about the editing. There are missing words, grammar mistakes and misspellings. Those things took me out of the story.

I absolutely loved this. This book follows Shaena. A beautiful plus sized woman on a journey of healing. She binge eats. But she is working on that. I loved how relatable this story is. She becomes stronger and stronger as the story progresses. She's funny, a good friend, when she lets her guard down. I thought it was a great story of self-love.
