The Jehlum Boys

Rate this book
Set in the 1980s, it revolves around two young Kashmiri friends of different faiths, Nishant and Mudassir, whose lives change completely after the forced exodus of Hindus from the valley in January 1990.

The book traverses through the journeys of these two best friends after that fateful January night. While Nishant is relegated to the life of a refugee in a camp in Jammu, Mudassir becomes a terrorist.

Nishant gets himself out of the misery through education and reaches the US while Mudassir lands in Pakistan. Yet through all their trials and tribulations both have not been able to take each other out of their minds.

Why did Mudassir have to go to Pakistan? And how Nishant reacts when he comes to know of his friend’s fate is what unfolds in the novel while taking the reader through their individual tragedies, turmoil and heartaches.

Childhood bonds are the strongest and this tale reinforces that.

Does friendship have a political colour or does it have its own language is what The Jehlum Boys endeavours to retell? It is important for such human interest stories to throw a better perspective on how normal people react to relationships in their own lives.

This book is an interesting and adventurous read but quite lengthy. Because this was a lengthy read it will take 2-3 days to read this book. This book starts with a refusee camp and end up on Sea adventure or I can say survival.
This book is about 2 friends who are not just friend, they are friends forever in real sense. Friendship, Survival and faith are the few things on which this book is based on. Loved the plot of this book.
This book is written about Kashmiri boys and their life journey. Author even has pointed out the english spelling for Jhelum is Jehlum in Kashmiri sense. Both boys who are best friend get different kind of life once they were destined to go apart from each other. This storyline will actually give you tears sometimes or sometimes the thrill.
Those people who likes to read about Kashmiri lifestyle or how they survive in tough times, this book will be perfect recommendation for them.
What I learned from this book that Friendship is the only relationship in life which is blessing if you have real one. This friendship is the only relation which is beyond judgement and world. This book actually portrayed the meaning of true friendship.
To learn some Kashmiri Words as well as value about life read this amazing book.

THE JEHLUM BOYS by Prashant Pandita is a book that will hook you from the beginning. As the title suggests, it is set in Kashmir. We might have heard a lot about the events that took place during the early 90s, but this book will give a deep insight into those issues.

One factor about the story which impressed me is its diversity of characters. All the characters have importance and a role to play in the story. The author has done a fabulous job by executing such a story and bringing it to us. Narration is spot on and I really enjoyed the rollercoaster storyline.

The final chapters are really amazing and detailed. We can visualise the context by reading those pages.

People from Kashmir can relate to the situations explained in this book. Nishant's journey from a refugee camp to the US and how he found his way back to his friend. We could call everything fate's play. I definitely recommend this book to everyone. Do check it out.

There was a time during my professional life when I travelled extensively to Kashmir. The Hindi diction of the local people is a little different – it is almost sing-song. As I picked up the book by Prashant, I wondered why it was titled ‘Jehlum’ when we know the river as ‘Jhelum’. The author clarifies this right at the beginning – this is how Kashmiris pronounce the name.

Nishant and Mudassir are two childhood friends born and brought up in Kashmir. Fateful events of January 1990 force Nishant and his family to migrate to a refugee camp in Jammu. He does not give up on hope. He realises that the only way out for him to move out of this squalor is to study and work hard. He succeeds in moving to America.

Mudassir on the other hand is manipulated and ends up in a training camp in Pakistan, and then as a labourer in Karachi.

The plot till almost 80% of the story is relatable and storytelling is compelling. It narrates the events leading up to the exodus, life in the camps, Nishant’s hard work, and then his moving to USA. The unfortunate circumstances are not heavy with sentimentality, but are backdrops for the principled and ethical man that Nishant turns into.

It is in the last part of the book when Nishant practically becomes a single man army or more appropriately a superhero that the story felt as if I was watching a Bollywood movie. But I am not complaining. Having brought up on the Amitabh Bachchan movies of the 1970s and 1980s, it was enjoyable.

An enjoyable fast paced read if you have also loved the Bollywood movies of yesteryears.

The Jehlum Boys as the title reads is a story that revolves around 2 friends Nishant and Mudassir. As the author Prashant Pandita takes the reader into the life of these friends one gets to experience the emotions they go through. Along their journey we get to meet many interesting characters who play a vital role.

Each chapter has something that hooks the reader. The smooth narrative not just ensures one to get a glimpse of the beautiful places of Kashmir and Srinagar but also the heart wrenching scenes of the 1990 riots as well. The author further explains the difficulties in a refugee camp, apart from various other things. The description about the US and the professional college episode was something I enjoyed reading.

Overall a good interesting read.

Book Name -: The Jehlum Boys
Writer -: Prashant Pandita
Genre - Fiction

Sypnosis -: The book story in set in Kashmir Valley of India during early 90s. It shares a beautiful friendship story of 2 young boys 'Nishant' a Kashmiri Pandit & 'Mudassir' a Muslim boy, who were more than just friends. They were more precious than life to each other. But things changed during the riot in kashmir Valley and both of them get seperated due to the breakout of tension between the different religions groups and both of them had to leave each other in between all these things. Things got very hard for both of them as Kashmiri pandits were getting killed by others, Nishant and his family had to flee to refugee camp set in Jammu where as Mudassir ended up in a Pakistani traning camp. From that exact moment their life completely changed upside down. Both of them were now a part of 2 different Worlds specially for Mudassir because he was surrounded by people who were ready to kill him anytime. His only hope left to get out from there was Nishant.

Will Nishant go to rescue his friend? Will the Jhelum Boys ever reunite?
Read to know the full story.

Things I liked -:

1. The plot -: The story of Kashmiri pandit is something which always send chills down my spine. I believe it's a really tough thing to build up a powerful story around a topic like this as many a times writer put up too much sentiments in the story which make it unconventional to read. But that was not the case with this book. I will actually say this is by far one of the best fictional story I've read which is about the riots of Kashmir. The story not only give an insight of the situation of that time but also it has showcased us the situation of the people during that time. And all of this in such a fluent way that you will feel every word or the story within your mind. Other than that the story talks about the bond of friendship, the bond of togetherness, it shows us that no matter how hard life become one thing that always keep the hope alive is the feeling of love & friendship. All of these are presented together in the story and you can not guess that how powerful the story is.

2. The Character -: Both of the protagonist give me a vibe of the characters of The kite runner book. It's always mesmerizing to read the story of friendship. Many a times there's not much of a feeling presented with the characters. But in this book all of those things were totally different. There are such a well developed characters that they nearly feel like real life characters. Everything about the characters was out together in a way that most of the time it almost felt like a real life story. With that the characters are filled with all the emotional and sentiments that you'll found yourself connected with them throughout your read.

3. The Language -: The book is presented in a simple and easy to understand language. Writer has used many local words in the story.

4. The Narration -: The book is 600+ pages long. I've found many books this long loses it's pace in between due to poor narration but talking about this book, the writer has kept the narration slow simple and that you'll find yourself as a part of this journey. There's no extra material in the story which kept the narration more fast paced without any hindering. Author has only focused on building a good story with an easy and fluid narration which has totally worked out.

Things I didn't like -:

1. I felt writer should not have included some of the character & stories around them in the story which could have made the book a bit shorter as it took me 4 days to finish it so many of us may start quitting the book in between although I believe no one will do that as the story is too gripping to be left in between.

Final Thoughts -: This was simply one of the best book I've read this year. Everything about this book is mesmerizing, the story, the characters , the narration, the theme, everything. You'll surely get to know about lot of things while reading this book which will make your book reading experience even better.
Definitely recommend to everyone.

Rating -: 4.5/5 🌟

Thank you, BookNerds, for the review copy.

The Jehlum Boys is primarily based on two friends, Nishant and Mudassir, and how one night of frenzy drastically changes their lives. Based in Jammu, Kashmir, Pakistan, Delhi, and the US, this is a sprawling story about love, loss, friendship, redemption, and hope.

The story starts with Nishant and Mudassir's childhood, and from the get-go, the author, Mr. Prashant, manages to grip the reader. Using short paragraphs and simple, lucid prose, the narrative flows at a good pace, tagging the reader along. Sometimes, though, the prose and dialogues get colloquial and cheesy, the humor is forced, and the frequent use of high-fives between friends is a tad annoying.

However, despite those minor lapses, the plot construction is immaculate. The story is captivating, with its numerous twists and turns. Everything is planned with precision, and almost every interaction with a character is pivotal to the plot. The story successfully delves into the serious themes of terrorism, religious and political turmoil, and displacement.

The characters are also sketched well. They have their share of flaws, but they are mostly relatable and worth rooting for. My favorite relationship is the one between Nishant and Bansilal. It is relatable, touching, and inspirational. One particular scene even brought tears to my eyes. It was so emotional and well-written.

The protagonists, Nishant and Mudassir, are likable. Their delightful friendship is heartwarming and memorable. However, in some scenes, Nishant is portrayed as too heroic (e.g., the office brawl and the Maulvi slapping scene), making the scenes filmy and unrelatable. Apart from those couple of scenes, I enjoyed their journeys right until the end.

The language is simple, and the descriptions are vivid, especially the lush landscapes of Kashmir. However, I did find a few grammatical and punctuation errors here and there. One round of light editing would have ironed them out.

Overall, I enjoyed The Jehlum Boys. It is a gripping, well-told story that explores important themes and does justice to them.

4 stars from my side.

Wow, The Jehlum Boys by Prashant Pandita totally blew me away! 😍 It’s this super emotional story about two besties, Nishant and Mudassir, growing up along the stunning Jhelum River in Kashmir. Their friendship is so heartwarming, like a warm hug, but then the crazy conflict in the region flips their world upside down. It’s a total rollercoaster of feels that had me hooked from page one!

🎢The plot follows these boys as one wild night changes everything, tearing them apart. Nishant ends up in a dusty refugee camp in Jammu before chasing dreams in the US, while Mudassir’s stuck navigating life in Pakistan. The way it shows their struggles, from loss to rebuilding their lives, is just beautiful. It’s packed with drama, action, and so much heart that kept me glued!

💖I loved the characters so much, they felt like real people! Nishant’s all about ambition and chasing his goals, while Mudassir’s fighting to survive in a tough world. Side characters like Brijnath, Advika, and Shyama add such cool vibes, grounding the story in family and loyalty. That line, “Tell Mudassir to hang on… Nishant is coming,” gave me legit chills and had me tearing up! 🥹Pandita’s writing is so easy to dive into, perfect for literally anyone. The Kashmir scenes, with its lush valleys and tense camps, feel so vivid, it’s like you’re walking through them. It’s a long read, but every page pulls you in with its raw emotion and gripping story. I couldn’t put it down, no joke! 📚✨

This book’s got it all—friendship, hope, and real-world stuff that hits hard. It made me cry, cheer, and pray for a sequel to see where these boys go next! If you want a story that sticks with you and makes you feel everything, grab this one ASAP. I’m giving it 5 stars, hands down! ⭐⭐⭐⭐️⭐️

The Jhelum Boys - Prashant @prashant_pandita

To begin with I know it’s a story of two boys. A kashmiri pandit and a Muslim both are based in kashmir. Generally if I tell you just this plot with all the kashmir stories and movies around either you will expect something on the similar lines or you will expect the cliche. But when you start reading this one it will amaze you at every page and every chapter. It was 2 day read for me and I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story.

The story is heavy and through the conversations between the characters a lot of learnings are offered about life. The characters and the plots are so well drafted by the author that it immediately transports the reader to them. The book is filled with drama and is a fast paced one like a blockbuster movie. The language used by the author is simple with a little local touch which makes the read a lot more interesting. Also a page of glossary is added at the end for the convenience of all readers. The books ends on a note which can easily lead to a sequel and I strongly wish for one because I really want to know more about the boys on why’s their future journey like. There are many quotes in the book but there is one that I would love to mention which stayed with me and that is “Remember, life is under no obligation to meet our expectations but we are always obliged to keep it thriving”
It’s a blockbuster read and irrespective of what genres you like The Jhelum Boys will make you fall in love with their story.

'No size is bigger than the size of your courage and conviction.'

An emotional and action-packed tale of a friendship between two kashmiri boys.
Nishant and Mudassir are the best duo in the school. During the riots in Kashmir, they get separated when Nishant's family escapes to India. Nishant feels betrayed when his friend does not come to his aid in the time of need.

They lead two different lives in two different worlds. But when the circumstances left Mudassir stuck in Pakistan, allah sends Nishant to rescue.
'Only a Nishant can bring Mudassir back'

Likes:
- This book gave me 'The Kite Runner' vibes a little.
- I liked that the lives of both the characters is narrated.
- I loved the characters-Nishant, Mudassir, Jamal, Murali, Nishant's friends, The little girl, Nishant's uncle.
- This book is also filled with lot of emotions and some lessons.
- I am not completely aware of Kashmir's history, but this story is so sad.

Dislikes:
Nothing much to dislike in story but here are some observations
- The writing in first half felt normal and then it felt more of indian accent.
- The cover of the book is little off. I observed most readers tend to attract to covers, including me.
- There are some typos and errors in the kindle version.
- I don't know if this is app's fault or file's fault but it kept going 10-20 pages back everytime I take a break or tap to navigate through pages.

I would recommend this book to everyone. If you read and liked The Kite Runner, then you will love this for sure.

As they say, the friendships that have been developed and nurtured during the childhood are something that have a deep impact on any individual’s life as they are what that have witnessed the phases that nobody else has.

Also, childhood friends are the ones who accept our true selves, they are those who teach us how to be comfortable in our own skin and there is never a single moment where there is a need to pretend.

Exploring such strong bond between two friends is the book, ‘The Jehlum Boys’ which encompasses the journey of our main protagonists who encounter a lot of ups and downs, yet both are resilient and ready to face whatever that is being thrown at them.

It was the first month of the year 1990 when the lives of two friends, Mudassir and Nishant completely changed forever and everything that they had known just vanished and what was left was the pieces for them to keep holding on.

The longing, the pining, the yearning of these two boys when they are separated, the relief when they finally reunite, but the anxiety about what will happen next was all so palpable.

We all have a general idea about what went down in Kashmir, however only the person who has been through all those experiences can pen down such a gut wrenching story, so kudos to the author for bring such an emotional turmoil that is bound to bring tears to any reader. I am going to give this book FIVE STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

BOOK REVIEW
BOOK - THE JEHLUM BOYS
AUTHOR - PRADHANT PANDITA
GENRE - FICTION

I have always wanted to read about Kashmiri pandits and their exodus from the land which was their home. I'm equally intrigued about the condition of people in Kashmir. This book is a perfect blend of both told from the point of view of two kids.

A story of friendship, separation, pain, impact of politics and fights on the lives and destinies.

The protagonists of the book are Nishant and Mudassir. Nishant being a Kshmiri Pandit is sent to a refugee camp in Jammu.

Mudasir is broken and misses his friend. But is told to hand on as Nishant is coming. .

Nishant goes to USA and does his college education. But Mudassir ends up in Pakistan.

Will Nishant and Mudassir ever meet ?

The language gives the vibe of the local lingo and is refreshing. There are several other characters in the book like Senthil, Murali, Ruhail , Shyama and Jamal who add lot of character and weightage to the book with their friendship.

There were several emotional moments in the book and the ending was touching. After reading this book, I'm inclined to dive deep into several issues which have always haunted me but I could not give time to. I thank the author for such a wonderful book. The language is simple and this one is a page turner. I urge one and all to read this book both to understand the situation as well as to enjoy the literary beauty. Grab this one

What intrigued me was the title.. Being a resident of Jehlum River bank, reading the book became inevitable. Started with apprehension but ended with lot of contentment. The moment i read the word "Kharanhenda", there was an immediate connect and simultaneously began reminiscing my school / college days. Though a cuss word, it was used in such abundance amongst friends that at times it used to slip out of mouth even at home and you could feel the stern looks from elders. Enough on the word...
To me, the book is well written, when you start asking 'What happens next' and trust me, every page of this book is like that. Each chapter, be it blossoming friendship, the exodus, the migration camp time, professional college, life in US and the grand finale is a story in itself. Each character in the book has a definite role. While Brijnath & Shyama are responsibility, Bansilal is a guide, Advika & Sumaira are the much needed support systems, Murali, Senthil Sameer and Ruhail depict trust & friendship and Jamal & Khanzada are epitome of loyalty...
Now coming to the goosebumps moment in this saga... "tell Mudassir to hang on.. Nishant is coming". For me it was equivalent to "Mere paas Maa hai" from movie Deewar.
I can go on and on and on. to sum it up.. i have fallen in love with this story and intend to read it again.. just to relive my time spent near Jehlum.

▶A nail-biting thriller that thrives on friendship and divides

◾️ Insights: The Jehlum Boys is the story of Nishant and Mudassir, their lives divided by tensions and larger political disputes in a historically disputed land-Kashmir. The author has been able to narrate the different instances and circumstances from what seems like a first-hand experience; engaging the reader in layers of drama and emotions. There is a usage of local diction, experiences and also details of the lives of Kashmiri Pandits, a subject of high volatility raised by the release of a recent movie in the same perspective.

◾️ REVIEW: The Jehlum Boys is a captivating read, it keeps the reader hooked on till the end because the background of the narrative is extremely promising and delivers high notch value in terms of opening up a window to a completely new perspective. Because the book ceases to become preachy at any point, the message is hard-hitting and impactful at all points in the story.

◾️ STRENGTH: - Simple language, easy to comprehend and relate to; provides a lot of education on the culture of Kashmir

◾️Drawbacks: It is a long read, will not interest readers who are looking for quick easy weekend reads

◾️ TARGET READERS: Fiction lovers

◾️AGE GROUP: Young Adults

◾️ GENRE: Contemporary Thriller

◾️ RATING: 4.4/5

So the book the Jehlum boys by Prashant Pandita was the book which i started few days back.I finished it recently anf now i want ti share my experience via this post.

The book is an amazing read.To be very very honest i was somewhere doubtful to start this book. The book is a read of 667 pages which is a lot for me but you know the story is something which catches the vibe instantly.

The book is a long read yet its very gripping. The story is backed by the strong characters right from the start. The narration done by the author is very captivating. He has explained and written in detail many things.

The refuge camp part was something which gave me goosebumps. The lives of J&K people is something very dicey. It gives me chills everytime when i read about them. The terrorism is at its peak and thinking about this thing leaves me in horror.

The book is a great read.It gives the overall vibe of everything.

The book is a great read with an amazing narration done by the author. The language of writing is very simple and lucid. The book is powerful about the plot.

Though, the cover could have been little better. Also, the page length of this book could have been little less.It feels a lot in description.

An amazing and highly recommended book!

What a fantastic and such brilliantly written book 👌

Story of teenage bestifriends Mudassir and Nishant who are inseparable until that fateful day when the tension in Kashmir separate them for years.

Nishant is disheartened that Mudassir never came to help him when his family had to leave their house and live in tents for years, he was about lose his faith and path but a mentor comes in life like a guardian angel Bansi kaka and shows him correct path.

Whereas Mudassir is lost in his world and is trying to find happiness and new path but unfortunate situations leads him to Pakistan and have made many enemies who are waiting to kill him.

Nishant is only hope to get him back. But will Nishant go lengths to get Mudassir and leave his well settled life?? Will the Jehlum Boys reunite??And why didn't Mudassir came that night to help Nishant's family??

A very fast pacing thriller book with very interesting characters tells you the story of kashmir and these two best friends without any preaching or exaggeration. The book will keep you hooked till the last page and I can assure that you will love every bit of it.

I strongly feel this book should be converted into a web series it will be absolutely crazy.

Civil and international wars are both terrible. They dismembered people. Friends become adversaries. It is tough to distinguish between fear and dear during this terrible period. Every century, a few callous people rise up and enjoy conflict, breaking every heart. a gap that none can fill.
Two close friends, one a Muslim and the other a Hindu, are the centre of the Jehlum boys' world. These kinds of friendships really exist. They are loved, yet conflicts like these tear them apart. The conflict between Mudassir and Nishant is brutal, chilling, and unforgettable.
Ever read a narrative that read like a movie yet was still completely compelling? A narrative with a predictable ending but great entertainment value?
The Jehlum Boys is the title of the novel, which tells the tale of two buddies. It is clearly demonstrated how misunderstandings are caused by both faiths and society.
The writing for the characters is exquisite.
All of the characters' friendship relationships are depicted in a very lovely way.
This narrative is distinctive.
I won't state that this book will be unique by different.
The storyline is not original. It can also be predictable at points, yet the book's writing style is considerably different, such that it makes it intresting to read

Tbh, It's been a long time since I've read a good book which brought me back to wherever i leave it not to just finish it but to really enjoy it . I loved this book
The plot is good
The pace is good
There were no unnecessary characters and character profiling.
There was nothing forcefully inserted in the book.

Personal feelings while reading the book be like
"How different are we even though we all seem similar and how similar are we even though we seem different "

The first thing I did was search for the pronunciation of jehlum in Google.

Best thing about the book : The pace - Exactly the right amount of descriptive'ness'. It was NOT boring at any place.
Personalities of characters.

There was nothing i disliked .
But if I can change something about it, it would be the relationship between Nishant and his girlfriend because i felt like it didn't add anything to the otherwise interesting storyline. Or maybe it's just me because every other character in the book were relatively well profiled.

Who should read this book?
Duh! Everyone who loves fiction. Everyone who loves movies should read it.

Personal note
I want this book made into a movie 🎥🍿

The Jhelum Boys by Prashant Pandita is a beautiful and emotional tale of the friendship of Nishant and Mudassir, two young boys who are inseparable until the day when the tension in Kashmir puts their lives in completely different directions.

The book is emotionally packed and brings you closer to the Kashmiri culture and the life of people there. The use of some local words adds flavour to the story and enhances the reading experience. I liked how well the author described the relationship the two boys had with each other and how, due to the tensions in the state, they both grew up with different ideologies.

How the story is shaped ensures that you are hooked from the beginning. The details used by the author help you visualise the story as you read it. Each character has a role in taking the story forward, and all fit well in the broader scenario.

The relatability comes from the theme of friendship and separation and the longing to be reunited. It is always an experience to read stories set in Kashmir and The Jhelum Boys delivers that unique experience to the readers.

📕 Book Review 📕

Prashant Pandita is the author of the book The Jhelum Boys. The title and the cover of the book is intriguing. The storyline, as per the name, deals with the resident of Jehlum River bank.

The storyline and the word titled "Kharanhenda", made me establish a connection with my school and college lives.

The plot and the storyline is beautifully crafted. Every single page is a perfect reflection of friendship, withdrawal, professionals lives. United States is major decision in the book.

The protagonists of the book Brijnath & Shyama play a major role. There is also a guide in the book named Bansilal. Loyalty is another major theme in the book and this is depicted via the characters Jamal & Khanzada.

The turning point in the storyline will leave you devasted. The summary is simple yet captivating. Jhelum and the storyline in association with Jhelum is worth reading

Not gonna lie but I was hooked from the beginning and this book was page turner for me. I didn't even realized I've reached end of the book I'm less than 4 hours! It was such a well written with good addictive plot.

The story is about two young kashmiri boys and best friends Nishant and mudassir , who gets separated due to Hindus exodus situation and passage of time. The time passes , they both grow up and found themselves in different countries. And when they find each other again , I was so surprised , shocked and sad to find out about struggles and tragedies they went through to reach where they are now.

Not only the main characters but the side character and all the other characters casting was very diverse and interesting. The last few chapters are so detailed and vividly written. This book focuses on the torture and everything Kashmiri pandits went through during 1990s.

So if you enjoyed watching Kashmir files movie than I'll definitely recommend you this book!

Wars, be it civil or world, are worst. They tore people apart. Friends turn into enemies. During this horrific time, one finds it difficult to distinguish between dear and fear. Some heartless humans in every century rise and relish war, creating a hole in every heart. A hole one can never fix.

Jehlum boys revolve around two tight friends one a Muslim while the other a Hindu. Friendships like these exist. They are cherished but wars like these break apart it. Mudassir and Nishant face a cold, gruesome and unforgettable war.

The two boys drift apart and choose their own path holding grudges against each other.
The book makes one's heart sad and also curious as to what can lead to such a mess.

The writing style is fine. The book is medium paced with twist and turns. Though, I have a few questions in mind which the book failed to answer. The story led me to those questions. In a nutshell, it is a good book if you wish to read about a war.

After watching The Kashmir Files (movie) I was really disappointed what was going on with kashmiri pandits but this story depicts the hidden feels that other people might not recognize, the feeling of true friendship.
It doesn't see any religious boundary, but when it comes to the religional riots, the friendship could become a tough nut.
This story is about two friends, Nishant and Mudassir. Being from 2 different religions, things got really worse between them when kashmiri pandits started getting killed.
Nishant and his family fleed to refugee camp whereas Mudassir ended up in Pakistani training camp. How these 2 friends unite once again, is really worth looking for in this book.
I loved the way the story is plotted and the emotions of the characters.
Moreover, there were unnecessary scenes included in this book which made the book lengthier which ultimately disturb the reading. Overall, a great story with great theme. Highly recommended.

The story is based in early 90's when political turmoil reached its zenith. It revolves around two young friends - Nishant and Mudassir who lived in kashmir.
Destiny played its role only for them to end up as two different personality with contrasting idealogies. Nishant goes in Refugee in kashmir while Mudassir chooses terrorism as his future.
This book is a bright ray of hope. It shows how friendship can mask all the dark happenings. Politics and hatred may strain a relation but if the bond is strong enough it will sail through all the difficult times
such is the story of Nishant or Mudassir.
Personally enjoyed each and every page of the book. All the characters are written in a very matured way.
language is easy flowing
setting of the story in kashmir visually increases the aesthetic appeal of the writing.

•The pace of the story is good
•The book has the characters which can be easily related
