The Dazed

Rate this book
No one plans on being widowed at thirty-one years old. Leo Algar certainly didn't. Yet that is where he found himself on a Saturday afternoon in late September.

As the funeral ends and people around him return to their normal lives, Leo finds himself immersed in his grief, unsure of how to function in his old life without her.

And while the months tick by, Leo finds himself spending more time in the past than the present. A past that reminds him of what he had. A past that reinforces the reality of what it is he has lost.

I’m reeling with the after-effects of an emotional story. Death is not easy and reading this story was difficult. I read the Version Of Me series to know what to expect but it still felt I was not prepared for what actually came. Where other books in the series were highly intense, this one is more emotional but subtly so. Jennifer writes so well and brought this story to come alive with each word, with each passing page. I love her more and more with every book of hers.

Leo was just as kind, loving, emotional as I thought he would have been in his life. It’ll not be wrong to say that he surpassed my expectations. The story starts emotionally, ends emotionally but we get to see a lot of glimpses from Leo and Natalie's happy moments. Knowing you’ll die in a few months, is horror in itself but knowing you’ll leave everyone behind with the ache of loss is even more unthinkable. But even in this hard phase, Natalie thought about Leo’s life after her, about how to help him live without her, it shows the strength of her character. And if I personally knew someone like that, it’ll be a hard loss for me too.
