Since the moment Imani Prince joined the Grand High Vampires’ legion, she’s been drawn to the self-assured and darkly sexual Robert ‘Butch’ Richardson. Although he walked away from her a year ago after a short fling, she doesn’t judge him for his difficulties with relationships. But now he’s in her space, declaring that he wants her back and regrets his earlier mistakes. While Imani’s past is trying to interfere with the present and the threat of a war is looming, she has to decide whether to give him what he’s demanding: all she has to give.

Butch has always struggled to connect with people, but something about the sensual and independent Imani pulls at him until she’s become an obsession that he simply can’t shake. But she was with another male, and watching them together was agonizing. When that relationship ends, Butch makes his move. Now he has to convince her to take a second chance on him, and he won’t leave her alone until she does. As far as he’s concerned, Imani’s his and has always been his. He just needs to make her see that.

Warning: This book contains sarcasm, sexual scenes, a female with attitude, and an alpha male who has a problem with the word 'no'.

Re-read 15th - 17th February 2019

Re-read 14th - 16th July 2018

I've really enjoyed this series, yes I've had a few issues mainly with the constant recapping but overall this has been a good read.
This book follows the exact same pattern as the previous ones the only difference being the main characters and the villain. This one features Butch and Imani as they have a second try at romance while fighting for the safety of the Hollow.
The story here is interesting plus we have dragons, you can never go wrong with dragons.

I absolutely love Sam and Jared and the whole squad they've built around them and I hope at some point the author continues on with this series.

I gave three stars because there are dragons. I am in the pro-dragons category.

Yeah, ninjas are good too..

So, we have another alpha asshole, Butch. He has always been the guy who everyone thinks is a sociopath, and I had high hopes that he would be super awesome once you got to know him. Not the case. He's okay after a while, but a bit of a dud personality. All he has going for him is that he is protective. Well, my dog is protective too, but I don't know if she would make a good book hero. Actually, my dog has a better personality than Butch. Maybe she should be a book hero...yeah... with dragons and ninjas and lasers and shit. (note to self - write book someday).

Butch and Imani had a fling almost a year prior and he told her he wasn't a commitment kind of guy, so she moved on. She got another boyfriend for 7 months and then they broke up. Butch now informs her that he has decided that they belong together and so they will be. *sigh*

"I moved on, Butch. You can't come to me now and expect me to just fall right in line because you've decided that, hey, you'be changed your mind."

"I can. And I just did."

So, here's a couple of things I have a problem with, aside from simply the homicidal rage that the asshole-alpha trope gives me:

When we get the alpha making a declaration that the girl belongs to him, he never actually has to charm or make any effort at all whatsoever toward making the girl fall for him. He simply says "you belong to me" and then starts ordering her around, taking over her life, and having sex where he makes her beg. I really don't feel like any self-respecting woman on earth would fall for this shit. Some guy you met shows up at your house, pushes you against a wall and tells you that you are now his possession, then proceeds to tell how "things are going to be", and you accept that? No. You kick him in the balls, call the cops and get this guy for assault and possibly stalking charges. So, yeah, I want the hero to have to adhere to at least some of our socially accepted ways of winning over a mate. He should be the beggar - not the beggee!

See? Mr. Spider has the right idea! Gifts are always a good way to go.

Secondly, I want to watch a couple fall in love in my book. That was part of the fun in the first three books about Sam and Jared. We watched them fall in love in the first book, and then watched their relationship grow in the next two. I feel a lot more invested in their relationship than I do in the following two because I witnessed the whole thing. Jared was an alpha, and he started out an ass, but we got to see him develop into the great guy that he is now. It felt like he deserved Sam by the time they got together. Butch did nothing to deserve Imani other than change his mind that he wanted a relationship.

Mr. Squarepants doesn't get it. Much like Butch.

If there is going to be another book in this series, maybe Max and Paige, I really hope that it goes back to being a story where we get to watch them flirt and fall in love, and the guy is going to be charming instead of just a presumptuous ass. Butch had all the charm of a pretzel stick. Not even the bendy kind of pretzel. Just a plain, unsalted pretzel stick.

Finally made it to the last book in the series and it was Action packed and Fabulous!!

Imani Prince

description

I did not expect to enjoy Imani's story but when has Suzanne Wright ever let me down.
Imani was great...her male Butch was just OK...but acceptable.

This had plenty of Action sprinkled with a little more drama than I typically care for. But the drama and the lackluster hero didn't ruin it.

The first 3 books of this series featuring Sam and Jared were freaking awesome. Books 4 and 5 were still very enjoyable but not as spectacular.

Another amazing work by Suzanne Wright! I loved it!!!

This was such a refreshing read for me, since the latest books weren't exactly what I'd liked them to be. But here we got lots and lots of action with a good portion of romance and of course scorching hot scenes of Blaine and his Imani. I love reading Suzanne's books, since they always have a good plot that involves a big mystery of who the bad guys really are and a well thought out way of how to stop them.

At first I wasn't sure, if a second chance story would work for me, because I usually don't read them, but thankfully it worked out better than I hoped. The double POV also helped a lot. Being in Butch's mind wasn't as weird as I first thought it'd be (since many think of him as a sociopath). It was actually quite pleasant. He really cares for Imani and deeply regrets walking away from her the first time. Now, that he's got her back there's nothing and nobody that could take her away from him. Only over his dead body, presuming that he doesn't kill you first. He knows he's not good with expressing his feelings but he does try as best as he can to make Imani believe in him and give him another chance.

description

As for Imani's character, she's a strong woman, who knows her self worth and knows how to make her decisions by herself and not under the influence of others. I found it really shity how her and Butch's friends acted after she gave him another chance. They made it all about themselves and didn't think about Imani's feelings at all. Ava, Salem, Sam and Jared were the exception, tho.

What surprised me the most is that all the OW drama didn't bother me at all. That being said, the OM drama was another thing.

My thoughts on when Butch and Marco met were like this
description

I loved all the action, romance and sexy scenes. The only question I have is, who's story is next and where is my bloody book?!!!

I’ve enjoyed this series till this one. Jared and Sam will forever be one of my fave couples. I’ve also enjoyed seeing the other legion members find their HEA — till this one that is. One thing I’ve enjoyed is that the Heros knew what they wanted and went for it. They were also FAITHFUL to the heroine even when they weren’t together - they didn’t purse OW once the heroine entered the scene. Sadly that isn’t the case with this one and it’s severely disappointing.
My issue isn’t that they started with a ONS that became a month long stand. It’s the fact that the Hero knew he wanted more with the heroine as soon as they parted ways BUT STILL FUCKED THE REST OF THE FEMALE POPULATION in The Hollow. This doesn’t scream love to me. His plan to give her a month to get over her ex (at least she did move on...however he turned out to be a cheater) and then pursue her still didn’t stop him from screwing OW. Up until the night he decided it was time he was STILL FUCKING AROUND!! He couldn’t even be celibate for one freaking month!!
The heroine wasn’t any better in my opinion. She was spineless and took the Hero back KNOWING what he’s been up to AND knowing he was with OW the night before they got together.
Ultimately my love for Sam and Jared couldn’t make me finish this one....

Book 5 came very close to being my favorite. I loved Butch and his singular focus on making Imani his. What I didn’t like was a few little things that broke me out my happy Butch bubble.

The story starts after their separation and he has decided that he can’t live without Imani. That’s great, but the constant reminder of him and his one night stands during their separation was not great. Also the reaction of all their friends when they decided to get back together seemed to be a bit overboard.

The best thing about this book was how devoted and protective Butch was once he was all in. He was willing to pursue Imani until he had her and that is what I love to see in a hero.

Overall, this series got better with each book but it did seem to be aimed more for a younger audience. There was some immaturity with some of the characters behavior that reminds me of teenagers.

Really enjoyed this one but.....they were no Jared and Sam. I don't think any couple could ever top them. I did like Butch and Imani, they were awesome together. I would have liked it more if she would have refused his advances a bit longer, because well....I'm a vengefull bitch.

What I didn't like, was how things ended with Marco. I was actually very intrigued with his character and I would have liked to read more about him. Hell ...I would have loved a book about him.

I hope there will be a lot more books in this series, because I'm quite addicted to them ;)

I absolutely loved the epilogue about Jared and Sam....these two are just awesome !!

Opening sentence:

Every avid reader knew you didn’t fuck with a girl’s Kindle. So when the bitch in front of me slammed my purse on the floor and I heard my precious baby crack, things were destined to go to shit.

Would you put this book down after you’d read that? No? Thought so. Me neither.

I really enjoyed Imani’s and Butch’s story although I thought that I would like Butch but I really did.
Eleven months ago Butch & Imani spent a month together. All had had high hopes that Butch would connect with Imani. Many call Butch cold, emotionless, ruthless, a sociopath and a natural born killer instincts. But….

Butch didn’t want more and Imani did they were honest about it. We realize why he shies away from a relationship more than the book progresses. Imani is Butch’s opposite a good, and a loyal person, she is funny, kick arse and totally knows what she wants. She thinks that she can lie but she can’t.
“I heard he went to your apartment last night.” I should have remembered that nothing happened on this island stayed a secret for long. “We just talked.” Sam cast me an impatient look. “You know that you are crap at lying, right?” “I can so lie.” Jared snorted. “Um, no, you can’t.” “Well seven of the eight voices in my head say you’re wrong.”

But there is a softer side to him a sweet side to him.

He bought Imani a new Kindle now if that isn’t love then what is, huh ladies?

After the night in the bar he takes care of her.

“I have coffee flavored NSTs. You want one? Or I can fix you something to eat if you want?” offered Butch. I pursed my lips eying him as I slid my feet into my shoes. “You’re being weird.”

Can this be considered to be a second chance romance? To be honest I think no. For me it was fresh and different but maybe it was due to there not being any previous memories/scenes. Butch had several hook ups over that time until it clicked and Imani was in a relationship with a human who betrayed her trust. Everyone has the right to change their mind.

„I’m done waiting for you. “ „What? “ ”I had to watch you with that human for seven months. Seven. Long. Fucking. Months. The only thing that stopped me from hurting him was that he made you happy. But then he didn’t, and now he’s gone. I decided to give you a month to get your head straight before I made a move. That time is up now.”

Butch thinks he isn’t good for people but he had a shite ex who ruined every relationship with the women that he had and he blames himself. Very over protective and would do anything for Imani. He gives Imani what she needs. And time to figure out what she wants. Although Butch changed his mind he more time to come to terms with it. Imani struggles at the beginning.
“If you need some time to wrap your head around everything that I’ve said and accept what I want from you, take it. Three nights, baby.” The most I could give her. “Three nights. Then I’m coming for you and we’ll continue this conversation and lay everything out. But don’t make the mistake of thinking those three nights include freedom. You’re mine. That’s the way it is and that is the way that it is going to stay.
Actually when it came to them having a relationship it was all very grown up they talked about the pros and cons.
In the meantime there is a vampire feeding info about vampires to humans over the internet. There is a secret order. Imani takes the opportunity and her vision features dragons. They will be attacking the Hollow. Fucking A. I smell a new series in the air. Do not disappoint me.
Imani’s former nest, the leader being Lazarus knows about dragons. Imani’s sire is Marco and she was turned without her consent. She is the first born which is an important job but she left as that wasn’t the life she wanted. Marco is obsessed with Imani, he is a sociopath. Lazarus is working on a serum to cure vampirism. While at the nest Imani gets injected with it and just barely survives. Only with the help of Butch, Sam, Jared and Antonio. She gains a new power.

I always wonder how it can be possible for Ms. Wright to top what she has written in her previous books and I am always a happy bunny when she can create something so utterly unique.

The one thing that really needn’t have been added and I felt as if I was in secondary school. There immature to the point of me screaming at them. It was quite ridiculous.
My first reaction to this book was

New Suzanne Wright. Sly Fox. God could've given me a heads up I nearly missed out ;-)

3 Stars!

I loved the last book so much that I knew my expectations would be high for this. Butch and Imani kind of disappointed me because I hate that they were together then broke up and saw other people for a year before they reunited.

However when they did get back together the passion was intense and their love for each other was strong.

"What I think"-he flipped us so that I was beneath him-"is that we should forget about her." He sucked at my pulse, making my inner muscles spasm. "And you should lie there like a good girl while I pound you into the mattress."
"So romantic."
"Ain't it though?"

I didn't like how Imani treated her Sire Marco either.

I'm curious which squad member will be next to get a book! I hope its David :)

Overall not a bad addition to the series, and one I for the most part enjoyed.

Imani overall as a character I really did like, when her and Butch are first together, she is strong enough to walk away with no bitterness when she realises, he doesn’t want a serious relationship/commitment. I can see why she may have gotten back together with him, BUT

Butch was ok, but my heart wasn’t aflutter even minutely, rather I was thinking why, why? I was expecting much more. In all honesty I wasn’t a fan of Butch, . That being said this didn’t peeve me of to the extent I thought it would – I didn’t want to DNF it.

Also, I wasn’t overly keen on what happened to Marco – I actually would have enjoyed more of him as a character. I wanted to see how he could develop (although I do wish he didn’t have a thing with the two vamps he Sired – those women were just ick).

A nice read but the book remains my least favourite in the series – I know I will re-read this at some point, but not as prolifically as the others and Butch will always be a lacklustre main character for me.

4.5 stars!

Suzanne Wright is, without a doubt, my comfort author. Slipping back into the worlds she creates is like slipping on a warm, cozy pair of my favorite pajamas. I know that no matter what I'm going to have fun. I know that I'm going to laugh and swoon and love every minute of it. I've yet to be disappointed by anything she writes and I can't see that happening any time soon, since she is the Queen of protective, possessive, hot as fuck alphaholes and fierce, independent women (which just so happens to me my SHIT).
Throw in some vampires, mystical / magical powers of all varieties, dragons and a huge heaping of spice and tension... I'm sorry, but what else could you possibly need?

It was a fair read. The only problem I had with this story is I'm not a fan if H&H getting together and then splitting up with sleeping and dating other people in between. Leaves a slightly bitter taste in ones mouth. Other than that It was a good read.

Re-read Nov. 2020
Fractured is the second “spinoff” and follows Butch and Imani. Butch has been around since Here Be Sexist Vampires; he’s guarded, and emotionally unavailable, and a "nail and bail" type of guy. We met Imani in Taste of Torment when her and Paige came to the Hallow to heal/transfer “the call” virus from Sam, Evan, Max, etc. and ended up staying. Coming in she had been portrayed kinda wimpy-ish always hiding behind Paige. Thankfully, she gets a personality reboot and becomes a slightly mellower version of the standard kickass S.W. heroine.

This one picks up one year after the end of Consumed. We know from the blurb that the two hooked up for a month, but Imani broke up when Butch didn’t want more. This all happens off-page, and is handled very maturely (no drama awkwardness and Imani went on to date another) which made his/her friends’ reactions confusing. It seemed very believable to me that Butch after realizing too late that he had real feelings for her would be “all in” after watching from the sidelines for a year. 🤷‍♀‍🤷‍♀‍

Their reaction was a bummer because it removed most of the secondary characters for a large hunk of the book then all was forgiven when Imani was hurt which felt like a waste. It also made all the girls (except Sam & Ava) look like judgmental bitches, and the men (except Jared, David & Salem) look like gossipy women. Thankfully they get over themselves around the 50% mark so the last ½ picks up….and there’s an epic battle with 🐉🐉!!

The sex scenes are steamy, and Butch is totally alpha in the bedroom. I bet she was writing the Burn books at the same time, because Salem, Butch and Knox are all cut from the same cloth. My only real complaint, and this is nitpicky, but it does bother me when authors don’t keep track of their plot details throughout their series. I guess I figure, if I can catch it, how can’t the creator?? For instance, in Consumed it’s mentioned that some powerful demons can control the flames of hell and it leaves a red residue which is left all over the place, but in the series, Knox is the only one, (controls flames of hell) and he guards that secret so he’s not leaving residue all over the place. He’d use hellfire. Also, Wes (Antonio’s sire’s mate is Lena, but in Taste of Torment she’s referred to as Leona. Here she's back to Lena. In Here Be Sexist Vampires, we’re told Damien is the fastest on the squad, but here Butch is.

Bottom Line- Another solid read by S.W.. It ended with a hint of a Paige/Max matchup, but it’s been 5 years, and honestly, I thought Paige acted like a total twat so at the moment…I don’t really care about her story. Alora/ Evan or even the hinted Keeley/David would be better. As you can tell by my character notes, she saturates her books with characters, and constantly adds new names to keep up with, but she’s a master at leaving breadcrumbs that could potentially start a new series. Like I would love to see one with Andres the dragon shifter alpha, because we really didn’t get much backstory.

Character notes. These won’t all fit into the notes section, and it’s too much for me to keep straight without having it down somewhere. Also, if she ever comes back to the series… I’ll be ready. 😂

Butch and Imani has been attracted to each other from the moment she set foot in The Hollow. But after a short fling, Imani leaves Butch because she wants a relationship, and he’s incapable of being in one. And for almost a whole year Butch has to see Imani with someone else, and because he believed her to be happy, he endure the agony of being without her, watching her with another man. But then the relationship ends, and Butch knows this is his second chance at having a future with Imani, and he wasn’t going to let her go again.

“If you need some time to wrap your head around everything I’ve said and accept what I want from you, take it.Three nights, baby.” That was the most I could give her.“Then I’m coming for you,and we’ll continue this conversation and lay everything out.But don’t make the mistake of thinking those three nights include freedom. You’re mine. That’s the way it is,and that’s the way it’s gonna stay.”

I’m not a fan of second chance romances, but the one thing I did appreciate here was that Imani didn’t pine away for Butch after their fling ended. She moved on and had a relationship with someone else. And I loved that Butch pursued Imani so aggressively once she was single again, and that he had realised what a big mistake he made before.

I really liked Butch and Imani together. Their chemistry was intense and so very sexy. I loved how dominating Butch was, and how possessive and protective he was with Imani. Obviously the rest of the squad, and especially Imani’s friends weren’t happy that they were together again, thinking that Butch would hurt Imani like before. But not once did Butch waver in his intentions towards Imani, and he quite spectacularly stood up for Imani and for their relationship, putting her friends quite rightly in their places, because even though the way they were acting was because they worried for Imani, the way they did this was totally uncalled for and immature.

Butch was fantastic. I love a broken hero with an alpha personality, and Butch was so very sexy. And the more he revealed to Imani about himself and about his past, I understood more his reasons for believing himself incapable of having a successful relationship. It was so sweet and so sad how he worried that he might do something that would cause Imani to leave him, and I loved how Imani assured him that she was there to stay, and that nothing would make her leave him.

She shook her head. “I’ve said it before, and I’ll keep saying it until you believe it: I’m here for good.”
“I know you are, because you don’t have the option of leaving me.”

Imani was just awesome. I love the way Suzanne Wright writes her heroines. They are so snarky and so kick-ass. Nothing gets them down, especially not their men’s Neanderthal tendencies. They give as good as they get, and the banter was just wonderful. And Imani loves her kindle, so I could totally relate to her ;-)

This series is amazing. I only started reading it this year, and I’ve already reread it 3 times, which just shows how much I love it. The world-building is great, and I adore all the characters.

I would recommend this series to anyone who loves kick-ass, sarcastic heroines; slightly broken, alpha heroes; very sexy and hot romance; and a fun and action-packed plot.

Fractured...

description

Oh, boy. I don't like having to write this review because for me, Suzanne Wright has been probably the only self publishing authors I will ever own up to liking. But, I can't seem to find anything good about the recent books released in this series.

description

Honestly, I truly think this series should have ended after the second book. That is where I feel that this series went downhill for me. It's actually confusing since her other series, the "Phoenix Pack" and the "Mercury Pack,” has regained its former sparkle with the last two book releases.

This series hasn't been stellar for a read for me. I've found it almost juvenile in a sense. Oh there is a plot and world build is fantastic still. But predictable? I find it to juvenile, and I hate having to use that word here.

For me these pairing up couples are exactly the same (Exception for only Ava). The males in these leading roles are not standing out in anyway. They are exactly the same in demeanor, in almost every part of their DNA. I realize that they all have to be super superior because there in the legion and stuff, but their personalities and behaviors are not standing out from the rest of that group in anyway.

There is also the common bad girl character entering this series that also doesn't make them any different from the last ones. They're always in each book one of these book and behave and act the in exactly the same way. You can almost expect what is coming and what effects will come of them.

This book went a little sideways for me though. The actions of these females did a 180 turn that really doesn't fit. I already had ill issues with the Instant-Friendship and devoted loyal backing that they displayed in the last book, and it only adds to that juvenile vibe I get from these vampires, whose ages should have matured beyond this type of behavior.

It's almost as if these characters are taking on a more immature nature and not the vampiric I'd except to read about. I just don't like it.

Sam was great. And I find I like spunk - not to be confused with brat-ish immature responses and behaviors that are often written in for a characters now a days. Sure there was a little bit of unnecessary behavior (like how in the beginning she rudely interrupted the Grand Guy Antonio to insert "How many times do I have to tell you" line). I could over look that. But now? I just can't get over this over superior cockiness that is present in these books.

Anyway. I don't know if I will continue on with this series. But there's hope. Like I said in the beginning, her last two books she released had been better then the two prior it them. I almost left that series back then. So I do have hope.

description

But that still doesn't save this book for me. I hate to admit this but at 44 % into it, I'm going to put it down for a while and walk away. And I really hate having to admit that.

Great sequel for another awesome couple! :D

Just like all books by Suzanne Wright, this one's action packed and VERY, VERY humorous!!!

I love just how the main characters got together. It wasn't abrupt and it was believable. They complement each other and I love that about them. When Butch is becoming very overbearing, Imani just shuts him up and levels with him. Imani on the other hand, seems to need a physical protector because she's the weaker one. Don't get me wrong, I think she has her own strengths, but in battle, she really needs Butch. In turn, they're perfect for one another.

Now about the plot... Suzanne Wright once again, incorporates the modern world with the internet, the blogs etc. with the paranormal world and it's just stupendous! Both squads obviously wanted action, so that's what they got! Action to the nth level and.. GET THIS... DRAGONS!!!!! OMG!!! The mysteries are present and the thrill factor would not go unnoticed! I think Suzanne Wright's PNR world just got broader!

I just have one teeny tiny problem. I wanted to be enlightened about one character in particular.. MARCO. I think his character deserved a little more justification. I wanted to learn just why he did what he did from start to finish.

Nevertheless, I still think that this book is great! I have never disliked a book by SW and I'm not about to start now. :)

Read this series if you still haven't, people!!!

5th book in the series Deep in your Veins by Suzanne Wright, Fractured

This one is about Butch and Imani. Butch one of the member of the Personal Squad of the Grand High Pair and if you read the Taste of Torment you’ll have an idea who Imani is.

Good thing about this book/series are the plots are different from the other books. Some of you may have different opinion from me but I like that this one is about 2nd chances. Butch and Imani may not start as what we’ve all wanted and the pacing on the first part was a little slow but still all the elements to have me entranced on this book were there.

Butch same as Salem is bordering psychopath while Imani has a unique ability. New characters were introduced, the dragon shifters. Again the series are still action-packed with fighting with the dragons and protecting the Hollow.

I just wished a different ending for Marco and more special appearance of Sam and Jared

Another great book from Suzanne Wright and hope to read more.

Butch had so much potential, was looking forward to his story but i hated him from the start .lets not even talk about Imani. This one is just full of hypocrisy, Hypocrisy with a capital C. Marco's death was plain unnecessary, it was like everyone turned into entitled bullies.. anyone outside of the Royal Crowd has become worthless. From what i can tell, the rest of the pairing is going to be between both squads, no surprising element left....though i hope i am wrong.

Quick(ish) Review

I like that this 5th book in the series managed to give me some excitement while still working within the tried and true formula - alpha vampire, strong heroine who won’t let him get away with shyte. Throw in enough jealousy to keep it interesting, even when you t veers too far into psycho-analyzing the hero’s past, it still managed to keep my attention. The friendships built over the length of the series, in particular the female characters, are my favorite. Overall, glad I read it and waiting for the next one.
