Horizon’s Peak is a national park. During its off-season, the overhang is cut back and the land is tended to by its occupants. It’s an easy enough job before snowfall comes. It’s almost perfect in its tranquility. The quaint and quiet woods are rocked however when a creature descends upon the employees. Now, a trio of hunters lead by Drake Benson must head out and recapture their experiment.
Slithery like a snake, quick as a feline, the creature was created to be the ultimate specimen. They thought they had her and her mate under control. After having escaped her confines, she is put to the ultimate test. Will she grow to understand the outside world or fall victim to it?
Lives will be lost and questions will be thought but the same thing will be on everyone’s minds. Can they survive this?
Limbs by Brian Gatto is a phenomenal creature feature. To start with the plot I thought it flowed perfectly for a Creature Feature. It had a really nice build up to the carnage that would ensue. The characters were all very well fleshed out with backstories as well as feeling real. The gore and carnage is def there and Gatto shows once again that in his books he is not afraid to kill anyone off. The creature while I was skeptical by the cover art is actually really well written and developed. I def liked how it had real intelligence which made it that much more dangerous. I def recommend this one it is honestly up there with Croc Attack for my favorite book from Gatto.
I had such a good time with this one! The creature was fun, the characters were fun, and the setting felt right. There wasn’t a lot of ‘fluff’ to the story just a simple creature feature monster book.
Pros: + characters were fun and fit their roles and included all the players you’d expect in a story such as this + the monster was a great chimera of many many different things + some good blood and guts + creature vision included (if you’re a fan of creature feature movies you’d understand the importance of this)
Cons: - was the creature more sentient than it needed to be? Maybe but it’s not super important - the pet horse dies… - the chimera beast could have used more of its enhancements to add to the horror (particularly the camouflage)
Overall I had an amazing time with this one. Everything from the monster to the humans was a great time. Perfect creature feature ending!

Limbs is the first in the Limbs series and it was an engaging icky bug. The story was decent but the same old same old as with his other books. He writes in third person, past tense but has no point of view at all. Like the previous book I read, it started great with a character per chapter or scene. However as soon as someone else entered the scene it was a mishmash of head-hopping. In the end, I didn’t care or even remember many of the characters and was only interested in seeing what happened. There were a lot of victims, and the resolution of the main story was less than satisfying. This was before the inevitable “what if” which leads to the next installment. Overall, I appreciate the stories but with no characters to root for, it’s just a series of related events.
i got frustrated with this book. WAY to much background into the multitude of people. to bad we didn't get the details on the monster as all the people did. monster really didn't get into it till about 75% into the book.
