I came home to Hawaii to rescue the family business. I had three months to accomplish to task, before heading back to California with my teenage daughter. That was the plan until something happened that ignored the blueprint.
I saw her.
Leilani
He watched me hula. I watched the way his full lips moved when he smiled. There are good reasons not to pursue a relationship right now. But I can’t stop thinking about the single father whose turned my world upside down.
Alek and Leilani danced on beach once long ago. She was four. He was sixteen. Twenty -three years later, their paths crossed again.
Maybe this time it’s for love.
From the Coming Home series, and USA Today’s best-selling author Leslie Pike, comes HULA a standalone novel. Each month, the series will feature a different author and a new release.
This is such a beautiful story of love and family and finding your way home. Alek has come home to Hawaii for a short while, with his daughter Alana, to help his mother with the family business. Then he sees hula dancer Leilani, he is immediately attracted to her, but his plans are to head back to California with his daughter. I loved reading everything Alek and Leilani's journey. The emotions, the Hawaiian traditions, the wonderful characters, each side story, and the surprises. A definite recommended read.
This is a sweet book about family and finding your way home again. There are many side stories going on in this book that just brings it all together and shows how families come together when needed. It is packed with Hawaiian traditions and gives us a glimpse of the beautiful culture.
Alek and his daughter Alana are back in Hawaii for the summer, so many things can happen in a few months. Alek has suffered loss and never expects to find love again but when he spots Leilani he is instantly taken with her. His daughter Alana is growing into her teenage self and has no confidence so he is trying to help her find herself and hopes the new school he has paid a small fortune for will help. Alek's mother is struggling with a bad knee from years of hula and life and the family restaurant is barely surviving. Leilani's brother is recovering from years as an addict and trying to get himself back on track. New friends will become so much more and there are happy surprises throughout.
As you can see there is a lot going on in this book and each side story was great to add to the main love story of Alek and Leilani. Not going to give anything away but the book is about love and family and I enjoyed reading it.
When Alek’s mother and the family business needs help he and his teenage daughter return to Hawaii to assist. While there he reunites with a grown-up Leilani and the sparks fly but is it enough to overcome their very different plans for the future.
Leilani is a hula dancer who knew Alek when they were children who is going through some family complication of her own. There is no denying the chemistry and connection as they realize that what they share is worth fighting for.
This is a romantic story about love and family that is sure to touch your heart.
This story takes you on an adventure in Hawaii. I love the description of the scenery, the flowers , the beach and traditions. I could picture myself being there. Alek returns to Hawaii for the summer to help with the struggling family restaurant. Alek sees Leilani dancing the hula. He remembers her as the pesky little girl that followed him and her brother around. She has grown into a beautiful woman. The developing love story between Alek and Leilani is very romantic. Alek, a single father, is worried about Alana, his young teen daughter, not understanding her moodiness. He's hoping things will change while visiting family. Alana blossomed throughout this story, turning from a sullen, withdrawn girl to a bright, confident, shining star. I recommend this beautifully written a story of love and family and how important it is keeping traditions alive. I was given an ARC by the author an offered my honest review
A beautiful book about coming home made so much more poignant because I recently went to Hawaii on vacation and there is truly nothing like the beauty of the setting and the people there.
In this book, Alek and his daughter Alana, return to hawaii to help his mother recover from some restaurant issues. He meets hula dancer Leilani and it is instant attraction. But he is only there for a limited time- what happens when he has to leave?
A lot of family matters are addressed, especially Ohana or family, matters. And it is beautifully emotional, as the characters deal with generational interactions and changes borne from those interactions. I loved how well thought out the characters were and how, for a shorter book, this felt expansive, with the setting and people integrating perfectly to bring the story to life.
I have to admit, one thing that grated on me a bit is that the writing is very stilted. Sentences are fragments leading to a bit of rockiness. It doesn’t detract from the story and I’m sure it’s just one of my preferences. Otherwise I loved the story and the emotional pull of Coming home…to Hawaii!
This is a beautiful story about love, family and finding your home. Leslie did an amazing job describing the beautiful scenery of where the story took place. I love Hawaii and enjoyed reading about traditions and the culture. My favorite part of the book was when the families came together for dinner and shared stories, got to know each other and immediately became family.
I really love Alek and Leilani’s relationship, the ease, maturity and patience to let things work out the way the are supposed to. Alek is an amazing Dad…watching Alana mature and come to the realization was beautiful.
A wonderful story that I highly recommend. I requested a complimentary copy and I am leaving my honest review.
This was a beautiful coming home love story between Alek and hula dancer, Leilani. Sweet contemporary romance about traditions and surprises. It turned out to be a real page turner and one I would certainly recommend. I received an ARC and I'm leaving this review voluntarily.
Sweet and quick read about coming home and the importance of family. Alek has been raising his teenage daughter since his wife died. His life is in California, but his mother’s business and the help it requires have him going back to Hawaii. He is determined to have things in order and go back within three weeks, but fate has other ideas.
Alek and Leilani, a hula dancer, meet and the sparks are definitely shooting all over the place. Their attraction is instant and neither can help but let it take over despite knowing that things can last. I enjoyed reading how Leilani was able to win over Alek’s family, especially the women he loved.
Vividly descriptive scenes are woven in, making them part of the story like an additional character. Wonderful friends, loving family members, and Hawaiian traditions add to the poignant connection that make this a page turner.
Alek comes back home to Hawaii with his teenage daughter for a brief time, to help rescue the family business. Leilani is a hula dancer, and when Alek sees her, he is instantly attracted to her. What will happen with their romance as he is due to leave? This is a beautifully written story which is sweet, poignant, and with traditions, family, loss, friendships, surprises, and love, which lead to a compelling page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend. I received an advance review copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Alek and Leilani cross paths again when he comes home to help rescue his families restaurant. She knows he watches her hula on the beach. He is captivated by her and doesn't know how they deal with his return to the mainland but is willing to figure it out.
Love Leilani and how she wins over the most important women in Alek's life. Auntie is great and knows how to keep her boys in line. This is a fun, sweet story about finding love and realizing how much you are willing to change your life to make it work. Leslie always brings all the fun and feels to her her work. Love her style and always anxiously awaiting the next book.
Alek is a widowed single dad of a teenage daughter who makes a trip back to his native Hawaii to help his mom for the summer because she is having some issues with her knee and running her restaurant.
Leilani is a single woman in her late 20s, who helps her friend Paula teach some youngsters how to surf.
They meet when Alana is invited by Paula’s daughter to join their group. Alek and Leilani are quickly smitten with each…will they be able to make it knowing Alek has to return back to his life in CA which includes running his own restaurant or is this just a summer fling?? Guess you’ll have to read to find out!!
Hula by Leslie Pike is the swooniest beach read of the summer! Hula is a lovely, low-angst, age-gap romance. Leslie's vivid imagery will whisk you away to beautiful Maui. I could practically smell the plumerias, hear the crashing waves, and feel the warm salt breeze surround me. Alek and his daughter return home to help his mother revive the family restaurant. Leilani is a beautiful, kind-hearted, brilliant hula dancer. I loved that, despite their age difference, Leslie gave Alek and Leilani a shared past to deepen their connection and build their relationship. I love romance books that focus on Ohana. Hula is a fantastic, sweet, steamy, and quick romance that will fill you with those warm & fuzzy island vacation feelings.
What a wonderfully sweet coming home story set in the beautiful Hawaii by Leslie Pike. Hula is the story of Alek and Leilani and really the extended family as well, finding their way and navigating life, love, and family during some not too easy times. The author gives such vivid depictions of the setting and each family member that brings this story to life and makes you feel like you are there among the flowers and beaches and setting sun. I love how this story has a loose connection with another series by this same author. Now we all need to go to Hawaii and dive into the local culture!
I loved this story of what family means. Alek and his daughter come home for the summer and find what home can be. Alek ventured out on his own when he was a teen and was successful at life. Until life was more important at home. This single dad is doing the best that he can. His daughter Alana, is headed into teenage years and all that comes with it. His mother helps but when he meets Leilani, he finds not only a companion for himself but a cheerleader for Alana. Perfect summer read.
What a fantastic story about family and second chances! This is a multi generational story featuring Alek, his mother, and his daughter as they all approach changing situations. Ms Pike did an excellent job of weaving the various family stories, budding romances, and giving us a glimpse of true Hawaiian culture. This is definitely a feel good story about meeting the right person at the right time and being open to change. I would be curious about seeing more of the Medina family!
Hula is part of the Coming Home series, and the first book by this author that I have read. I loved reading and following Leilani and Alex's story of family and love. The addition of the different Hawaiian traditions added to the telling of the story, and I look forward to reading more from not only this series, but this author as well.
I've always loved Hawaii. If there was one place I could vacation this would be it. This couple and their family will teach you about love, hope and what it means to truly be a family. It sounds like paradise in every page. I love the history shared. This book is the best escape from reality.
Like always Leslie give us an extraordinary story full of love, traditions, family, values and more. This story in particular, show us the Hawaiian traditions, so beautiful, what an amaizing culture. The kind of love I read on this story makes me swoon big time. Every single one story by Leslie made me swoon. She never disappoint me, she is the best
I just love everything I from read from Leslie Pike - and Hula is a brilliant story about a man coming home to Hawaii to see his mother, and running into the younger sister of an old friend.
They hit it off and it’s a great story about second chances to come home and get the life you probably should have had to start with, life after loss, and a single dad trying to figure everything out.
Leslie Pike is a brilliant author and I think everyone should read her books!
