Rhemedy Tate is on a journey of discovery—slowly drowning as she navigates the waters to find her true self through the mirages she’s hidden behind for years.
Musa Walker is on a journey of recovery—coping with the loss of his wife while having to raise their twin daughters alone.
Sparks fly the instant these two lost souls collide; the attraction is undeniable, and their connection is unavoidable. They’re broken and inconsolable, but no one sees them in the way they see one another. Will their unhealthy attachment, and hidden addictions to tame the trauma, lead to their demise before love can prevail?
I am completely blown away after reading Salvage my Soul. Some books you read take you through a world of fantasy while others take you through very real and very painful experiences. This book journeyed the latter. This was my first read from Antionette Sherell and when I tell you she has a fan for life…. Just amazing! This was such a heartbreaking story and I felt every emotion that the author tried to evoke telling Rhemedy and Musa’s story…. tears were definitely shed. I lost sleep reading this book. The story was just so captivating and the fact that it touched on real life experience made it that much better. The tragedies that they both endured and how it tied them together in ways they could never imagine was crazy. The highs and lows of their relationship, traumas and healing was beautifully told. I’ve only read 3 books this year that have buried themselves deep in my soul and this one is now added to that list! Bravo Antionette
Loss, Pain, and Addiction brought these two sad souls together….This was a really good story. I love how the twins played a pivotal role throughout this entire journey to healing to a degree…I love how Musa was able to come alive and actually take charge…to realize the things best for his healing & recovery….he was ultimately able to help Rhemedy a bit with it….but, she had to really find her own way. I’m happy she found a middle ground with her mother….
Wow again, with this book I've read 51 books to date. And this one is Tops on that list. I can not begin to describe the myriad of emotions I endured with this storyline. From the first chapter it was easy to see that Rhemedy would have a rough challenge. I always thought I wanted a twin, especially since they run in my family, but baby, baby, I cannot imagine the headache of losing your womb mate. And then to have parents who take such an indifferent stance was heartbreaking. Meeting Musa the way they did, also set my mind on a reel of discontent. Then.... the thing that I knew would happen, happened. Yes, Musa and Rhemedy became the others crutch. As you get deeper into their story, you'll see the connections resurface. Musa loss his wife, Rhemedy was a twin, he had twins, do you see the connections? The twins connection and passivity will later become the next crisis to manage. After the turmoil, upheaval, and unexpected actions with Rhemedy and her family, I was overwhelmed. The conclusion restored my soul. 5+ stars for the best well-told novel in 2024. Bravo, for this excellent read!
I am having a hard time finding my voice right now after this read! Feels like every emotion that has laid dormant, has been brought to the surface, and set on fire! That is how powerful this story is! Whew…… Okay! Rhemedy and Musa have endured tragedies that have not only upended their lives but put them on a path of addiction; that they don’t know how to escape! These two are like oil and water when together, but they can’t seem to stay away! An intense pull is dragging them together, until all they can see is the other! They understand each other in a way no one else does! I loved how Rhem was supportive and loved on Musa’s girls, although she had so much going on in her own life! Musa tried not like Rhem, but he couldn’t resist! When the truth comes out about the night that Morgan died, I felt as if the world stopped! I knew this would be a defining moment in their relationship and hoped that they could survive it! I wanted to be upset with Musa, but knew he needed to take the actions he did, for everyone’s sake! However, I was heartbroken for Rhem! That ending was everything and more! If you are looking for a read to grab your heartstrings, feel empathy for the common man, and see two people find their way out of the darkness; THIS is it! Amazing read! 👍👍👍
Miss Antoinette, who even are you? Like, where did you come from, how is it just now I'm learning about you?
Wow, this book is a work of art. I have never read anything like this before. So real, so raw, filled with so many different emotions. This book didn't feel like I was reading a work of fiction. I felt like I was reading somebody's memoir. It pulled at every part of me, at every heart string. Rhemedy was broken, Musa was broken. They were attracted to each other even though they fought it. But that attraction was a recipe for disaster. Beautiful Disaster. Unhealthy beautiful disaster. These two had dark passengers in their lives, demons they were fighting. They leaned on each for support, but it was like the blind leading the blind. Musa's daughters stole my heart. Their innocence was the breath of fresh air this story needed. Even through their darkness, Musa and Rhemedy loved these girls soo well. Oh, Rhemedy's heart for the twins was breathtaking. I'm not going to lie, this book took me through it. Every emotion there is, I've experienced them. The sacrifice Musa made at the end for everyone broke my heart, made me happy and proud, and sad at the same time. This book was excellent, it was a masterpiece. This was not a fairy tale love story. This was someone's reality. And it made me love the book even more, because it gives me a little glimpse on addiction, on what some people are dealing with. People who are functioning in our circle and we don't even know they're drowning. I truly could go on and on and on about this book but I'm going to leave it at that.
A big thank you to the person who recommended this book to me. I loved every single page. Clearly I highly, super recommend this book. You will not regret it.
Please read with caution, cause it's a bit heavy. And y'all take care of your mental health.
This book had me go through just about every emotion possible🥹. I loved Rhemedy and Musa for each other, even though they were both broken they were worthy of love, forgiveness and second chances, he set boundaries and knew to let her go so that she can heal properly. I’m glad they got their happy ending in the end.
4.5 ⭐️ Aye man, the beginning to the end of this book was heavy!! Definitely experienced a wave of emotions!! There is so much to unpack, I know I won’t even scratch the surface!.
Musa & Rhemedy’s relationship was built from trauma that they both shared and it blossomed into something beautiful! Not only did they share trauma, they also shared the fact that they had both become addicts. Add children & PTSD (Musa), dysfunctional family relationships (Rhemedy), & trying to get through regular everyday life to that & it could be very detrimental to any relationship. They put a lot on one another & entrusted each other with more! The fact that they made it work in the end spoke to their willingness & motivation to be better for themselves and one another, hence the beauty in their romance/relationship!
Musa was stronger in some areas & Rhemedy was stronger in others, that to me made them the perfect couple! There were spicy, hot moments between the two of them & the attraction was unparalleled. The relationship that Rhemedy had with Musa’s twins was beyond beautiful. She saw a lot of herself in Lena, which is why she was so drawn to her! This novel to me showed how trauma takes a different toll on people mentally, physically, & emotionally. As well, how the relationship built with parents play a major role in how you turn out as an adult! I don’t think some parents understand that they’re our first teachers and first loves! They play a major role in our lives! I also believe that a lot of parents silence their children like their feelings don’t matter not remembering that their people too and they have feelings! This was relatable in many ways, which is sad but made this story necessary!
This was such an amazing read. If you can’t feel your pulse and wonder if you’re alive and need to test, then this is the book to pick up. You will feel everything!
I read some of, if not the most intense sexual scenes in this book. A lot of the time I’d have to stop reading, stand up and take a walk because of how intense the chemistry is with Musa and Rhemedy.
The struggles with grief, addiction, depression and living, seeing them just take each day at a time broke me but also reading through their triumphs brought a smile to my face.
Wow damn the ups and downs of it all. One night forever changed the lives of Musa and Rhemedy. Musa lost the love of his life and himself right along with her. For years he unhealthily grieved by using work as an excuse and alcohol to cope and forget. Now that he was home the alcoholism caused his twin daughters to question him as a parent. Which is actually how he runs into the beautiful Rhemedy. Rhemedy is the assistant teacher to Malena, one of Musa's daughters. She has built a special relationship with the girls and looks after them. Musa feels like she is a little too close to his girls and tells her as much.... rudely. The tension between them initially was thick. He quickly realizes she is a real advocate for his girls and he wants that for them. Her caring nurturing nature slowly seeps over to Musa. He didn't even know what hit him, and he was soon enthralled by Rhem. He realizes that she too has demons because of her loss. They both end up supporting each other through their addictions. It's very hard, but Musa very much wanted to be present for his girls and Rhem wanted to be present for Musa and his girls. Chile I cannot express the way she loved on him and his girls. The way she honored his wife, with no jealousy was seriously admirable. Goodness, the level of heartbreak experienced throughout this story, lawd it was a lot. I was on edge waiting for them to figure out the commonality of their loss and it shattered poor Rhem. It shattered Musa too, it was rough. Rhem went through it and I was so glad to see her overcome her pain, guilt, and loss. She deserved to live and experience love. They both did and I'm glad Musa and Rhem finally find solace in each other.
Sn: this ain't got nothing to do with nothing, but was I the only one wondering why Musa was never at work? 🤣😂
This was a beautiful story filled with so much pain, love, heartache, and healing. From the beginning I knew this book would be heavy but it took me on such an emotional ride. Rhemedy and Musa were so broken but they fit together perfectly. I was so proud of them and the courage they had to love each other through their trauma and also their courage to let one another go until they were healed.
I spent all night on this, and I honestly have no idea what to say; I'm awestruck. I kind of knew something bad was going to happen to Rhemedy because of the foreshadowing, but I wasn't prepared for this. Wow, this was rough right from the start. THIS WAS A SITUATION. If the thought of dealing with loss, addiction, grieving, and mental health is too much for you, you might want to save this to read later.
Although this was layered, I think it was done so that we could see Musa and Rhem's healing process. The deeper you read you feel connected to each character and want better for them. I like that we read them struggle and how certain events/ triggers can cause them to relapse again. They each struggle with some form of addiction. Alcohol for Musa and pills for Rhem. Both are turning to these vices as a crutch or source of comfort to enable them to deflect their problems. In result of the incident, Musa developed post-traumatic stress disorder. Wow, they were so fragile, and it's remarkable how dependent they were on one another. Musa was a man, and no matter what he was going through, he was going to look after the women in his life. He did this successfully. The way Rhem caters for the girls while simultaneously protecting their mother was just beautiful. I wish the conclusion had been longer because I wanted to learn more about what had transpired over the preceding five years, but I'm happy that Musa and Rhem were able to reconcile.
My ass itches thinking about how awful their parents were. I would have been willing to give them some leeway if grief had been the reason, but they were awful even before the incident.
Wow.. I’m literally blown away. Kinda at lost for words. I would have to say this was a beautiful heartbreaking story. This will definitely pull different emotions out of you cause it damn sure pulled it out of me. Rhemedy and Musa story was so heartbreaking and would touch so many souls because it’s so freaking relatable and authentic. It also bought them together. These two is guaranteed to put you through it but it’s expected.
Don’t go into this book thinking it’s all peaches and cream like I did. Pace yourself, it can be triggering for a lot. This was a great read. One of my favorites this year. Ms. Sherell you did a amazing job writing this story. Amazing 👏🏾.
There are some books that just really hits me where my heart is and that’s what this book did. It absolutely tugged on my heart strings and had me rooting for these characters to win!
The author wrote this story so well; it was raw, honest, vulnerable, and captures the readers attention from the very beginning. Now, this book is heavy and could be difficult to read for some but I welcomed all that these characters went through because it was substantial for their growth. The writing was superb, I could tell the author really researched the topics that were mentioned. Not only that, she didn’t hold back- the characters got to tell their stories and it wasn’t forced.
The characters, Musa and Rhemedy, went through some serious issues: death, addiction, grief, mental health are some of the many things they endured. They found solace in each other. At times, it felt that they were codependent on each other but I loved the boundaries that Musa eventually made. It was needed- they both needed to get well for themselves first! That was important.
This story will definitely touch someone. It was a beautiful tragic story but it ended with a HEA and I appreciate that!! Amazing job on this one!💙🫶🏾these characters have my heart..
The book offered a realistic and honest portrayal of addiction and grief, neither romanticizing nor demonizing these issues but rather showing them as the complicated and messy realities they are. Rhemedy and Musa are grieving for two different people but the pain they share is connected.
There is a love story here but there is also a complex journey of learning to live with grief, recovering from addiction, living in your truth, dealing with people who are unhealthy for said journey. Honestly, this book takes my words away because it was painful and raw, but also beautiful, Rhemedy was drowning in her grief, guilt, the heavy expectations of her parents, and addiction—no one really saw her before Musa and I truly believe he was able to see her because he was drowning too. So many lessons in this book—Rhemedy and Musa are worthy of love, forgiveness, and second chances but they also have the right to set boundaries to ensure their sobriety and mental health.
This book has strong CW/TWS: Substance Abuse, Addiction, Grief, Suicidal Ideations, Suicide.
Dislike to love. Single dad and his kids teacher. Found family. Two people using substances to deal with their grief. Loved the banter between these two. I’m glad it was addressed that sex can also be used to deal with your issues. Very flawed main characters, who had to do the work to get it together for themselves and each other. I liked that the author didn’t gloss over or rush the things they needed to work on, children included. Grief and sobriety aren’t linear. I’m glad the author showed how you can find love and companionship while getting yourself together, but also sometimes you have to do it on your own.
Missed opportunity for Musa to bring flowers to the girls talent show.
4.5 ⭐️ wow! Rhemedy & Musa went through some sh*t! I liked how the story all came together at the end. Rhem’s parents were terrible even though the mom came around towards the end 🙄 Worst parents everrrrr! I wanted more in the epilogue.
This novel has some heavy topics and harsh realities. I LOVED IT. This author is new to me and she has gained a new follower. Love even through the roughest of times will always win. Just read the damn book.
Trigger Warning: sexual assault, mental/physical/verbal abuse, animal abuse, unlikable characters
Obviously, my opinion is in the minority, and it is an opinion. However...
I do not know this author, but it seemed that they wanted to write about horrible people, didn't want the book to be seen as pointless, so they decided that "oh, yeah, addicts do horrible things, let's give them that disease as an excuse."
This isn't the first time the author has tried to excuse the act of sexually assaulting someone (at least this time no one was laughing, so I'll give them that). Yes, this is a work of fiction, but even fictional stories can cause harm to those who read it. For the people who believe that the lack of a "no" equates to a yes, please leave the topic of SA alone. Turning around to explain to a r*pist how they didn't hurt you (even though they did) just so the assaulter can feel better...I will never understand. Why do we accept crap in fiction when we would never accept it in real life?
The main characters are both substance abusers, and I would like to clarify that this story is not a romance. You can argue that love looks different to everyone, especially when you've never property received it before or have lost it, but are we going to ignore the fact that the male main character was the biggest, most selfish hypocrite throughout the story? But I guess it's okay because the author is telling you that this is the man for her. This is a story of a man using a woman whenever it benefits him, and an empty, abused woman who lets him as they both try to recover from addiction? I use the question mark because this book isn't written to inform anyone about addiction recovery--the addictions are just plot devices.
To be four hundred pages, the pacing of the story was slower in some parts, and not moving at all in others, there was no balance between the characters, and the author tried to juggle too many topics at once.
I can enjoy unlikeable characters. I can digest disturbing topics--especially if the characters are irredeemable. But none of this was handled well in my opinion. Read with caution. This author just isn't for me.

Great story!! Rhemedy x Musa were fated to each other. The way their paths kept crossing was pure kismet. And the twins were too cute. I loved how Rhem showed up every time for those girls like they were her own.
I really enjoyed this book. I just wish that Rhem and her dad could have resolved some of their issues. I loved that Musa knew what she needed and himself. Good read.
I’m really at a lost for words. This book… man! It was everything and more. I don’t want to say much because I don’t want to give the book away, but substance abuse is serious!! This book had me with so many emotions. All and all it was a great damn read
This book pulled so many emotions from me. Initially, I thought it was a love story. A romance book. I didn’t think it was as heavy as it turned out to be. Personally, I don’t have any triggers and thank goodness I don’t because this book would have definitely been one for me. There is rape, a shooting that left multiple deaths, drug and alcohol abuse, parental neglect, and verbal abuse between the parents and Rhemedy and between Rhemedy and Musa. The storyline was good but I almost stopped reading at times because Rhem’s parents were horrible to her, her father was a complete joke, and Musa was just mean to her more often than not. There were so many issues in this book but I’ll focus on what bothered me most. Rhemedy gave so much of herself in this book to be treated the way she was treated by not only her parents but Musa. He had an addiction as well as Rhemedy but he constantly treated her as if her addiction was worse and his was non existent. He had his mother and his daughter and she had no one and I felt like he used her to make himself better. Most of the book he talked to her like garbage while all she did was uplift him, loved his kids, support him, encouraged him not to drink, accepted his flaws and listened without judgement when he talked about his deceased wife. All he did was not commit, played with her mind back and forth regarding being in a relationship, having sex when it was convenient for him, threatening to not allow her around his kids, and he left her hanging multiple times when she needed his support. He promised to be there for her but when he put her in her mothers car and refused to see about her when she almost killed herself that made me cry and maxed me out all at once. His response to her coming clean about his wife and her sisters death is the reason she took fentanyl in the first place. He used her up and left her to fend for herself and then all of a sudden her mother was this caring and concerned helpful parent. So, again the story kept me entertained because I needed to see what happened by the end but overall nobody really redeemed themselves in the end. I’m glad Rhem got clean, since it seemed Musa dictated if they would be together he got his family, and the girls got Rhem in their lives along with the new edition. I was wondering when someone in this book would blame Sheena for being the reason Rhem even got started on pills. Ismaeal just got away with rape huh?
This story was so beautifully written I had to pause after I finished it. This is not the book for people who require trigger warnings because all of them are covered. Rhemedy and Musa are beautifully flawed individuals who have to learn to love themselves, in order to extend the love to each other. I enjoyed how seamlessly the plot flowed and how it didn't hinder the characters themselves. Musa made me feel for him just as much as Rhemedy made me feel for her. I also love that though this is a HEA, itis a believable one. Every character in the book remains true to themselves (per the author anyway). This is an enemies to Lovers romance that will break your heart and heal you simultaneously.
The character development was amazing. I have multiple characters that I like: Rhemedy, Musa, Malena for a plethora of reasons. You doing it right when the kids have personality.
The storyline and plot had a lot of themes that made it unique. The themes include PTSD, drug abuse, toxic familial relationships, grief/loss, substance abuse, alcohol abuse, trauma bonds, etc. What made it unique is that the author allowed two broken people to come together and it not be a disaster!
My only critique is that it that it took the two main characters to figure out their mutual connection to one another.
I need someone to Salvage my soul after this read sheesh! The way this story is written is so realistic. I worried about Rhem and Musa individually for the entire book. They had so much sadness and vices to overcome. It was more than a love story and shined light on real world mental health and substance abuse issues in a relatable way!
This is a reminder for anyone like me, read what you own! I promise you there is a hidden gem in your kindle that you've neglected. That is exactly what happened with Salvage My Soul. I should be ashamed at having this book on my kindle for a year a half and never having picked it up. This is akin to having oil in my backyard and continuing to pay for premium gas at the station. Ludicrous behavior if you ask me!
Antoinette had my hooked from chapter 1 with is story. She has a gripping nature about her writing that immediately draws you in and makes you emotionally invested. I want to protect Musa and Rhemedy at all cost.... Their love and their happiness was hard fought until the very end. The high between the characters are just as intense as the lows in this book. Antoinette didn't make it easy but she damn sure made it worth it. I was a little scared at the very end until we got to the epilogue. That's how much she takes it to the edge.
This undoubtedly will go in my favorites of the year... highly recommend!
A ball of emotions! 🤦🏾♀️😭 Baby, I was scared to get to end cause my heart was beating so fast. Rhemedy and Musa, babyyy. They take love to another level! This story captivated a bunch of emotions, slight triggers, but it was definitely worth reading to the END! I absolutely wish I could give more than 5 stars! ♥️
