Supernatural Speakeasy #9

That Magic Moment

Rate this book
Ofelia Archer is working toward a goal, both personally and professionally, and she’s making great strides on both. Her attention is diverted, however, when a steamboat washes ashore next to the riverwalk…and it’s a boat that is more than a hundred years overdue.
The Adelaide was supposedly lost on the river back in the day, all souls onboard believed lost, and yet it’s in New Orleans…and it might not be empty.
Ofelia and her boyfriend Zach Sully are part of the first team to visit the boat, and almost immediately Ofelia is struck by the reality they’re not alone. Unfortunately for her, she can’t pin down a source for the feeling. When ghosts start haunting her home and dreams, however, the story begins to take shape.
The Adelaide was besieged by darkness before the end came. Now that darkness is pointed at New Orleans. It’s up to Ofelia and Sully to put an end to it all…even when the darkness decides Ofelia is the new target.
Some bonds last a lifetime. Some last beyond. The bonds from the Adelaide are something more, and not even death can tear them asunder. It can take aim at Ofelia, however, which means she could be joining the dead before it’s all said and done.

entertaining paranormal urban fantasy cozy mystery series

This is an entertaining paranormal/urban fantasy cozy mystery series. Spectacular cast of characters and as always an extraordinary and entertaining story line. Ophelia is a witch who owns a bar in New Orleans just off the strip. Her boyfriend is a New Orleans plays Detective and panther shifter. Her father is the one that started the bar and had Ophelia take it over when he retired. He still hangs around although he’s not quite fully stable mental wise at times. He is working on it. I’ll see him while running the bar and refurbishing the building next-door. She also happens to help protect her city when it comes to supernatural issues going on. She has a lot of paranormal friends including Ann old vampire pretending to be a human pretending to be a vampire who owns a little shop. A siren a few other witches and even a few voodoo queens. Together they all protect New Orleans from crazy out-of-control supernatural issues. Read on and see what is going on in this story. It is a unique and entertaining take that will draw you in and keep your reading from beginning to end. Once again another in my opinion at least five star story. Check it out

I'm reading through all the reviews, and I agree the story line is great. The characters are good as well. More on Pascal Please! But is anyone else getting tired of Ofelia's insecurities? Felix and Sully always, placating her. Maybe now that they are engaged and 9 books later, it will sink in that Sully is not going anywhere! I find myself skipping more and more pages to avoid the dialog as the series progresses. Less therapy sessions, more saving the day.

This read brought up some problems from Fe’s past that she didn’t even know she had. We found out that time is not a line (like timeline), rather it is a circle.

Ofelia’s issues of her being a control freak were also brought up and the pointing out of that really made me annoyed with her. She stayed in “Sully’s apartment” for a few weeks and there wasn’t even a day she didn’t complain about it. Luckily, Sully adores her anyway and her need to be in control over everything doesn’t bother him…much. He accepts her as she is - spaz and all.

Oscar is on the brink of having a meltdown, but when Sully tells him he’ll need to cool it a little bit longer, Oscar raspberries in his face. But then Fe makes the same request and Oscar says he’ll be good for his girl for as long as she needs. In this case, she is only asking him to chill out for the rest of the day while she goes to save some souls!

Pascal, a Father, and Fe’s best friend that is a Siren were all called by her to help fight a ghoul. This particular ghoul has been around for at least 150 years and has been feeding on passengers aboard a ship the entire time. Will the gang beat him? I hope so!

We were introduced to Ben who is part Warlock and Ogre. He was with the paranormal crew the day of the ghoul fight. I hope he is in future books, because even though he requested Ofelia end his life, she said she refused to kill him. He watched his soulmate’s soul walk into the light and wanted to go with her, but she requested he stay the duration of his life instead. I believe he will help Ofelia in a future book battle a bad guy/bad girl…whichever. Fe always has someone to fight! She loves it - don’t worry.

I am going to read a book that came out only a week, or so, ago. It is by Emma Ainsley. Non paranormal. There’s no magic, but it is a cozy small town mystery romance. It has everything I like in a book except magic. It is the 17th book in its series and it’s called “Easy Come, Easy Dough”.

Fascinating!

No spoilers:
A ghost ship, A man who is alive, but shouldn't be, A ghostly warning, A ticking time bomb dad, A hissed off cat...
It's going to take the whole crew to solve this very old mystery, and defeat whatever it was that killed everyone on board; if that's what even happened.
I did say it was a mystery.
On a happier note; Sully surprises Ophelia with the news that their penthouse is ready to move into, and she cleverly bribes her regulars into moving everything from the condo into it in just a few hours. This is a nice surprise for Sully too!
Only the cat is still hissed, but he'll get over it.
If they manage to win the day, Sully has one more surprise for her, and it's A doozy!
Read the series from the beginning and find out why so many people have given this series a five star rating!
I highly recommend it!

Still a good series, although Lily Harper Hart is back to the "romance the crap out of you" line, thinking eating in bed is sexy (gross!), and the male character needing to constantly protect, touch, and have sex with the heroine. The storylines in this series are absolute delights involving paranormal stuff. Pascal is awesome! Zach is turning into a whiny needy person and not the person he started out in book 1. Looking forward to see how Oscar (Ofelia's Dad) turns out. Her mother (Marie Charles) is an absolute mess who picks on Ofelia constantly. These paranormal stories by Lily Harper Hart are top of the line, especially when she concentrates on the story instead of "dicking" around with the heroine's private life. Please just tell the story! Stupid sex scenes and eating in bed are not required. An actual sex scene might be nice once in awhile!

a really interesting and intriguing mystery

I do love a good historical mystery and this one was full of it with a barrel full of magic to boot.

Dreams may take many years to fruition but for Ophelia they eventually happen even if she doesn’t remember.

A steamboat missing for 150 years full of ghosts, a father who is beginning to spiral and an aimless brother all have Ophelia stresses to the max!!!
Thank goodness for Sully he always has Ophelia’s back and Pascal is always there for extra support.

This setting, my favourite I really love reading books set in New Orleans.
These characters, I’m just in love with them all, it’s truly a unique dynamic the author has set up in this series.

The ending for this story was perfect the calm before the storm to come.

A love story in levels

First of all, I just love a gal who straightforwardly says that the way to her heart is through her stomach. Go Fe!
There are a lot of threads being wound up in this book. And the premise is fascinating, as well.
When a very old steamboat, which disappeared with a full crew and passenger list, suddenly reappears 150 years later, something is definitely up. And something is decidedly wrong. High time Fe and Sully get the chance to officially work together.
There’s more than one love story in here, and many kinds of love.

Great

This was a great book. Mentally it is a 5 star; emotionally.... 4. Though that is just because my heart really wanted a bigger happy ending. This book had a bitter sweet storyline ending. It was entertaining and the story was haunting. Tough times ahead for Fe on the family/father front. Love seeing Pascal and also Bernie. Would like to know if Baron is just being a cat or if something else is going on. I'm sure we'll see though, and I'm looking forward to finding out.

I enjoy the series and like the characters. However, at some point in a series the author has to stop fully providing the basic information, again, about where each character is from and how they go where they are. It's as if she LHH is trying to let the book be a standalone and we're just too far into it for that. I'm hoping with the Big Reveal, Fe will get it together about their relationship. Also, what happened to the ghost that was in Sully's condo? She seemed to be different than the ones on the boat for some reason. Was she Anne?

Cute characters

I love all of Lily's books. The bipolar dad and the vampire pretending to be a human that likes the vampire life style. My only issue with this series is all the food the characters eat. I'm a celiac disease sufferer and a diabetic. The restaurant Oceana supposedly has a great biscuits and gravy and its mentioned frequently. It takes some sacrifice on my part to pick up the book.😉

Book 9

Fe and Sully are up against a very odd happening, even by NOLA's standards. A Ghost Ship has appeared and supernatural things are happening. The move from Sully's apartment is going to happen as the renovations above the Bar have finally finished. And Oscar's illness is coming to a head.

Great addition to series

Love the addition to the series. Really enjoying the series. I also love it when Pascal is involved. I wanted to thump Sullys coworker Biff so badly. Looking forward to next in series. The couple are back in the penthouse, but don't get to enjoy before another crisis pops up. Her dad Oscar is getting closer to the edge. Definitely recommend.

Another great story for a great series!

The supernatural events in this book were different. An interesting take on ghouls but explained through the history of New Orleans magical beings and all those characters that love Ophelia and Sully. Can't wait to read the next book in this series.

Loved it!

This was a great story from beginning to end. Normal family issues happened (just remember, family is not always blood and bone, sometimes it is the family you create) the characters are wonderful, and everyone sees the light at the end of the tunnel. I most assuredly recommend this book.

Good read

Book 9 has all the regular quirky characters as well as several new ghosts and a ghoul. There is mystery, cold case deaths, humor, angst, and a surprise ending. Pressure is building on Ofellia's father and you'll have to read the next book to see what happens. Highly recommend.

Ofelia and the Krewe are going strong!

Lily Harper Hart has a history of strong characters driving long series' of Paranormal adventures known as Cozies. The defining characteristic of a Cozy seems to be an active romance without any pornographic detail. I am pleased with this entry!

Continue to enjoy this series. New paranormals present in this story. Fe calls on a few friends to help with this battle instead of going alone. Pascal is developing and being involved more which I like. Oscar is getting ready to melt down and Fe will have to stay strong to help him. A few pleasant surprises in this one with a happy ending. Definitely worth the read as is the series.

A very old ghoul

When a one hundred and fifty year old missing paddle steamboat suddenly appears in New Orleans, looking exactly the same as it did then, Ofelia gets a really bad feeling. As she should have, there is a ghoul on board who has been terrorising the ghosts stuck there with him. Can Ofelia free the souls and defeat the ghoul?

What a fascinating storyline!!!

I enjoyed this very much! But, I hope Baron, the cat, comes out from under the couch soon. This series has really great characters and all the storylines are interesting. I'm waiting to see how Ofelia will handle her Dad's breakdown when it comes. I really love this series!

Rollercoaster Ride!

Wow! So much going on in the Quarter and with Ofelia and Sully. I loved the teams coming together to solve the paranormal problem ship issue, even those who were doubting the power they brought to the table. Great book!

Surprising and so good

This book was awesome! This series gets better as each book is added and it was already an excellent series at book #1. This book had tragic and it had mystery but best of romance with sarcasm & comedy added it. I loved the ending. So sweet!
