Legion of Angels #5

Shifter's Shadow

Rate this book
Next to the powers of heaven and hell, we are nothing.

“So this was just one gigantic, cosmic war between light and dark magic. And we were only a small part of it, a tiny dot in the gods’ empire. It was no wonder that they saw us as insignificant.”

Tested by the gods, Leda and her angelic mate Nero venture into the City of Ashes, a fallen fortress in the Western Wilderness where nightmarish monsters reign supreme and an ancient secret is buried. To survive the Gods’ Trials, they will have to save the city—and they will have to do it without their magic.

Their victory, however, comes at a heavy price. And the secret they uncover will upset the balance of power between Earth and heaven.

Shifter’s Shadow is the fifth book in the Legion of Angels series.

I must tell you all something: I am a book addict, and this series only makes it worse.

I'm hooked on this series, I can't seem to put it down.

I admit, it's not the best series out there, maybe the characters have all sorts of flaws and yes, maybe they are annoying at times, maybe even the plot could be slightly improved, but all of this is not an excuse. I am hooked.

And you know the weird part about it? I love it!

Have I mentioned that I love this series, like love love? Because I do, a lot! I'm so behind writing reviews, cause once I finish reading one book I need to know what happens in the next and then I just forget about the reviews. But if you read these books you'd know what I mean and be totally understandable.

description

As always the plot is great with lots and lots of action, the main characters are the bomb and in this book there ware even some clues as to what Leda is. Lets just say that we get a nice plot twist about a certain character and I love it. And now that the Gods are getting more and more involved the story simply gets more and more interesting. I'm not giving away any spoilers but the sixth book is pretty awesome, too.

Shifter’s Shadow takes place right where Dragon’s Storm ends with the BIG surprise.

Leda and Nero are now officially a couple in this one. I’m happy that they are finally together, but that doesn’t mean things will go smoothly.

In Shifter’s Shadow we get Nero’s promotional test, the Gods Trial, and he has picked Leda as his second. Lets, just say this test isn’t easy and what the Gods expect Nero to do is down right upsetting and sad, but these two always find away to work around the rules and bet the odds.

As you can guess we get to meet the Gods and Goddess. Can’t say I’m a fan. Their seams to be things going on that only a slit few know about; a war amongst the gods and of course the issue with the demons. Not only do we meet the gods, but we get more surprises in the supernatural world that I didn't see coming.

Leda has leveled up again and gets to lead her own team on a mission, while Nero stands by and observes. Leda is a fun character to like. She’s sarky, kick ass, and knows what to do in situations. She keeps her cool and keeps everyone on her team alive.

Ms. Summers has done a wonderful job in her world building, character development, and bringing in something new to each additional installment. Legion of Angels is a fantastic series. I’m hooked. Each installment brings me something new to love. It’s been a while since I’ve found a series that has pulled me in and made me want to read one book after another. Now that I’m done with book five, Shifter’s Shadows, I’ll have to wait for book six, since it’s not out yet.

I just flove Ella Summers Legion of Angels series. I can't get enough of them. They're like a drug to me which I just need constant fixes of. I. Seriously. Flipping. Love. These. Books!!!!

My excitement levels were at fever pitch when I heard Shifter's Shadow, book 5 in the Legion of Angels series, was up for pre order and about to come out. I squealed with excitement, and may of done a little book nerd bum wiggle too. However, you always have to be careful going into a new book in a series with high expectations.

No need to worry here though because this book was just AMAZING. Ella Summers never seems to disappoint me with any of her books. She manages to draw me into their depths with the action packed adventure and the awesome characters. I never want to put her books down, and I rarely do, managing to breathe them all in just in one sitting! Shifter's Shadow did that all over again to me, and I was consumed by this story ignoring anything and everything around me.

Shifter's Shadow kicks right back off where book 4 ended and the question is "is that angel Nero?" That gets answered several times over as do several other questions in this book. Ella Summers is slowly building this series to a crescendo pitch. It's slowly building and growing in each book, enticing you with unanswered questions but feeding you little tidbits along the way. In this book there were some explosive questions answered about some characters and situations. The Gods finally came in to play and the story took a twist that I'm looking forward to seeing play out.

Not only is the world building great in this series as a whole but so is the character development. Leda is one of my favourite characters, she kicks ass and is sarky, but she also has a heart of gold. In this book she really comes in to her element. She shows why she is the perfect partner to Nero, but we're still not any closer to discovering just what she is. Everytime I think I've worked it out, Ella Summers throws another spanner in the works to throw me off the scent!

Nero. Well just wow! Just when I think I can't fall even more in love with him he goes and does something else that makes him 10 times hotter than he was before. The passion between him and Leda which was growing through books 1-3 and exploded in book 4 is steaming off the pages. Their relationship is HAWT! It's just perfect.

How can I not give this book 5 stars? I'd give it more if I could because it's just brilliant. Each book in this series is just getting better than the last and I'm loving it. It's a must read series and book which I keep on telling everyone to read. If you've already read books 1-4 then don't hesitate, pick this up and read it now and let it's contents transport you to a world that you wished you were in. Perfect.

May 2020 Short Review

I love this series. I decided to read the last book that I left off with, which is Shifter's Shadow because I need to continue the series. Again, this story continues to get better and better. Leda and Nero are amazing characters. They really are perfect together, but I thought the secondary characters were also fantastic. The story had action, suspense, humour, and romance. I can't wait to see what book 6 has in store for me. Overall, an amazing read.

May 2019 Long Review

Thank you Sharon J for recommending this series to me. This was an incredible read. The story continues right where book 4, The Dragon’s Storm ends. In this book, Leda is trying to advance her magic level to level 5, Shifter’s Shadow. Also, we get to see Nero go through his level 10 promotion trials. The story as always has action, adventure, romance and twists. The characters are amazing. Leda and Nero are my favourite characters and I am so happy that they are now a couple. Their chemistry is amazing and they are adorable together. I love seeing Nero more open because he loves Leda and I am happy to see her as her snarky self because I think she is a badass. The ending was perfect. I can’t wait to see what Book 6 will take us. Overall, an amazing read.

With each new book, Leda typically gains a new power level. The journey is usually filled with danger, sassiness, humor, and magic. This time, it’s not just Leda who achieves power, and I was tickled pink by the ending!

The Legion series has become a keeper! The characters are lively, dimensional, and quirky enough to keep me entertained with the good-and the bad-and I fly across the pages in sheer delight over their antics. Leda, Nero, Basanti, and Nyx are my big favorites, but I honestly like them all-except Fireswift Sr. I’d rather deal with Darth Vader... off to book 6!!

For me this whole series is a 5 star series.

I head a lot of good thing about this book. The series was recommended to me many times (#cakeeaters thank you). I never picked it up, because I was scared that I won't like a well loved series. But I finally did, because I put it in a clear your tbr challenge and it was called.

I started the first book Vampire's legion last sunday, when the number was drawn and I only stoped once to finish another challenge but otherwise I read the whole series in only seven days! I really binged it.

I loved Leda and her lovely chaotic ways. She really got things done, even if the Angels thought that her ways were inappropriate. But she always thought out of the box and her actions lead to results.
Nero is a good counterpart. He gives her stability, rules and has her back. But he also knows how to bend the rules properly. Which leads to creative rule bending Leda styled.

The series was so much fun. I rarely read a series that long, where I wanted to have the next book like yesterday. The audiobooks are good too. I like the narrator. Most of the time I read and listened to the series changing from ebook to audiobook and back.

Five stars recommendation!

Heads up: I'll just copy this review into all the other books of the series. Also most of the audiobooks (one to eight) were free on audible at the end of 2023. For the first four book there is one audiobook available, but it's not free on audible.

It keeps getting better and better.
Leda as always is fierce and funny, but in this one we are able to see the the love between her and Nero, and is fantastic.
I can't get enough of them. They are the best couple. He trust her and encorager, push her to be better. And always is ther for her.
This book has action, a huge surprise and we are able to meet the gods.
I don't want to say much for fear of spoilers, but you have to read this serie is really entertaining and diferent. Is my favorite of this genero.
And as always I need the next the soon as posible !!!!!

Sadly, it took me forever to read this as life got very hectic for a hot minute.

BTW I AM ENGAGED NOW.
Feels a little weird to say as I’m still in as much shock of being proposed to as the guy who took our photo went from capturing a pic of an unknown couple to capturing a pic of an unknown couple getting engaged on the edge of a cliff.
Needless to say, I’m endlessly happy.

but you’re here for a book review right?

Onward, Fluffy!!

So anyway,
Scooby and the gang 2.0 are back for another round of angels vs demons
Ding
Ding
Ding
Jk it’s just the Gods being petty. The demons have nothing to do with this.
I’m excited to see this entire plot come FULL CIRCLE.

Ivy and Drake have made snail-pace improvement in discovering their love.

Leda and Nero got an apartment together. AWWW. How humanly mortal of them.
Look at them, doing human shit.
Next, they’ll get a puppy.

Jace and Harker are probably slowly dying inside of heartache as they see Leda continue to cement her already formed bond with Nero by doing the couple-y thing of moving in together.
(Did you really not see that, Leda? I mean c’mon, of course Jace has a thing for you)
IS THIS FOREBODING????
Are my predictions of Jace slowly coming true?

Any who, I’ll make my way to the next book in just a minute.

In this book, Leda and Nero are going on a mission to help Nero reach the next level. They must find a way to stay alive, and complete their mission, no matter what it takes. However, when it is all said in done, it is the Gods they must answer to, and that makes things a bit tricky.

This one wasn't as good as previous books in the series. I was annoyed with how close it seemed Nero and Leda were in the beginning, then it was like he just vanished out of the book for the most part, till more towards the end.

Other than that I will say I did enjoy this one, even though I felt like a lot of stuff didn't really happen in it. And Leda did good trying to save the day.

The ending was the best part of the book, and I look forward to more in the next book.

This story just keeps getting better and better. I love Nero and Leda and I'm so happy to see that they are so strong together. The plot has twists and turns galore, each one as good as the last. All my favourite characters had major roles in this book so I'm a very happy reader at the moment. Can't wait for the next book. Highly recommend.

Hmm I keep wondering why this series has so high ratings, now I've read through all five in a row and it is getting predictable and repetitive.

The ingredients of each book's plot:
- Leda is training and it hurts
- Leda gets a promotion
- Leda goes on a mission
- Nero swoops in with a new mission (even though he is meant to stay away from Leda)

That mixed up is basically the plot of book 2 through 5 with small twists, and there is no major plot arc that I can see except trying to rescue Zane which doesn't really tie into any of the other things going on, except Leda has to survive to reach level 9 so she can get telepathy and save Zane.
I admit it's a good book with interesting interactions between well developed characters, but it also need some plot arcs that span over more than one book beside the one about saving Zane. Because right now it just feels like a waiting game for when Leda gets to level 9, so basically we have 4 books to go if it goes the same as the last 5.

And ohhh yes let's not forget the mystery of Leda who has wierd powers not even immortal angels or gods knows the origin of (which makes absolutely no sense).
This has my mind in a twist trying to figure it out, and is basically the only thing that has kept me reading, damn sometimes I wonder why I am still reading this.

I was pretty sure after reading the book right before this one in this series that it was becoming one of my favorite series. After reading this one, I am totally convinced. I just love when a new book comes out in this series because the books are just so well-written, engrossing, and full of great characters, everything just seems to leap off the pages. I love the place that Nero and Leda are in their relationship, and how well they just work together, both in their life and work, and I don’t normally find the romances in books to be the best part. And the plot in this one was full of twists and turns that I never saw coming. Kudos to Ms. Summers for writing such a wonderful series. If you like urban fantasy with a romance thrown it, I urge you to try this series; it’s great! If you are already a fan of this series, you will love this one! Highly recommend! Thanks to the author for the e-book which I reviewed voluntarily.

This is another action packed book in the Legion of Angels series. Nero is taking the God's Test for his next promotion and chooses Leda (they are a couple now) as his second to assist him. More craziness ensues as they battle together. We also meet up with the Shifter Stash again in this book and learn much more about his background. Leda continues her training and is getting stronger physically and magically. Her final goal is still to reach level 9 and find her brother. As she becomes more aware of her uniqueness, she also becomes more curious as to who/what she truly is. The world is still a little confusing to me with Gods, Demigods, Guardians, Angels, Supernaturals, etc. But I am enjoying the development of all the secondary characters immensely and it somehow keeps me coming back for more.

4 f*** Harker Stars!

I'm really enjoying this series so far. This world of angels and gods and other supernatural beings in an urban fantasy setting is becoming more entertaining as the series continues. The characters are awesome. I love their complexities, how much development goes into them. Harker's so well written that I hate his guts. Lol he's like the scum under my shoe! There's not much to dislike about this book tbh, I just wished there was more steam/smut. And everytime Pandora levels up, I want for it to be beserker level power. But we don't always get what we want. Nonetheless I really liked this book.

It was a beautiful read. After reading the fourth book of this series the expectation was very high and Ella Summers had DELIVERED. I generally don't write reviews but since this is a truly mind-blowing read I will recommend all readers who like baddass women, alpha-brooding-sexy male (technically angel) , disastrous situations and a life and death match is bound to love this book. This series is a must reads for all the crazy bookworms out there who love love the combination of hot coffee and an 'unputdownable' book.

Ella Summers has done it again. This was a great read...very hard to put it down. I really liked how the action started right away. The interactions between Leda and Nero just keep getting better and so does the overall story. And I love how Drake and Alec remind me of the Commandos from her Dragon Born series. It would be interesting to see how they would all fare in a battle. ;-)
Can't wait to read what's next and so glad there are more to come.

Im so glad I took a break on then series when I did because I feel like I enjoyed this book alot more then I would have read it right away. I am so glad there was less lovey dovey and more action though. I knew a god was evolved or knew something about it, but I was not expecting the one it was. Actually there was a couple Gods that knew. Plus Leda and Nero are moving in together, so that should be interesting.

I almost gave this book a five star because it came right after a book that made me feel terrible, and this book lifted my spirit in a way that had me swooning and grinning.

The fifth book finds Leda helping Nero achieve his maximum potential. The action was clear and concise, without any confusion. The romantic parts had me grinning huge. The horrible parts weren't too angsty, but I don't expect them to be. Add to all that, the mystery was totally unexpected, even though the hints have been there.

In the end, this book shows why Ella Summers is a one click for me. Pure happiness, lots of action and excitement, and characters we learn to love and hate.
