A Brush with Death by Fiona Leitch brings death, an end of summer art festival and some humor to the second book in the Nosey Parker cozy mystery series set in the Cornish town of Penstowan. Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker has moved back to her home town after leaving the London police force. Her 12 year-old daughter Daisy wanted her to do something less dangerous so Jodie retrained as a caterer and started Banquets and Bakes, her own catering company. She has volunteered to cater the opening night party, provide a cake for the end of festival auction, and help out in the refreshment tent from time to time during the week-long celebration. The guests of honor are famous painter, Duncan Stovall, and his wife, manager, and biographer, Genevieve Lorre. When the body of a writer is found at the bottom of a cliff, Duncan becomes the prime suspect. With Jodie’s background in the Met police, she can’t stay away from the case.

Jodie’s sense of humor and warmth was a delight. She was a likeable and friendly character that I connected with quickly. Her interactions with DCI Withers varied from witty to serious and a little bit of everything in between. Is there a romance in Jodie’s future? What about her friendship with Tony Penhaligon? The secondary characters were developed more fully. Instead of only quaint characters, there were also realistic characters that added to the realism of the story. How much have your high school friends and neighbors changed?

The writing style was imaginative and flowed well. The author did a good job of transporting me to the Cornish countryside and its small towns. She did a great job of ‘showing’ versus ‘telling’ which made the novel more enjoyable. The story had several twists and there were a couple of surprises at the end. Additionally, having a sleuth that was not an amateur brought a depth to the novel that is often lacking in cozy mysteries.

Overall, this was a story that quickly drew me into Jodie’s world. It was a fun, appealing and entertaining read with a solid mystery to unravel and a fresh take on the protagonist. All of the major plot points were resolved satisfactorily, the atmosphere was just right, and there are some threads to be explored in future books. Themes include the friendship, family, complicated relationships, small town attitudes, the art world, murder, romance, and much more.

I recommend it to those that enjoy the genre. It was a fun and relaxing read and I can’t wait for the next book featuring Jodie and her family and friends. It even includes a recipe at the end of the book.

I purchased a digital copy of this novel. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and are not biased in any way.

We return to Penstowan , Cornwall for the second helping of the Jodie (Nosey) Parker series. This instalment centres around the first Penstwowan Art Festival. The focus is on a series of paintings of the area by well known artist Duncan Stovall. Jodie is very attracted to Duncan, in fact she’s hypnotised by his lovely blue eyes but then there’s hunky DCI Nathan Withers and oh, let’s not forget the long standing friendship with Tony Penhaligon. Jodie, Jodie, Jodie!!!! There’s a surfeit of chaps in this one!!!

This one starts slowly building up the story and isn’t as immediately engaging as the first book and doesn’t have the same snap, crackle and pop! However, the dynamic duo of Withers and Parker eventually get their teeth into an entertaining and twisty, puzzling mystery. I like the dialogue between the characters which is often amusing with a certain amount of innuendo. The main characters are very likeable with really good dynamics between them. Jodie’s mum Shirley is probably the funniest character in the second book though on the receiving end of a certain amount of eye rolling from Jodie and her daughter Daisy!!! Jodie is a lot of fun though she can be outspoken when she needs to be. She definitely manages to insert herself into investigations with her nosey parkering which DCI Withers seems amenable to. As the mystery deepens we have tension between some characters which is conveyed well, there are some well kept secrets and deception, a corrupt organisation is uncovered which is pulling the strings in the dramatic events in Penstowan.

Overall, I don’t think this is as funny as the last book as the humour is more muted, however, it is an entertaining cozy mystery once it gets going and I really enjoy the characters.

With thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins, Harper Fiction for the arc for an honest review.

The Cornish Village Murder, previously titled A Brush with Death, is the second installment in The Nosey Parker Mysteries.

This series has definitely become one of my favorites in the Cozy Mystery genre. They're so fun!

I actually started with the 4th-book, as an ARC, and then the publisher was kind enough to send me a copy of the 1st. I knew without a doubt after that, I needed to read them all.

I since have been reading them upon release, there are now 6-total, the latest being A Cornish Seaside Murder, which I read and reviewed last month. I had missed books 2 and 3 though and really wanted to check those off the list.

I finally have time this month to dedicate to catching up. I actually listened to the audio for this one, which is the first time I have done so with this series and I loved the narration. It was so Jodie.

It was so good, in fact, that I finished it all today while doing my Saturday cleaning.

A little background, this series follows Jodie Parker, who recently resigned from the Metropolitan Police in London, after a close call, and returned to her native village of Penstowan in Cornwall with her teen-aged daughter, Daisy.

She has opened a small catering company, often getting the help of her Mom and a few close friends, to help with jobs. She's also, since the first book, inherited an adorable Pomeranian, Germaine.

The mystery in this novel revolves around the death of an author who had been attending a local festival. His body was found at the bottom of a cliff. The last person to see the deceased was artist, Duncan Stovall, now the prime suspect.

Jodie takes a personal interest in the case after her and Duncan had really been hitting it off together at the festival activities. She can't believe he would murder someone, but if he didn't, that means the killer is still out there.

Jodie can't just leave that alone.

Along with her new friend, DCI Nathan Winters, Jodie digs into the case and finds this one goes much deeper than she ever could have anticipated. She thought she left London to escape from this kind of crime.

Involving the high stakes world of fine art, I thought this installment was a blast. The mystery was interesting and the characters were, as always, so entertaining and well done.

I adore Jodie as a character. I find her to be so realistic and I love learning about her life. It's been a treat watching her journey as she adjusts to life back in her hometown. It's a big change for her from London.

I also enjoy what a great Mom she is and a great daughter. The family dynamics are fantastic. Daisy and Jodie's Mom are always a big part of the narrative and they bring a lot of humor and love. Germaine as well, love that little pup.

This one was interesting for me because I know where Jodie's life is heading, but a few of those big changes haven't happened yet, so it was fun to revisit how it all started.

I'm definitely planning to read the third book, The Perfect Cornish Murder, previously titled A Sprinkle of Sabotage very, very, very soon; as in, probably tomorrow, not gonna lie.

If you love Cozy Mysteries and are looking for a new one to sink your teeth into, I highly recommend this one. There are so many different elements in this series to love. They're funny, engaging, silly, yet well-plotted and intriguing, with great characters and relationships. It's a Cozy MUST!!!

Book 2 in the Nosy Parker cozy mystery series and I couldn’t wait to see what Jodie and her family and friends would be up to in this book!

There is a festival in town with a famous painter as the special guest. After someone falls off a cliff, Jodie has to balance her need to cater the festival with her need to get to the bottom of whether it was accidental or if they were pushed and if they were pushed, why?

In this book, as with the first, I really enjoyed the humour and the realness I felt from the characters. I love Jodie’s mom and I actually think I would read a book starring her and her friends! I liked that I’m getting to know the people in her immediate circle and dont need to be filled in with character traits and background to expect behaviours and actions from them. They are true to their personas and I really like all of them!

The first novel was a 5 star for me and this one could have been if I had more humour, more murder and less romantic variety. Jodie had a literal revolving door of suitors in this one and I wasn’t as keen on the main one and it’s circumstances. The plot concept was a bit tougher for me to wrap my mind around, even Jodie kept saying the details were too complicated for her to understand. That being said, it was still a wonderful read and I will be back for book 3 as soon as it releases!

I would highly recommend if you need a nice cozy mystery, that you join Jodie and see who may have had a brush with death 🖌 🎨

**This book publishes on February 12th and I thank NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the Advanced Reader Copy, I was so excited to be able to read about Jodie and her gang again!**

I liked the first book in this series so I grabbed the second, because I enjoyed the combination of mystery and romance in book 1. Unfortunately, the main character goes from funny in book 1 to completely unbearable in book 2.

Jodie has moved back to her home town in Cornwall after her ex husband cheated on her. She refers to him as “my ex husband aka the cheating swine” whenever he is mentioned.

In Cornwall Jodie has Tony, her childhood friend who is in love with her, and Nathan, the local police inspector who is also in love with her. She has a crush on both of them but can’t decide which one she wants to be with, but also doesn’t want either of them to hook up with anyone else.

Enter Duncan, a famous artist, who immediately falls in love with Jodie and who she also has an immediate crush on. She’s not in love with him, but she definitely wants to hook up with him, and does so.

Here’s where her character becomes unbearable. Duncan is married. His wife is cheating on him, so Jodie justifies her own relationship with Duncan by saying it’s fine because he’s unhappily married. Except she still calls her own ex a cheating swine.

Then it’s revealed that Jodie’s ex husband was married when she first started dating him. She didn’t know for the first month, but she didn’t break up with him when she found out. So, he’s only a cheating swine when he cheated on Jodie?? He wasn’t a cheating swine when he cheated on his wife to get with Jodie? Duncan isn’t a cheating swine for cheating on his wife??
Except then Jodie finds out that Duncan has an open marriage and has slept with other women and omg she is outraged and hurt and devastated. In her own words, she wanted to be the only one. She wanted to be the one who made him cheat on his wife. She didn’t want him to have cheated on his wife with other women before her.

I mean, what????? And she just goes on and on about it, while still talking about her knickers getting loose every time she is with Tony and Nathan, so she would be cheating on Duncan too.

She’s just a really self-centred and selfish character. In the first book she cares about her friends, but in the second book she’s 100% focussed on herself, even to the point her daughter is focussed on her relationships too, rather than on just being a 12 year old.

Won’t be continuing the series.

Many thanks to Rachel for tour invite and author and publisher for providing e-ARC of this book via NetGalley.

It was interesting sequel to Murder on the Menu. It revolved around Jodie’s life and her being Nosey but this time with approval of DCI as a civilian sidekick in solving the murder case of writer from the Penstowan festival. It was about lies, illegal shady business, complicated life and relationship, friendship, and family.

🌷𝙒𝙝𝙖𝙩 𝙄 𝙡𝙞𝙠𝙚𝙙:
- Writing was entertaining, beautiful, and steady paced.
- Jodie's voice was refreshing and witty
- Shirley (Jodie’s mom) was fun more than her daughter this time
- Jodie's monologues made me root for her and even though I didn’t approve her choice I still wanted to support her like her friends.
- Twist and turns were good. author surprised me with twist before end making me partially wrong in guessing game.
- End was lovely, sad and perfect all at same time. I loved recipe at the end.

🌷𝙒𝙝𝙮 4 𝙨𝙩𝙖𝙧𝙨:
- I didn’t like all the complicated relationships and there was not just two but three potential love interest. - All these complications made it less humorous than first book
- it wasn’t as gripping as first book in the beginning and at few points.

🌷Overall, A Brush With Death was delightful, enjoyable, and delicious cozy mystery with lovely characters and beautiful setting.

Another cosy drama set in North Cornwall. This one had giggles, romance, murder, lies, and lots of drama all mixed up into a great story. Any book then writes about 'Bandy Ron' and a 'geriatric ninja' is a winner in my book 🤣🤣 These books are so very easy to read and quickly 2 hours has passed as you follow Jodie's escapades. Highly recommended for an anytime book.

I'm so glad to be back with the second in the Nosey Parker cozy mystery series! Don't worry if you haven't read the first, it can easily read as a standalone.

While she's catering the opening party of Pentowan gala, Jodie comes to the attention of artist Duncan Stovall. Unfortunately, there are a few problems standing in their way, a) he's married and b) he gets accused of the murder of author Robert Holmes. Using her nosey ways she digs into the murder, much to the annoyance of the handsome DCI Withers, to find the culprit.

Like with the first book, Murder on the menu, A brush with death is a fantastic mystery with a great cast of characters, picturesque setting and plenty of fun along the way.

The second book features some great characters from the first, like DCI Nathan Withers and of course my favourite Germaine the dog. I really enjoy the banter between Jodie and Nathan, it made me laugh out loud throughout the novel. I love seeing their relationship grow and I wonder if there's going to be a bit of romance on the cards for these two in future novels!

I would say I didn't feel the mystery wasn't quite as strong as the first, but still very enjoyable to read.

A Brush With Death is a charming and fun packed mystery that I couldn't get enough of. I'm very much looking forward to the next book!

Nope. This is a DNF for me. I really liked the first book and was excited about a new series. Now Jodie wants to hook up with a man who is a suspect in a murder and who is married. Oh, and we find out Jodie was hooking up with her ex-husband while he was married. Okay, having trouble caring about Jodie at all. And her interesting friends, family, and dog? We barely see them. It’s all about the married guy she met a day ago.

Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker may have only been back in her Cornish home town of Penstowan for a few months but her inquisitive, meddling nature has already led her to a second investigation, on this occasion drawing her into the art world and some decidedly shady business dealings. Prepare to encounter murder alongside mushroom vol au vents as Jodie delights fans of this new cosy mystery series with her ability to sniff out dubious characters involved in dodgy shenanigans all within a five mile radius! Any whiff of a scandal and Jodie’s copper instincts kick in! One of the best things about Fiona Leitch’s latest fictional creation is there’s no stomach churning content or a single drop of bloodshed to put you off your dinner! Snuggle up,set aside some snacks to aid your super sleuthing skills and enjoy!

It’s festival time in Penstowan and whilst Jodie may be busy catering for the event she’s still got time to notice the dashing Duncan Stovall, much acclaimed artist of the Penstowan paintings that depict this idyllic Cornish landscape. Taking up temporary residence in Lowenna cottage with glamorous wife Genevieve Lorre, they are both feted as minor celebrities; she is in town to give a book talk alongside journalist turned author Robert Holmes whilst her husband attracts tourists and townsfolk alike to his open house who are keen to catch a glimpse of the artist at work. Add in the presence of Genevieve and Robert’s agent Laura Fulstrop and gallery owner Charles Harper and you have the all the characters necessary to begin this lighthearted, gentle mystery. All that’s required is a dead body and when Robert is found dead at the bottom of the cliffs near Lowenna cottage the finger of blame points straight at Duncan Stovall. Jodie’s heart (and nose!) tell her to consider other possibilities as she joins DI Nathan Withers in the search for the truth. Who else could be in the ‘frame’ for this murder?? Will it take more than a ‘stroke’ of luck to prevent further foul play?

As this latest investigation gathers pace taking the DI and his most willing civilian sidekick around the Cornish coastline I was impressed and surprised by the complexity of the crime in question. Leading the pair deeper into the depths of the art underworld, this mystery sheds light on Duncan and Genevieve’s marriage as well as those within their inner circle ultimately exposing the reasons for Robert’s demise.

Love is definitely in the sea air for our ex copper turned caterer, smitten with the charming and roguish Duncan, yet you can’t help feeling childhood friend Tony Penhaligon or DI Withers would be more suitable matches. Still love is blind and whilst there’s romantic rumblings between the DI it’s too soon to tell whether Jodie will choose to take their relationship beyond the realms of their professional one. For now this officer and a gentleman seems happy to let Jodie assist in any investigation, unperturbed by her presence or tendency to wheedle her way into matters that should only concern the local constabulary. Suffice to say they make a formidable duo! With Tony waiting in the wings he could be the dark horse in the competition for Jodie’s affections but only time will tell and I can’t wait to discover how these relationships will develop. Really that’s the appeal of cozy mysteries; the ability to reunite with familiar, amiable characters whose lives are a source of entertainment and laughter is what keeps the reader coming back for more just as much as any desire to solve the crime. Sunny dispositions, quirky personalities and loyal friendships, endear you to these characters so you feel inclined to follow their lives with interest and with a mixture of mild saucy innuendo, sand and sea air what’s not to love? Although daughter Daisy, mum Shirley and friends Debbie and Tony take a backseat I hope in time the author treats us to more than a glimpse of these supporting characters.

I knew I was going to love this series the minute I clapped eyes upon the enticing covers. This cozy mystery series is comfort reading at its finest; as a child my go to reads were anything by Enid Blyton, especially Malory Towers, St Clare’s and the Secret Seven and I predict I will feel the same way about this series as it develops since the pick me up powers of this author’s writing are second to none. If you think of your favourite indulgent treat then this series is the literary equivalent. With characters you care about and criminal capers that won’t give you nightmares set amid a location that is picture postcard perfect Fiona Leitch has found the winning combination.I just hope the author is a fast writer as I’ll need another fix of Cornish crime very soon! My thanks as always to the publisher and Netgalley for giving me the opportunity to read.

She's done it again! Fiona Leitch has tickled my tastebuds and got me hungry for book 3 in the Nosey Parker series.
Deliciously delightful, book 2, A Brush with Death, is a joy to read as we return to Penstowan in Cornwall and reacquaint ourselves with Jodie and her hilarious shenanigans, serving the community during Arts Festival week, and the finale which ISN'T a fete, it is a GALA, as she makes delectable delicacies in the form of saffron buns and a Stovall painting inspired lemon cake.
Not content with her 70s retro buffet and cake baking Jodie teams up with DCI Nathan Winters to solve the latest cozy crime to hit the Cornish village. Added to her culinary capers and detective dabbling, this time around Jodie appears to be battling her hormones with three, yes three, love interests, and I surrendered myself willingly to the funny internal dialogue she has every time she is with best mate Tony Penhaligon, DCI Withers (and his abs) and Duncan Stovall, the artist renting Lowenna Cottage on the cliffs with wife Genevieve Lorre.
Of course nothing is particularly straightforward and death will taint the Arts Festival week ensuring the crime duo Nathan and Jodie will be busy in action, solving the mystery and bringing the deadly no-gooder to justice.
Featuring favourites Jodie's Mum, Daisy, Callum and Debbie, and Germaine the dog, there is less mention of the Gimp-mobile and her father's police past, but just as much merriment, mystery and marvellous moments to make you smile, laugh out loud and race along to the end.
This is now a series I am committed to with a passion, so that every time I hear of a new book, I will not bother to read what it is about, I will buy it!
I can recommend this series if you love a lighter, brighter read with humorous dialogue, charming characters and a healthy side dish of romance.
The Nosey Parker series is definitely all I need on my reading menu as Starter, Main Course and Dessert!

I was impatient to read the second book in The Nosey Parker series because Fiona Leitch cought my interest with her witty writing and I grew attached to our main charater Jodie Parker and all her family and friends.

It's time for Penstowan to start its Summer Festival, ops my bad Art Gala.
Jodie, our ex cop now catering company owner, is busy organising the catering but when a body appears at the bottom of the cliff she is ready to help the police with the investigation. Is it a tragic accident or is there a murderer among the vacationers?

Jodie is a great heroine, she is smart and funny and her love life is such a chaos you cannot not to be curious what she will finally choose to do.

I've enjoyed this story even if the mystery was a bit easy to unveil and the amorous intrigues took most of my attention..

A Brush With Death is a standalone story and it could be read as it is but I suggest you to not miss out on the first book because Murder On The Menu is a very good and enterteining mystery.

I enjoyed the first book in this series but this one was awful. I read the first half and skimmed through the rest. For a woman who insists she has no interest in a new relationship this is pretty much all Jodie thinks about. The whole affair with a married man that dominated the entire book really put me off the story. I had literally no interest in the murder whatsoever. Not sure I will continue the series.

The first in this series was an easy okay read however this one went off the rails for me. 90% of the book was Jodie’s love life as three men swoon over her. Mills and boon rather than the (cozy) crime I sought.

Highly recommended, a great read!
This is the second book in the series and it sees a return to Cornwall and Jodie “Nosey” Parker.
Jodie is an ex met police officer and has returned to Penstowan her childhood home , and started a catering company. Jodie is catering for the local arts festival and gala , and a murder takes place.
Once again Jodie joins forces with DCI Withers , to try and solve the case.

I love the characters in this series especially Shirley Jodie’s mum , they are genuine and gel well together. I can’t wait to see how Jodie’s personal life and relationships develop in the next book.
The writing is easy to read and free flowing and I read the book in one sitting. The description of the village of Penstowan and its inhabitants brightens up the long winter days, I’m looking forward to the next in the series.

An entertaining cozy mystery to enable you to escape to a coastal location .

Jodie Parker is ex police now a caterer and has a nose for crime. She was called Nosey Parker at school and the moniker has well and truly stuck. There's an arts festival in town and she comes across Duncan, the guest artist and her heart takes a flutter, however Duncan is married and there is more to his wife’s partnership with the gallery owner than first meets the eye. There are some wonderful dynamics between Jodie and others in the village. Nathan the DCI and Tony who in the last book was accused of murder, both of whom she has known since childhood and enjoys a banter with. When a guest writer is found dead near Duncan’s rented cottage and he was the last one to see him alive, Jodie can’t believe that he would have done it, especially when video evidence shows that more was going on. Who would have killed him and why? I really enjoy this series- this is the second one but will happily stand alone. Jodie is someone you could picture as a friend or neighbour who would well and truly stand in your corner. A wonderful story to capture the imagination with a smile along the way. Love these and can't wait for the next one in the series.

A week long festival planned to bring tourists to Penstowan also brought passion, greed, deception and murder. That is how former police officer Jodie Parker once again finds herself using her skills to try and track down a killer. In the process she also ends up involved with a possible suspect.

There is something about this series that draws me in and I find myself wondering what is going to happen even when I am not reading the story. The protagonist seems real and her struggle to get settled again in her home town after a bad divorce feels credible. Thanks to One More Chapter and NetGalley for an ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

When a body turned up at her last catering gig it certainly put people off the hors d'oeuvres. So with a reputation to salvage, Jodie’s determined that her next job for the village’s festival will go without a hitch. But when chaos breaks out, Jodie Parker somehow always finds herself in the picture.
The body of a writer from the festival is discovered at the bottom of a cliff, and the prime suspect is the guest of honour, the esteemed painter Duncan Stovall. With her background in the Met police, Jodie has got solving cases down to a fine art and she knows things are rarely as they seem.
This is the second book in the series & is easily read on its own. We again meet up with Jodie's family & friends from the Cornish village of Penstowan. DCI Nathan Withers is also on hand to lead the investigation & is more amenable to Jodie lending a hand. I love the humour throughout the book & adore Shirley who always makes me smile. The chemistry between Jodie & Nathan is simmering as is the chemistry between Jodie & Tony, then there’s Duncan – Jodie’s certainly popular! A well written, charming cosy mystery. There are twists & turns plus red herrings until all is revealed. I look forward to many more in the series

Kindle Copy for Review from NetGalley, HarperCollins UK and One More Chapter.

I received a free, advance copy of this book and this is my unbiased and voluntary review.

Death at a writer at a festival will have Jodie Parker involved in things the catering.

She will once again stick her nose into the case using the knowledge she learned as a Met police. She knows that all is not what it seems as she dives into the investigation.

It is a charming small town British cozy that will have you dreaming of an English lifestyle.

I enjoyed the second foray into Nosey Parker's life in Cornwall as much as the first installment. She continues to make me smile. It's like everything that could go wrong does, but she still comes out on top and helps the handsome DCI solve the crime!

The characters are well developed. Some of them are quirky, some not so much, but I loved learning more about them!

Thank you to NetGalley and HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter for the opportunity to read and provide an honest review of this book.

Aah. A cozy mystery worthy of the name. This book was like sinking into a warm bath of delight.

The story mostly focuses on our main POV and her life (and love life). It’s almost like a mix between a cozy mystery and the beginning of a romcom plot, all the while set in a charming English town full of wacky side characters.

There’s a lot of humour in this book. British humour is my favourite so I was constantly laughing.

I really enjoyed this one.

The mystery aspect was fun but the romance part was cringy. Why does everyone have to fall for Jodie. The romance between her and Duncan felt forced and with Nathan it feels awkward. For me, it took way from the story.

This is the second instalment in Fiona Leitch's new Nosey Parker Mysteries series, following on from 'Murder on the Menu'. Set in a Cornish coastal town, Jodie 'Nosey' Parker has moved back to her small hometown for a more peaceful life. She has served in the Metropolitan Police force for longer than she cares to remember and is in Penstowan after her retirement along with her daughter Daisy, aged 12, as new residents. Passionate about baking, she wanted to own and run her own catering company so she has retrained as a caterer, setting up Banquets and Bakes.

In this instalment, the Penstwowan Art Festival is looming. Well-known artist Duncan Stovall is a special guest and his work is being featured as part of the festival. He and his glamorous wife, Genevieve Lorre, are staying at Lowenna cottage and Genevieve will be giving a book talk alongside journalist turned author Robert Holmes. When Robert is found dead at the bottom of the cliffs near Lowenna cottage the finger of blame is pointed in the direction of Duncan Stovall. And so Jodie finds herself juggling murder and mini fruit scones.

This is a riveting cozy, rich in mystery, intrigue and deception. The police are called in to investigate and Jodie is eager to offer her expertise and help in whatever way she can. I continued to warm to the character of Jodie and found her extremely down-to-earth, with a terrific no-nonsense attitude. The lead detective, DCI Withers is amenable to Jodie helping out and she shares the details of what she's gleaned with him.

Fiona Leitch's writing style is imaginative and the story has a great flow. The author did a brilliant job of transporting me to the Cornish countryside and I felt the rustic charm whilst easily visualising the chocolate-box setting. It is refreshing to have a sleuth in a cozy that is not an amateur as this brought depth to the tale. Love is in the air for ex-copper turned caterer, Jodie, smitten with the roguish Duncan, though childhood friend Tony Penhaligon is still around and there's the odd romantic rumbling from DCI Withers who's happy to let Jodie assist in the case unperturbed by her presence and wheedling into police matters. I enjoyed that all of the vivid characters had something to contribute to the story and this engaging mystery was a pleasure to read from beginning to end. Very highly recommended especially if you like your cozies with a delectable dash of romance.

I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from One More Chapter via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.

The little town of Penistowan is holding their first arts festival (don’t call it a fete) and Jodie is ready to cater to the needs of guests and organizers. Known for her curiosity and never looking at situations as everyone else (and a previous history of help in an earlier case) has Jodie adding questions and hours of thought above and beyond her own worries for catering to the menu.

My first introduction to this slowly developing story as both the place, characters and Jodie’s relationships with friends and family is building, also brought us an instant attraction that was hard to deny between a visiting famous artist and Jodie, and the never-ending tension and questions that seemed to arise with him and his relationship with his also famous wife. When a body goes over the cliff, and the behavior of some of the spectators to the festival is more than a bit suspicious, the story spins into a two-parter: discovering the secret that the artist is hiding, discovering who pushed the author over the cliff, and Jodie needs to discover just what is between her and the newly arrived DCI - is that just sparks in proximity or is there more?

Not having read the first in the series, there wasn’t a ton of adjustment time needed to meet the characters or feel comfortable in the setting: Leitch did a good job with providing just enough backstory to introduce her characters, and the dialogue went a long way toward fixing their personalities and relationships in ways that felt natural and plausible. The setting of the place as well as the influence / interference of the locals added to the small town/village feel and allowed us to see how Jodie’s familiarity with her childhood home also influences and sometimes deters her from action, albeit momentarily. This was fun, funny and clever – and while the red herrings were frequent, the reveal of culprit and secrets desperately hidden was entertaining and well worth the read.

I received an eArc copy of the title from the publisher via NetGalley for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.

This is the second book in the Nosey Parker series by Fiona Leitch.

Jodie has met who she thinks is “the one”. Problem is… he is married! Duncan is everything she wants in a man. Then someone falls off a nearby cliff and it looks like Duncan might have been involved. So Nosey Parker gets involved.

There is a bit of relationship angst in this book. She can’t decide between Nathan the cop, Duncan the artist or Tony the best friend. She is a lot wishy washy in that regard. Glad she is better at mysteries than boyfriends.

I am really enjoying this series. It is interesting and it really keeps your attention. I was captivated by her budding relationship with Duncan wondering all the while would he be a new recurring character. The mystery was nice but it was the people that kept me reading. Loving Leitch’s character set here. So me!

Loved so much about it. If you like cozy mysteries, definitely check this one out. You won’t be disappointed.

I received this as an ARC (Advanced Reader Copy) in return for an honest review. I thank NetGalley, the publisher and the author for allowing me to read this title.

When ex-detective, Jodie Parker, is hired to provide the catering at her local art festival she has high hopes for a successful week which will help with her fledgling company's reputation and bank balance. The village is full of art lovers and the sun is shining so what could possibly go wrong?

When a body is found Jodie can't resist living up to her nosey nickname once again, much to DCI Nathan Withers resigned acceptance. With the clues all pointing in a direction she doesn't agree with it's up to Jodie to once again put her investigator's hat on and prevent a miscarriage of justice. Can she do so before anyone else loses their lives and still fulfil her festival responsibilities?

This is the second in the Jodie 'Nosey' Parker series and already the main characters fit together nicely and play their part in making this such a pleasure to read. Fiona Leitch has the ability to write laugh out loud cosy crime with an edge and this book is no exception. There are hints of problems to come for Jodie and her maybe, maybe not, attraction to Nathan which was definitely confusing her this time.

Set in Cornwall, a county I know well, it is a pleasure to read all the little snippets of how it is to live there which slip effortlessly into the main storyline to add to the realism. Add to this a regional recipe at the end of the book narrated in Jodie's inimitable style and this book is a pleasure from beginning to end.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this thanks to NetGalley and the publishers but the opinions expressed are my own. This is a welcome escape from reality and I loved it.

Romance is definitely on the menu in book two of the Nosey Parker Mysteries. Jodie determined to make a success of her new catering business secures a civic function but not unexpectedly, things don't go to plan. It's lust at first sight with Duncan a local artist, but unfortunately, he's married and a suspect in the village's latest death. Her relationship with Tony, her childhood friend, is strong, but her new friendship with DCI Withers is tortuous though, they do move closer to a professional understanding.

Humour underscores the cosy mystery plot with memorable contributions from Jodie's mum and our catering detective's internal monologues. However, it's the romantic relationships woven into the plot that dominates this story. The mystery is more straightforward than in the first book but still entertaining, and the character development and dynamics keep the reader invested in the story.
