The Black Holiday started like any other Christmas.

Mere months after returning from the world of Skye, Alex Fossor is hoping for a quiet Christmas holiday with the undead flesh-eaters and blood-drinkers he calls family. But the sudden reappearance of an enemy the Rimbault Society never thought they’d face again propels Alex into a bloody running battle with no escape in sight.

The witch hunters of old have returned to settle a score they’ve been plotting for decades, turning the Society’s own power—its magic—against itself. As the body count rises and innocent people are caught in the crossfire, Alex has to fight tooth and claw to survive his relentless pursuers.

For the sake of protecting those who matter to him, Alex must take up the Society’s banner—the same people that have kept him under their heels for years. Skye made him a warlord, but will it be enough to turn the tide against a genocidal army wreaking havoc across the globe?

I was wondering how Alex Fosser's next adventure would go after traveling through dimensions or layers to a whole other world. How could something back on Earth still be as fun and exciting? Gallows somehow made Alex's next adventure just as action packed and thrilling. Can Alex and the Rimbault Society survive the Witch Hunters? You'd better hope so, otherwise there won't be a book five. I highly recommend this book, just like I do all the others in the series.

I received an ARC copy of this book for review purposes, but my thoughts and opinions are my own, and I ended up buying a copy of it anyway.

Here is my review of Conquest, Book 4 of the Alex Fossor, Necromancer series written by M. G. Gallows.

I was offered the possibility to get a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I would like to thank M. G. Gallows for that. I have known the author for his short stories in the world of Malifaux (Wyrd Games' miniature game). I was curious to discover the author's personal universe.
So I must say I hadn't read the previous books in the series and you should know that wasn't a problem. The chapters follow a timeline but can be read independently. Of course I would advise to start from the first book but you won't have any problem understanding this book if you don't.
So, I had a great time reading this chapter. What I enjoyed the most was the world building. It's super rich, super original. You can feel the author has many many references from movies (Inception, Terminator,...), history (the Illuminati), superheroes and I would also say from miniature gaming. The characters are really designed visually.
Another aspect I really liked was those action scenes that are really fun, always take place in original places and are told with a lot of rhythm. The main character controlling corpses is a must !
Dialogs are also fun to read.

I wish this series and its author a lot of success. It's refreshing to read something really new and original.

This is one seriously action packed book. I truly believe that there is zero room to pack any more. Alex seems to careen from one catastrophic battle to another within moments. All the while sustaining injuries that would fell any normal person. This was absolutely fantastic! I can’t wait for the next one!

An excellent continuation of the series, and a proper escalation of the stakes for the characters involved. One of my favorite things about this series, is that not a character is wasted. Well fleshed out supporting characters, intriguing villians, and a great main character. Looking forward to the next one already!

WOW! this had more twist, turns, action than a county road. Friends, allies, frenemies and enemies. Talk about a Timex watch kind of person? Takes a licking and keeps on going. Makes it seem like he is hard to kill, and one tuff cookie!

I love this series, and this was the best yet. The author appropriately describes it as his main character's "wham" episode. I could not stop reading it.
