Two coaches. Two teams. One championship. All of the hairspray (and drama).

College cheer coach, Holly Morgan, sacrificed her own cheer dreams to be a mother. She's spent the past eighteen years building a name for herself at Langley Cunningham College while raising her daughter. Now, Alexis is off to Pride. Holly's entire life is her team, and that's fine with her. The small town dating prospects are slim, anyway.

Everyone in cheer knows Sasha Hamilton's name. Her stunts are legendary and her follower count in the millions. People have big expectations from her now she's hung up her pom-poms and taken over as head coach of Pride College. Sasha's life has been cheer since she was seven, coaching is the natural next step for her. Except, she's not sure she's going to be a good coach, or even if she wants to be.

Sasha is a huge fan of Holly, Holly's a big fan of Sasha, but somehow they get off on the wrong foot. It's going to take some kind of cheer miracle to get them on the same side, especially when their teams are sworn rivals.

Y-A-Y!

Holly, a cheer coach for LCC, meets cheer sensation Sasha when her daughter Alexis starts attending Pride College. At first, Holly isn't pleased that Sasha seems destined for success and suspiciously wants to help her fundraise for her own team after Holly learns funding is being cut. Working together Holly realises she has more in common with Sasha than she thought and cannot resist exploring her feelings.

This was so good! It had a light enemies to lovers theme, even though both Holly and Sasha secretly admired one another. All the misunderstandings between them brought great tension and awkwardness to their first few meetings but with Alexis between them, they had invested interest in getting along and doing what was right for their teams. When they started spending time together, they really sparked and I loved how in getting to know one another they learned more about themselves and what they truly wanted from life.

Sasha's interfering mother was a genius addition, making things more difficult for Sasha at every turn. Holly's struggles really made me sympathise with her, and as other things added to those, I admired the way she remained focused and thankful at all times. Sasha gave her that little boost she needed to remain hopeful and several times they both surprised me in how they acted or the choices they made.

I loved every second of this! Getting invested in both teams' journeys was so much fun, and there were so many cute moments that I had nothing but hope that everything was going to work out for the best for Holly and Sasha! Hopefully there will be future stories for these two as an exciting future awaits.

Cute age-gap romance (3.5 stars)

SAPPHIC BOOK BINGO: sports romance, coming-out story, favorite trope; UNICORN: safer sex (possibly other categories)

The story had a great premise, and I liked it, for the most part. Thankfully, I read the author's note at the end where she asked for forgiveness for US inaccuracies because there were several. Any non-US reader might not have noticed them, but US sensitivity readers aren't hard to find, and that content could have been easily fixed. There were many grammatical and punctuation errors - including repeated words in the same sentence. Readers that aren't bothered by those kinds of things will enjoy the novel.
