Where to start on this trio of underwhelming books...
The audio format I listened to may have made things a bit tedious since it was one narrator, and the same narrator. She was capable enough, but her sometimes ridiculous voices and slight lisp could get old. Still, I think the audiobook was a solid format as I was able to listen while doing other things and not get so bored with the vanilla storylines as I probably would have stuck reading page after page.
My likes: These were decent romances if overly formulaic and lacking in any sort of originality.
My dislikes: This series (and perhaps the author, as I have yet to read anything else by her) seems to write for the lowest common intelligence. Themes and things were explained over and over and over again (and not just from book to book to catch readers or newcomers up, but within the same story).
Also, all the parents in these stories seemed to be villains or schemers. Was there not one admirable older person?
Then, there were so many points I found suspicious, unrealistic, or downright puzzling. Examples:
1) Why did Chase feel compelled to drop out of college when his brothers were teenagers and almost fully grown. I'm a working mother of boys and I fault Raina for not insisting he stay in college. Of course, then we wouldn't have a story. (And I guess she does fess up to this at the very end.)
2) In the third book, the family secret that supposedly could tank Michael's career is laughable. That is NOT a scandal. I found it impossible to believe the DC spin doctors didn't seize on it as potential gold since they could have painted the senator as a knight in shining armor rescuing a pregnant woman and raising her daughter as his own. DUH. Just DUH! The motivating factors in all these plots lacked so much believability. I think this was my biggest complaint.
3) Why is Sampson described as and old man throughout the first two books (and given grey hair in the third) when we learn he actually around 45 years old -- only 7 years older than Chase!
I have to comb through my notes for other issues. There are many, but all the secondary characters got on my nerve in this series--every last one of them.
Pass.
