John Bytheway says, "As a teenager, I heard certain statements from my mother almost daily, 'Wash your hands,' or 'Go ask your Dad.' What I didn't realize was that hidden within these everyday phrases are basic teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ and a formula for a life of joy and happiness. It dawned on me one day that everything I ever needed to know I had already learned at home."
Bestselling author John Bytheway takes a break from his normal youth audience and spend a few moments encouraging LDS moms in this live recording. Listeners will be inspired by the author's unique insights as he shares the many lessons he learned within the walls of his own home—gospel lessons that will uplifts, comfort, and motivate all of us, especially moms.

Loved this short book by John Bytheway filled with excellent reminders that we know how to connect with Heavenly Father and we know what to do to prepare for that eventual day that we will meet Him. I love his outlook on things and how they all fit together and I like the way he delivers his messages in an uplifting and encouraging way.
In John Bytheway fashion, this book is uplifting and humorous. Great message for moms to hang in there and remember our relationship with our Heavenly Father.
This is a short and sweet message for moms (it’s only 50 short pages) but it is a fun an interesting message. John Bytheway gets the difficulty of parenting (like how DOES a mom not think she is a second-class citizen when the world tells her staying at home and scraping up macaroni and cheese off the floor is a waste of her abilities) and is able to provide some context for the importance of what moms do in the home. I wish it would have been longer and more in depth, but it was a fun, short read.
I’m convinced John Bytheway can’t put a book out that I won’t like. I always close the book feeling inspired and my testimony in Christ rejuvenated. I love the simplicity of comparing lessons he learned at home with what the gospel teaches.
What John says is true. There are so many things we learned at home, tidbits of wisdom and inspiration that have their roots in spiritual things, if we just knew how to look at them that way. John shows you how in this small but powerful book.
Big things come in small packages! I was so impressed with John Bytheway's book. I never imagined that he could pack so much into such a small book. I found myself flying through the pages and then going back to re-read certain passages. I love how he related things we say at home like "Help your sister" to remember that we are all spiritual brothers and sisters and we need to support and help each other, not compete with each other. He said in his book, "But I believe that Satan knows he's not going to destroy the Church from the outside in. His efforts, I believe, will be more focused on causing contention from the inside out." How true that is! I could quote several other passages that struck me and have helped me to gain insight. I was completely uplifted from his gospel comparisons to everyday expressions used in the home. I am honestly grateful I had the chance to read this book, I know it is one I will turn to again and again! I received a copy of this book for free, this is my honest review.
In my opinion, mothers and fathers are the most amazing creatures on earth and yet there is no more challenging role on earth than being a parent. And when one takes on the most challenging job on earth, one is bound to get overwhelmed and discouraged on a regular basis. It can be a thankless and never-ending task. While a book like this can't take away the challenges, I believe it can help remind the reader of the great importance of what he/she is doing and they are doing more than they realize to help their children progress. Brother Bytheway takes some pretty common phrases that mothers say and explains how they very much apply to spiritual growth and development as well as mortal growth. I think my favorite section was where he took the statement, "Go ask your dad" and applied it to going to our Father in Heaven to ask for help and guidance. He reminds us that God will "run to" us and help us all he can. An inspiring and comforting read.
Talks given at Time Out for Women have been preserved in a sweet, gift-size book.
Messages to be read and pondered and read again just when you feel you need some Time Out.
We learn so many things at home like:
*Wash your hands *Change your attitude *Clean your room *Help your sister *Ask your Dad *Come and eat
Using scriptures and stories John Bytheway expounds these things to take on a spiritual learning.
REMEMBER "Every day, with all the little things you do in your home, in what may seem mundane, routine, and unexciting, you are actually teaching the gospel."
What have you learned at home? What are you teaching at home?
Reading this it sounded so familiar... Figured I must have listened to the talk live but just realized it was because I had read this 5 years ago.
Great Talk by John Bytheway. He takes things moms always say and relates them to the gospel. Wash Your Hands Change Your Attitude Clean Your Room Ask Your Dad Help Your Sister Come and Eat
I was given this book as a gift and thought it was just some cheesy feel good thing, much like the cover. however, then I noticed the author and decided to give it a shout. yes, it is simple and straight forward, but it's true and I love that he references scripture so much. I would read s little each night and it always helped put me in a positive and hopeful mood.
I read the book for this, and didn't listen to the Audio. John Bytheway offers practical advice for your everyday life while intertwining with scriptures advice. Great, uplifting read.
