Archaeologist and museum curator Scarlett McCormick and her friend Allie Preston go to Greece on vacation, meeting up with Scarlett's academic colleague, Martin Greer. Martin is part of a team that's excavating an ancient Roman shipwreck. He says there's something suspicious about the company he's working for, and he invites Scarlett to come to the site with him to help him figure out what's going on. But before her visit to the site, Martin is murdered, and the only clue he leaves behind is an amulet, which he gives to Scarlett before he dies. The police think the incident was just a robbery gone wrong, but Scarlett disagrees. She's sure his murder is related to the work he was doing, and she and Allie are determined to find answers before they become victims themselves.

Reading a novel in a sunny Greek setting felt like taking a little vacation in the middle of winter. I enjoyed the coded main clue, and Scarlett and Allie's attempts to solve it.

The change of location eliminates the cat from this tale, which may put off some cat lovers. But it refreshes the series to go along with Scarlett and her friend, Allie, to Cyprus and see the characters interact in a new venue. The mystery kept me guessing till the end and the character motivations were believable. But, once again, everything is explained by another character at the end, which always earns a one star deduction.

But, I enjoy the series as I can always count in no swearing, sex, graphic violence or blasphemy. A solid cozy series so far.

Buried Secrets by Sophie Harper is a good archeology mystery. It’s part of Annie’s Museum of Mysteries series. Only this cozy takes place in Greece and Cyprus and under the Mediterranean Sea.

Scarlett McCormick, an archeologist and the curator of the Reed Museum of Art and Archaeology in California, journeys with her friend Allie Preston to Athens. Martin Greer, Scarlett’s friend, is a dive archeologist on a new find off the coast of Cyprus, an ancient Roman shipwreck. Martin feels there’s something suspicious about this research “dig.”

When Martin is killed, Scarlett and Allie go to work to uncover why. The Greek detective feels it's just a case of robbery gone wrong. Scarlett knows better.

The author layers in the clues and red herrings expertly and holds the reader’s interest until the end. There is danger and tension at every turn. If you are looking for an enjoyable cozy mystery and want to learn a bit about Greek culture and archeology, then Buried Secrets by Sophie Harper is the novel for you.

This was such a well written book. All the suspense and twists and turns kept me almost forgetting to breathe at times. A shipwreck, a mystery, an amulet handed to a friend before he dies ... all that and much more!
This is book 2 of the Annie's Museum of Mysteries. I appreciate that various authors are writing the books because I am discovering new writers which I really enjoy.

Interesting mystery with a fun locale made this an enjoyable read. The mystery was good and I liked the element with the book Martin purchased before his murder. I missed Luke, Cleo and the rest of the museum gang but the story was still a good read.
