When Silver's parents are murdered in front of her by the people she's trusted for years, she flees the fae realm and begins a new life pretending to be human.
More than two years later, she's almost allowed herself to believe she's safe—until the night someone from the Guild shows up.
Ash.
The boy who was once her best friend. The boy who tried to kill her.
He's on the run now as well, after discovering the same secret that led to Silver's parents' deaths. Or so he says.
The forest they grew up in has become a dangerous place, crawling with fae monsters, and Ash claims he needs Silver's help. The discovery her parents made years ago could be the only thing to save their home.
Silver knows Ash is only using her—he's a guardian, after all, and they're the ones who took everything from her—but she can't turn her back on the home she still loves.
And so she forms a fragile truce with the boy who broke her heart. She steps back into the world she swore never to return to and sets out on a dangerous path to unlock the secrets of the past.
But neither Silver nor Ash are prepared for the true horror of what they will find lurking in the shadows of Stormsdrift.

A new story, new characters, and new monstrous fae. Return to a beloved fantasy realm with a new series in Rachel Morgan's bestselling World of Guardians.
Once upon a time, in a land not so far away, a young science graduate named Rachel found that the real world wasn't a place she wanted to inhabit all the time. So she decided to escape into the magical realms that had occupied her mind since childhood.
Armed with a vivid imagination, Rachel spends her days conjuring up fantastical worlds filled with adventure, romance, and plot twists, where readers can escape the real world along with her.
Rachel lives in Cape Town, South Africa, with her husband, two little wildlings, and three fur-babies.
"Have you also lost the people you love more than anything in the world?” “I lost you!”
“You loved me before then.” I watch the color rise in his face, but he doesn’t look away. “I have loved you forever,” he says simply.
Omg omg omg this book was everything I didn't know I needed.
It was soo good! So unique and I enjoyed it so much!
The world is so interesting and the writing is done so well!
The story follows Silver, she's a faerie hiding in the human world because some events that occurred 2 years ago. Everyone she once cared about think she's dead.
Until suddenly Ash, the boy who was her best friend and betrayed her when they last saw each other, finds her.
Ash tell her things are bad at their home, bad things are happening and he needs her help. Silver isn't sure whether to trust him or not, but she decides to help him with one small thing and then to part ways again...
So much is going on, there are a lot of secrets and plenty of mystery to uncover. Ash and Silver don't know who they can trust. It gave hard vibes of 'It's just you and me against the world' and I loved it.
The story is told in dual timeliness, the past of Silver's childhood and growing up with Ash, and the present of their journey. I really liked that in the past it was told in third person and in the present it's first person. It was such a good idea to make it like this. That way you still read the past as Silver but you're not as close to her as in the present and you don't confuse between the timeliness. I also managed to enjoy both times a lot. Even though at some point one time ended in suspense and then we switched, I could withstand it because I was interested in the events of both times.
I love Silver so much, I think she's a great protagonist. She's been through a lot but she's still strong and smart and keeps her head clear. She's very mysterious and has a few secrets she keeps that we slowly - very slowly - discover.
“What did they tell you?” I will take this secret to my end.
“Some stuff happened straight after I fled the Guild, and I wasn’t in a position to go looking for it. And after that was over, I just… I needed to move on.”
Ash is also great character. From the first moment he's trying to get close to Silver, to know what she's been through in the 2 years he thought she was dead. We didn't have his pov and I constantly tried to get into his head and imagine what he's been through - thinking that his best friend was dead for years, and trying for years to reform his life without her, to then realizing she's actually alive but doesn't want anything to do with him. I was hurting for him trying to imagine his years after losing her.
“We’re not doing this.” “Not doing what?” “Not catching up on each other’s lives like we’re old friends.” “We are old friends.” There’s an edge to his voice that might be anger.
“No words exist in any language to describe how much I missed you.”
“She isn’t you!” he shouts.
Their romance is full of tension. Some times were full rollercoaster rides and at times I was reading and I was so chaotic and anxious and unhinged I swear I was reading my notes and it's so funny so if you want go read my highlights I promise you'll laugh (some are probably spoiler so at your own risk)
“I see right through you, Silver Wren.”
This moment, right here with Ash, his arm around her and his gaze burning into hers. She wanted this forever.
By the end of the book I was so afraid because I had so few pages left and still so many questions unanswered. Technically it looks like the main problem is over but there's still so much to uncover and more secrets about the courts and who can we trust and what happened with Ash in the years he was at the missions and obviously the last big reveal that I still don't quite sure what it means.
Can't wait for the next book!!!

Secret identity, childhood friends to lovers to enemies to lovers, second chance romance with dual timeline, mystery AND its all in a fantasy world with faeries?! Where this book has been all my life?? Istg it's better be good
From Storm and Shadow is the first book in a new YA series, Stormfae, and will have you glued to the pages. Transported to a world filled with magic, fae and well-kept secrets, the reader is in for a treat. Silver's parents were murdered by people she trusted. Deciding to flee the fae realm, she tries to start a new life pretending to be human but someone from her past makes an appearance and everything changes. Ash discovers a secret that has led to several deaths and is now on the run. He knows no one will understand what's happening except Silver, hoping that bridge isn't burned, he goes in search of her and is met with more than he bargained for.
I buddy read this book with @abooktropolis01 and was hooked from the first chapter. With a dual timeline, stunning interior design and a plotline that has you addicted, FSAS will definitely have you reading till late at night. What makes this book interesting is the deadly secret that caused several deaths, the fact that Ash tried to kill Silver and two years later he is needing her help. You can just imagine how that scenario will play out. Friends-to-lovers aren't high on my favourite trope list, but Silver and Ash is the exception. I loved them! I was rooting for them the whole time. It's best to go into this book blindly, you will not be disappointed.
You know that feeling you experience after reading a really good book, appreciating the plot twists delivered at the right time, the perfect pace and well-written characters, just having an overall satisfied feeling - I experienced this after reading this book. FSAS deserves all the stars! I can't put into words the different emotions this book made me feel. I have the urge to do a reread because I'm missing this world. This book ends on a MAJOR cliffhanger, completely unexpected! I need the next book now. I need to know what happens 🤯
This is the first book I've read by Rachel Morgan and will definitely be getting into her other series. Her writing is phenomenal and her ability to make the reader fall in love with the characters and the story itself is exceptional. I highly recommend this if you're a fan of YA fantasy, friends-to-lovers trope or fae. Many thanks to the author for gifting me a copy of this book.
Well I picked this book by the method of closing my eyes and sticking a finger into my iPad library. Lol. And I have to say I’m very glad, I am not familiar with this author’s previous novels, I might definitely check it out later, so this was a completely new experience for me. The beginning was a bit slow, I wasn’t sure if I’m going to continue with it, but the writing seemed solid and the book was super long(like 500 pages) so I thought to continue, I pushed through the first 100 pages or so, and then it really picked up. By the half I couldn’t put it down. Silver isn’t the most mature character and she does do a variety of not very smart things along the way, but she does mean well, and Ash is adorable, he is the kind is hero you want to have in your book. There is a cliff hanger, something I don’t usually like in books, let’s hope the second one isn’t too far away, I don’t want to have to forget what happened here.
𝘽𝙤𝙤𝙠 𝙍𝙚𝙫𝙞𝙚𝙬: From Storm and Shadow is a YA fantasy and is the first book in the Stormfae series.
I truly enjoyed the whole concept of past and present dual timelines. The flashbacks of Silver and Ash really added depth to the story, whilst at the same time keeping the reader on their toes, especially when inserted between ‘edge of your seat moments.’ I’d also like to make mention of Silver’s character growth throughout this book. Silver’s world was knocked completely upside down when she lost absolutely everything ~ her parents, her home and her hometown, but through this all she was brave and determined to keep pushing forward. She relocated to the human realm, whilst on the run from her past and grew in both her strength and skill set.
FSAS held my attention from start to finish and I found it truly refreshing to read a book from a local author here in South Africa. This book was packed with mystery, suspense, romance and action, particularly in the last 20% and I absolutely loved the plot twist!
I think the ending of the book was done really well, just a small cliffhanger to keep you hooked in anticipation for the next instalment.
𝙍𝙚𝙖𝙙 𝙞𝙛 𝙮𝙤𝙪 𝙚𝙣𝙟𝙤𝙮: ✨ YA Fantasy ✨ Dual timeline ✨ Fae ✨ Friends to lovers to frenemies to lovers again ✨ Second chance ✨ Plot twists
𝙁𝙖𝙫𝙤𝙪𝙧𝙞𝙩𝙚 𝙌𝙪𝙤𝙩𝙚: “No word exists in any language to describe how much I missed you.”
𝙍𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙣𝙜: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Thank you so much to @authorrachelmorgan for the #gifted review copy of this book and an amazing PR box.
Oh my FREAK!!! I have no words. Okay, I have a lot of words. But how to put them into sentences, I have no idea.
I’m officially a big Rachel Morgan fan! I read her Creepy Hollow series—which is really good—and this is a brand new series that takes place in the same world but years later. Who doesn’t love faeries, monsters, crazy powers, and action? Oh yeah, and a super dreamy friend who betrayed Silver.
The further you get into the story, the more answers you get. It’s like a beautiful puzzle that suddenly makes sense. And that ending!!!! Gahhh!! I’m wrecked and am so sad, but I loved it.
If you haven’t read any of the other books, this could still be your entrance into the faerie world.
"No word exists in any language to describe how much I missed you."
FSAS was easy to get into as it dives straight into the action. We get a dual timeline which takes us from the present back to the past. There were times when the "then" chapters would interrupt the flow in reading but they do provide us with a greater insight into Silver and Ash's past as well as provide us with lightbulb moments for the "now" chapters so I understand their importance.
As someone who isn't the biggest fan of friends to lovers, I have to admit that I'm 110% on board with these two. The "then" chapters were so fun and we get to see how Silver and Ash's relationship changes through the years. I would love to dive into Ash's head and get a few chapters from his POV (FYI there are bonus chapters from his POV) that take place in the present.
I feel that if I went into FSAS after reading Rachel's other books set within this universe, I would have had a deeper understanding and appreciation for the magic system and world building. It's a personal opinion but I always feel that more world building happens with a dual POV.
I love the world that Rachel has created and my mind is running with the possibilities of what's going to happen in book 2.
One of the first things that stuck out to me in From Storm and Shadow was the magic. I loved how you could procure beads that when used can activate charms, you can use magic and even pull weapons out of the air! It was just so mesmerizing and sucked me into the story.
Our main character, Silver, is a total badass! She’s witty, brave but she’s been through a lot. The time jumps were really effective in showing us how certain events that happened in the past shaped the present Silver.
Our love interest, Ash, is a teddy bear who will do anything for Silver. Whilst I loved seeing their moments of friendship (yes it’s friends to lovers!) in this book, I really hope to see more tender moments between them in the next one!
The ending. The twists and revelations. I did not see them coming! My heart was aching for Silver. She’s really been through a lot and I fear that the worst is yet to come! I just need book 2 already because I need to know what happens next.
Reading the bonus scenes in Ash’s POV put the biggest smile on my face. It definitely bumped the rating up a half star because it was just that good!
A huge shoutout to the author Rachel Morgan who is a local, South African author (there’s not many around) for gifting me a copy of this YA fantasy book!
Honestly this started out pretty slow and I was convinced I would DNF but my goodness did it pick up randomly in the middle and it was AMAZING. Like so so so many twists and turns and I just couldn't stop reading. This is a 4.5 star read for me. Just a slow start but hang in there it is well worth the wait!
4.5 Stars- No spice-Very light spoilers- Read as an ARC I was so happy with this book. The characters, the world, the magic system, and the creatures in this book were all interesting and unique. While some books that jump between the past and the present can become confusing, this one did not. Every time there was a flashback it was with a purpose that gave the reader and the characters information on what was currently happening. The main characters went from friends to enemies to lovers and everyone seemed to have a secret they were trying to hide. If you enjoy YA fantasy and anything else listed above you will enjoy this book.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This was my first Rachel Morgan novel, and I can say without a doubt that it will not be my last! This book was fantastic! It has mystery, suspense, action, romance, a fierce heroin and a sexy hero.
Silver's life has not turned out like she expected it would at all. She was forced to run away from her home, and leave everyone and everything that she loved after suffering an unreal tragedy. She's no longer the carefree, adventurous girl always up for a challenge. Now she's constantly looking over her shoulder, and suspicious of everyone. She thinks she's finally somewhat safe, until Ash, her childhood best friend comes crashing back into her life. He needs her help. The love she once felt for him has changed into bitter suspicion, and she wants nothing to do with him or her old home. However, the decision is made for her the further we get into the book. The deeper they get into their adventure the more answers she gets to the questions that have plagued her, unfortunately though those answers raise more questions. She also begins to realize that maybe Ash deserves a second chance.
Rachel keeps the action coming in this book. I loved the inserted flashbacks into Silver and Ash's childhood, and how they gave us a more in-depth look into their relationship. The biggest thing for me was Silver's growth throughout this book. Admittedly, I did not care for her character at first. She was mean, rude and harsh towards Ash, and he could not do a single thing right to her, even though he saved her life multiple times. My heart honestly hurt for him several times throughout this book. However, as Silver begins to realize that things may not have been as black and white as she remembers them, she also realizes that she wasn't the only person that lost people they loved. For me the best character in this book hands down was Ash. This man was out of sight understanding and patient with Silver. He was brave, strong and a protector through and through. And the man brings the swoon factor!
I highly recommend this book! You will not be disappointed.
Why more people aren't talking about this book, I don't understand.
If you want to read a book with a "Shadow hunters vibe" and with a family as warm as the Weaslys, then this might be a book for you!
The story was draging a bit at some parts but overall I really enjoyed reading about Silver's and Ash story both in the present and in the past. There are so many heartfelt moments between the two!!!
The book surely took twists and turns I really didn't expect. On more than one occaision it had me saying "WHAT IS GOING ON?!"
It ends with a cliffhanger even if it isn't too bad 😅
Ummm… I’m not sure how I feel about this book… it was good, but the ending was a bit confusing, and I did not appreciate that cliffhanger… I wish there was more information on what this “monster fae” type thing is… but I guess it’s a book 2 thing… I probably won’t be continuing this series not only because there hasn’t been an announcement on book 2, but also because I just don’t feel a connection with silver and ash… this was just okayyyy 🤷🏼♀️
I am a voluntary ARC reader and this is my honest review of "From Storm and Shadow." This book was beautifully written and Rachel Morgan was very detailed in her world building. As a reader it felt as though I was submerged into the world and all its fantastical flora and fauna. It felt like I could see the raindrop curtain that Silver would pass through and I found myself wishing I could just touch it. The relationships in the book between the Blackburns, Silver, Teddy and Duke were very relatable and realistic. I loved being able to watch Silver struggle through these relationships because of the trauma she had to endure and her difficultywith seperating the past from the present. Rachel Morgan also foreshadowed some of the twists very nicely. When the twists were revealed, I had the biggest ah ha moment. All in all this book deserves the five star rating that I gave it. It kept me up well past 2AM. I just couldn't seem to put it down. Hopefully book 2 will be released very soon!
I enjoyed the more YA feeling of this book. The world, the characters and all of the dramatic events keep you hooked! It definitely started picking up more for me about halfway through 📖 I also loved the suspense, the mystery only being revealed in the very last line 🤯 the time jumps were cool but I do wish that they weren't so frequent.
I received an arc for an honest opinion. After just the first chapter I was drawn into what the possible story could be between Silver and Ash. I was on the edge of my seat pouring through chapter after chapter. It’s definitely a different take on fae then what I have read before. Very refreshing. The story keeps you captivated and the story building between characters is perfect! Cannot wait for book 2!
This book was my very first ARC and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. Normally I am all in on anything smut related, but this was surprisingly nice. I didn't expect to get this much out of a book that isn't one I normally read. I'm in love with everything Silver and Ash. The world was everything I could have asked for. I love the elements of magic and the inner workings of what the guild is/was supposed to be. I liked the flashbacks we got of how Silver and Ash met and grew up. Overall this was a fantastic read with plenty to keep you pulled in and needing (or demanding) answers. I actually decided to do a re read and started it immediately after finishing it lol I felt like I didn't get to really savor it how I should have and also like I might have missed a few things. This is a book you should take a chance on and read. You won't be disappointed 💕
First and foremost, I want to thank Rachel Morgan for the ARC of her newest book. FROM STORM AND SHADOW, STORMFAE BOOK #1.
I am a a big fan of the world of guardians and Rachel. This book took me back to the guardians' and brought back so many memories of when I started reading fantasy fiction. The suspense build up was amazing, and I was on the edge till the last page.
I really liked the character of Silver, and how she handled her past trauma and got overwhelmed with the memories of her parents, because it showed how volatile and explosive emotions can be and we saw her dealing with them in a very human way.
I loved Ash. Thats it. I loved his and Silver's relationship. The angst, the yearning, the pulling back, everything just 😩.
However at some points of the story, it did not trouble me to put it down for a while. In my past experiences with Rachel's writing, i have had trouble putting down the book but ig thats why it took me longer to read than usual.
All in all, totally recommend it, FROM STORM AND SHADOW comes out on 24th May and is available for pre-order on Amazon.
Welp. Goodreads decided to remove my review from my list. Don't remember much about this. Very much based on the Shadow Hunter series. Lots of plot holes.
I love the guardian universe and this new stormfae series is so promising. A heroine you have to love despite her flaws, a swoon worthy love interest, friendship and family, and twists that you won't see coming. For the fans familiar with the creepy hollows books, there are some side notes but nothing you need to have read before.
I can't wait for another book!
Just read the bonus scenes from Ash's point of view ... I'm in love 😂
I am a Creepy Hollow fan. That being said, this review is NOT influenced by my liking for the Creepy Hollow Series.
This is a new series by Rachel Morgan set in the same fictional universe as Creepy Hollow but completely separate from the stories of Violet, Calla and Emerson. So let's dive in to the review.
When you pick up the book, you'll not be able to put it down. It's that GOOD! I enjoyed the book from start to finish. Rachel Morgan's has, as always, given us a completely wholesome book and at the end, you'll be wanting more. I absolutely loved the way the book progresses. The Then and Now alternating chapters. Some present chapters ended with such mindboggling cliffhangers and then the next chapter was set in the past, that kept me on my toes. And there were times, I wanted to get to know some details and couldn't wait to get to them, so it was a bit frustrating that they came later on, but I WAS SATISFIED.
Rachel has done a phenomenal job of creating a new world-Stormsdrift, I mean how cool is that name, anyway. Everything has been described in such detail, it's almost like you are there with the characters. I also loved the cover of the book and although didn't think much of it initially, I definitely appreciated it so much more after I was done with the book.
Somewhere along the book I was kind of expecting the ending, but it was still a surprise the way it came, as always. I cannot wait to get my hands on the next book and see how Rachel is going to take the storyline forward, because I can guarantee it's going to be interesting.
I loved Ash's character and would have been heartbroken if things had gone any other way. I would however like to get a little bit more details of his perspective of the Liberation Day Ball night. Because I feel something is missing there. I want to know what was going through his mind that night. So, I am definitely looking forward to his side of the story in the coming books.
Oh, my precious Silver girl, you were AMAZING, BRAVE and CLUELESS. And at times I wanted to smack you right in the face, and shake some sense into you! But I adored you from the get go. I mean who doesn't like a girl who can kick ass! But I still cannot believe after everything you been through, you would do what you did at the end. Like Whyyyy???
I still have manyyyyy unanswered questions and cannot wait for the next book.
If you are new reader, I wouldn't say you can't read the books, you will still enjoy it 100%. But you'll miss out on certain references. Nothing major, but every subtle references I am sure Creepy Hollow readers squealed over. And I can guarantee once you read From Storm and Shadow, you'll have 9 books from the Creepy Hollow series to keep you company, because you'll be wanting to read them. Creepy Hollow readers will loved it because well, it's another book set in the Fae realm. Do we ned any other reason? And come on, we have all been wanting to read more of it.
Go ahead and read the book, you'll not be disappointed!
If I am being very technical, its a 3.85 but I rounded it off because have you ever gone into a book where you can trust NO ONE?
Well, Rachel Morgan made me so sus of everyone and I was giving everyone funny looks through this whole book because I was waiting for someone to knife me in the back...again...
Betrayal and trust is a major theme in the first book of the Stormfae series and the characters are what really keep you around even with all the twisty plots and storyline. Mostly looking at you, Ash.
The characters are so unique and each has a distinct personality, which is why I enjoyed them so much even though (mostly Silver and Ash's dynamic and relationship), but I desperately wish for more exposition about the world that these wonderful faeries live in. The Seelie Court and Unseelie Court mean nothing to me in this world but maybe it will be expanded upon with the rest of the series.
Their magic did give me a little of Shadowhunter vibes with the stylus and their ambers that they use. This is complete personal preference though because I didn't like this part so much because it wasn't clear how the magic worked, how much they relied on it and I didn't like Shadowhunters so I didn't like this part so much.
There were a few things that I didn't like in the book, the biggest one being that I felt that this would be more appropriate for young teens and teenagers rather than Young Adult and that is solely because during many of the situations Ash and Silver find themselves in, I would definitely drop an F-Bomb 💣 or two. And I am a lady. I do not cuss unless completely necessary.
There were a few unresolved issues that I'm hoping will be better explained in the future, but otherwise, I would highly reccomend this to young readers who are looking to dive into fantasy and magic. It will probably be right up there on my reccs into Fantasy, right next to Harry Potter.
Thank you for the great read, Rachel Morgan! I can't wait to see what Ash and Silver get up too, and where the Stormfae will take us!
From Storm and Shadow is an amazing new YA Fantasy story about a young faerie named Silver, because of her gorgeous and unique silver and white hair, who lost her parents at 16 and was forced into hiding. The Guild murdered her parents the night of the Liberation Day Ball and she's been on the run ever since.
Two years later, she goes into work only to be ambushed by a Guardian she thought she'd never see again. Ash was her childhood best friend and he betrayed her that night by trying to capture her using his magic. Ash was told she died that night in a horrible fire and was shocked to find her alive. Silver runs and Ash tracks her, starting a whirlwind of a story that jumps back and forth through memory and reality to piece together what really happened to her family and why Stormsdrift is being attacked by horrendous monsters that started when she ran away.
Personally speaking, I loved Silver's character. She was brave and challenging from the beginning. But to lose everything, start over in a human realm, and survive while gaining strength and skills on the run? I think she's an awesome and fierce female main character. Ash is a good male character but I wouldn't call him a main. While he and Silver were in this together, and each had their part to play, he always felt a bit secondary, like a helper. I feel like Silver could make this journey without him but having his support made it better. Seeing their friendship evolve through the past and seeing the possibilities of their future relationship is an exquisite balance that could be tipped either way. The ending was *chef's kiss* because it was a nice, soft landing instead of a major cliff hanger. It is obvious that there will be another part to this story but as one door closes, another one will open elsewhere.
*I was given an advanced reader copy. This is my own personal review.*
This book is based in the same world as Rachel's Creepy hollow series which I adore and read some of back in like 2015 (wattpad) What I only recently found out is that Rachel Morgan is a South African author!🇿🇦 I was lucky enough to receive a review copy of #fromstormandshadow, thank you Rachel ❤️
This story has Dual timelines which switches from the past to the present. It is written from Silver's POV (I'd love some of the events from Ash's POV🥺)
This whole book deserves more than 5 stars! The writing was so easy to get into and it was so hard to put this book down and adult 🥴 I loved being back in this world and it's magic system which was built so creatively. Also not mention many chapters ended in cliffhangers that literally tested me and my ability to put this book because life was calling! 🤧
There's so many questions I'm still left with! I need book 2 😭
If you're looking for a YA fantasy series that will keep on your toes and blindside you when you think you know what's happening... THIS IS YOUR BOOK! 🥂
It has: - Faeries - friends to lovers to enemies to lovers - second chance - plot twists like you wouldn't believe - a 'touch her and I'll kill you scene' that I almost yeeted my book across the room when I read it! 😏
Rating : ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐(all my stars)
Also, South Africans, did you know you can get a signed copy for only R199 on Rachel's store? Link in her bio on insta 💜
Ps. While this is only book 1 that's released, if you're in love with this world as much as I am... Go check out Rachel's Creepy hollow series!- the first 3 books is the battle with Draven that's mentioned in this book!
When I saw Rachel Morgan was writing a new book, relating to the Creepy Hollow universal, I knew I had to grab it immediately. I binged the entire series after finding a copy of the first books of Violet's story in the local library.
Firstly, the cover art is absolutely stunning. I know they say don't judge a book by it's cover but this is too gorgeous to ignore and reminded me of the special edition hardbacks of the CH series too.
So, I fell in love with Rachel's writing style with CH and it's matured into this New Adult style and I'm living for it! The story is told from Silver's POV, a fae who is considered dead until her childhood friend finds her one night. The plot kept me gripped the entire time and I was glad to be thrown back into this world and completely immersed. The imagery was just perfection. We learnt about Silver's past the same pace Ash did, which totally added to the drama. There were twists and turns that left me guessing, like that betrayal. I was so mad. There were some predictable (for me at least) moments at times, but not in a bad way. The only negative I had was forgetting about Vivienne, and when she appeared I couldn't remember her. The ending was a gut-wrenching cliff-hanger, especially after cheering on the love interest for 400+ pages.
I am still recovering after reading those last few pages. Or better said, after reading plottwist after plottwist and shattering everything I thought I knew about this world. After staying up way past midnight to continue reading, because it is impossible to put down. After laughing, smiling, crying because of everything Silver has to go through.
It's hard to put down in words but I enjoyed this book so much and I cannot wait to continue with Silver's story. She is not only a badass, she is also vulnerable and not afraid to make the hard choices. The way Rachel Morgan kept me at the edge of my seat with flashbacks revealing Silver's past and all the adventures she and Ash go on in the present, is amazing. There are constantly little droplets of information that make up the whole story and they are very well hidden (as an experienced reader I am proud to say that I noticed some - just that a small thing might be important, not how this would work out in the story). Overall this is one of my favorite reads this year so far so I highly recommend it to anyone who likes fae, magic, portals and monsters. Go read this. You'll be thanking me later.
Can I give this more than 5 stars?!? Oh my goodness but I loved everything about this book! The adventure, the love, the heartbreak, the mystery, the twists and turns...well, everything! Ms. Morgan immersed me in this world, bringing me back to the land of guardians and fae and once again proved that she is a master at weaving just the right amount of adventure and emotions. It's been a while since I've read fantasy and I feel like this was the perfect way for me to return to this type of story. Ms. Morgan's writing paints a clear picture that your mind can easily conjure and with each page I found myself feeling like I was actually in the story with Silver and Ash...and the monsters made my heart race just as much as the emotions between these two. The obstacles they needed to overcome to trust each other again kept me glued to this book and I really enjoyed seeing both their present and their past. I must admit that there is one thing I don't like...the wait for the next book...ugh...I need to get back to Silver and Ash's world right now!!! Dear Ms. Morgan, please write as fast as you can!!!
