USSS Special Agent Zane Thacker has landed his dream assignment protecting the president of the United States. When the president plans a fundraiser at the exclusive estate of a political supporter in Raleigh, Zane is thrilled to be working again with Special Agent Tessa Reed, his best friend--and the woman he desperately wishes could be more.
Though Tessa almost lost everything, she battled her demons and came out on the other side healthy and healed. But when her role as the liaison between the Raleigh office and the president's protective detail wrenches her past back into the present, her greatest failure threatens to come to light.
Zane refuses to let Tessa go through this alone. But can he stand by the woman he loves and protect the president from a mounting threat at the same time?
Sparks fly as award-winning romantic suspense writer Lynn H. Blackburn closes out her Defend and Protect series with this explosive tale of secrets kept, lies exposed, and relationships restored.
Under Fire is the third book in the Defend and Protect series set in Raleigh, North Carolina where we get a glimpse into the lives of the local US Secret Service agents. The president is heading to town for a fundraiser at the home of a friend and there is much to take care of to prepare. SS Agent Tessa Reed is heading up the preparation. They have possible threats to vet as well as getting the site and route ready. Her best friend SS Agent Zane Thackery is in town from DC for the event. Just friends but both are interested in more. This brings on some stress in addition to the stress of the president's visit. The threats are not just directed at the president, but it seems that someone from her past has it out for Tessa. Something only Zane and Tessa's boss know about. This is a book with a multilayered plot, mystery, suspense, danger, and romance interspersed with faith and friendship. This series is about a group of close friends who work and play together and have each other's backs. That is evident in each book and even crosses over with friends from the Dive Team Investigations series. Another winner for Lynn Blackburn and recommended for those who enjoy romantic suspense with a faith thread. I received a copy for the purpose of an honest review. These are my thoughts.
This book might actually be my favorite of the series! With Tessa and Zane being teased throughout the entire series, it was so cool to be able to finally dive into their story.
I really appreciated how tactfully Blackburn handled topics like alcoholism and relationship issues and physical attraction with tact and while still highlighting the ways her characters were able to make the hard decisions to do the right things in those areas.
Total fangirl moment… I really loved Tessa and Zane. I felt like their slow-burn relationship, the way they really complimented each other and how they made the decision to be friends first was so well done and encouraging. The suspense and story was great and Blackburn was able to create a female character that held onto her dignity and femininity while still being strong and smart in her own right, all without all of the feminist garbage.
It was a truly solid read and one that you will enjoy and love if you get a chance to read it! If you are a fan of romantic suspense, this one does not disappoint! The characters were well written, the story a page turner, and the characters, banter, and dialogue something that kept me smiling even when the story itself and the suspense was amping up.
The mystery was layered and fun to uncover with the characters!
I have really enjoyed this series very much. I have really been looking forward to Zane and Tessa’s story and I was not disappointed at all. The plot was great and the characters well done. My thanks to the publisher for a copy of the book.
Another epic romantic suspense novel by Lynn H. Blackburn!
I was glad to finally get to read Zane and Tessa's story, and it didn't disappoint me. Both Zane and Tessa were sympathetic characters, and their shared backstory added a lot to this novel. I enjoyed seeing the characters from the previous books in the series as well as characters from the Dive Team Investigations series. I'm excited to read Blackburn's next series (which will hopefully include some appearances from the characters I've already come to know).
Plenty of suspenseful moments and high stakes kept me reading right along. I did find myself a little confused during the part where the villains were revealed. Maybe I missed some clues or was reading too fast. I appreciated Lynn H. Blackburn's clear, fast-paced writing style and that she kept both the romance and the language clean.
Overall, Under Fire was an exciting read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.
Disclosure: I received this book free from Revell through Interviews & Reviews. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a positive review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.
Lynn has done it again. This book is a poignant and touching love story wrapped in side a pulse-pounding suspense story. The layers are deep and rich. I've wanted this story since the first book in the series, and I can ;t wait to read the book she teased at the end. If you want a sweet and compelling love story but you also want intense action, then this should leap to the top of your TBR pile.
I love Lynn H. Blackburn’s romantic suspense books. I’ve read them all because she keeps me engaged, entertained, and trying to figure out how it will all work out.
In Under Fire, the reader finally gets the story behind Tessa and Zane’s friendship. We’ve seen them hate each other and we’ve seen them be friendly. But in Under Fire, we see everything. Y’all, this book!
I loved this story. I was so hooked on their romantic backdrop that I kept turning the pages. Fortunately there were also some suspense elements that made me eager to turn the page as well. And the ending, well it hints at a new series to come and I’m all for it.
Ms. Blackburn is a must-read. If you’ve never taken a chance on her books, correct that today! You don’t want to miss the last book in the series.
*This book is number 3 in the series but can be read as a standalone in my opinion.
**I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley. My review was not required nor influenced.
*I enjoyed this story so much the first time around, that I decided to listen to the audio version this time. It was a lot of fun to listen to.
Sometimes there are books that I have been anticipating for so long, that when they finally release and I get a chance to read them, I am underwhelmed by the story. Probably because I built it up too much in my mind beforehand. Well, that isn’t at all the case with Tessa and Zane’s storyline! Under Fire far exceeded my expectations.
The exact relationship between Tessa and Zane has been in question since book one of the series. It was clear that they were friends, yet were they more? Or were they fighting? What kept them from making a go of a relationship together? These questions are all answered in this series finale and done so in a beautiful way. I simply loved it from start to finish and am already wishing I could read it again for the first time. I guess I will settle for re-reading it.
I loved the romantic tension between Tessa and Zane, and seeing how close their friendship was, even long distance. My heart hurt for them when theirs did and rejoiced when theirs did. If you have read the other books in the series, I think you will appreciate the complicated history these two have. However, you could probably jump in and enjoy this book even if you haven’t read the others.
Another thing I really enjoyed about this novel was seeing how these Secret Service Agents planned and prepared for a presidential visit. The author kept it interesting, while also injecting day by day tasks for the various agents. I have liked that aspect in all of her novels, which always include romance, danger, and friendships with characters you will wish were real people.
I received a complimentary copy of this book but also purchased my own copy. All opinions are my own.
Another quick and absorbing book by Lynn Blackburn. I am always anxious to see what the agents/friends are up to. After a job change for Zane as security for the President, he is back in Raleigh as part of an advance team because the President will be visiting old school pals at a nearby estate. Although Zane has kept in close touch with his buddies, it is Tessa he longs to see in person. Tessa is heading up the detail to coordinate everything for the visit, including checking viable threats and vetting the people on the guest list. The story showcases what is involved with the process and is not short on other perils that pop up to split the concentration of the team of agents. Tessa and Zane are trying to keep their relationship in the friend zone due to some background issues in each of their lives. But that is not working too well as the danger escalates. I appreciate the bonds created by the team and how they look out for each other, especially how they pray for God’s guidance and protection. The teasing and good natured meddling makes them seem like a big family. The ending hints at new cases to come in a new setting. I can hardly wait. *A complimentary copy of this book was provided by Revell through Interviews and Reviews and Revell Reads. I was not required to post a favorable review. All opinions are my own.*
The long-awaited book with Tessa and Zane's story is finally here. While I did really enjoy the book, it ended up not being my favorite of the three. The suspense and action were a lot slower for the most part, and the romance was way up. It was perfect for those who love the will-they or won't-they get together books, with special looks, pet names, and kisses. I tend to prefer suspense over romance and this book was definitely a romance over suspense. I still really enjoyed it, and I really appreciated the touching on alcoholism. Overall, it is a book I recommend and will probably enjoy again in the future.
Oooohhhh this ttteeeaaammm!!! I LOVE THEM! So. Much!!!!!
Lynn is a WHIZ at crafting the most loveable, found families that you just wish were real so you could have weekly dinners with them!!! Their chemistry, camaraderie, banter, protection, love…just blended together to make the greatest team!
Tessa & Zane. Oh we all KNEW they had a separate connection, and we waited with bated breath to figure what caused their back & forth, hot & cold dance. And WOWZA. Wasn’t expecting the raw, brokenness that caused it.
I loved the solid support Zane was to Tessa throughout everything! And how open & honest they were with each other. Their friendship was sweet! They worked through everything together, and they had hard conversations! I loved that they didn’t shy away from that. And when they finally acted on their feelings…fireworks!
Both Tessa & Zane were broken, hurting people! They worked on themselves, but really were better as a team. A happy unit.
AND THE PRAYER!!! I love how effortlessly it just flowed in the story. It was so ingrained in the characters that it was first instinct to take every situation before the throne. BEAUTIFUL! 👏🏻
As always this story hit the ground at breakneck speed, and didn’t stop until the last sentence of the epilogue. (And even that had me rubbing my fingers together in potential anticipation)
While I ADORE the team, and thought this was a great wrap up for the Defend & Protect series something about the amount of people threw me off. There were a lot of characters running and playing parts in this book and it had me confused a few times. (And not just suspects, but agents as well) I had a hard time keeping track of everyone and it pulled me out of the story from time to time. BUT! There were some good smokescreens in there, and some people that make me hope for a HEA for them!
Really loved the real, strong, broken humans that Lynn writes! She’s FABULOUS! An absolute favorite!! 4/5 stars
*I received this book from the publisher**All opinions are my own*
This is the last book in the Defend and Protect series. It is Tessa and Zane's story, and I loved it. The suspense and the romance were both done well. As with the other books in the series, I just loved the characters and how they had each other's backs no matter what. I will definitely be reading more by this author.
We finally get the story between two characters we met in book one and learn there is history but we don't know what that history is but that history is revealed in this book. The suspense did keep me guessing with what was happening, however I cared more about spending time with the characters we had previously met earlier in the series. This was not my fave couple of the series, but I did enjoy following their relationship progress in a positive direction. There was a character that appeared that had me so confused on who they were but after doing a bit a research it turns out I missed a novella. The reveal of who the fixer was shocked me, I was completely expecting it to be someone else. I like the way the book ended and leads into her next series. Will that series carry over characters from previous books? I sure hope so.
Blackburn ended her latest series on a high note! With fast-paced action and a glorious romance, the last page left my heart full. She set up a new series and I’m looking forward to that. Highly recommend!
Lynn Blackburn is one of my favorite suspense authors and this third book in the Defend and Protect series is fantastic. Under Fire centers around the duties of the Secret Service with a few FBI agents thrown in for good measure. I was so absorbed into the story I could hardly put it down. 5 stars!
USSS Special Agents Zane Fletcher and Tessa Reed have their hands full trying to prepare against any and all threats against the President during a visit to Raleigh, North Carolina. Tackling that mission, in addition to their developing relationship fraught with personal land mines, keeps these two very busy and on high alert.
I love that Blackburn's characters deal with real life issues including addictions, and she doesn't shy away from talking about the potential they have to do a lot of damage if not kept under control. The suspense and mystery involved kept me turning pages as fast as I could. I especially enjoyed her wit and humor, "You kissed that girl and she didn't throw you off a high-rise. Congratulations!" Zane chuckled. "Did you expect her to throw me off a high-rise?" "Not if you did it right."
Under Fire is a fast-paced, spine tingling, edge of your seat suspense readers won't want to miss! I'm looking forward to Blackburn's next series that Tessa and Zane introduce in the epilogue set in Gossamer Falls in western North, Carolina. I appreciate Revell Publishing making a copy of Under Fire available for review. All thoughts and opinions are my very own.
The story of Zane Fletcher and Tessa Reed is one that had to be told. Their attraction to each other in previous books in the series was apparent but they had decided just to remain friends. Their decision is brought into question in this final book in the series in which Tessa is the lead agent in charge of protecting the President when he plans a trip to Raleigh. The President’s plans bring Zane back to Raleigh in order to liaison with Tessa. The chemistry between these two alternated between humorous and deadly serious as Tessa’s life is endangered because of events from her past. The characters are realistic, presenting a fascinating character study that pulled me into the story quickly. The plot is well-crafted with multiple layers involving the keeping the President safe, the President’s old friendships and reason for his visit and Tessa’s past that she thought was buried but has come to haunt her. The twists are clever and satisfyingly complex, creating a plot that is tightly woven and constantly crackling with tension between Zane and Tessa. With a fast pace and witty dialogue, this book kept me engaged with its intricate plot threads that were brilliantly woven together into one action-packed book. This is an addictive suspense that includes a developing romance that sparkles with laugh-out-loud banter between the two protagonists. Filled with warmth, humor and the creative complications that add to the pleasure of reading, this book is one not to be missed by fans of action-packed romantic suspense. Although it is part of the Defend and Protect series, this book can be read and enjoyed as a standalone. Disclaimer Disclosure of Material Connection: I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author as part of her launch team. I also received an e-copy of the book from Revell via Netgalley as part of the Revell Reads Blogger Program. I was not required by either entity to publish a positive review. This was a very nice book with a gorgeous cover. Kudos to the cover designers!
There was a lot in this book I loved, one thing being this is Zane and Tessa's story that we finally get the scoop on lol! Also, all the action, the planning, the intrigue, the elusive villain, the hilarious shutdown of a certain character who thought way too much of himself..
It definitely made for a story I could hardly put down except to pause because the action and pace was so intense!
The team banter was a riot as usual, and we got to see more of the couples we met in the previous two books, Luke and Faith, and Gil and Ivy. The relationship and romance of both couples was realistic, but not the Hallmark cheesy "perfection" that I loathe because it's honestly just not true to life.
Also, Tessa's fight scene with the villain was wildly funny.
I really like the way the group worked through the problems that were thrown their way, not trying to do it all on their own but realizing they had teammates and friends in high places for a reason.
Thank you to the author and publisher for the complimentary paperback and launch team goodies I received as part of her launch team. It's been a pleasure to serve on the team. Thank you also to the author, publisher and Netgalley for the complimentary e-book I received. A positive review was not required of me and the thoughts above and below are my own.
Negative elements & trigger warnings
In the opening scene, a female character wakes up in a roach motel with no shirt on, but otherwise she's clothed. This was not of her choosing, as we later find out she was drugged.
Tess mentions when a job was finished that she wants to curl up on the couch with her bodyguard and sleep till Monday. It doesn't actually happen though. While they're friends, and he's been looking out for her, that just isn't quite right and made me cringe.
Since the first book, there was this chemistry between Zane and Tessa and readers had to wait until the final book in the series to see what is keeping them apart.
This book had emotional depth due to the subject matter of alcoholism and the effects on those dealing with the disease and especially those with loved ones which struggles with this addiction. I felt that the author tackled this subject with the hard facts but also sensitivity.
The suspense kept my attention, but I did wonder about the plausibility of it and the ending was a bit mellow for all the hype in the beginning.
There was a few loose ends, like -what is the reason that Bruce lives on the street – there was the expectation of more coming for this reader.
This was a great conclusion to the series. I loved the characters from the Dive Team Investigation series playing roles in this one and hope these secret service agents will pop up in future series as well.
*I received a complimentary copy from the publisher. All opinions expressed are my own.*
*sigh* Honestly...this book was a disappointment. Don't get me wrong, I was definitely hooked through most of it, but yet at the same time, it...fell flat.
Book one released in 2021, book two in 2022, aaaand since then, I kinda totally forgot which character is which. I didn't think it would be a problem, since books tend to stick in my mind and I've never had an issue with mixing them up, buuuut as I started reading Under Fire and got everything mixed up, I came to the unfortunate conclusion that none of the characters were actually unique enough to keep them separate in my mind.
I loved Zane. I loved his protective nature and the way he was determined to keep Tessa safe and accountable even while he tried to let her have her independence. His faith was a big part of him, and I LOVED the camaraderie between him and Luke. (Although the repeated use of the word 'bro' kept throwing me off...maybe I just live in a backwards community, but I've never heard the guys in my life actually use the word repeatedly? I think it was mainly the term 'bro hug' but it just...*shudders* made me uncomfy for some odd reason)
Tessa was honestly such a lovable character. Her desire and determination to honor God and overcome her past was inspiring, and her struggle to be independent yet reasonable was relatable, haha.
The plot was super engaging, and while I thought I had the bad guy pegged from the beginning (I generally have a knack for that - I listen to a lot of Dragnet *cackles*), I...was completely wrong. Not that I wanted to be right about it in this case, but the real culprit seemed kinda out of the blue? I'm not gonna complain about it too much though, since there were twists and turns I didn't see coming and that just improves the book immensely, in my opinion.
I did, however, get about 95.7% fed up with Tessa/Zane drama. Gave me a headache.
The whole reporter guy thing (Lloyd? Leonard? I know neither of those are his name but I can't remember his actual name *cough*) creeped me out and I think it was totally unnecessary buuuuut just my opinion.
In conclusion, the quality of this review kinda sums up the whole book: some parts were good, some parts weren't so good, overall it was just meh, in my opinion
*I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher for promotional purposes. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
I have loved this series and the characters so much! It’s hard to say goodbye (although I have hope that we’ll get glimpses of them in the new series). This book was so perfectly paced with the romance given the history with Zane and Tessa. And oh gosh… I loved their romance. The suspense was a bit less action-packed in this one but still really good. We get an inside look at a presidential visit. And it is so much fun getting another glimpse of the Carrington crew! Definitely recommend this one to fans of romantic suspense!
* I received a copy of this book from the publisher via NetGalley. All thoughts are my own and a positive review was not required. I’ve also pre-ordered the book for my keeper shelf.
This one has some darker elements than the first two, including attempted, not detailed, off page assault. But I still really enjoyed it. The friend group here is the best, and I loved Zane and Tessa as a couple.
Loved this story!! Under Fire, book #3 in the Defend and Protect series is amazing. I laughed a lot, and I couldn't stop turning pages in this captivating romantic suspense. Tender, yet full of action, layered, perfectly paced, funny, and pitch perfect.
A few of my favorite quotes: "But whoever was behind these attacks was either an evil genius or a few crumbs short of a biscuit." "We all have a few skeletons in our closet. It takes far more bravery to pull them out and own them than it does to keep them hidden and pray they never come to light."
The story of US Secret Service agents Zane Thacker and Tessa Reed is a long-awaited story that does not disappoint! They have their hands full trying to prepare against any threats against the President who will be visiting Raleigh, North Carolina soon. Zane and Tess also navigate their complicated friendship, love, and a past that may stand in their way.
I can't recommend Under Fire enough! Absolutely loved it. Thank you to the author, and Revell Books for allowing me to read an advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.
Wow! This book was just everything that I had hoped for! Under Fire is the third and final book in Lynn H Blackburn’s Defend and Protect series. I have loved Blackburn’s books since I picked up the first book of hers that I have read, and this book was just as good as her other books. Oh my goodness, Tessa and Zane! I was so excited to finally read their story and there was so much to unpack. The romance and suspense and faith were the perfect blend and kept me reading! Tessa was a whirlwind and there was just so much to learn about her. It was so interesting to read about her. She had a lot to work through, but it was sweet to see her learn to rely on God. I loved reading about her interacting with Zane and falling in love. I loved how strong and capable Tessa was. I also adored her relationship with the guys on her team, it was sweet. Tessa had to learn to let others in and to rest in God’s plans. Zane was also amazing! He was such a sweetheart and I adored him! He had fallen for Tessa hard but they had their issues to work through. Zane had to learn to trust Tessa and what it looked like to care for Tessa. Zane was such a wonderful and strong character, but he did have his own past to work through. Romance was sweet and I loved the development. Blackburn wrote a wonderful friends to lovers romance. I was rooting for Zane and Tessa from the beginning. The suspense was also so engaging. I was on the edge of my seat as I read this book, I did not want to put it down. It was so good that I finished it in a day. One thing that I always love about Blackburn’s books is how she weaves in faith so well. These characters are human, they make mistakes but they also learn to trust God. Blackburn portrays characters that feel real who are learning what it means to rest in God who is in control no matter the circumstances. Under Fire is amazing and thrilling! I would definitely recommend this book, it needs to be on your TBR! I would recommend this book to those who enjoy suspense books, probably at least 13 and up because of the suspense. Under Fire is a clean Christian suspense romance.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the publisher through Netgalley. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, a positive review was not required.
Special Agent, Tessa Reed, is a take-charge, spunky woman, but also finds herself a target. She's in charge of protecting the president, along with her team and the threats kept coming.
The storyline is engaging, and I found myself engrossed in the story from the beginning. I loved the seriousness of the team, but also enjoyed the playful banter. There was an underlying sweet romance brewing which added tension to the story. The characters were very well-developed.
The ending wrapped up everything nicely. The pace of the story was quick with non-stop action and intrigue. I simply couldn't put it down. Highly recommended.
I received an ARC from the publisher and willingly choose to review it. All opinions are my own.
The Raleigh office has been through a lot and the team has held together and has each other's backs through thick and thin. This story is about Zane and Tessa, two agents who hadn't found their footing until they recognize their friendship has deepened to something more.
Tessa's addiction to alcohol got her into trouble years ago, Zane's mom struggled with the same leaving him with wounds and a hard time trusting. A horrible, unsolved moment from her past comes to bear on their current assignment as the president comes to town.
The camaraderie between the characters makes you feel you're among friends. And if you've enjoyed the previous stories, this will not disappoint!
*A big thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC and the opportunity to post an honest review.
This was a book worth waiting for from the 'Defend and Protect' series. The story could stand alone but you are going to want to read all the other books as they tell the back stories which are illuded to over the course of the book.
I enjoyed the mystery in the story but also the romance which has been hinted at in the prior books in the series. The plot concentrated more on character development rather than a high thriller component. This didn't take away from the book in my opinion. I really enjoyed it.
I liked that the characters didn't rush into a relationship given the heroine's back story. So many times in books, these details are glossed over and solved in what seems like a minute. I'm pleased that Lynn did not take the easy route - I feel that it paints a more realistic picture.
I receive complimentary books for various sources including, Netgalley, Authors, and other such sources. I am not required to write a positive review and have not received compensation.
This is the third book in the Defend and Protect series and I found it a great way to wrap it up with Zane and Tessa’s story. I struggled with most of this book, but I also could not put it down.
While, the previous books, “Unknown Threat, and Malicious Intent”, talked about Zane and Tessa, it wasn’t until now we learn more of their backstories. From the moment we meet these two in Unknown Threat, you know there is a connection between them. After understanding more about their background and their hesitant nature, it was good to see them connecting more in this book.
As I am been intrigued with learning more about the Special Agent task force, I really felt the threats that were talked about in this were not really a focus of this book. It was more thrown in and the ending was a bit confusing as I had to keep reading it to make sure I understood what I was reading.
Towards the end of the book, there were also a lot of other characters from previous books that I had to try and remember who they were and their relationship to this story. I felt the ending was a bit confusing with the epilogue.
I would like to thank NetGalley, Revell, and Lynn H. Blackburn for this advance copy for my honest review.
Okay, so you guys already know that I LOVE this series, and… this one just might be my favourite!!
We finally get Zane and Tessa’s story and it more than lives up to expectations! It’s the perfect balance of great suspense and a sweet friends to more storyline that doesn’t, I repeat, DOESN’T have miscommunication as the reason they aren’t together yet (cue all the 😍 from me!!).
Plus, she really drops a gritty edge to the story that takes it a level up from just your typical romantic suspense. She gives us a story that is deep, gritty, suspenseful and sweet all at the same time!! (And this is the point at which I drop a note that this story does deal with alcoholism a little bit, so if that’s a touchy issue for you, feel free to DM before reading so you know what you’re in for!)
And I adore both Zane and Tessa! They’re both such wonderful, sweet, good hearted characters, and yet both so broken and flawed. I love that they show that those two things are not mutually exclusive.
Honestly, nothing but love for this story & I can’t wait for more from this author!!
Thanks so much @netgalley and @revellfiction for the ARC. I was only asked for an honest review, and here you have it!
Finishing Under Fire has me feeling like I need to go back and reread the rest of the series because wow did I miss so much. I always felt there were undercurrents of Tess's story in the previous 2 books, so this book was one of my highly anticipated reads for 2023.
I said it before when I read her first book, but Lynn Blackburn is becoming an author to watch for! I don't read that much suspense anymore. That's because I went through a phase where that's all I read, and they started to get too predictable for me. But this book - and this series! - manage to include the perfect amount of realism, humour, and deep topics that stands out from all the other suspense books I've read.
I really enjoyed getting to know Zane and Tessa better, and I thought the journey of their friends-to-more relationship was one of the best I've seen in fiction. It felt very realistic and not rushed at all. Both characters had concerns and needed to work through some issues together but it was so well done. I'll miss the family-type dynamics between the team, but I'm sensing we'll be returning one day based on that epilogue!
Content Notes - 'Mild' swearing (I remember one use of 'crap' but forgot to mark any others so this might be the only one). Okay, so I have thoughts on this and since I'm noticing this more and more in Christian contemporary novel, I want to address this. It bothers me a little as it seems the standards are lowering. I know it doesn't bother most people, but I don't like seeing how liberal the language is becoming. 'Set apart' means not conforming to the world, which is what I feel like happens when milder forms of language slips into our Christian fiction/nonfiction. - Potential spoilers ahead, although it happens right in the prologue: - Tess struggled previously with alcohol and had gone through rehab. .
Another captivating read from one of my favorites! I have been waiting for Zane and Tessa's story for quite a while and it did not disappoint. As a fan of NCIS, Zane and Tessa gave me a definite Tony and Ziva vibe which was fun. The mystery of this one kept me guessing and it has all the banter and humor I have come to expect from Lynn as well as one of my all-time favorite casts of characters. I love the friendship this crew has and am more than a little jealous over it! I adore all of Lynn's books and this one is no exception! Another lovely addition to my keeper shelf of my most favorite books!
