In The Lord Bless You, Terry A Smith has written a brand new 28-day devotional style book to explore the path to blessings whether it be us receiving a blessing or being a blessing to someone else. He began the book by looking at how we say bless you when someone sneezes. It all started when Pope Gregory the Great chose to have people to say a prayer and include God bless you when you sneeze. At the time, they were dealing with the Bubonic Plague and this caused sneezing and would lead to a fatal sickness. He shared how the Bible contained the words related to blessings more than 500 times. In the book, he drove deep into the topic of blessing and it’s divided up into four sections: blessing, purpose, people, and gratitude.

He began the book by looking at Adam and Eve and how they sneezed and entered into the fall and sinned against God. They chose to go their own way and received a curse instead of a blessing. The world was later redeemed when Jesus died on the cross for humanity. He explained how God blessed Adam and Eve and then they got sick. He explored Abraham and the covenant and God told him how he would be a great nation and how he will bless him and how he will bless those who choose to bless him. He will also curse those, who curse him. All the people will be blessed through him. We can reply in the fact that we can choose to move forward and remember that God will bless us.

One of my favorite chapters discussed the power of thank you. We can choose gratitude. He shared the story of the ten lepers and how only one thanked Jesus for his healing and praised him. We can use this story to remind us to praise Jesus and to grateful for everything we have been blessed with. He revealed a personal story about how he struggled with depression and had unmet expectations. He shared how God spoke to him and taught him a lesson on believing that is cup is already overflowing and be thankful for everything he has been given. His wife even noticed a big difference in his attitude. He clarified how God loves a cheerful receiver and how we need to learn to express our gratitude.

I would recommend this awesome book of receiving God’s blessings and in turn becoming a blessing in someone else’s life. I enjoyed how inspirational this devotional was and how quick and easy it is to read a devotional a day. I also liked how each day enclosed a question at the end to assist readers into digging deeper into the message. I also liked how the book was smaller book and it made it easier to carry around.

The Lord Bless You is a twenty-eight day devotional by Terry A. Smith, a lead pastor in New York City. Prior to this devotional, I was unaware of Mr. Smith's writings. From the beautiful cover of this book to the conversational tone and the excellent messages inside of it, The Lord Bless You brings readers great reminders and encouragements for the Christian life.

I appreciate the focus and message of The Lord Bless You. Each chapter or daily reading in this devotional was brief enough to be read in a day, without losing the lesson and challenge. I enjoyed the many references Mr. Smith made to several historic, Biblical, and literary figures throughout the book, including Dietrich Bonhoeffer, king David, the apostles, and even characters from J. R. R. Tolkien's writings. Mr. Smith brought many excellent applications and lessons from these characters

One aspect of Mr. Smith's writings in The Lord Bless You I was hesitant to fully support was the language Mr. Smith used when describing how God's wants to bless us. Perhaps I am overanalyzing his language, but I always am hesitant to endorse when any author describes God as needing to do something for us ....as in, God needing us to do something for His enjoyment or fulfillment. That being said, I most likely have overanalyzed what was intended by Mr. Smith and I have appreciated his encouragements and writings in The Lord Bless You. Overall, this was a great devotional and I hope you have the opportunity to read it and be encouraged from it as much as I have been. Happy readings!

The Lord bless You by Terry A. Smith is a 28 day journey to experience God’s extravagant blessings. This wonderful devotional book begins with an introduction about the simple phrase “bless you”. The author explores using that phrase, and what it really means. It then goes into a daily devotional for 28 days. The first few pages of each day provide of some background and thought provoking information and then a question for the day.

I found the Terry Smith provided good insight and really explores the concept of the Lord blessing an individual. The book is broken into several sections, including blessing, purpose, people, and gratitude. I was given a free copy from the publisher, for my honest review, which I was happy to do. I highly recommend this book.

You may not think of the Lord blessing you much, and this book will help unpack this concept for you. It’s encouraging and will help you understand how to recognize blessings you receive from God. It will also inspire you to ask for more blessings and receive them with gratitude and expectation. A powerful little book that would make a great gift due to its portable size.

I received a preview copy of The Lord Bless You from the publisher.

Excellent 28 day journey. Not long chapters, enough to create thought and movement and make changes on how you think about blessings.

Blessings. We would all rather have blessings than hard times, of course. The Lord Bless You by Terry A. Smith is a devotional book that, according to the back of the book, shares that "the Bible makes it clear that our God has a zealous intent to bless you."

The Lord Bless You starts out with an introduction that is interesting--including why you say "Bless you" when people sneeze. Then the book is divided into four sections: Blessing, Purpose, People and Gratitude. Each part includes seven inspirational chapters. The section on Blessing was written to help ou better understand and experience God's blessing. The second part, Purpose, explains how our purpose is connected to our blessings. The third part, People, talks about how people are part of Gods plan to give and receive blessings. The fourth part, Gratitude, explains how important it is to be thankful for the blessings we receive, if we want to receive more blessings.

The author suggests reading one short chapter each day from The Lord Bless You for 28 days, as it takes 28 days to create a new habit. I have started doing that and am not yet done but it is an uplifting and thoughtful book that I think would be encouraging to most Christians. This year I really wanted to focus more on gratitude and good things and sharing kindness with others. We see and hear a lot of negative things even if we don't listen to the news all the time. I think this book helps counteract some of that negativity. I am really enjoying The Lord Bless You and would encourage other Christians to read it.
