I used this text to teach undergraduate upperclassmen about qualitative research as they conducted their own qualitative research topics. This is a great resource for every qualitative research - beginner to advanced - to have on their bookshelf as an excellent tool for reference. This is the text I wish I would have had as a master's student qualitative researcher!
This is an excellent primer on qualitative research, covering all the components of the research process. I found it most helpful in thinking through the purposes of the literature review and their explanations of the philosophical orientations. Also, toward the end of the book, their analogies and metaphors for the research process were perfect and helped relieve lingering stress and insecurity. Recommend for anyone deciding if qualitative methods is right for their research questions or for students beginning qualitative method courses.
This is an essential guide for any PhD student, particularly if you are in an online program. Merriam and Tisdell’s outline of everything from design to analysis and write up were so helpful in my first experience with qualitative research. I was excited to discover their book is also a free download for Audible Plus members. Listening in the car enabled me to apply some of the time I would have spent reading engaged in writing.
Thank heavens for this book. Whenever I would be stymied by the latest chapter in Patton’s book on the subject, I could find the corresponding chapter here and get it broken down in a more clear and concise nature. Obviously, this book is not nearly as thorough, but that is its greatest strength. Highly recommended.
