Falling For the Sheriff is book four in the Granite Falls series by Cynthia Cooke. This book can be read as a stand alone and is a sweet, small town, romantic suspense. It was very fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat. There are no sex scenes but there is some passionate kissing. I am surprised at myself because I didn’t miss the sexy times at all. There was so much else going on, I didn’t have time to miss it.

Callie Andrews was living her dream. She and her best friend, Annie had opened up a bakery in Raleigh, North Carolina, and it was quickly becoming successful. But then Annie was murdered in the bakery and Callie was seriously injured, putting her in the hospital with big lapses in her memory of what happened. Her other close friend, Jacquie, who is a police detective, insists that Callie needs to go into hiding. And what better place than in the small town of Granite Falls, where Jacquie’s twin brother, Josh, is sheriff!

Josh Halloway left the police department in Raleigh for small town living and for the open sheriff position. He loves the quiet life. But, recently, there has been an uptick in drug activity in his town, as well as some sick cattle turning up. On top of that, the election is coming up. Josh’s twin sister is bringing her friend Callie to town to hide out for awhile until her memory comes back and also for him to protect her. But nothing could have prepared him for the beautiful woman now standing before him with the haunted look in her eyes. He instantly feels both pulled towards her and protective of her.

Callie can’t help but feel the same attraction to Josh as he feels for her. But her life is in Raleigh. Or is it? Could she ever go back there after everything that happened? She thought she would be safe in Granite Falls but she still feels like someone is watching her. Like someone is just waiting for the right moment to strike.

Poor Josh has his hands full. Things in his town are escalating fast with everyone breathing down his neck, waiting for answers. And at the same time, Callie is in danger and his first instinct is to be there for her.

This was a fairly short book and was pretty non-stop all the way through. I couldn’t put it down. I was so excited to realize that the next book in the series will be Josh’s sister, Jacquie’s book in Forgiving Chase. I also loved their younger firefighter brother, Jered and am hoping he might get a book at some point.

These two are so cute 😍

Callie is the only witness to her pregnant best friends brutal murder. To keep her safe, her detective friend sets her up in her small hometown with her twin brother who also happens to be the sheriff. Josh has two tasks and neither involve falling for the sweet blonde he’s looking after.

This was such a sweet small town romance. Callie and Josh are so cute together. I love that his twin, also Callie’s friend, is all for them getting together and even tries to get them closer. POSSIBLE SPOILER - I wanted to smack Lucy in the beginning but I loved seeing the change in her at the end.

Also, poor Annie and her baby 🥺

my dear Annie

My friend Annie and I opened a bakery together, we had dreamed of doing that since we were kids. Things were going along and she met and married Marc. We were planning on a baby shower for her and I was going to call some one and I remembered I must have left my phone on the bakery counter. I went to the bakery and saw that the door was unlocked….

My Musings

I enjoyed this action paced tale with engaging characters and a great plot. However, the ending is incomplete. I understand it's a HFN, but an epilogue would have made this a better book. Happy reading!
