Isabella pedals her bright red bike on the familiar route home, admiring her charm bracelet catching the light. But half an hour later, she is nowhere to be seen. All her frantic parents find is an angel-shaped charm discarded on the sidewalk…
When twelve-year-old Isabella Farner disappears, Agent Tori Hunter races to the scene. Witnesses—including her partner’s son who was biking home with Isabella—saw a man throw her into the back of his blue van and speed away. Terrified that a child she loves like her own might be next, Tori knows every second counts in the hunt for the missing girl.
Isabella’s distraught parents insist no-one would want to harm their perfect family. But soon a photo of Isabella looking terrified is discovered, holding a copy of today’s newspaper. Why would the Farners conceal information about their own missing daughter? And what else do they have to hide?
Then, while searching a stretch of road where the van was last seen, Tori finds a tiny clue: an angel-shaped charm. Isabella was here. But what chance is there that she is being kept alive?
Unable to trust Isabella’s parents, as Tori closes in on the truth she realises someone already known to police must be involved: and she herself is in terrible danger. But even if Tori makes the ultimate sacrifice, will it be enough to find this innocent girl before she disappears forever?
An absolutely mind-blowing crime thriller that will keep you up until the early hours! Fans of Karin Slaughter, Robert Dugoni and Melinda Leigh won’t be able to stop turning the pages.

First time reading this author but I have heard lots of great things so wanted to jump on the bandwagon! As this is book 4, it was a little tricky to get used to the characters having come to the story without having the background story. The introduction grabbed me immediately and I love Tori as a character, aswell as Isabelle. Stelljes does a great job of writing strong personalities that really take the story forward! The pacing did dip a little in the middle for me, but had a strong ending and I would definitely read more from this series and Stelljes.
Missing Angel by Roger Stelljes is the fourth in the Former FBI Agent Tori Hunter series, although she still has a lot of friends in the FBI.
First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.
Series Background: (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books) Recently retired FBI Special Agent Tori Hunter finally solved the murder of her twin sister, and she has now returned to her home-town in northern Minnesota. She is living with her boyfriend Chief Detective Will Braddock, who works for the Shepard County Sheriff's Department, and his son Quinn. They currently have an Acting Sheriff, as their friend and mentor Cal Lund has taken early retirement due to an old case that was not handled appropriately. Tori helps out both the police and the FBI as needed.
My Synopsis: (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions) When 12-year old Isabella Farmer is kidnapped while riding her bike home from school, Tori and Will take immediate action. Will's son Quinn was riding with Isabella, and suffered bruised ribs and a concussion during the event. They are treating this case as personal.
But trying to figure out why Isabella was taken is going to be difficult, and when everything points to one man, both Tori and Will think something is fishy. Is he being set up? Is the family hiding something?
Meanwhile, Tori is still trying to adjust to her new living arrangements.
My Opinions: Okay, this may be the end of the series for me. It was good, don't get me wrong, but when either police corruption or drug cartels get involved, my attention starts to wain. (One of those happened in this book). Since this series has always been "iffy" for me, as it lacked excitement, I will have to do some hard thinking whether or not to continue.
Again, I found the writing was good, just a little to lengthy. I think there was an entire chapter on redecorating the house, and too much personal interaction between Tori and Will. Not needed in a crime novel.
Overall, the actual mystery part was good, as was the writing. Although a little slow, the plot was still good. I think the ending was a little unrealistic....but I guess some people need a happy ending.
I realize I will probably be in the minority on this one, but this series just lacks something for me.

The story starts exactly how you would expect, with a Big Bang that grabs your attention in seconds. There’s a lot going on in here. From the normal investigation of a missing girl in a small town where everyone knows each other, to drug cartels and murders. Those are always great elements to hook a reader like me.
I always enjoy a more personal touch in the private life of a detective and police procedural story. I know it’s not the case for everyone, but since my kryptonite has always been romance, will always look those moments in any thriller type of books.
And Missing Angel has that quite a lot. It makes me enjoy the overall story more, and it shows that even the strong, stone colder hearts have a human part along with emotions and love. The middle part of the story felt a bit too much in my opinion but overall I’ve enjoy it for a good police procedural story that I know many of the author’s fans will enjoy.
Another five star read in the series to feature Tori Hunter. An abduction has the same MO as another case a few years ago. They had a really good suspect but not enough evidence to take it any further. It is upto Tori and her team to bring the girl home safe and sound. Packed to the rafters with tension and suspense and nail biting police chases. Be prepared for a wild ride. I loved it!!! Many thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for the ARC in return for giving an honest review.
My thanks to NetGalley for an advanced digital copy of Missing Angel in exchange for an honest review. Book four of the Toni Hunter series stays true to the main character. Former Special Agent Hunter is making a new life with boyfriend Will Braddock in Minnesota. She left the New York FBI offices as a skilled and successful agent who excelled in her specialized field: missing persons. The slower pace of the Midwest has not slowed her down, however.
The story starts off with a bang and hits close to home as a neighborhood young girl is kidnapped in broad daylight. Tori uses her renowned detective skills and uncanny perception to uncover the culprits. It is a multi- leveled crime involving much more than kidnapping. Interesting and surprising twists! A BANG, BOOM, POP climax! Satisfying denouement!
A bit long; pacing suffered in the middle. Trimming the book would help to propel the story along at a faster pace. Interest waned a bit when the case stalled and I skimmed. The use of SO much onomatopoeia for gun shooting sounds is immature. I understand its use in youth books, but became irksome and off-putting in a book meant for an older audience.
For fans of police procedural crimes, Missing Angel might be a good beach read! I prefer and would recommend Mr. Stelljes’ first series featuring Mac McRyan; Mac’s character is much sharper and more dimensional than Tori. Furthermore, the Max McRyan series is more edgy, exciting, and suspenseful! Mr. Stelljes is a great story teller and I have read all of the compelling McRyan books! The Tori Hunter series isn’t as compelling IMO.
Isabelle a twelve year old girl gets kidnapped on her way home from school. It gets witnessed by Quinn and he can describe the van that took her. Agent Tori Hunter is in charge of the case. She is trying to figure out who took Isabelle and why?
The book started off good but the ending was just so far fetched and unbelievable. I wish they would have ended about a 100 pages earlier before they ended up flying to Colombia and having a friendly meeting with a drug lord. If it didn't have that part in the book would have been great.
A gripping investigation and fast-paced thriller, Missing Angel is a strong police procedural with likeable characters.
As the fourth book in the series, it can definitely be read as a standalone although I would always recommend reading the other books first to get a better understanding of the characters and their relationships. But if you're looking for an easy-to-read thriller with an interesting case, this is definitely a great book to pick up!
My interest usually starts to wain when drug cartels and gangs are involved, but I thought this subplot was tied up quite succinctly and added so much to Tori's character development at the same time.
This was by far the best book the the Tori Hunter series thus far. This one had me flipping pages until 1am because I truly could not put it down. The storyline is a sensitive one but is written in a way that has you fighting for the characters in every chapter. The ending is a tearjerker so be prepared!
A young girl, twelve-year-old Isabella Farner is abducted in broad daylight with witnesses around, yet no one knows who the perpetrator is. Agent Tori Hunter and her partner, Shepherd County Chief of Detectives, Will Braddock investigate. Will's own son, Quinn is one of the witnesses and that makes both Tori and Will go the extra mile to crack the case.
set in Manchester Bay, Minnesota, this is the fourth book in the Agent Tori Hunter series; you don't need to have read the other instalments, but it helps if you have as there are references to previous cases. Zippily paced and suspenseful, I didn't want to put this one down. The many twists keep you flipping those pages and I'm already on tenterhooks for the next in this series!
I received a complimentary copy of this novel at my request from Bookouture via NetGalley. This review is my own unbiased opinion.
Wonderful last book to the 4 book series. I have really enjoyed seeing the characters develop throughout this series and each book definitely has lots of twits and turns. I'm actually sad that my "Agent Tori Hunter" journey has ended.
I just love Roger Stelljes! Everything he writes makes you want to read the whole book in one sitting. This is no exception.
If you want to see Tori’s maternal instincts come to light, this book is for you. I especially enjoyed seeing Quinn play a part in the story too. And the plot? Amazing as always. Stelljes never disappoints.
Book 4 in the Agent Tori Hunter series. A bit of a slow start but became so gripping I just had to keep reading to see which way it was going to go as it had so many twists and turns! Looking forward to the next one in the series!!
Thank you to NetGalley and Bookouture for the arc of this book in exchange for an honest review
Missing Angel returns readers to Manchester Bay and the fantastic Agent Tori Hunter series for an unputdownable and at times nail biting read.
As Tori and Braddock investigate a case that hits extremely close to home when twelve-year-old Isabella Farner is brazenly kidnapped in front of witnesses including Braddock's son Quinn and his cousin Peter; and even though there are witnesses the team soon find they have little to go on. That is until they get a tip from an old friend.
And with one big twist after another. Not to mention shoot outs galore and a desperate dash to try and rescue two more missing children this is a gripping read.
That not only had me guessing but on the edge-of-my-seat, and I can't wait to find out what these two characters will be investigating next.
I would happily recommend.
**I was kindly provided with an ARC via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review**
I'm loving this series so much! The ending was wrapped up nicely with a bow but while it's not likely in reality, the happy endings are what we live for in books. Another thoroughly enjoyable page turner.
This just topped my favourite book of 2022 so far! The adventures of Tori continue and this book does not disappoint. Tori is in her element on the case of a missing child and there is one thing Tori doesn’t do and that is give up. There isn’t too much I can add that won’t give away spoilers for this amazing book other than it’s a wild ride of non stop action. The hard part of whipping through one of these books is the sad wait for the next one.
I believe I am falling out of love with these books… maybe it’s because I have now read 4 back to back but the mystery and tension present in the first book have been sorely lacking. By the time we’re four to five chapters in, we’ve had a chapter from the kidnappers POV and the majority of the ‘who dunnit’ is tainted, sure you’re left with motive left to find but it just isn’t enough to keep it compelling.
The relationship development between Tori and Braddock now feels stale, their romantic interactions an afterthought, peppered almost at random and adding nothing substantive to the plot.
Although I can’t say that I didn’t enjoy the book I no longer have the desire to rush to read the next one and that quite sad when you think about it…
Twelve-year-old Isabella is taken from the park on her way home from school and stuffed into a van. Agent Tori Hunter is called to the scene and begins the search for witnesses and traces of the girl. She also digs into the family's past and previous kidnapping cases to uncover the cause of the crime and hopefully find the girl before it's too late. In the meantime, her relationship with Officer Braddock is growing as they make a home together. I like Tori's street smarts and her skills. The chapter titles include a catchy quote from the chapter, a technique I liked. And while this is the fourth book in the series, the author introduced enough backstory that I wasn't confused. There is some romance, but it doesn't overpower the story. Isabella also shines. I won't share spoilers, but she's a tough girl who is going places in life! I could have done without the repetitive "boom boom boom" and other sound words used to show that someone shot a gun, etc. And the ending was heartwarming but almost too good to be true. I lost interest about 85 percent in. While I disagree with the book summary that this book is "an absolutely mind-blowing crime thriller that will keep you up until the early hours," it is engaging and an interesting mystery with strong female leads.
Another excellent entry into the Tori Hunter series. This time Tori is called into help with a daring daylight kidnapping of a middle school girl, Isabella Farmer. Quinn Braddock, the middle school son of Tori’s live in boyfriend, Will Braddock, was there and tried to stop the kidnappers. Tori must now get to the bottom of why the girl was taken and find her before it is too late.
All I can say is wow! Mr. Stelljes Has done it again. This book and the series as a whole is a home run. I really enjoyed reading it. The characters are very likable and relatable. The plots twists are fantastic and keep coming. The first one caught me completely off guard and I am someone who takes great pride in knowing what is coming.
My one downside of this book would be the last three chapters or so. While it did close out the story, I felt I was a little drawn out and lacked the intensity the rest of the story had.
Overall though this thriller is well worth the read. I would recommend this across the board as long as you like a good thriller. Thank you to @Netgalley, @bookouture, and @RogerStelljes for a free arc for an honest review.
Wow! I really enjoy reading Roger Stelljes’ new series about Agent Tori Hunter. This is the fourth book in the series and they just keep getting better. This was a super action packed mystery thriller that will pull you in right from the start. Isabella Farner and Quinn Braddock are talking and riding bikes home from school. All of a sudden a runner, dressed in black with a mask, knocks them over and takes Izzy. Since Quinn was injured, Will Braddock tells Tori to take the lead on the case. Which is a good thing because that’s Tori Hunter’s forte — finding children. Tori, Will Braddock and the rest of their team never give up. The story is full of plot twists and just when you think you’re at the end, you’re not. Stelljes is a master at weaving the human element into his story line so that you can relate to his characters. I definitely went through the gamut of emotions on this one. And what an ending! Fantastic job! Looking forward to the next one.
I would like to thank Netgalley and Bookouture for an advance copy of Missing Angel, the fourth novel to feature former FBI Agent turned consultant to Manchester Bay, Minnesota PD Tori Hunter.
12 year old Isabella Farner is kidnapped in broad daylight from a local park by a man who was last seen throwing her into a van and driving off. Quinn Braddock, the son of Tori’s partner, Will, was injured at the scene and this gives added impetus to the investigation. The main issue is trying to establish a motive when Isabella’s parents are adamant that they have a happy life and no enemies. Tori isn’t so sure about that.
I have some personal issues that are distracting me from my reading and affecting my concentration, so it was a surprise to me that I kept reading Missing Angel and felt it luring me back when I had to put it down. For that reason I have rated it at 5*, thinking that it must be an excellent page turner to pull me out of my problems.
The author does a good job of inviting the reader in with the original premise. Nothing seems quite right about the kidnapping and it may have happened a couple of times before so that’s the start of the mystery and it makes the reader want more information and understanding. These come in dribs and drabs until the situation becomes clear and that’s when it really kicks off with several amazing twists that will take your breath away. Ok, they probably aren’t very realistic but they’re certainly entertaining. Throw in a few gunfights, a few dead bodies and a heartwarming ending and it really is an absorbing read.
Tori and her partner Will seem to be nesting, in that they’re in love and looking at a home extension to cement their living arrangements. Yes, it’s a bit soppy but it doesn’t stop them stepping up to the investigative plate. I like the idea of happy detectives and it seems to make the narrative flow.
Missing Angel is a good read that I have no hesitation in recommending.
The first thing people do when someone is being taken is call the police. Sounds logic, right? They are the ones who know best how to catch the baddies. Minutes of waiting turn into hours and the fear your beloved child will be lost forever is growing bigger and bigger.
Why does someone do something like this? The answer is quite simple. Money! Greed and desperation can drive almost everybody to do the worst possible: taking a child or agreeing to someone else doing so in order to make the world a better place for yourself regardless of who is getting hurt in the process.
What would you do, being a parent of a missing child? Would you tell the police everything even though the abductors told you not to and count on maybe that little sparkle of kindness you hope they have in their hearts to keep their promises or would you take the risk and share every detail with the detectives?
But baddies would not be baddies if they could be trusted, right? Not even the good ones are always 100 percent honest, how can you expect the crooks to be even the slightest little bit? They are happy when they get what they were after. The rest, to them, is just collateral damage unfortunately.
Coincidences do not exist? I don’t agree with that. I believe they are possible but when there are too many, the situation is not right. The problem lies in finding out the what, why, who and where and that is a task given to Will and Tori. It’s not an easy one, but they are up for it and it’s never over till it’s over for Agent Tori Hunter.
I was very happy to find out Will and Quinn are Bond fans too, just like me. 😊
This story was a mixture of action, suspense and quite a lot of emotions. At the end a tissue came in handy. I loved it. 5 stars
Agent Tori Hunter is back with another case--this time it involved the disappearance of a girl named Isabelle.
The story starts with Isabelle being kidnapped by a masked man in front of her friend Quinn, who happened to be Braddock's son. Agent Tori Hunter along with Braddock sets to investigate the case--to find out that two more children also had gone missing few years ago and one man might be responsible for their disappearances. With time running out, Tori must find Isabelle before it's too late.
This was such a page turner!!! From start to finish, I was literally engrossed into the story, feeling like I was also a part of the story. The part where Isabelle was getting kidnapped was the starting point of the story and where the reader was actually made to dwell into the story. There were some twists and turns, some of them surprising and it was a fast paced thriller with me wanting to know, what is going to happen next. Will it be too late for Tori to save Isabelle? Is some sort of ring going on in the town? The ending left me...speechless! It was completely unexpected ending! Tori would forever be one of my favorite detectives as she is the eiptome of a courageous woman!
Overall, if you are looking for a police procedural, which is fast paced, twisty and unputdownable, then this book is one for you--worth five stars!
The story starts out with an innocent invitation to a middle school party. A young boy has a crush on a young girl, Isabella; he walks her home to get up the courage to ask her to the party. She says "yes". Then all hell breaks loose. Isabella is viciously grabbed by an assailant wearing a mask and thrown in the back of a van, and her family's nightmare begins. Braddock contacts Tori in a panic because the boy who was walking Isabella home when she was taken was Quinn, Braddock's son, and he's been hurt. From there, Tori, Braddock, and the entire team are going nonstop, chasing red herrings and the seemingly unrelated murders of a woodworker and a woman delivering parcels. This book was pretty high energy the whole way through. And just when it seems like they're close to getting Isabella back, the leads fall through. They can't figure out who the bad guys are because they're all around them. The author has chosen an intrepid little girl to be the victim who just won't let herself become a victim. She's a fighter, and being kidnapped has not dampened her survival spirit. She's not sitting around crying her eyes out or waiting for someone to rescue her. I liked that girl. And I liked this book. I gotta say, though, I don't care about the romance going on, and I skipped over it. I'm here for the crime.
Isabella is riding her bike home from school when she is grabbed by a stranger. There were several other kids around her riding their bikes home but none of them got a great look at the offender. Agent Tori Hunter was able to get to the scene quickly and question all the kids, one of the kids happens to be her boyfriends son. He tried to help Isabella but got hurt in the process and was unable to give a good description. Her parents are quite upset and say they have no one in their lives who would hurt them in such a way. Soon a ransom is asked for but the Farner's don't let the police in on the discovery. They were told to not talk to the police and where to drop off the money. Tori figures out that something is going on with the parents and realizes that she can trust them. Follow Tori in her investigation, will she be able to find Isabella before she ends up dead, or is she already dead and just looking for a body? This was the first book of this series that I read, I enjoyed it so much that I've already purchased and read the previous three! I'm already excited for the next one.
I received an ARC of this book, all thoughts and opinions are my own.
I received it from Bookouture via Netgalley and it will be published on 29 June.
A young girl is being abducted in broad daylight with witnesses around. Still, no one knows who the perpetrator is. No one recognizes him. Agent Tori Hunter and her partner Will Braddock are there to investigate. His son was one of the witnesses and that makes both of them more inclined to go the extra mile to solve this awful case.
This is the fourth book in the Agent Tori Hunter series and it's the first one I've read. You don't necessarily need to have read the other books, but still, there are references to previous cases (which are probably the focus in the earlier books). This was one fast read. I was immediately hooked by the writing style this author uses including the description of the characters and the fast paced suspense, making it an indeed unputdownable thriller. Many twists and turns and you had to keep on reading until late at night. Just to find out what happened. I can't wait to read the other books in this series!
