After tragedy strikes and Dani Harper loses her mother, she needs a dose of the next best thing--her Aunt Marni, her three ageless Siamese cats, some much needed summer sun and ocean breezes, and endless moonlight and mojitos under the bright starry Blueberry Island sky.
What she gets, is thrown into the middle of two murder investigations and an old flame--in the form of the sexy local police chief offering protection from a supernatural hitman. But Dani soon finds out it's her own heart that needs protection most, because she's falling—once again—for Galen Wilde, a man with a furaliciously wicked secret of his own.
WHEW. Made it to 54% on this one...not sure how I managed that. I swear a lot, but the swearing in this book is just overkill. There's a lack of character development, no real storytelling, + I had this creeping sensation it was written as a 9th grade English assignment. Sorry. I just can't read anymore of this book.
Back to Blueberry Island after her mother is murdered, Dani finds her aunt gone, her first love still single and that she is a witch. Two short stories about Dani. The first is finding the murderer, the second about wolf shifters. Well-written, and quite interesting, I found the sex scenes disappointing, neither romantic nor erotic. Still, horses for courses, others may not feel the same.
I love this story, however, needs more meat to it. Very easy reading, and I would like to see more ‘personality’ and less fucking. Some is good, but this is a great ‘Last Harper Witch’ idea, need more about that and the shifter life and more about the island and resident life. Hopefully the next book will flesh it out.
This book had alot of potential I liked the plot idea but too many story lines came into play and the writing was very informal and inexperienced. It was hard to take seriously or read especially with all the swearing. The overall concept was interesting though and kept me reading.
DNF - writing was sloppy and odd. The first chapter had Dani’s aunt Marni having a full one sided conversation with her cats which seemed forced and out of place; it was like it was wedged into the beginning to give the backstory and it was poorly executed.
To make matters worse we were constantly reminded that Dani was small and curvy. It felt like someone was trying too hard to be relatable.
There is no way I could or would finish this book as the first two chapters were a hard slog.
Got the audiobook for free on Google Play. I feel like this book had a lot of potential with the story. Unfortunately I found that there was a lack of character development and some of the spice scenes weren't really necessary (maybe too many?). The writing style was okay, I just really wish there would of been more details and development to the story.
That being said, if you're looking for a quick easy read or audiobook while doing chores, I would suggest this!
Bad writing, predictable plot, would not recommend. All Harper witches are killed and now the last one, Dani is going to be next. Since the killer is from police dept. (not a spoiler cz its there in the first chapter only) ofc Dani's childhood sweetheart will also be from police dept. So she tries to gain her powers by doing nothing. A lot of spice for unnecessary reasons and zero interesting plot.
I like a little slow-burn and that was missing in this book. In the first chapter, the aunt is talking to her cats, giving Dani’s back story. What happened to ‘Show, don’t tell’ as a concept? The aunt is killed, the ex-boyfriend meets Dani’s boat, and as soon as they are at the house, they are having sex. And, again, there was no lead in time. One I got into the story, I quite liked so many of the ideas, but, for me, it came across as being written by an inexperienced writer.
Cute, witchy story but it lacked any real depth or character development. One of the main things that bugged me was how often the main character was described (even by herself) as small and curvy 😂 it was seriously overkill, once or twice would have been enough! It was a super quick read which is why I finished it otherwise it likely would have been a dnf.
All about a woman learning she is a witch and finding the love of her life has been waiting for her to return so he can show her that he will always be for her. She finds out he is shifter and they begin helping other supernatural beings. Great book.
I really didn't enjoy this. *spoilers ahead* Firstly, the first chapter is the murder and we learn then who the murderer is, there's no mystery. Secondly, the second chapter starts off with major "pick me girl" vibes which did not endear me to the main character. Then she reunites with her ex who reveals her aunt was just murdered and by the end of the day she has sex with him just upstairs from where her aunt was killed. This all happened on the first day of the book. Oh and he just casually told her that her family were witches. Writing this review, it makes me question about if this was written on Wattpad and then published as it reminds me of the amateur written werewolf stories from there. The second half of this book is also unrealistic, featuring three wolf shifters on the run, but it wasn't as bad as the first half.
What did I just read??? I truly thought this was two separate books - the second half of the book is so separate from the first. Great story but I have some thoughts… Sex WAYYYY too fast??? And they are saying I love you??? Come on. Give me a little build up here. Also she masters her magic in one go??? Come on author. You could’ve drawn so much of this out so much more. Lastly…I’m all for the inclusivity of this book but really?! “Fuck*ard”!!!!???? I’ve never read this word in a book and for that I’m going to have to take it down at least a star. That sort of language is NOT ok. That was the quickest fight ever - again so much of this book could have been elaborated upon. The author had great ideas and I loved the story line but it was just much too quick.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
This is the wrong version of this book and I keep trying to change it and goodreads changes it back.
But after saying that, I give up trying and am just going to rate and review. The book I read is Wilde & Witchy Books 1&2 combined. Great series so far, I have been completely engaged and entertained. There is funny, sassy, smutty, and serious moments filled with love, danger, sadness, heartache and the finding of senses of purposes for more than one character and I can’t wait to read the rest of this series.
The story was cute overall, romance was cute and steamy...
I did get lost in the writing cause. we were in everyone's thoughts at all times. there was no difference between one person's thoughts and another.
Also, we went from one plot about with a serial killer to another about a homophobic alpha without any explanation or ending to the first or transition between the two.
Don't think I'll continue the series as it didn't grab me but a cute book nonetheless.
This author writes about witches with an excitement that makes you want more. Imagine you don't know you might be a witch because your mother was, and your aunt was a witch, but your mother was murdered. Why? Dani was always trying to find herself, but nothing felt right, college, jobs, and boyfriends. Dani was going to see her Aunt Marni. She was a witch but always treated Dani like a second mother. From here, the excitement begins! GOOD READING.
