Can Cassie survive the emotional roller-coaster of being trapped in the mountains with the cowboy who broke her heart?
Cassie fell head over heels for cowboy, Sam Baptiste, when she was sixteen and visiting her cousin in Redding, California. His rejection shattered her heart, and she's spent the last ten years ignoring love. Sam showed her leading with her heart is dangerous, and she's grateful to him. But now they're stuck on the same train. Good thing the train is long and she has a ton of work to keep her busy and away from Sam.
Sam never expected to run into the girl who'd snuck into his place a decade ago and tried to seduce him. Or to be forced to travel with her on a weekend train trip along the West Coast. The problem – Cassie's all grown up now, far too fascinating, and most likely hates his guts. But when an obstruction on the tracks traps them together in the mountains, they’re each forced to confront not only past hurts, but also the simmering spark between them
I don't even know. Not horrible. Not worth more than one star though. Cute story I guess. Unrealistic as fuck. Getting a new job and buying a house in 6 weeks?
Lmao. I was half expecting for her to be pregu too.
Not really a second-chance, not quite an age-gap now that they're older, this story has all the feels of an insta-love with a very awkward history between Sam and Cassie. What a difference ten years can make!
I really enjoyed the setting on the train, as Sam and Cassie both travel home from the wedding of her cousin to his brother. The newlyweds wanted some of their friends on board with them to kick off their honeymoon, so there was a full supporting cast even though they were only on the train for a couple days.
I loved the way Sam led with his honor, even when it had the opposite effect of what he intended. It took a bit to get him out of his head, which only made it that much more believable. The way they both reached the same conclusion while still separated by miles led to a wonderfully romantic conclusion that couldn't have been more perfect.
This is a delightful addition to the author's Northern California Cowboys series, and I highly recommend it.
I really enjoyed this second chance story. It is a sweet, lovely story that had me wanting to bash both main characters heads together.
The main characters Sam and Cassie met 10 years ago, when Cassie holidayed with her cousin. She had fallen for Sam but made a fool of herself in trying to show him. He was older, supposedly wiser, but he hurt her feelings in rejecting her.
Most of the story played out on an Amtrak train on the West coast, which Sam and Cassie were on after Sam's younger brother married Cassie's cousin (who had been on that holiday 10 years ago).
They hoped to avoid each other, but they couldn't and when the train got stuck because of an obstruction Cassie offered up her spare bed to Sam. Once again things do not run smoothly and Cassie is hurt by Sam, but he just can't say what he wants to. So he puts it in writing but by the time Cassie reads it, Sam is off of the train.
First off, I felt like I was back years ago reading one of my old Harlequin books - this was a cute but different story. I don't think I've ever read one like this. And that's saying a lot.
Sam is definitely a strong alpha cowboy, but having had to be "the man of the family" from a young age but with a quiet personality and because he always put his siblings first, didn't have a strong sense of self-worth or outgoing personality.
Even though Cassie was seven years younger, but having grown up in the city, she had a little more self-confidence than him and was willing to put herself out there and make the advances to Sam even though he'd rejected her, twice. Both times, it wasn't because he wasn't interested, but because he was raised a gentleman and didn't think he deserved her. If it wasn't for her, this story wouldn't have happened. Yay, Cassie! And thank goodness for his neighbor, Mrs. C. Oh, and it all happens on a train! What?! ;D
I liked the story 'His Lucky Break' because the two characters were wildly attracted to each other but were afraid to reveal their feelings to each other. The lady had been rebuffed before by him when she was younger which destroyed her confidence and now that she is older he desires her but feels unworthy of her. But they get the chance to finally get together.
I really enjoyed this story and am looking forward to reading more of Ms. Parisien's books. It was a second chance book where the hero and heroine met again after their first encounter 10 years ago. Most of the story played out on an Amtrak train on the West coast. It brought back good memories of my Amtrak 3-day trip from the Midwest to the West coast several years ago.
It was indeed a lucky break for Sam when he met up with Caddie again. Although they had not seen each other in a decade, the attraction was still strong between them. Both had to be brave to own up to their feelings for them to be able to find their happily ever after.
When you are a kid and go visit your cousin in the summer on the ranch, it is easy to fall for a good looking cowboy. But your to young and ten years go by...this is what you can get.
I give this one a 3.5 rating. The story is a good one with good characters. I would have like to have seen more of the story. I felt like something was missing. This one is a good one for that afternoon read when you just want to relax. I would encourage everyone to give this one a chance.
If you find yourself having a free afternoon/evening and want to spend some time with a nice read with HEA, this might be the one for you. The whole train thing is of course totally unrealistic, but who cares? If I wanted realistic, I'd read non-fiction. Just don't expect much cowboying, hard to do on a train :D
This is the first book I have read by this author. It kept my interest , but there was way to much miscommunication and way to much walking away and not talking . If you like heat in your books this is not it . this was a sweet HEA book .
This is such a unique story, I loved the forced proximity of the train and Sam and Cassie's simmering chemistry. I can't wait to read more in this series!
This was an amazing love story! I absolutely loved it! I wish it didn't have to end! Sam and Cassie stole my heart, I can't wait to read the next book!
I really enjoyed *His Lucky Break*—a compelling second-chance romance between two characters with a strong, unresolved attraction. Ten years earlier, the heroine, Caddie, was rejected by the hero, Sam, which shattered her confidence. Now older and wiser, Sam wants her but feels unworthy. Their reunion on an Amtrak train on the West Coast provides the perfect setting for them to finally confront their feelings and take a chance on love. I loved the nostalgic train journey, which reminded me of my own trip across the country. The story is heartfelt, and I’m excited to read more from Ms. Parisien.
