When the remains of two young women are discovered buried in a forest, DCI Erica Cooper and her team are tasked with finding out who they are and how they ended up there.
Two things she knows for they weren’t hiking, and their deaths weren’t accidental.
Dark woods hide darker deeds.
On the picturesque shore of Northern Europe’s largest reservoir, things aren't as peaceful as they seem. Something untoward is happening in rural Northumberland. Between shady pasts, drug culture and extremist views, no one in the village is above suspicion.
In this community of hunters, farmers and gamekeepers, it’s not the animals being stalked. Someone is chasing human prey.
With questions hanging over Cooper’s family and her future, she must battle to keep her mind on the job. Because it’s not just a cold-hearted murderer she has to contend with, it’s the forest itself. Dark, disorientating and dangerous – there’s no phone signal, no one to come to the rescue.
Cooper has to work fast because the killer wants another victim, and he’s coming whether she’s ready or not.
Hide & Seek is the fifth novel in the DCI Cooper series from Newcastle-born author B Baskerville. Set in the beautiful Northumbrian countryside, this twisty thriller will keep you guessing. Great for fans of LJ Ross, AM Peacock and Howard Linskey.
This is the 5th book in the DCI Cooper series and my personal favourite so far. B Baskerville has created such poignant characters and together with the preceding books, Hide & Seek enables further character development which enables the reader to genuinely care for them. These characters ensure the clever, twisty plot delivers fast paced action & side stories to keep the reader thinking. Hide & Seek explores a range of thought provoking issues which stay with you after you’ve finished reading. I can’t wait to read number 6!
such a great book and a gripping story. i think it beats vera. the funeral scene brought a tear to my eye. so well written. also i can’t wait to meet julie my new neighbour 😜
Such a fabulous book series ~ really worth reading. Found this series by chance, I was feeling a bit fed up as I’d finished the excellent Kett books by Alex Smith. So pleased I did. I’ve enjoyed each book and they just get better. I hope that there are police teams like this in real life where they get such support and friendship from each other. I really like the fact that a lot of the characters have depth, you just don’t know what some people have gone/going through. Very sympathetic writing. Another excellent story ~ but that ending. What have you done to us Betsy? Really recommend this series.
Another great read. Despite it being the fifth in the series the plots are fresh and characters aren't stereotypes. The plots aren't predictable and keep you guessing . The way real life issues are woven into the story make it even better. Highly recommend
Another fabulous read. Had me crying at 7am on a Saturday. Looking forward to starting the next one. Would recommend to anyone e who enjoys a good crimne thriller and especially to anyone who lives in the North East. Thank you Betsy.
Brilliant series that just keeps getting better and better, love Coop and the supporting cast but sad that one wont feature in future stories.Great storyline as always and I look forward with much p!easure to Book 6.
Possibly my favourite one so far in the series. Ending was super interesting and actually a little unexpected. Kept me engaged and guessing all the way through, and a less predictable killer than some of the others.
Another excellent story in the DC I Cooper series with all the usual characters. Excellent storyline set in Kielder and one that had plenty of twists and turns especially with Tennessee. Looking forward to reading more.
Another great book, and I love the side plots, particularly talking about miscarriage, even if its not a positive subject. And I was devastated by the last victims death. I highly reccomend the DCI Cooper books.

Gripping from start to finish. The character's personal lives entwined with their never-ending caseloads. Lots of twists and turns leading to a gripping finale.
Yet another brilliant instalment in the Erica Cooper series. This one almost brought me to tears which shows how good the character development is with this series.
