Mary (M.L.) Cook is retired, with hours and hours to write. She was born and raised in Indiana. Although she’s lived in several other states, her heart lies in the Hoosier state.
Worlds come alive. Characters stand over her shoulder. Sometimes they wake her at night. All of them want to have their stories written. No matter how she thinks the story should go, it goes according to how the character decides it should. They all write their own stories.

Sometimes you can find Mary wandering the magical lands of Azeroth. If you happen to find someone who goes by Didntdream, say hello. Or perhaps it will be one of those days when she’s casting spells with her Orc, Loktoria. Either way, make her day and give her a shoutout.

Kate and Axel's Story . . .

Kate returned home after an exhausting week at work. She lived out in the woods, so when her sister called on the cell phone, the connection was dropped. She heard a sound on the gravel driveway and her sister ran up and embraced her with the surprise visit to celebrate her birthday. Too tired to drive an hour to civilization to celebrate, they had beer and pizza and watched the meteors falling. Georgia went upstairs to bed, but Kate sat on the porch… until the 3 aliens walked up and kidnapped her!

The aliens were tall but lizard-like, known as Terrapins. Kate becomes the leader’s slave and is not treated well. She manages to escape two years later and goes on the run, pregnant and having no idea where to go. She ends up running into another Terrapian, Axel and his son Kyle. Axel’s mate had been killed in an attack. He intended to go to Earth to make his home, hoping they would accept him. Axel assures Kate he will protect her. But can she believe the alien? Is she better off taking a chance with him or continuing to run until she is captured and killed?

One distracting item was that there always seemed to be too much detail given, such as the listing of the entire contents of Kate’s purse, or describing the contents of her refrigerator. Such minutia is more than is needed and bogs the story down, losing reader interest. But the characters were likable and it’s worth reading.

Dark Star takes place in the same universe as the Felidian Warriors series which I very much enjoyed.
This first book in a new series by the author didn’t quite meet my expectations though.
I didn’t find it as exciting as previous work and the storyline seemed choppy.
The author’s writing is good but did not shine as much or keep me interested in the characters or their outcome as I’d hoped.
After being kidnapped from Earth by humanoid/lizard like aliens known as the Terrapins, MFC Kate is taken by their leader as a slave. She suffers much abuse (alluded to but not described in any detail) and two years later is pregnant and on the run from her captor whom she subsequently kills.
The story is fast paced and picks up once Kate is found by MMC Terrapin Axel and his son Kyle hiding out in their empty home. There is action and adventure with a romance developing between the leads but again the narrative flow and story itself just wasn’t there for me.

Axel has just lost his mate and he refuses to continue living in a constant danger, he has taken his son and left. Kate has been abducted by aliens and is running trying to protect herself and her unborn baby. Axel saves her and they plan to return to Earth. Even though there is HEA for Axel and Kate the ending is quite unexpected and leaves a door open for the next book, I cannot wait for it to be published.

Another great tale from this Author.
Kate was abducted from her quiet country house and brought to an alien ship. It seems there was no hope for her, but Kate is a survivor. She escapes. Pregnant and alone, Kate has no way to go. She stumbles across Axel’s house and…
I won’t spoil it for you, but if you like Sci-Fi stories with a touch of romance, this book is for you. So pick up this page-turner, and you’ll be glad you did.

A good story but I found it hard to get into. The characters failed to hold my interest very much. I enjoyed some of the story but am unlikely to read any more.

this was a really well done beginning to the Dark Star Warriors series, it was a well-written story. I was invested in what happened and it had great elements of scifi.

M. L. Cook is smoking with this 1st book of the Dark Star Warriors series. Cook has demonstrated an excellent approach to character development and world building as well as an awesome imagination.
