The Jameson family owns a fifth-generation ranch and after the death of its Patriarch, John Jameson, things begin to take an ugly turn. Perrie Jameson returns home from New York to help her family fend off greedy land grabbers, headed by a familiar foe.
Follow Perrie on her journey to not only save her family and their ranch but also find herself as she reconnects with an old flame from her past.
Perrie's introduction like her name was unique. With Zach, who is her roommate (not gay and frequently mistaken as one), she meets another fairly handsome man at the bar when she is just relaxing after a case. Instead of the start of a love story, Perrie turns down the man getting the wrong vibes from the man. Her reactions and her words surprised me as a reader. It also provided good insight into Perrie.
The story immediately pulled in Zach and Perrie's mother. It was cute to read about Zach and Perrie's mother's conversation.
But that was followed by Perrie's father.
The relationship between the divorced Daniel and Camille was actually beautiful. With Daniel still loving Camille and the reasons why they were not married and 'Martin', it was sweet to read their story as well.
But Perrie's father brings the story of Uncle Jack and his ranch at Liberty Falls. Jack's unexpected death and the fact that the ranch is in trouble and Perrie being the hotshot lawyer that she is, she goes back to her small town (with her mother) first for Uncle Jack's funeral and to try to save the family ranch.
There Ryan comes into the story as the readers come to know about Perrie's ex-flame.
But the story is not just a romance as Aunt Viv makes a comeback and this time she is determined to ruin the Jameson ranch.
Aunt Viv is not above using underhand tactics to get the ranch and this starts the fight for Perrie and also brings Ryan more into her life.
The story, the conversation between the characters felt natural and drew readers in more.
Towards the end of the book, it almost seems like everything would get solved both for the ranch, the town and even Ryan and Perrie, but there is a final twist in the story ending it in a cliffhangar.
Nice enjoyable read and promises to have a great sequel to it.
The Return: Liberty Falls. Book One, by Sarah Jacobson.
A modern-day western style drama about city girl, Perrie Jameson, a lawyer.
After receiving the devastating news of the death of her Uncle John, Perrie returns home to the family ranch, owned by the Jameson family. The funeral is a sad affair and brings back memories, both good and bad. John’s Will was read out to the grieving family; it detailed his plans for the future of the ranch, including the continued prosperity of the town.
A fight is brewing as fears the ranch may fold under the pressure of a corporate company seeking to take ownership. An old enemy reappears, and things get messy. Perrie must conquer her emotions as past relationships rekindle the flame of passion within her.
An absorbing saga of family values, tradition, unity and fortitude. A lengthy read – though an enjoyable, descriptive story right to the cliffhanger at the end. Recommended.
If you like a good modern-day western, The Return: Liberty Falls Book One by Sarah Jacobson is for you. It’s got cowboys, horses, cattle and a family that have owned and nurtured the ranch and the land for generations. But times are hard, and when the patriarch – John Jameson – dies, a greedy corporation wants to buy up the ranch, the small town of Liberty Falls and all the surrounding ranches/farms. They want to develop the place into condos and shopping malls, and basically concrete over this rich and beautiful land. Perrie Jameson, a New York lawyer and niece of the owner, is going to do everything she can to stop them. But she hasn’t reckoned on meeting her teenage boyfriend again, and with that, comes all the hurt and heartache of the years they lost. I loved this book. It’s a must for any Yellowstone fan, and I’m one. It’s the first book in the series and I’ll be reading the rest of them very soon.
Now a city girl, Perrie Jameson returned to the ranch where she was brought up to attend her uncle John's funeral. In his will, John laid out his plans to make the town prosper and Perrie was tasked with getting every rancher on board. An old enemy was lurking, ready and willing to put paid to these plans by whatever means necessary. Let battle commence! A captivating read that drew you right in, kept you thoroughly engrossed throughout, with a dramatic and exciting ending, the author skillfully dangling that carrot, making you anxious to read the sequel. As the story unfolded, you felt like you knew all the characters and their little foibles and you fought their battles with them. The book was well written and I'm really looking forward to reading the next. Great job!
Perrie now a big time lawyer in New York returns to her small town of Liberty Falls when she hears her dear Uncle John has died. When she gets there she discovers that his ex wife is trying to bully people into selling up their land including her uncle’s ranch that Perrie has just inherited. With the help of some journals that her uncle left she decides to fight back and with the help of her family she tries to help the small community. But with Viv the ex-wife using underhand and illegal tactics Perrie might just find her life is in danger. While this is all happening, romances are rekindled. Perrie reconnects with Ryan her high school sweetheart and her mum and dad who divorced when she was 13 might just back together after not seeing each other for 20 years. This is great piece of writing that makes you want to turn the page after page to find out what’s next and it ends on a very dramatic cliffhanger.
Small-town drama and danger! The Return Liberty Falls Book One by Sarah Jacobson surrounds Perrie Jameson, a lawyer from the city who returns to her home town after the death of her uncle John. As she fights against the corporate company to save her family ranch, she also needs to fight her emotions when she comes face to face with her past. This is a gripping story that is descriptive—well-written with great characters. On to book 2 now. Highly recommended!
A refreshing fun story that that was a great read from all other books that I have read lately. The characters were lively and entertaining especially Perrier and Ryan and their relationship. It was a long read but the continual action and fast-pace of the story made it bearable to the end until the cliff hanger at the end. Darn!!!
The Return: Liberty Falls by Sarah Jacobson is an entertaining novel that has something for everyone. Once it got into the story, it was full of drama, romance, and good old-fashioned family values. I enjoyed reading it and would highly recommend it to others.
A divorced New York lawyer, Perrie Jameson, travels home to her uncle’s funeral and learns her small hometown, Liberty Falls, Tennessee, and the ranch where she grew up are under threat. Deep-pocketed developers seek to buy out the small farms and ranches around the town as well as the small businesses in the village.
The developers want to build houses and condominiums and encourage big box stores and corporate chains to invade the area, which would change its rural atmosphere. Perrie is enlisted to fight the developers by using her knowledge of the law and courts.
As the story progresses, Perrie reconnects with Ryan, her boyfriend from decades ago. This adds romance to the tale. The author does an outstanding job of developing believable characters and describing the setting. The book ends with unresolved suspense, which encourages the reader to dive into book two of the series. Liberty Falls Book One includes British jargon and spelling, no doubt because the author was born in the United Kingdom. Nevertheless, this novel deserves five stars for its excellent story and writing.

About the Author:
This delicious saga's plot and perfect pacing engrossed me on my pool lounger for hours in a mini-vacay kind of way - a smile never far from my lips. Successful New York lawyer and relatable protagonist Perrie Jameson returns to her hometown after her uncle John's death. The latter laid out his intentions for her and the town's prosperity in his will, but an old foe plots to scupper those plans pronto. The engaging Perrie wades into the fray, determined to save her family's ranch and fight for the small Liberty Falls community. Bring it! Will she overcome her challenges and find love with her old high school sweetheart? I'm not saying, but any woman who has been similarly tempted will love their interactions! Ditto her Mom and Dad - divorced for decades - might they reunite? I found myself rooting for them too. Infused with warmth and depth, the helium of humor lifts it higher. Light-hearted banter from well-developed supporting characters even puts the fun into a funeral! Cue the cliffhanger ending. Might there be another one? I'm going to have to read the sequel to find out!

I loved this tale of family, cowboys, romance, and skullduggery. The main characters are wonderfully drawn, and the supporting cast are no less interesting; from the sweet hillbilly, Lee (Cleatus), to the pitiful Amber, the efficient Jason, and the dastardly Nick. I’m looking forward to discovering how they develop throughout the series. Perrie and Ryan, who have history between them, make engaging MCs, and the monstrous Viv is a baddie in the best tradition. The central theme of protecting the green belt, community, and a traditional way of life against the encroachment of development remains highly relevant to our times. I cared about the characters and hoped the villains would get their comeuppance, though it looks like I’ll need to read the next book before discovering if they do! I can’t wait; especially after that explosive finale! If you enjoyed the TV series ‘Yellowstone’, you’ll love this immersive blockbuster!
Perrie Jameson is a New York corporate attorney that returns to her ranching roots in Tennessee to help her father after the death of her uncle. Divorced and unlucky in relationships, Perrie crosses paths with Ryan, an old romantic interest. He’s been dating someone for a while, but the connection between Perrie and Ryan has a slow burn that never went out.
The notion of everyday townspeople working together to save their sleepy, rural town from greedy, wealthy land developers is engaging. Author Sarah Jacobson has a knack for authentic dialogue. The setting descriptions and the winding plot are compelling and often humorous.
The Return is the first novel of the four-book Liberty Falls series, where the tale continues from one read to the next.
Perrie returns to her family ranch from NYC for her beloved uncle’s funeral. A successful corporate lawyer, she still harbors a deep love for horses, wide-open spaces, and the waterfalls nearby. She is completely unprepared for the surprises that stack up before and after the funeral. The longer she is at Liberty Falls, the more entrenched she becomes in the battle between her family and a corporation with plans to buy out and remake the small town and nearby ranches. Money talks, but when that doesn’t work, and the neighbors begin to look to Perrie for help to stop the progress, things get dangerous. If you enjoy stories of the cowboy life in a modern-day setting, I think you’ll enjoy this first in series novel.
I recently discovered this author, and I'm so glad I did, as I was pleasantly surprised. " Return to Liberty Falls" is an engaging story with a complex storyline. After her uncle dies unexpectedly, Perry, a martini-drinking high-flying lawyer, is forced to return to her home town to help save the family ranch. But her task is difficult, dealing with adversaries along the way—an intriguing setting introducing realistic characters, including family members. I especially enjoyed the interpersonal relationships between the characters. The more you learn about them, the more engrossed you become. Blended with mystery twists and turns and a tinge of romance. The story reeled me in and keep me wanting to know more. Fast-paced and taught in the narrative. I can't wait to see where the author takes this next.
I enjoyed this story of a big city attorney returning to her roots, and reuniting with her former love. The characters held my interest, although I would have preferred some closure instead of a cliffhanger ending. The long a divorced parents reuniting was a nice touch. The book could benefit from editing, especially regarding capitalization, and punctuation of dialogue. I also found the use of British English spellings in this book unusual. I have read many books using British English, but this story took place entirely in the US, so it was unexpected.
Once again I ventured out of my comfort zone. This is relationship drama 101, written with characters who try to jump off the page, sit down, and grab a beer with you.
The style is engaging, the story has enough twists to keep things interesting, and the dialogue works. My only quibble is the cliffhanger, but as it's the first book in a series I can let it slide.
How this compares to other books in the genre I don't know; as I said, it's out of my comfort zone. But it was a substantial read.
The Return: Liberty Falls is the story of Perrie, a New York lawyer, who returns to her hometown of Liberty Falls when her Uncle John died. When she gets there she must save the family farm. When her high school sweetheart shows up, sparks begin to fly. Add the divorced parents into the mix. Lots of action and subplots in this well-written book one of a series.
I'm not a fan of cliffhanger endings, which this has, but it is a way to get people to read book two, I guess. A little editing would help, but book one grabbed my interest enough to read to get me to read the next book. Well done.
Although this was not a book I would normally pick up I followed a recommendation and am glad I did. Following a city girl’s return to the country to save the family ranch the story was rich with nuances that kept me connected to the story and wanting only the best outcome for the lead character. Highly recommended
This book has all the ingredients of romance, family values, corruption and greed. While it could benefit from some grammatical editing, I was hooked by the end and look forward to the next in the series 😀
an expansive world and read that although quite longe and rather descriptive when it gets going it really chugs along at a well earned pace that leaves you racing towards the end Take a week and enjoy the traditional valises on display
I loved it! I’m rooting for Perrie Jameson all the way! Returning to Liberty Falls from New York was a tough task for this courageous attorney who will stop at nothing to save her family!
A good story line that kept my interest all the way through. I've read other books written by this author and have enjoyed them all. Well done Sarah. A lovely book. Highly recommended.
