In the fourth book in Karen Kingsbury’s and Tyler Russell’s beloved series about the Baxter children, Kari and Ashley go through the ups and downs of summer camp.

School science camp is a few weeks away, but Ashley and Kari Baxter have very different feelings about going. With the help of their siblings, Kari and Ashley prepare for wild experiments and the challenges of the great outdoors, and together they learn what it means to plan for an experience they won’t forget.

In the process, all five Baxter Children learn how to make new friends and that adventure awaits in the everyday. They just have to look for it!

As an adult who reads children's books, I enjoyed this. Not sure if an actual child would or would find this cheesy - I do hate the way KK references her own work within her work (in this case, having Kari describe one day writing a book called Adventure Awaits) but these are very calming, palate cleansing, nice stories with a timeless feel - she doesn't use technology or pop culture to date them. Will continue to read these as long as she continues to write them.

My rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️½

My thoughts: 🔖 Page 63 of 280 Ch. 5 Bo of Many Colors • Ashley - I've got issues. When we first met Rachel Howard in early summer, she had 3 kids and was due in 2 months with a 4th. Now it's the end of fall, and now Linda Howard and still, 3 kids are back from a Caribbean cruise. Steven may still be a teen, but he could be 7 for all, I know. I know continuity isn't a big deal for some readers, but it's a huge deal for me. I was looking forward to the new baby!
🔖255 Ch. 18 Science Camp Sunrise • Ashley - As someone who attended science camp in 6th grade this was interesting. I don't think the public school teacher should sound like a Sunday school teacher, but I'm just going to ignore and enjoy.

I'm still wondering if they meant Aladdin instead of Beauty and the Beast. There were some moments here but I think overall it was too silly as if they are going backward.

Recommend to others?: Sure. Every series has one that's okay, I think this was better than okay, I just didn't agree with some of the choices.

I never get tired of the Baxter family. Kingsbury has brought these characters to life once again and this series for kids looking back at when the Baxter kids were growing up is just what we need in this day and age. Uplifting and fun, I always look forward to these feel good books.

This is the fourth book in the children’s series about the Baxter family from author Karen Kingsbury. If you’re a fan of the adult Baxter series from Karen Kingsbury, you’ll enjoy learning more about the characters when they were children. While this story stands alone, reading the first three in the series first makes it more enjoyable in my opinion. There’s enough substance to the story to make it fun to read as an adult, and a “moral to the story” that is perfect for kids. This would be a great series for elementary aged children to enjoy, either on their own or as a read-aloud with their parents. 4/5 stars.

I really enjoyed reading the first book or two of this series to my daughters (I could overlook some of the annoyances) but this one was a DNF. I just couldn’t do it and two of my daughters were with me on that (ages 8 and 12). Ashley was so annoying and really didn’t seem like a 10 year old…more like 4. It also felt like they focused on doing the right thing because they were Baxters and not because they want to live like Christ. I got whiffs of American fundamentalism that just didn’t sit well with me. There are better wholesome books for our kids out there.

Such a fun series for middle grades. Highlights a wonderful family and faith dynamic. The series deals with the family moving from MI to IN and how the kids deal with the move and settle in to their new home. It is told from the perspective of 2 of the children, Ashley and Kari, in 5th and 6th grades, respectively. Ashley has such spunk and is a joy to discover for boys and girls reading the series.

This a book in the Baxter Family Children Story series.

Kari's and Ashley's school classs are going to Science Camp.
Neither one is too excited about the trip.

However, they prepare and get on the bus.

There are many adventures the girls are involved in. And
they come with a different perspective.

Loved the story

The 4th book of the Baxter Family Children series was a very adventurous book. The coincidence was that I was also going on a school camp! I enjoyed this book very much. I felt myself being in the book, sitting around the campfire with Kari and Ashley :)

The fourth book in the Baxter Family Children series, this one once again revolves around the middle Baxter sisters, Kari and Ashley.
The sisters are off to overnight science camp for a few days with their school's fifth and sixth grades.
One sister is fearful about the unknowns of the trip while the other relishes in the adventures promised due to those unknowns. Some chaos ensues, especially where dramatic Ashley is concerned, but the sisters both have eventful experiences.
