Dear Diary,

It’s been three years since I confessed my love to my English teacher–but my heart still did somersaults today when I saw him at work.

He was horrified by my letter back then, just like he was shocked to see me today. Well hey–I didn’t invite him to the library! He was on my turf. The big jerk.

And I’d give anything to stay far, far away from that knowing gaze, but his class will be coming here all semester. We’ll be in close quarters.

Yep, I’m going to die of humiliation every day.

Because even though he turned me down so harshly, even though I’m a grown woman now, I still want him. I still dream about him in bed each night.

Mr Finch can never know how I feel.

And he needs to stop staring at me like that.

Dear Diary is a short and steamy instalove story, starring a heart-sick scribbler and her forbidden crush.

Wow! Okay! That was actually really nice to read! As some of you know, I was getting sort of tired of Cassie Mint's formula lately but here, I just think she did everything right. Fat thumbs up from me! It surprised me in many ways, here goes:

In the prologue, we have Emma, a young freshman who has a crush on her English teacher. When she finally decides to write a letter confessing her feelings for him, he reads about one paragraph of it and then crumbles her letter, throwing it in the trash. He harshly rejects her and makes it clear how inappropriate it is and that he has no ounce of interest in her. Jump forward three years, a now graduate Emma works at the library and learns about a certain teacher from her past college who plans on making his class actively do research type of work by coming to the library every Friday. Emma and Conrad meet again and if there is still some residual awkwardness between them they are ready to act normal. But Conrad who had absolutely no interest in Emma when she confessed now starts to see her as a woman, and when he realizes it, it's already too late for his heart.

Conrad was such a refreshing hero. He was super serious, was passionate about his job, was strict and yes, reasonable. I really liked the fact that he had absolutely no interest in his student. Usually, in a Cassie Mint novella, both the main characters are secretly in love and the teacher/student situation is was causes all the drama and doubts. But here, my man did the proper thing. And it wasn't just for pretend. I loved that he was the one chasing her three years later. His growing feelings for her made sense, seeing her as a smart and beautiful young woman. He still had some reservations at first but mostly because of the way he had rejected her before. I am convinced that he was a workaholic and strict man who's only love was his job.

Is there anything more satisfying than a fresh planner and a brand new pen? It’s borderline erotic. Every time I see those crisp, snowy pages, I get a little shiver down my spine.-Conrad

As for Emma, I liked that she had tried to get over him overtime, wishing to fall in love with someone else, only to realize her feelings for him were still strong even after all those years. She was sweet and cheeky. Once her embarrassment caused by her past went away, she was very playful with her ex-teacher. Teasing him here and there. Her reticence when realizing Conrad wanted to get serious with her was understandable and very valid. The way he had rejected her before had really hurt her feelings, and so, she was a little bit on the careful side when being with him. Safeguarding her heart in a way.

Mr Finch means nothing to me. And maybe if I repeat that enough, I’ll finally start to believe it.-

Their relationship was divine. I appreciated that the author decided to make it a real unrequited love at first. It gave place for character growth, both from Conrad who learned to be gentle and accept other's feelings and from Emma who got to mature and become more realistic. They completed each other very well.

The pacing was also super nice. No rushing, it was pleasant. Something else I need to point out is the lack of drama, which was extremely refreshing. I guess it only really happened in the prologue, yet, it was skipped, we only know it didn't go well lol. Anyways, there was barely any angst. It was all about Conrad trying to get Emma's trust back. Impeccable.

Would I recommend this novella? Definitely one to enjoy. It was simple, not rushed, had no drama whatsoever. The only thing that lacked for me, a little bit, was the intimate scenes, which I wish had been longer.

I didn't like the hero. He did not love her from the very beginning, when she loved him. I understand that many will say that he was her teacher, but she was 18, and I'm talking about love, not about lust. He didn't even single her out from the other students until she approached him with a letter.

SWOOOON

What is it about a stern, stoic hero falling for a sweet woman that just melts my insides? It’s magic!

Loved this one. The hero was the heroine’s English teacher and when she confessed her love to him, he shot her down. Years later, she’s working as a librarian and he suddenly realizes she’s grown into a beautiful woman. Commence the fall!

Totally safe. Hero’s past isn’t mentioned at all but he doesn’t come off as a manwhore. Heroine is a virgin and gives the hero the gift of claiming all her firsts for himself. No others, no cheating no abuse. HEA a few years later married and pregnant

An unexpected new favorite!

I absolutely loved this book. The story of a student and teacher years after she graduated was perfect. I like that she had some trust issues with him after what happened back then and didn’t just fall right at his feet. I’m a huge sucker for student teacher stories and this one was awesome even if it wasn’t set in the school. Were there a few things I’d change if I wrote it myself? Sure. But it doesn’t change the fact that it was awesome and is totally going on my reread shelf.

Read 2: Still love this story. The thought of a student and teacher coming together years later is still pretty novel as far as the trope goes and I love it.

Read 3: was really just in the mood for this story where the teacher falls for the student later. It hit the spot.

Read 4: yes, I read this again. I wasn’t feeling well and it’s my comfort read.

That was sooo good.

The only complaint is that I wanted it to be longer because in my modest opinion this story deserved time. And it's not something we have in a novelette.

But still, I'm so happy now.

Hmm didn't feel the connection

I didn't feel the connection. We go almost 50% of the book with them both repeatedly going over what happened when she was in school. Then they go to the springs and he touches her.

After few day she waits at his house, the have sex. Next chapter 3 years later and married. But, where's the feelings????

Well that doesn't went good 🙈 Now three years later they meet again after the great humiliation 😉 Conrad sees his ex-student again and is instantly smitten but kind of conflicted too. But the heart wants the heart gets.... And now he has to show his woman that he is in it for the long haul.🥰🥰 kind of instalove 😉, sweet, steamy, romantic and safe with a sweet HEA and no drama😍😍😍😍😍 Can't wait for the next story in this series 🥰🥰🥰

This is the first time I am reading a story by Cassie Mint and it will not be my last!
Dear Diary was a sweet story about a young girl, fixated on her teacher, only to have her love tossed aside. Years later, these two meet again and it is complicated but big chemistry still between them.
Sweet, quick read!

Wish this was a little bit longer so we could have more ✨angst✨, but this was a fun, steamy short read.

I was a little skeptical of the whole he-was-my-teacher-crush thing but I feel like it’s made extremely obvious that the teacher didn’t feel any type of attraction or “pull” towards the student while she was a minor so it’s… better?

The couple: Conrad and Emma

Romance trope: teacher-student
Series: Prickly Pear Springs
Length: 66 pages

Plot: Emma has a crush on her high school English teacher and she decides to write him a love letter to tell him. He's horrified and throws the letter away without even reading it, telling her in no uncertain terms that it's all inappropriate. Three years later, at 21, Emma is working in the town library, and who starts bringing his students to the library but Mr. Finch! Only this time, he definitely notices her, and not as a student anymore.

Commentary: This was actually more accurate than most teacher-student books in that the teacher actually exercised his professional ethics and told the student that a relationship was inappropriate. I know Emma was hurt and embarrassed, but I would rather he show some integrity than try to force a description of him pining after her during her senior year of high school. It was a little strange though, her still thinking of him as Mr. Finch and them being in the hot springs half-naked while she's still uncomfortable with him as an adult. It was a little awkward for a lot of the story. Despite that, I did like it because I enjoyed seeing Emma's growth as a character.

Next book in the series: Ear Candy

3.5 I was sooo close to giving it 4.5 stars but the last chapter ruined it. I mean, I was pleasantly surprised by the book, but it was so well written that I can't figure out why it's cut short. Everything is perfect until Chapter 9, which is nothing wrong, just it seems that the author wrote until Chapter 8, got tired, and told her non-writer friend to write the final Chapter and the Epilogue.
Anyway, it was a good book, I'm definitely going to read the next one.

One of my 1-click authors and this one was cute- like everything else she writes. It just didn't feel as developed as some of her others though. I loved the build-up but then suddenly he's in love with her (no clue why) and boom! sex, mini-upset and the end. I was blinking wondering what just happened.

He wasn't attracted to her at all until she was years out from being his student, was an adult, and on his level professionally. That was a pleasant surprise. I loved this story and Cassie Mint's stories and writing are just so addictive

😭😭😭Oh, geez, this one was so fucking twisted. I felt wrenching from the beginning till the end. And I thought I could be happy about they had happy ever after. But NAH. I still felt miserable about Conrad did to Emma years ago. 😭

“Emma, wait.” Mr Finch’s voice floats up to me halfway up the stone steps to my door. “I’m sorry. I shouldn’t have cut you off like that.”

I wave an airy hand over my shoulder, even though my chest is aching. I still can’t look back at him as I hop up the final steps. “No worries, Mr Finch. See you Friday.”

“It’s Conrad,” he calls, and I get a final flash of green eyes as I close the front door.
Conrad.

Nope. Doesn’t feel real.
Mr Finch is the off-limits teacher who tossed my love letter in the trash. The man who marked our assignments and wrote our exams.

Conrad is the hot, toned runner who walked me home from work and kept staring at me from beneath that scowl. The man whose gaze roamed up and down my body, those eyes sizzling hotter than the desert.
In my brain… there’s no way they’re the same man.

Conrad turned her down so freaking harshly three years ago, he didn’t even cared about her at all. Emma had a crushed on Conrad for so many years, and I knew it was not Conrad’s fault for turning her down because I had no right to let Conrad had a feeling for Emma the same way as she loved him.

Because we couldn’t blame someone who didn’t love us, right? It was just the way it is. Not everyone we loved must love us.

But you know, when reading how much Conrad cared nothing about her, he did things hurt her, i still feel Emma was devastated, for three years, and that was heartbreaking when you love someone but you were nothing to him.

Even three years later, Conrad started to notice Emma, I still feel Emma was heartbroken, and i felt so so wrenching when I read this. And if it was not fate let he happened to meet her, he had forgotten her already.

She should have let Conrad waited longer until she gave all in. But she was so so sweet. 😭😭😭

The writing was super great, but still, I didn’t think he deserved such a great heroine like Emma.

I … did not expect a novella to be this good after all the other just okay, or somewhat enjoyable ones that I read this year.

My only complaint is, that I wished it was a bit longer. Because I would have loved to see them date. Or their big events — just for my swooning heart alone.

I would have loved another sex scenes as well, just bc from Emma’s point of view the experience was a limited one and I would have loved to see (read) more of it.

Oh and maybe one other tiny thing: Verity - the main protagonist of the next book - was inserted in the story better than I have seen it done in any other novella that I have read, yet it was still very obvious. She stood out in the descriptions … I maybe would have made it a bit more subtle. But that’s just a very minor detail.

But other than that?
Gosh. Conrad is respectful, he did the right thing in blowing her off as a student, he was not creepy AT ALL. He didn’t even notice her in that way back then (HELL YEAH!) He only saw her and just knew.
He was just … a grumpy with a heart of gold doing the right thing, not shying away from commitment.

I … may I have one of these for myself please? Are they available on Amazon? I’d like to order one!

I liked Emma too, the way she flirted with him felt so natural. I mean yes, she was on guard - rightfully so. A gesture like the letter she wrote must have taken a lot of courage. Being vulnerable like that is scary. And getting this kinda blow to the heart is, just tough. Even tho she obviously knows that a relationship back then would have been highly inappropriate. Duh. But tell that to your heart, am I right?

Also … I wanna hear more about the grumpy grandmas 👀
And Brian, while we’re at it!

Gosh I really wished this was a full length.
I just loved it.

Dirty little secret fun

Dear Diary is the first book in the Prickly Pear Springs series. This book sets the series up as taking place in the small desert town of Prickly Pear Springs which has a number of hot spring pools just outside of town that everyone goes too. Emma Burke is twenty-two years old and after going away to college came back to Prickly Pear Springs and is now working as the library assistant. Conrad Finch is the high school English teacher who Emma had loved. When she was at the end of her senior year Emma decided to give Mr. Finch a letter she had written to him, expressing just how she felt about him. When Conrad opened the letter and realized just what it was he quickly crushed Emma's heart and threw the letter in the garbage. Now it is three years later when Emma and Conrad's paths cross once again, only this time she is an adult and he is in for a big shock. But Emma's diary is about to get a lot more smexy material as she writes in it about just what happens between her and Conrad this time.

This is a smexy fun and entertaining short story. I liked the characters as they both are finding a new way to interact with each other now that Emma is an adult and no longer Conrad's student. He keeps having the "this is wrong but still so right" thoughts and she is just all in with the naughty little secret fun, only he does not want them to be a secret. Will Conrad be able to prove that he really wants Emma, for now and forever, and will she believe him?

Conrad or Mr. Finch was Emma's high school English teacher and she had a huge crush on him. So huge she actually wrote him a love letter telling him of all her feelings. The minute she gives it to him he barely reads it before throwing it in the trash and telling her it's way inappropriate. Three years later and Emma is working in the library, still writing in her diary and believing she is over Mr. Finch when he starts bringing his senior class to the library every Friday for research. Emma finally seeing Mr. Finch again brings back old memories but also reminds her she never got over him. And when Mr. Finch or Conrad sees Emma again he sees a beautiful young woman who he would give anything for. This is a sweet hot steamy love story about two people finding each other at finally the right time to be in love. So well written, and the characters are so well developed you really feel for them. I loved this story.
