Wolfe Brothers #1

Judge Wolfe's Intern

Rate this book
The night we met, we sizzled. Now, he’s my new boss, off-limits and cold as ice.

Judge Jonathan Wolfe could hang icicles in hell but the night he walked into my pub his irresistible smile and those heated stares had me ready to jump into bed with him… until he walked away. Probably for the best considering he’s the judge I’m interning for this summer.

I’m a law student, getting by on tips and scholarships. I’m not jeopardizing my dreams for a man. I’m too busy dodging trouble.

He’s the judge, stern and distant. He’s also devilishly handsome and heir to billions. Is he planning to eat me alive or devour me in other ways? Hello, Trouble.

Inconvenient Attraction? Guilty.

Misconduct in Chambers? Am I under oath? I think I’ll plead the Fifth.

An amorous entanglement could ruin both our careers. Is falling in love a crime? Could it be worth the punishment?

(Part 1 of a series but can be read as a stand-alone, no cheating and happily ever after!)

It started in an exciting way, then dragged on and on.
All in all, it's a nice read.

Sometimes I find there are parts of a book that grate, but overall with this one the gratey bits didn’t take away from the book as a whole. The chemistry between the two main characters was electric and I look forward to getting to know more of the Wolfe family in future books.

Mia’s youth and naivety came through a lot, but at the same time her fears were based on experience, just as Jonathan’s were. Well crafted characters who were a joy to read about, mostly! 4.5 stars.

This is book one of the Wolfe Brothers series and the mina characters are Judge Jonathan Wolfe, who goes by his middle name rather than his first, and law student Mia Kelly, who works hard at an Irish bar and for a catering company as a server, whilst also making top grades in her studies. She has been looking into applying for a summer internship for Judge Wolfe, who is young for his position and a rising star, but also someone described as stern and distant. Mia had her life change drastically due to actions of her father in her first year at college, leaving her relying on scholarships and tips from both of her jobs to get by. She has no time for a relationship and was badly let down from the boy she thought was serious about her after some two years together, only to find he wasn’t! Judge Wolfe is very wealthy, from an old moneyed family and some twelve years older than her, so well out of her league.
He and his brothers come into the Irish bar for drinks, only for her to be stuck into her books during a quiet spell. It is Jonathan’s voice interrupting her that makes her realise she has customers. This is the start of a bit of teasing and flirting, back and forth between them, which is suddenly ended just as he was tempted to take her to dinner, by a glance at the books below the desk and realising what she was studying! That almost connection is not one either of them have forgotten in the months until they meet again. She is invited to interview for his internship and catches a glimpse of him in court beforehand and gets the shock of her life, to realise he is the same man she nearly slept with all those months ago! Her interview goes really smoothly, after they get over the embarrassment of their previous meeting, and her work ethics and grades prove her to be the best candidate for the role.
All Jonathan has to do is keep it professional for eight short weeks. It can’t be that hard can it? His assistant Sybil becomes a great support to Mia, especially after the Judge ignores her for the whole of her first week, until she asks him why! Matters change after that and while they try to remain professional, they soon can’t resist the attraction between them. He has to ensure there is no misconduct in his chambers, as he has the higher position and could be seen as using that position to force her actions. His position also has a very public and political side to it and he has to be careful about any relationship or bad publicity. His previous engagement to a model ended badly, much worse than simple cheating, as you find once the full story is told. His opponent in the upcoming elections is still willing to play dirty and shocks him at the end. The sins of his ex are soon brought back to mind, when Mia’s father makes a move to solve his own issues and puts her in the crosshairs. Wolfe’s family has some very damaging sides to it, but his brothers and mother make up for it in spades. Both their careers could be ruined permanently if word of their relationship got out, so they have to be careful, but lust often takes over. Mia and Milton were always destined to be together, but they have lots of hurdles to overcome before there can be any sort of HEA ending! An enjoyable read, with some very realistic issues and fun moments and so I can’t wait to read the rest of the series. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

Judge Wolfe's Intern, Book of the Wolfe Brothers mini-series, was about 36-year-old (Milton) Jonathan Wolfe, a sitting judge (and the middle son of his parents), and 24-year-old Mia Kelly, a law student.

Jonathan met Mia at the bar where she worked the night he and his brothers decided to toast their late grandfather after reading his will. At first, it seemed like things were going great, but then he went cold as ice and left abruptly.

Two months later, Mia was at the courthouse for an interview to be a summer intern for a sitting judge, only to find out it was the man from the bar. While he eventually accepted her as an intern, during the first week of working with him, he was a complete A$$ to her. But things settled down after an incident, and they managed to work together without further irritation...for a time.

The angst and drama of the story were OTT and drawn out to the point that it became overkill. Even the rollercoaster ride of emotions had more twists and turns than usual, and not in a good way. This story was also too long. Forty chapters that covered ten weeks. It had too much information, too little time for the romance, and too much attention spent on the job, a trial that had nothing to do with the two main characters, and it focused more on the issues regarding some of the secondary characters than necessary.

Although both characters were well-developed and mature, there wasn't any real growth shown. With all of the fluff that filled the pages, by the time the MMC realized his errors and wanted to make changes, the book was over and the growth didn't have time to take place. The FMC, 12 years younger than the MMC, was more mature and made more growth than he did, but she wasn't the one who was TSTL in this book.

While the plot was decent, the author tended to take it in several directions which led to dead ends that did nothing but frustrate the reader. There were too many unresolved issues, most of which detracted from the storyline, and some of the things the author wrote about weren't even relevant to the story. Because of that, the flow of the book was rough and broken. The way the book was written was quite chaotic and the fractured phrasing was difficult to navigate. This caused the book to become boring quite fast. Add in all of the grammatical errors, the punctuation flops, and the length of time it took the two main characters to give in to their feelings, the story dropped severely in stars. So, with all of the aforementioned issues, I only gave this book a two-and-a-half star rating, rounded up to three.

Jonathan and Mia's Story . . .

Mia Kelly is working on her degree at The University of Chicago’s School of Law while working part-time for a catering service and her bar job. Financial aid and scholarships just are not enough to pay for everything without the extra jobs. Fortunately O’Neil tries to be flexible about her schedule at the bar, and she tries to accommodate him when he needs extra help. There is a summer internship thing for Judge Milton J. Wolfe that she is thinking about too. Then, as she is dozing off in exhaustion and ready to go home, a man’s voice wakes her and she sees the table of 3 additional new customers behind this man! The man teases her about reading a Grisham novel, which he claimed was great literature and teasingly reprimanded her when she questioned that assessment. She couldn’t believe this handsome man was actually flirting with her!

When Jonathan (“Milton”) and his brothers arrived at a pub after the reading of their grandfather’s Will, the server catches his eye immediately. She is probably 10 years younger than he is, but he enjoys her quick wit and she is definitely gorgeous. At the end of the evening, he is ready to get a cab and go home, but he sees Mia watching him and instead walks over to her. He offers to take her to dinner, hoping she will come home with him afterward. When he sees another book under the Grisham novel, “Burnham’s Introduction to Law”, it feels like ice water just got dumped on his head and he absolutely cannot date a law student. He immediately said a brusque “goodnight” and left her standing there confused. Will he explain what happened when he sees her in two months as she is applying for the internship opportunity with him? Will he still be unwilling to date a law student?

This was an enjoyable story with great characters the reader will immediately like. Well-written and well-paced, the story will hold your attention as their story plays out. Where will it end up? Grab your copy and share the journey.

This was a nice little read that I got for free featuring a 36-year old grumpy boss and his 24-year old intern. You’ve got a little bit of everything: age gap, workplace romance, forced proximity, protective alpha hero, some yummy scenes, and some good character growth for both MCs. I really can’t complain about it; it was truly solid pretty much all the way around. I liked Mia and Jonathan (Mia especially), the pacing in their relationship and the overall plot was good, and I loved their chemistry.

Two notable things that I really like and think helps it stand out in the sea of other similar contemporary romance novels, is that it subverted two common romance tropes: the jealous ex and the fairy godmother-like best friend. Won’t go too deep into this because spoilers, but when I found out Jonathan had an ex-wife I really expected her to be a larger part of the story and be the token jealous ex, and she wasn’t. Same with Mia’s best friend—I thought she’d be that sassy best friend who always does Mia’s hair or outfits and gives her the magical pep talks whenever she’s having doubts—and she wasn’t. I truly loved that I was thrown off and didn’t get the cliches I was expecting.

The two things that I think could be better is the writing and the way Vince’s storyline was dealt with. For the writing, there were quite a few areas of pure info dumps (especially in the beginning) and the author has a bit of a punctuated writing style. And by that it seems like very short, matter-of-fact descriptions. So the flow of the writing was just a bit weird at times for me. And for Vince, it just seemed very conveniently wrapped up; he was there and then he wasn’t. The book had made it seem like he would be a much bigger antagonist than he actually turned out to be.

Overall I enjoyed it and it did everything it set out to do. The author had the “romance” formula and she did it well, but I also didn’t find it groundbreaking or anything super exciting; it was just a nice comfortable read and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

One night led to a trickling effect with so much influence 😊 This is the first book in the Wolfe Brothers series I am guessing each book will feature one of the sexy brothers. Jonathan sexy as all get out Judge hanging out with his brothers at the local pub and the moment, he walks in the girl working grabs his attention never letting go but he sees that she is studying law which gives him second thoughts. Mia is a student, young working her butt off at the pub to earn some type of monies to continue her education, one evening the judge she applied to for her internship came in and the connection was sizzling between them but he up and walked out leaving her wondering what the what. The attraction was insanely instant from the moment they laid eyes on each other so when she comes in to do her internship the magnetic pull between them only grows strong. Jonathan has a reputation that proceeds him of being cold, distant, and stern with all his interns and true to his reputation he tried to be that with Mia but fate had other plans for the two of them but if they give in it could ruin his career, stunt or maybe stop her career dead in his tracks all that studying would have been for nothing, are they able to handle the twists & turns that come their way, will it all be worth it, and can they have happiness considering he is her boss she is his intern?.

I got to say

This book has the right amount of spice and drama that just keeps you reading. For this series I can’t make a decision yet if i like what one better but for now I know that I can’t wait to read the other books in this series. But anyways this book definitely has a different spin then I am used to reading especially when they first meant I think they where destined to be together especially since they meant when his grandfather died honestly I do believe death and birth they have that specific power to bring us together as a family and have the unexpected to happen, like it had been for Mia and Jonathan. When they first met, you definitely keep reading to figure out if this love at first sight. Since Mia and Jonathan had loads of chemistry all from just looking at another and that conversation was this relationship in works I got admit you knew they where going to cross paths again Mr. Wolfe will never be able to avoid her. Ok so now that was all the positive but the one problem I had I could of put this down and forget about it this book did not have a part where omg I have to keep reading this like now factor so with that said this why I gave it four stars and not five stars if it had just a little bit more drama to keep you reading this book would have been done already. p.s. I forgot to add it the positive is I love all the bonus chapters they where the best.

Judge Wolfe's Intern : Wolfe Brothers Book 1

Mia is a law student, needing a internship for the summer months. She works for a catering and at a bar to continue working for her money to go to college. She is in her last year to become a lawyer. The internship would be for a judge, it would be excellent experience for her and her career. A very handsome guy comes in the bar where she's working. He doesn't pay attention to her, but his brothers do. His brothers tell him to check her out. But, Jonathan isn't interested. He has been hurt before and doesn't want a relationship between anyone. The next deer she has a interview with the judge and she finds out it's Jonathan. She gets the position. He doesn't pay attention towards her and she thinks that he does not want her to be his intern. She finally realized that he needs to make her decisions about her job important enough to mentor her for the intern. They finally get together and he starts taking her seriously. This story was simply amazing to read. Kept me interested in the story. Never read books by this author, but she did a fantastic job in writing this story. It wasn't just a billionaire or a intent sex story about the two of them. ENJOY!

Jonathan & Mia

Absolutely loved this book!!!

Jonathan is a sitting judge and Mia is a law student who also works two jobs to make ends meet. Their first encounter is at her waitressing job when he comes in with his brothers after the reading of their grandfathers will.

Their are unsavory characters, deceitful ex friends and some drama involving Mia's dad.

All in all, very good story with an incident that almost totally destroys their relationship but it does get resolved. The epilogue and the bonus story are also worth the read!!!

I listened to this, and while it was a good story, I do wish that the reader had done a better job with distinguishing the voices. I often had a hard time figuring out who I was listening to.

The story is just as you would imagine by the title, but this is not for the faint of heart. The sex scenes are explicit, and there are more than a few of them. Still, there was a good balance between the sex scenes and the rest of the story.

This is the first in a series, but as I have no desire to read / listen to the rest, this is as far as I am going.

When Jonathan and his brothers come into the pub where Mia works, when he spots Mia, he is captivated with her, and everything was going well until he saw her the book she was reading. It appears that Mia is in law school and two months later she is vying for the internship with him. That internship will start them on their exciting journey. There will be a few twists and turns along the way, do they have what it takes to weather the storm to make it to a happily ever after.

Love this realistic story about Judge Wolf and Mia who he meets at the bar she works at then later finds out she is a law student and applying for his intern position. The story kept me captivated- a few slow parts. This is a new author for me and I’d say I’ve become a fan. Looking forward to the next book and I’ll probably read about all the Wolf brothers back to back. Very entertaining and enjoyable

So I came across this book because I have the second one in this series from a stuff your kindle event and I like to read books in series order even if they could be standalone, so I had to start with this one lol. I enjoyed this. It was just a lighthearted fun sweet read. I liked Mia, she was definitely hard worker goal getter. Johnathon was a sweetheart and very protective over Mia, which I loved.

Enjoyable read

Enjoyable story about Judge Jonathan and his intern Mia. She first meets a handsome man at O'Connor's bar where she works part-time. She is in her 2nd year of studying Law and has applied to intern at Wolfe's. Little did she know that he was the one she had been drooling over in the bar. 🔥read.

My Irish Eyes Are Smiling

I loved it! Of course, you could hand me any book with a taste of Ireland, and I would love it, but North's story of Mia and Johnathan was terrific. It was full of fun, love, adventure, questions, and a bit of eroticism. Jump into the book, you won't want to put it down, and enjoy a deeply felt love story.

So not bad for a first book. Way way too long and wordy. I skipped lots of parts and didn’t miss anything. A little too boring and a lot too predictable - not enough drama and read kind of like a high school after school special. Honestly between a 2 and 3 star for me. Nothing special and don’t think I will read this author ever again.

Big Bad Wolfe & Little Red

Wow, this was an intense kinda book. Parent problems, Family debts and sins, ex's drama, work place drama, poor girl, rich older guy.

Cora loved how this whole series of characters were included in the first book. Love seeing how the characters grown from book to book, while keeping each book a standalone. Can't wait to continue.

Johnathan and Mia a very sweet story full of some crazy highs and lows. I really enjoyed getting to know these characters and I can’t wait to read the rest of the series and find out what happens with the rest of the wolfe’s. Cora did an excellent job with these characters and with the storyline. You should definitely pick up this book.

This was cute! The conflict felt real but also caused some tension. I enjoyed Jonathan’s POV and felt it was needed because of the power imbalance between the two. They were a well matched pair
