You find out about a town called Petrichor, in the year of 2002 which is 20 years before the setting of the books. Ava is a child when the dragons retaliate against the town for the actions of werewolves. The dragons burn the town. Ava survives and since she knows it was dragons she hates them. She grows up and is part of a bodyguard group- Aegis. People do not know about the Supernaturals that live around them- various shifters, fae, witches, etc. Ava meets a female elf while on assignment and the scared elf tells her of her future- dragons. That upsets Ava and she gets a call from someone she tries to ignore. There are a group of human hunters that are killing Supernaturals because they believe that ALL of them are dangerous and they don’t want another Petrichor. They hunt in four close towns- Malves, Larkensville, Frank & Buxendale. They are led by Parker and all of them are fanatical killers. Ava isn’t like that. Her next assignment coincides with Christopher Mason, who is extremely rich playboy and a dragon, a son of one of the dragon destroyers of Petrichor. His dragon butler and friend decides that since he has heard of many Supernaturals disappearances and deaths that Chris needs a bodyguard- Ava. Parker wants Ava to find out if Chris is a dragon and kill him for the “cause.” Things happen and Ava realizes that the hunter guild are murderers that she wants no part of and tries to protect Chris from them. The fight scenes are AWESOME! I loved this book. I adore the reaction from the police when Ava tells them about the underground that leads to the other cities. Lol tooo funny! Pay attention to the chapter titles- some of them are so funny! I enjoyed them!~
Set 1 bk2: Bree (Brianna) Sanders is a young elf in the car with her parents being yelled at because she was friendly with a dragon boy. As elves believe in the purity of the bloodline and to prevent that taint from happening they are not supposed to mingle with others. Then the dragon fire comes. Her parents don’t make it. She is the elf that has a prophecy for Ava in the previous book. Lex Mutton is a dragon in Frink, and saves Bree at the bar he is at when a group of nasty werewolves try stuff with her. Bree is on the run from the Don of the Elf Mafia. lol. I know it sounds hysterically funny, but they are scary! I adore Lex’s little girl neighbor. She is a riot! Lol. Of course, her past finally catches up with her, but Lex is drawn to her and she to him. I love how things get resolved. When I found out the why of the mafia- why they were chasing her, I was livid. I found this book to be a very long ride on a roller coaster of emotion. The first book was a bit more exciting.
Set 1 Bk3: Lottie Coleman is a witch who is on the run. She watched her parents die to protect her from the mage’s who are hunting her. She is an extremely powerful witch and her powers are unique. She starts out in the trees around Petrichor and runs from the mages and somehow makes a Portal. She comes through and almost kills a dragon- Tyler. His father is in jail for killing Tyler’s mother- but a witch had killed her, but they couldn’t prove it to the mundane authorities. Tyler helps Lottie escape the 3 mages hunting her, even though he hates witches. There is a major shocker with the Portal. He brings Lottie to his friend Theresa. There are some more reveals about the full truth of what happened in Petrichor. Lottie is originally from Larkensville and it is a very different place than when she left it. I love McAllen the cop. She is awesome! The mages finally find her and it is insane what happens next! Insane and I didn’t see it coming.
Set 1 finale: In this book we find out all about the cop- McAllen. She is with her family when Petrichor happens. Her uncle was part of the cause of what the dragons did. Her Uncle gave them the time to get away- Fiona, Mark and Aunt Muriel. Yep- this takes place in Buxondale, and Fiona is part of the Connecticut Division of Patrol. Mark has become what he always wanted- Alpha and he is up to something with the Pack. Fiona isn’t part of the pack. So much happens in this book! Malcolm and Fiona have a past. Malcolm is a dragon shifter. They meet again during one of Mark’s schemes. I really enjoyed the first tetralogy! All of the fight scenes in the four books are AWESOME!

The idea or basic concept was interesting but the execution was lacking. Overall the plot was missing or inconsistent in details and the writing style was kind of childish. The author would make claims about her characters that weren't supported by the character development at all. For instance, the inner monologue of the female lead said Chris was going to be hard to deal with cuz he was intelligent yet so far as I was concerned there was zero intelligence written into his character up to that point. In speaking about the female lead she was made out to be a badass but she ends up crying and whining the first time she gets a chance to kill him so she seemed like a sniveling snit rather than a badass heroine. In a nutshell the plot details don't line up, and statements made about the plot and her characters are not supported by the plot or character development so with the childishness and the sniveling whining female lead I quit halfway through the first book.
There is nothing complicated in these stories: people from different races meet and fall in love. They overcome one or other external force that threatens their lives, but nothing that cannot be overcome seemingly easily and quickly.
There is so much unexplored and underdeveloped potential in these stories. The author sets up a unique environment and great plotlines only to abandon them in favour of a mediocre plot development between the hero and the heroine. Their relationship is spiced up with a few detailed sex scenes and a happy ending and that is the end of the story. There is so much potential in linking the different stories together, developing the antagonists into real menaces and investigating the relationship between each enemy-to-lover scenario.
The author has given us a wonderful collection of stories that pull us into the lives of the characters and do not let go. We are given humans, shifters, witches and supernaturals, what more could you want? Each story keeps us turning the pages with fear, danger, action and steam.

Twenty years ago, the town of Petrichor is burned to the ground with dragon fire. This act of vengeance changes the lives of four dragon shifters and the women who become their mates. All four of these stories have action aplenty, romance, and steam, with each ending in a HEA. Very highly recommended.
I read this series before and it’s just as exciting to read still. There is so much action, drama, tragedy, trauma, romance and some humor as well. I only wish that there was another book added to this series. Excellent reading as always.
