There are monsters among us. They live in disguise, prowling in the shadows. They commit unimaginable atrocities. They target the innocent and the most vulnerable. Regardless, the victims will eventually find peace and the evil-doers will forever be condemned to a fiery inferno…
To many that know her, FBI agent Blake Wilder is a pillar for truth and the dealer of justice. When faced with threats and adversity, you can count on her to continue to fight for what is right. With her sister Kit clinging to life after being attacked, Blake and her team are called away to solve a case in North Dakota.
Teenage girls from prominent families are going missing and the local Sheriff is at a loss to understand who’s taking them—or why. As Blake and her team start investigating, they find themselves caught up in a power struggle between the town’s locals and a community of indigenous people. But when the girls start turning up dead and the pressure to find the killer starts ramping up, Blake finds herself peeling back the layers of a monstrous series of murders. And the deeper they go down that rabbit hole, the more incomprehensible it gets. As heroes are unmasked and they’re proven to be the monsters that lurk in the shadows hunting children, a small town is left horrified and shocked. It’s a case that will leave scars on everybody involved and will change them all.
Who is the monster behind the lost children? And who is the culprit behind Kit’s attack? Evil converges and the truth finds itself trying to escape its buried darkness to come into the light.
Elle Gray lives in a small town with her 2 cats, and her handsome husky. As a girl, she was obsessed with crime novels and thrillers.
Today, she loves writing and creating thrilling novels with courageous, strong heroes/heroines and dangerous psychopaths. She invites you to join her exciting world of detectives and FBI agents that take down killers and kick butt.
I want to start by saying, the writing was great. The characters felt distinct and unique. The plot was easy enough to follow along. It felt like I was watching a criminal minds episode.
That being said, it felt EXACTLY like a criminal minds episode. I was able to call the ending 50% through the book and it felt like I was waiting for everyone to catch up for the remaining half of the book. For thrillers, I don’t necessarily like being able to call an ending that quickly… I want to be shocked! Overall, it was a good book nonetheless
As Blake says in every book, I don't believe in coincidences. And it's not a coincidence that this installment takes SIGNIFICANT details from an episode of Criminal Minds. The author adds in some racism to make it more relevant to today, but that isn't enough to make up for the tired (and obvious) plot, the constant cliches, and the tiresome repetition.
I wanted to stick with the series because I wanted to know the outcome of the big arc, but that's become beyond ridiculous. I used to think these books were free due to Kindle Unlimited but I'm paying for them in time I can't get back.
I will warn you in advance.....this story is not for the faint of heart. The current case that Wilder and her team caught is one of the most disturbing, horrific, and sadistic stories that I have read. That's saying something considering that I read an average of 5-7 books a week, and have for years. It's certainly a twisted thriller that is intriguing as it is horrifying. One of the things that I really hate about reading a series is when there's a cliffhanger ending, especially something major like how this story ended. It's why I usually refuse to read any series until it has been completed. The problem I have with cliffhangers is that it usually takes at least a few months before the next book is available, and in that time I have forgotten what the last story was building towards with the dramatic ending. I would rather have the next book start with the previous ending than to leave the readers hanging in the balance, as well as forgetting about it altogether. Hopefully it won't be long before the next book will be released. I would definitely recommend this book, series, and author.
Wow, what a horrid ride this book was!! Monster is too nice of a word for this guy!!

I've now read all of the Blake Wilder series available to date
I am an avid reader of mystery thrillers. I wanted to read all of the available books in this series before writing my review. I've read books 1 through 12 and have to say this is a very good series. Each book is better than the previous one. The story lines are well structured and believable. The characters are well developed and endearing. The first few books should have been edited better, lots of mistakes, but not enough to keep me from enjoying them. I read the first 12 books in less than 2 weeks. Elle Gray is well on her way to being a J D Robb or a David Baldacci. I've already pre ordered book 13 in the series. The only con that I have is that I'm ready for the sub plot woven through the series to end.
Not for the faint of heart. As I was reading I was thinking eww, I hope this doesn’t go there, but it does. Once again Blake and Her team are called out to assist a small town sheriff with a grisly crime. Her and her team have grown from 4 to 6, requiring a dynamics readjustment. They have found another serial killer and are racing against the clock hoping to find the murder before they add to the body count. In the background we have The Thirteen and Blake’s sister Kit, clinging to life. Was so excited when I finished this I began reading number #13 ~ No More Lies before I wrote this review. Yup, I’m hooked and invested.
This has been a both exciting book, and one that the end will be in your mind a long time. Blake and her crew have come up against many things in the past, but this time, the death's of many young girls, all in one town, is hitting everyone hard. The local Sheriff's department, has never had any cases like this, so they called the FBI. Will they work together to solve the case, or will they hinder it. Kudos to Elle Gray for another great book. I love all the other books Elle writes. It you haven't read her books, you should be.
The outcome and so-called twist of this book were both so completely obvious from the minute a certain character was introduced, I kept hoping I was wrong and there was some sort of surprise coming, but nope, exactly as I predicted early on and not even remotely as "shocking" as the author clearly thought it would be. I'm also tired of these characters, they are all so one dimensional and there has been almost no character development throughout the series. Its been coming for a while now, but I think I'm officially done with Blake Wilder.
The crime scenarios are exponentially more gruesome, book by book.
The story also touches upon the centuries-old pattern of dismissal and disrespect by law enforcement at every level towards people of color, especially, in this instance, indigenous women.
While this inequality in application of the law certainly requires attention and exposure, Ms. Gray’s plot device feels exploitative rather than illuminating. (My feeling.)
Possible spoiler alert. Liked this story but the more I read the plot became familiar to me. Not that that is a bad thing. But as a fan of Criminal minds TV show, having watched every episode at least twice, the plot is markedly similar to one of their episodes. But this expanded the story and made it more interesting than the 42 minutes of the TV show. Maybe Elle Gray wrote the screen play?
These FBI thrillers are much easier for me to figure out than the thrillers I've been reading recently. I had this one pegged from the beginning including all the gross extras. It feels good to know what's going on again. Easier but not less bloody; I haven't read one this disturbing in a long time. It has reminiscent tones of Fried Green Tomatoes. If you want to know more you should read The Missing Girls.
I want to personally thank the author Elle Gray, for the wonderful writing. I have read 12 books of the Blake Wilder series’s. They are all exceptional.Book 12 helped me medically. I was diagnosed with Catatonia after a pneumonia diagnosis. I couldn’t string two thoughts together.I am recovering with medication & support of my family. Most of all to Elle Gray. I sincerely thank you.
A captivating story line. One of those exciting adventures that kept my interests with each new chapter. At the end when Blake looked into that freezer and saw all of those frozen girls on meat hooks I thought I might get sick. Also finding the boxes of packaged meat.......I think I will need to talk with someone about this. If you have a queasy stomach, this is not the book for you.
This if the 12th book in the Blake Wilder FBI series and by far one of the best When Blake and her team are sent to a small town in North Dakota they are a bit confused. It seems to be a case of missing girls which not usually what they investigate. But this case isn't what it seems. The more they investigate the more confusing it becomes. Fast paced suspense at its finest and a powerful ending you don't see coming.
Well if you’re wondering why I’m reading so much, my upper right arm snd shoulder have been killing me since the end of June. I’m going to a chiropractor but it’s not helping. My regular doc is seeing me Monday. Not sure if it’s overuse cuz I play a lot of computer games so I’m cutting back on games and reading. Just found out there’s 30 books to this series. This one left on a cliffhanger. Can’t wait to read the next
The "Missing Girls" is easily Elle's best novel ever. Blake and her team are flown to North Dakota to find the serial that is killing and dissecting young girls. Cut out a piece of time, because you are not going to want to stop reading. Blake Wilder may be the best Ever!
It’s always a sure bet to read an Elle Gray book, and with The Missing Girls, (Blake Wilder FBI Mystery Thriller Book 12) you win it all! From the first page to the last Blake is on the move and trying to keep the bad guys locked up. This book is a gut puncher with the drama and the ending is more horrifying than usual.
A truly dark mystery of epic proportions. Blake Wilder and her team start out trying to figure out whether there is even a case and find themselves dumped into the worst of their careers. What started as four young women missing turns into a killing spree beyond belief. Couldn’t stop reading. Be sure you have plenty of time to read.
This was an agonizing mystery... The ending scared me ! Just to think am author had this in mind was what made me anxious but just happy I finished it before dark!!! Why did you end on this note and no e poor Blake right into hell???hurry up and get the next book written!!! Crazy mind.
This was the first I was able to figure out the killer before the end. This was great for me, although this means that I feel that the other 11 in this truly amazing seares has put Elle firmly in my brain. She has risen to the very top of my list. I highly recomend this work as a must read.
I continue to enjoy this FBI series between the cases Blake takes on with her team and the never ending saga with the Thirteen. I will wait for the next installment in this series with the hopes of at least getting a conclusion to the Thirteen, or at least I hope so as I would want Kit to join Blake on these FBI cases, without all the other drama.
Finally got to #5. Enjoyed this one very much. When will we know about "Stone" ? 🤔 Is Kit gonna make it or not. Are you leaving us hanging or gonna give us an ending? How to know what s coming next? #13? When? 🤔 13, unlucky #, 😈can't stop there...waiting to hear!!! Tweety🐦🐦
Wow! Wow! Wow! This one is had me absolutely spell bound. From Kit being in a coma to Blake and her entire team on a case I will not soon forget. One book left in this series. Sad that it coming to an end. I hope this author has more series for me to lose a few hours in.
The Missing Girls(Blake Wilder FBI Mystery Thriller Book 12)
OMG!!!!!!!! This story was disturbing and sickening. I feel very sorry for several of Blake's team, they have a lot of stuff they need to process mentally. Know we need to worry about Blake, she is in real danger and I hope she gets out of it.
The story was one that I would not want to be involved with. The way the individual killed and why was something that should never happen but there probably is someone who could do what he did. The ending was a surprise even though I had guessed the possibility of the person doing what he did. It was interesting reading.
The story flowed well and was constantly interesting. It was too easy to figure out "who done it," but other than that, it was very compelling. The underlying story is getting annoying, though. I'm glad it wasn't a focus in this book. Truly sick of "TO BE CONTINUED"!!
Be careful what you eat, especially when it's free!
Another great read. This book kept you in suspense through to the end. I like the group seems to be getting along a lot better. One can learn from the way the team tackles and explains how to put thins together. It gives you a great understanding of the crime fighters world. You will definitely enjoy this book.
I bought this book not knowing it was part of a series. Even though it’s part of a series I didn’t feel like I had missed a lot. It was a very short read and I enjoyed it! I had it figured out from half way through and I was proud of myself. Now I have to read the next one to finite our what happens because it left me with a cliffhanger. I recommend this.
This book started out interesting with Blake thinking it is so cold in North Dakota and wearing a scarf over her face and you really feel for her until you find out the temp is in the 40’s which isn’t even mitten wearing weather. The team starts working together better and the ending is totally horrifying.
