“You are not alone” I’ve waited my whole life to hear those words…
Emma Jean is merely surviving life as a senior in high school. Amarillo, Texas is a town full of big hair and beauty pageants, which isn’t really Emma Jean’s style. She puts on a brave face, but behind closed doors at home she endures ridicule and emotional abuse. When her mom’s desperate need to control her goes too far, Emma Jean packs up everything and runs away. A portal opens up, pulling her into a new realm with magic. In the land of Thrystle, the king despises newcomers and will do everything in his power to get rid of her—even death. With the help of new and unexpected friends, she fights to claim her place in a world she’s grown to love. Can she become the brave girl she truly wants to be, or will fear get in her way?
I love the beginning character set up —-struggle with self-esteem and emotional abuse. I really felt for the main character and wanted her to succeed. The sci-fi aspect wove magic into the story—some of the magic seemed a little too good to be true—but overall, a good book. Fun writing and great details. I look forward to reading more from this new author.
This is such a fun story. The characters have some really big feelings and tough emotions, but learn to work though them. I loved learning about the new realm and all of the creatures and power there!
