With over 1 million reads worldwide, Missing in the Pages is an exciting and heartfelt story full of swashbuckling pirates, dangerous romance, and one girl's quest to find her home.
After eighteen-year-old Elizabeth Burrough's father went missing six years ago, all Elizabeth has ever felt is alone. Ostracized at school and ignored at home by her perpetually grieving mother, Elizabeth’s only solace lies within the pages of her favorite book, filled with daring sword fights and adventurous heroines. But when she awakes one morning to discover she's somehow inside the novel, it seems the glamorous world of eighteenth-century England may be more perilous than she'd ever expected. And when the striking but harsh Captain Carter McLeod decides he can use Elizabeth for his own gain, she is suddenly thrust into a treacherous life of deceit, envy, and revenge.
But as Elizabeth finds herself inexplicably drawn to the merciless captain, she begins to realize that Carter’s past is filled with darker secrets than she ever realized. And when Carter determines Elizabeth's help is imperative in recovering a treasure that had been stolen from him long ago, the dangers that lurk beneath the surface of the polished English nobility start to rise up around them. In a place where it seems no one is completely trustworthy and where darkness hides around every corner, Elizabeth must decide whether there is actually anything awaiting her back home or if this dangerously exhilarating world is where she truly belongs.
Ashley Tropea comes from an Egyptian-Italian family and has been writing since she was 11. She finished her first novel by the age of 14 and published it online for free, where she received an overwhelming amount of positive feedback, earning a combined 1.5 million reads worldwide.
In addition to her (perhaps unhealthy) obsession with books, she is also a huge tv junkie. She studied writing for tv at Loyola Marymount University where she graduated with a BA in Screenwriting. Her scripts have performed just as well as her novels, placing in numerous screenwriting competitions and regularly ranking in the top 10 on Coverfly's Red List.
With a special place in her heart for fantasies and ball gowns, Ashley intends to spread her love of large worlds, adventure, and romance through her novels and films.
one of my favorite books of all time. where do i start ? the authors writing style , their plot twists , their ideas , their characters. i was so invested in the series to the point where i didn’t feel like i was reading something cringey in wattpad. the author made everything seem professional. i’ve fallen in love with carter and the violin and the idea of living in the old times and being a lady in the court. this series made me wanna be kidnapped straight into a ship and to fall in love with a brown haired hazel eyed man and to start my own adventure and to be fearless.
I first read the Missing in the pages series on Wattpad and the CHOKEHOLD this series has on me. IT GOT ME ADDICTED TO ANYTHING REGARDING PIRATES. IVE BECOME ADDICTED TO LITERAL SHIPS 🛳 BECAUSE OF THIS BOOK. I SERIOUSLY CRY JUST THINKING ABOUT CARTER & ELIZABETH. So when the author revealed that it was going to be published????? I SAID TAKE MY MONEY. TAKE IT. I LOVE THIS SERIES TO DEATH. CARTER & ELIZABETH FOREVER. PLEASE. STOP. MY HEART. I HAVE THE PHYSICAL BOOK AND WHENEVER I SEE IT ON MY SHELF A WAVE OF EMOTIONS JUST HIT ME. DID I JUST SAY WAVE? HELLO? CARTER & ELIZABETH?!!?! 😩😩♥️♥️♥️
I am a sucker for the troupe when a character is pulled into a well-known story of their own universe. This amazing story takes that traditional storyline and flips it on its head in the most incredible ways. Where the narrator is usually quite reliable because the story they've been pulled into is one they are passionate about, our protagonist finds herself in an unfamiliar setting as the story shifts and molds around her, creating a brand new tale that she most survive as the main character in her beloved series. The action takes off immediately and doesn't slow down, even through the ending where you, as the reader, are left with your mouth hanging open at the sheer brilliance. The author's balance of humor and sincerity makes the characters and the world they live in so believable and realistic. These are characters that stick with you which is a true sign of good writing. I'll find myself recalling them when certain songs come on or when I'm scrolling through TikTok and hear an audio that reminds me of a specific scene or interaction. I cannot get this book out of my head, and cannot wait to see what else Ashley Tropea releases. She has quickly become one of my favorites!
I absolutely loved this book. It keeps you hooked with so many twists and turns through out. The chemistry between Carter and Elizabeth is amazing and the storyline is excellent. I couldn’t put it down. Highly recommend this book!
I didn't expect to be submerged deep I to this world but holy cow what an intriguing pull these pages held. Fantastic world building, epic suspense, slow burn love, its everything a book should be and more! I'm in love
This was a reread for me. It's been a long time since I originally read it on the writing platform, Inkitt. I always wished it was a published book after my first time reading it. And when I found (recently) that it was published, I knew it was something I wished to add to my book collection!
I immensely enjoyed my reread and can't wait to read the second one! And I can't wait for the last one to come out later this year!
What more can I say: I have such an attachment to this fantastic novel (and the ones that follow!), and I will always praise Tropea for creating such an incredible storyline - filled with beautifully crafted characters, intriguing mysteries and scenes that I can always vividly imagine; thriving and flourishing within the setting of eighteenth-century England. It meets every single thing I would ever want in a novel: historical representation, pirates, complex love, the challenge of stereotypes, and characters I would literally lay down my life for.
Elizabeth as a protagonist and narrator allows a reader to really see not only the challenges an eighteen-year-old female might face in the twenty-first century but also the complications dealt with by genuine young females during the time period. Tropea beautifully and accurately forges the world of a woman living in the 1700s, not shying away from challenging the romanticised picture we as readers may see in other historical fiction novels. Whilst building the incredible plot surrounding Elizabeth's central difficulty of returning to her familiar life in the modern day, Tropea is able to confront her and other female characters with authentic complexities of the past, including those of upper-class marriage, the feminine competition to please and provide, the relationship with men and the large concern over reputation. And it is done astoundingly.
It must also be mentioned the fantastic way in which Tropea crafts the antagonistic characters of the plot, hiding them from plain view until a mass amount of tension towards the conclusion of the novel. Whilst keeping within the believable boundaries of the upper-class society of the time, the reader sees characters like Hugh Lawrence and James Wilson simply get away with things that will forever disgust and loathe readers and characters alike. By doing this, Tropea opens up a side of eighteenth-century England that was not often discussed in texts written at the time due to male dominance in the writing world, and for that, we can now explore a more raw version of what happened behind closed doors in the class of riches. The writer does an incredible job of producing believable and shocking scandals throughout the course of the plot and refines them with the consequences faced by those unable to do anything about them. And for that, I will forever have vengeance on Hugh Lawrence - I have never hated someone more in my whole life.
The novel itself is consistently engaging: never have I once felt the need to put it down (unless I need a moment to stop the tears - curse you, Carter!). I am guilty of often spending whole nights just solidly binge-reading this novel series, and you know what, I'm proud of that. The characters inspire, the atmosphere is captivating, and the plot delivers everything a reader could hope for. The novel takes you on an emotional rollercoaster as you experience the complicated lives of each and every person within it, with their entirely different circumstances and passions.
I will always recommend this novel to anyone who comes up to me asking for a recommendation. I will never tire of it, simply because of Tropea's pure skill and imagination that has created this beautiful, beautiful treasure of a book.

This book was a very interesting read. It really made you think and you were constantly trying to work out what was going on. This was a book that I enjoyed reading from beginning to end and I honestly can’t wait to start the next one in the series to find out what the heck is happening. If you are a fan of pirates, history, romance, fighting, adventure, mystery, you will really enjoy this book. Honestly this book made my heart actually ache more times than I can count and it takes a really good book to make me feel that. So give it a read, you won’t regret it.
Read this a while ago and it’s still one of my most favourite series ever! Self published authors deserve more credit…I would love to purchase a physical copy of this book one day😭
I read this trilogy years ago on Inkitt (a Wattpad dupe) and I remember loving it, it was something that I reread multiple times. So when I saw that they got published ai had to read them once again and see if they are as good as I remembered. I did indeed have a fun time reading this book, pirates are my weakness and this satisfied my Pirates of the Caribbean obsession. But although I liked the plot and romance, this first book was repetitive and not very interesting until the very end and also had some plot holes. I'm looking forward to the second book because I'm liking the direction it's going in.
Devoured this book! Hadn’t read the original wattpad version but I love love loved this one!! If pirates of the Caribbean met pride and prejudice … TOO GOOD!! Relatable protagonist, sexy adventure, slow-burn romance, action packed adventure, it truly has it all. Can’t wait to read the rest!!
I have read this book at least 4 times but this was my first time reading it published! The world and character building in this book never fails to excite me and get me invested. Forever my comfort read.
First book is good but the story after in the other books just wasn't that good. Also the ending of the third book sucked, it was so anticlimactic and and honestly just bad.
What a great start to this series! I love the characters, very believable and easy to love (amongst other feelings). Carter’s character description resembles my boyfriend in a way so that was an added bonus for me. Buying him a billowy pirate shirt as we speak (read?). With a great ending to set up the next book - highly recommend!
