A dark, brooding biker hell-bent on proving his innocence. A dead woman who deserves justice. The perfect lure for an investigative journalist looking to make a name for herself.
But when I get stuck in a remote cabin with a potential killer I have to wonder – is a Pulitzer Prize-worthy story worth my life?

Working with Zoe is a dream come true. She’s my role model in investigative journalism – and I aim to impress her.

My first assignment is a Prove a wrongfully convicted man’s innocence.

The problem? Surge is one of the Dark Slayers. Not exactly the most sympathetic case.

When I meet him, he’s everything you’d expect from a Dark, brooding, tatted up – and with an alluring air of danger.

But is he a killer? That’s what I set out to discover, and then my world blows up.

Surge – assisted by the MC – goes on the run, and if I want my story I have to go into hiding with him.

Now, I’m in a remote cabin with a potential murderer – and resisting his rugged charms is impossible.

I always fall for the bad boys. And Surge is as scorching hot as he is stubborn and irritating.

As I unpeel the layers of his case, I’m torn between the facts and my desire to prove he’s a good man wronged.
But each new twist creates an ever more complex case.

Am I about to burn my future to the ground – and my heart along with it?

"Surge" is the 10th book in the "Dark Slayers MC” hot and alluring romance series featuring bikers who will remind you why you like the bad boys so much. They’re protective, rough, and running on pure diesel and adrenaline.
Each book in the series is a standalone with a guaranteed happily ever after for the couple, though it is recommended to read them in order for maximum enjoyment.

Guilty Until Proven Innocent

This was Surge’s life and he already had spent four years in the pen having to watch his back the whole-time in. He just was told that his father has passed and it was worked out that he would be able to attend the funeral so now plans were in action to prove his innocence.

Charlene was a young investigative reporter who was given the chance to prove her abilities to the woman she looked up to and who just happens to be the wife of Storm, the Dark Slayers MC Prez. She was given the task to prove Surge’s innocence and find the real killer.

This book was full of suspense, drama and steam and had you trying to find the real killer right along with Surge and Charlene. I loved as their chemistry grew and the strong, intuitive woman that Charlene was. This was another great addition to the Dark Slayers MC series.

I was captivated by Surge and Charlene's story, once I started it I couldn't put it down.
Surge is looking at 20 years in prison after being wrongfully convicted for killing his girlfriend. When his life is threatened four years later and still unable to prove his innocence, he escapes with the help of his MC brothers. Charlene, a investigative journalist was hired by the MC to help him prove his innocence goes into hiding with him. Will they discover the real murderer?
The characters are amazing and the storyline will captivate you with action, intrigue, steamy chemistry, twists and turns that will keep you turning the pages.
Overall, it was well written exciting read with strong characters and amazing supporting characters. Love a whodunnit mystery!
I highly recommend it.

This is the tenth book in the Dark Slayers MC series and it, like the others, does fail to entertain its readers. It starts out with Noah Oliver, aka Surge, going out into the yard at Westerville State Correctional. He spent three years keeping out of trouble there just to be moved to the minimum security section. In fact, not only was he bribing a fellow inmate with cigarettes to run interference so he could stay out of trouble but his MC brothers, the Dark Slayers, were giving the inmate's family money on the outside of the prison. Surge had no idea how long that would last for because he was only on his fourth year of a twenty year sentence for murder. He was convicted of throwing his girlfriend off the balcony of their apartment. Anyway, he steps out into the yard and heads to a corner so he can get a quick smoke in when all of a sudden Snake, an enemy of Surge and a fellow inmate who should still be in maximum security, beelines towards Surge when the inmate he's paying sends his crew to intercept him. Snake storms off in the other direction but Surge knows it's only a matter of time before they confront each other. Then Surge is told he has a visitor. He gets to the visitor center and finds his MC's president, Storm, waiting to talk to him. When he sees Storm's face he knows it's bad news and he thinks that he's there to take his Slayers cut from him, revoking his membership. Storm tells him that that's not why he's there. He informs Surge that his father has died and he has the MC's lawyer working on getting him a pass to attend the funeral. He thanks Storm for telling him and he's very disappointed that he didn't prove his innocence while his father was still alive. He's saddened by the fact that he spend so much time away from his father because of a wrongful conviction. Next we see Storm's wife, Zoe, conducting an interview for an investigative journalist for her nationally recognized vlog, News Not to Miss. She's interviewing Charlene "Charlie "Housen for the position. She seems to think that Charlie will be a good fit for the position, especially with her no quit attitude and stunning qualifications. Zoe decides to offer her the job on a temporary ninety day trial. She asks Charlie if she's familiar with the Innocence Project. Charlie says she's familiar with it, that it's a nonprofit organization that helps people who were wrongly convicted. Zoe emails her a file on Noah Oliver and asks her to look over it. Charlie asks her if she thinks he's innocent of killing his girlfriend and Zoe explains that she's never met the man but knows that he's innocent. She goes on to explain that her husband, Storm, says that he didn't do it. He vets all the incoming people for the Dark Slayers MC, with heavy emphasis on anything domestic violence related plus he's extremely intuitive about people and he insists Noah is innocent. Charlie agrees to investigate further into the case and promises to follow the clues no matter where they take her. A few days pass and Surge is released from prison with an ankle monitor to attend his father's funeral. He has been released into the custody of the Slayers' attorney, Mr. Gray, who we find out has a grudge against the D.A., who just happens to be the prosecutor who put Surge in prison. Mr. Gray has taken it upon himself to see that all the cases prosecuted by this D.A. be overturned because of the way the D.A. treated his niece, destroying her mentally in their divorce. He wants to make the D.A. suffer by stripping him of his professional dignity. Storm who is there with Surge's bike, offers to help Mr. Gray in anyway he can. Storm and Surge hop on their bikes and begin the long trek home from Arizona to California, Griffinsford to be exact. They get back to the Slayers clubhouse where they relax and visit a little bit before escorting Surge to the funeral home so he can have some private time with his father. They get done with the funeral and are back at the clubhouse when Storm broaches the idea of Surge not returning to prison. That it'd be safer with him out of prison and he can be hands on with solving who actually killed his girlfriend. Before too long, Storm has convinced Surge to forgo going back to prison and Hacker, the MC's tech guy, removes the tracker ankle bracelet. Storm informs Surge that it's all planned out and they have the perfect hiding spot for him, it's a club member's wife's cabin. Plus, Storm informs him that they've hired an investigator to help figure out what happened. Storm points out Charlie to Surge, who doesn't look at all impressed with her. She's not sure if it's the fact that she's a female or that she's so young that turns him off but she argues with him to let her help him. He reluctantly agrees. Before she knows it, she's been guilt tripped into going with Surge to the remote, isolated cabin. According to Zoe, someone has to keep an eye on him because he just buried his father and he now has to figure out how to solve the mysterious death of his girlfriend especially since Charlie did promise to follow the clues no matter where they lead; what better way then by the side of the wrongfully convicted person. They get to the cabin and both go to their separate rooms. Charlie is exhausted and soon nods off to sleep. Surge on the other hand can't sleep at all because of nightmares, he finally has enough and goes out onto the front porch to smoke where he apparently falls asleep. The next morning Charlie wakes up, goes downstairs and walks out the door to the front porch where she trips over Surge. He's a grumpy gus to her and storms into the cabin to go fix some coffee when he discovers Charlie has already made some. He grabs a cup and then sees her cooking breakfast. He turns to stomp away from her when he notices she's set the table for two so he promptly sits down. They finally have a decent conversation between the two of them by finding common ground in cooking. After breakfast Surge tells her that he needs to get out for a while to which she informs him that she spoke with Zoe earlier and the police were none to happy with him not showing up at his designated turn in location at the time he was supposed to be there. Suffice it to say, there was a mad manhunt going on for him so he couldn't go anywhere else if someone spotted him he was as good as being arrested, with them throwing away the key. He tells her he needs to get out, he feels as trapped there then in his cell. Then she figures out that he just needs fresh air so he goes out side. She then starts cleaning the mess from breakfast and when she looks out the window she sees Surge, shirtless, chopping wood. She takes some time to enjoy the magnificent view especially since she already found him quite good looking. Then she gets to work. She takes the large case file folder and decides to setup in the small dining room where she makes a murder board. She puts up a photo of the murder victim, Denise, followed by a photo of Surge, the only photo is his mugshot, as well as pictures of the witnesses and the crime scene photos. She marks what each photo is on a masking tape label beneath each photo. She gets quite a bit done when all of a sudden Surge comes in and when he sees what she's done he goes ballistic, ripping down everything and tearing it into pieces saying that she's disrespecting the victim and he doesn't appreciate his mugshot going up as the only suspect. They get into a huge argument which culminates in him telling her that he's going out for a run and he wants her gone by the time he gets back. With those parting words he slams out the door and disappears into the woods surrounding the cabin. Charlie is at a loss for words and doesn't know what to make of his reaction. She decides that the only thing she can do is call Zoe, explain what just happened and get some advice on what to do next. Zoe and Charlie analyze everything that was said and his reactions. Zoe then asks if Charlie is scared of him and she tells her she doesn't have to stay there with him, that she could work remotely. Charlie explains to Zoe that she can't just pick up and leave that he needs to be a part of clearing his own name to help get rid of this repressed anger from the repressed hurt he's feeling from the whole situation. She and Zoe finish their conversation and it's agreed that she's staying put. She decides to leave the mess for Surge to clean up because it's his mess after all and she isn't his servant. She heads upstairs and locks herself in her bedroom and begins working on the case digital file on her laptop. Sometime later Surge returns to the cabin and sees Charlie's. SUV still there and it brings a smile to his face. Charlie on the other hand hears Surge quietly come into the cabin and he seems to have calmed down considerably. He notices that she's left the mess he made for him to clean up, which he proceeds to do, and while he's at it he takes his printed case file copies and reassembles her case collage. After doing this he decides to head upstairs and take a shower to get cleaned off. He finishes a relaxing shower and steps into his room, noticing his full dirty clothes bag he decides to take them to the washer. Of course he's only has a towel around his waist when he steps out into the hallway and runs smack dab into Charlie who is only in a silk robe. Surge's towel accidentally falls to the ground giving Charlie a fantastic look at his unmentionables and wow it is a sight to behold! He quickly covers himself. They get into a flirtatious banter with each other and before he knows what's happening, he being lead by a prominent body part into Charlie's room. The understanding is that it's supposed to be a one time deal. Here is where I'll leave you and you'll have to get the book to see what happens next, but let's just say that the attraction and chemistry between these two continues to grow. They continue to work together to solve the mystery of who could have killed his girlfriend. Could it be someone from their apartment complex or someone she was dealing with for her drugs or could her best friend, Oscar, be involved. There are lots of leads to work on before the case can be solved, but one thing is certain, they'll follow the clues no matter where they take them and they both are no quitters. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and can definitely recommend this book as one worthy of a place in anyone's collection. It is an original, gripping storyline with realistic characters that make you feel for them. I can highly recommend the whole Dark Slayers MC series, from beginning to end each book will grip you and teleport you into a world froth with danger and surround you with brash, handsome, protective males who will stop at nothing to protect and provide for the ones they love. Totally swoon worthy reads!.

Aria Ray continues to wow me with this series! I am loving every single one of these so-called bad boy bikers! When in reality, they are nothing more than men who served their country and are trying to keep their little town safe. This is this story of Surge and Charlie (Charlene). Surge is doing time for murdering his girlfriend, Denise. As they all say, he didn’t do it. Because his club brothers believe him and know him better than anyone else, Zoe (Storms wife) hires Charlie as an investigative reporter to help figure out who really killed Denise.

Surge’s father passes away and this is the perfect opportunity for him to get a few hours out of the prison to attend his father’s funeral. This is also a great time to go hide out with Charlie to start putting the pieces together. Charlie isn’t 100% convinced that Surge isn’t guilty, but uses this time to figure him out. As the days go by and things start to come together, (relationship wise and case wise) will this be enough for them to prove his innocence? Or will Surge end up back in prison?

Full of suspense, passion, chemistry, a few twists, a little romance, and lots of intensity will have you staying up to finish to see what happens! I’m anxious to see what Mack’s story will look like!

Surge was convicted of a crime he didn't commit, but allowed a temporary parole to attend his father's funeral. The Dark Slayers MC has hired an investigative journalist, Charlene, to help either confirm what the authorities say or find the evidence to free him. Charlene is a friend of Zoe, Storm the MC president old lady and she believes Charlene can find out what happened. Surge and Charlene head out to a remote mountain cabin to hide from the police, re-look at all the evidence, and find anything else to free him. There is chemistry and they act on it and become closer to finding the truth. The book is well paced, sizzles, has action, drama, steam, and more. Another great addition to the DSMC series and as part of the Kindle Unlimited you can binge read the entire series. Well worth your time, it's a great series.

This book was so well written and thought out. The storyline was amazing and the characters were well developed. Surge had been wrongfully convicted of a horrible crime. The club was trying to find a way to set him free. When his father dies Surge is allowed to go the the funeral only if he wears a monitor. This sets into motion the plan to get him exonerated. Little does Surge know his new partner is a feisty little number named Charlie! Charlie is employed by Zoe who is the Prez’s Ol’ Lady. She is an investigator who is going to help him clear his name. Neither one realizes they are going to be the each other’s downfall. Will Charlie be able to crack the case before he is caught by the cops or will Surge end up back in prison for the rest of his life for a crime he claims he did not commit?.

less detailed and faster paced

This isn’t a shorter book than the others in the series but somehow, perhaps because there really is a lot to cover here, incarceration, death, release, hiding and endeavouring to find the real killer, it feels rushed in places and there is a real instalove rush to finish about it all in a few places.

Still a good read and a fun addition to the series, the book brings out a new old character in Surge who hadn’t been mentioned much till the end of the last book, which struck me as odd that they would accept him being in prison for something they knew he didn’t do.

Interesting characters, Mack will be fun to read I am sure….

Surge has been imprisoned for a murder he did not commit. When his father passes, he is released for the funeral and the Dark Slayers help him go on the run and try to clear his name. Charlene is a feisty, witty, strong willed woman who is hired by Zoe to work on the Vlog with her. Her first assignment is to work with Surge to find the real killer. The two of them are both strong personalities that clash at first and then figure out that they work well together. This is a fast paced plot with a ton of steam and a twist you don't see coming! I'm looking forward to Mack's book next, here hoping that he finds his match!.

Surge has been in prison for four years for the wrongful conviction of murdering his ex-girlfriend. When his father dies, the club's attorney works out a deal for him to go to his father's funeral.

Charlene is fresh out of college and when her dream job is dropped in her lap how can she say no. He first assignment is to prove a convicted Surge's innocence. The research location is a remote cabin with just the two of them. The more time she spends with this bad boy, the hotter he makes her.

This is a steamy read, proving two heads are better than one when trying to get to the bottom of what happened.

I received an ARC from the author and am voluntarily leaving my review. Get ready for a ride with this book. Surge was convicted of a murder that he didn't commit. Charlene is one of resources the MC is using to try to prove his innocence. These two have an attraction right from the beginning. Being hidden out together is going to complicate things fast. Charlene and Surge are set on a course uncovering betrayal and the truth. There are several roadblocks in their way. I liked the chemistry between them and how suited they were for each other. The MC plays a large part in making sure they have a future together. Good addition to the series.

This is a fantastic series and this book is about Surge and Charlene. Surge has been accused of killing his girlfriend, a crime he states he didn't do. He's facing 20 years in prison and a death threat from another convict. Charlene is an investigative journalist that goes on the run with the Dark Slayer MC and Surge. Charlene is working hard to find out what really happened and to prove Surge's innocence. While working together they develop a relationship but will it go anywhere if Surge is proved guilty? What a great storyline and the character were fantastic. There is drama, some twists and turns, and hot steam. Do they find the person who is framing Surge for murder? Read and find out.

i had stopped reading the Dark Slayers books because I had found that lately the heroines in the books were bitchy, but I decided to read this one and was glad that I did because I liked Charlene and Surge! It reminded me why I had enjoyed the books in the first place and decided to go back and read where I had stopped and luckily the rest of the woman got better (thankfully).

We meet Charlene who was hired by Zoe to help in figuring out who framed Surge, who really killed his ex-girlfriend and made lose 4 years of his life. It was a fun ride my friends.

He goes on the run with the help of the MC and Charlene goes so that she can get her story but as she unravels the layers of the case more seem to overshadow them. Will she be able to prove his innocence, and will the time spent together have them developing a relationship that ends with a happily ever after? This story has a lot of twists and turns that keeps you glued to the page to see the conclusion!

The story is about Surge who has been in jail for four years for a crime he claims to be innocent of and Charlene who was hired by the MC to help prove his innocence. This is a terrific whodunnit story with a side of MC romance. Surge is wrongly convicted for killing his girlfriend and is looking at 20 years in prison. When his life is threatened by another convict, he goes on the run with a budding investigative journalist and the help of his MC brothers. This is a sweet romance, not heavy on the drama, and Surge and Charlene balance each other's personality. Great addition to the Dark Slayers series.

Aria Ray writes some edgy stuff sometimes, but her heroes are always able to crawl under your defenses and into your heart. She's done it again here with Surge. Faster paced and a shorter read than the earlier books in the series, this one starts with hard truths and ends with just as brutal realities. But it's also heart-wrenching and you really, really go to bat for Surge and Charlie here. Nice work!.

Loved this one, Aria Ray is a great story teller and she outdid herself with this one. I have not read one quite like it, its angle is unique (to me at least). There was intrigue, sleuthing, passion, some sad parts and the characters played their parts well.

I will definitely read more by this author. I cant recommend her or this story enough!!.

Wrongs righted!

Four years is a long time to serve in prison for a crime you did not commit and no one is listening to you. The death of a parent is hard on anyone much worse for a prisoner. The club found a way for Surge to go to his fathers funeral and then set him free to investigate who rally killed his ex. The one thing he did not count on was falling in love and having all his dreams come true.

This is book 10 in this series and can be read on its own. Surge was a little rough around the edges but as you get to know his character it makes sense as to why he has trust issues. Charlene is great and I liked how she was so confident in herself and what she wanted. Good story.
